So I've just taking delivery of my new Nexus 10 and I've noticed that the haptic feedback makes quite an audible sound when the motor spins.
It sounds like loose vibration almost. It definitely doesn't sound nice.
After saying that I have never owned a Samsung device before so is it normal?
Thanks.....Chris.

It does make an audible tone, but it's hard to say if yours is normal without hearing it. It doesn't really sound bad to me. I just turn it off to save whatever battery I can.

I was thinking on the way in, as I got annoyed by my music getting interrupted to tell me I had a new gmail message, that it might be somehow possible to play alert tones without muting default volume. The official AIM app manages to do this somehow, and I've been told back in the day it didn't interrupt anything when an alert played, so I'd like to try to bring this back somehow.
My thoughts are that it should be doable either in the notifications code or the audio code itself. I'm planning to jump into the CM5 source head first tonight, but it would be nice to know where to go about starting looking - is anyone familiar enough with how this works to tell me if it's plausible, and which section of the code it should be in?

this would be great! I mean, whats the point in a blinking red trackball, if it still interrupts music with the sound
Back in the RC29&30 days this was the normal behavior for Android. It was changed to the current action of pausing the ongoing music with RC33 (pretty sure). As much as I would love my music to not be interrupted, I prefer the current method to the old "mixing" method. Where it would just play both sounds at the same time (pretty annoying actually). What would be ideal to me is the way my SEM600i did it, when I was listening to music (or watching a video) it would just beep and vibe when an alert came in & the music continued to play. This way I knew something was happening (be it a call or message) and could check my phone if I wanted, or keep on listening uninterrupted.

I agree with this. Would love a simple beep rather than the whole notification tone.
id prefer a dim of the music volume then the tone, when it stops altogether its quite annoying especially in my car with the speakers up. if it just dimmed the sound down to give the notification preference it wouldnt be so disturbing and it wouldnt go loud silent super loud silent loud every time i get a text

This would actually be ideal, I'm going to look into it and see if it's possible to do this.

I think is is ideal as well but I am not sure if Apple has a patent on that. No other phone that I know of uses that except the iPhone.

I had an SE phone that did that sometime ago... And i am pretty sure that Nokia N95 8GB also does it...
I have two brand new Nexus 4s, both of them has this annoying random crackle from the speaker in the midst of other sounds.
For example when typing, I'll hear the regular sounds, then a couple crackles. Same for getting a notifications, sometimes a little crackle before the sound. It isn't distorting, but resembles than sound a little.
Anyone else getting this as well?

i woke up this morning and when checking my fone i noticed a crackling whilst pressing soft buttons,
rebooted and seems to be gone,
I noticed this last night because I was in a quiet room and I'm probably being overly paranoid about it. An example, if you open up sounds and then notifications for instance, click on a sound. I can hear a very slight click of the speaker coming on, it plays the notification sound and then for about 2-3 seconds after that, I can hear a slight noise of the speaker still being powered and then it shuts off.
My only real concern is the slight click noise of the speaker coming on since I checked a few other phones I have and this doesn't happen. Like I said, probably paranoid but was curious if this is normal.

Normal. Every speaker does this. Don't worry.
I just got my moto x Pure a few days ago and i noticed when i receive a text message i get this pop noise after the notification sound stops playing. I went in the settings to change the notification sound and as im switching between them they all have a pop noise always after there done playing or sometimes before playing. If i try to change the ring tone it doesn't happen, they start and end fine with no pop noise. I remember having a similuar issue with my nexus 4 and to remedy the situation i would disable touch sounds and vibration but it doesnt seem to help with this phone.
Someone on reddit said he had the same issue. Anyone else experience this ?
Yep. Happens on my too. It's the speaker going online and standby. Happens on all phones, but in Moto X Pure is loud and noticeable. Cheap speaker? Don't know. Also on my, when playing the tone "Zeta" I get bad speaker crackling noise. Specially when volume is high.

i adjusted the bass in the audio equalizer and it seems to help with ring tones like the zeta, at least i think it did.
I dont get the pop noise when i play a youtube video or listen to google music, so its weird to me.

Thank you for posting this. Now I know I'm not the only one with the problem. I was worrying I'd have to do an RMA, but maybe this'll be fixable with a software update.
Didn't even notice the crackling until I specifically listened for it. Now I can't unhear it. Ughh! This is going to drive me nuts. Similar issue with my N6. Playing music or videos there is no problem. Just notifications and ringtones.

I don't want to highjack the thread, so we should probably move here to discuss crackling: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/bad-speaker-crackling-t3200536
The speaker crackling and pop noise after notifications may be seperate issues

Pretty sure they are. I have both though. I notice the pop very easily at night. I have a few apps set to priority, so they'll ring even when I'm sleeping. Last night I got a couple notifications and definitely heard an audible pop about a second after the tone stopped playing. It seems like it happens when power is being cut to the speaker.
My Nexus 6 had similar QC issues. The phone stopped detecting SIM cards about a month after I bought it. Moto sent me a replacement which I sold because it was NIB. Beginning to worry that Lenovo is cheaping out a bit too much on their flagships.
I don't have my phone in hand yet so...has anyone tried some third party ringtones or notifications? The reason I ask is because I imagine it's possible that the default recorded sounds may have some type of silent space after the "music" or the sound stops causing this. Maybe somebody can try a few home made ones to see if it still happens.
Yes i tried third party notification sounds. Same thing happens
Anyone else affected by this bug
Getting the pop noise as well. It's very noticeable. I'll hold off for awhile and see what Moto does about the issue.
I've got it as described above. Sounds like power coming on and then cutting off. Reminds me of powering on and off an old boombox from the 80's.

I have no POP noise at all. As I said before I think it has to do with the earliest batches that were delivered. Even though I ordered on the second day of pre-order I received mine several days after many others. Maybe I got mine from a second, or later batch?? No speaker distortion either even at full volume!
Decided to return it and get another one. Maybe I just got one of the bad batches. I also had a small scratch on it right out of the box. Would've ignored the scratch if everything else was good... but I can't unhear the speaker crackles and pop.
waiting now for return authorization for this problem, which is a little hairy because I'm not the original owner. I do have the receipt though--shouldn't the warranty transfer?
That pop noise very noticable when using viber...
Also try to press keyboard keys and put the speaker closer to the ear... Its like speakers are turn on/off ...
yeah, it's the amplifier shutting off. happens on crappy laptop soundcards too usually. pretty much all of them have it.

Hello
Recently i have been noticing that if i raise my ringtne level the sound comes out a bit static. Its happening with the alarm and the ringtone.
The videos are working fine but this is soo frustrating. It
hasnt been a month since i got this cell.
My screen resolution is FHD+
Yes! On default message sound, on every notification sound to be honest... It sounds like it's distorted, don't know how to explain, but we are talking about the same thing... But that seems to be "normal", i tried my friend's phone and it's the same. Don't know if the ringtones are low quality or the speaker can't hit high notes.
Yes ! This is exactly what has been happening !
Yea.. almost as if it was clipping.. so I never have it at max volume
