Hey guys,
I have looked around here and mainly found peoples topics for the Galaxy S i9000T who are from a different country, need different firmware and have differently branded phones, hence this topic:
I have purchased a Telstra branded (AUSTRALIAN) Samsung Galaxy S.
BASEBAND VERS: I9000TDVJH3
KERNEL VERS: 2.6.29
BUILD #: ECLAIR.DVJH3
----------
From simple browsing I have determine 'TEL' or 'DV' just means TELSTRA (and T can also mean this). If looking at 'J' by itself it can be interpreted as OCTOBER 2010 (when i got the phone), but not sure what H3 is....or if it is read as JH3..
My plan is to jump onto a nice compatable version of Froyo 2.2, however I have NO IDEA which is the best and closest firmware to download and in case of any stuff-ups or compatability issues, if i need to claim my phone under warranty, I want to be able to flash back to stock firmware, which is this Telstra JH3 crap, and have no idea where I can find that.
My biggest gripe is nopt being able to have the FREEDOM to remove/uninstall/move certain LOCKED apps despite trying with various android apps and while i'm rooting/flashing, I thought I might as well get 2.2 since the "proposed" release date in Australia for it, and probably likely release by Telstra will be in December, or so I am told...screw that.
Can someone help me and direct me to the most appropriate version of firmware to download and, if available, the original stock firmware (if it has been replicated by anyone with the same phone as me?)
Thanks
RoOSTA
I've PM'd some Aussies to get attention to the post as i have nowhere else to turn to!
currently there are no safe Froyo 2.2 yet
even the original release in Europe got recalled, wait until mid November, then we might finally see some progress
for now just iron out whatever is bugging you with the current fixes, and live happy until Froyo comes out
is that I9000T a 900 band model or 850 band model ?

The Telstra I9000T is a 2100/850 Mhz model.
Yeah, OK...I'll wait til mid November, only a couple of weeks away...
Until then, what can I do to get the best/accurate/most reliable 2.1 (UNBRANDED) that will still work 100% on the 2100/850MHz bands? I want to be able to delete ALL the crap that is apparently "system locked" apps from the phone...
RoOSTA
i have i9000t latin america versión
and i have made this flash "[HOWTO] Froyo FW I9000XXJPM: Upgrade via Odin, Root, Recovery 2e, Lagfix!"
with a unlocked csc from canada
first of all I made a backup with the rom manager, because i cannot find anywhere the galaxy s firmware of my t model
maybe you can do the same
so whats the optus ones? just i9000? funnily enough im on jg3 with optus.. where as the op is on jh3.. my phone was also delivered in mid oct 2010.
So maybe I'll just try rooting the phone to de-brand it (keeping on 2.1) then when a stable official froyo 2.2 comes out, hopefully MID NOV, just update to that?

Rooted the phone using auto method from the tutorial on these boards with ease, installed Titanium Backup which downloaded the latest or most compatable busybox (1.16 for me). I have managed to delete some "locked" apps, but a lot of Telstra's BIGPOND apps remain (downloads, movies, sport, etc) - they are much harder to find when browsing the list appLIST in TBackup - I jsut got the free version, but impressed with how much easier it has been to customise even still, as a branded phone.

@roosta...im a noob, plz can u tellme the step to step guide i soo wanna get rid of telstra apps and i wanna completely debrand the telstra galaxy s phone without installing any lag fixs like voodoo etc, i just want to instal the original eclairs or froyo from samsung for its galaxy s i9000, but im not sure how to go about because i have the 850mhz next g galaxy s from telstra. Can you help me , thanks in advance
Hi mate, as the reply I made above states, i used the galaxy S "root" tutorial,. i havent debranded hthe phone, but i have been granted rights or access to delete specific apps I dont want, so follow that. I won't FULLY debrand the phone only because I havent got the telstra stock firmware to download and REINSTATE at a later date (if i needed to for warranty purposes)
RoOSTA
@roosta, i wud really appreciate if u cud post the link, i cannot find the thread u mentioned in your reply. and secondly any idea when telstra wud be releasing 2.2 for sgs. cheers

Hi mate,
Is there any chance you can upload your stock rom, I stupidly flashed my i9000t without fully understanding the 850mhz network and now I am stuck with a custom rom and no way to access the nextG network.
If there is a way and I just missed something, please let me know.
Kindest regards,
All you need to do is root the phone which you did, and then get hold of Titanium Backup. Use that to uninstall the junk that Telstra pre-installed. But before you do anything use Titanium to make a full Backup just in case. From what I gather your phone is exactly the same as the American AT&T captivate so whatever roms/fixes they use you can use on your phone. If you notice a lot if not all phones from AT&T usa work fine on telstra as they both use 850mhz (NexG rebranding) while the rest of the world like Optus/voda/whoever uses 900mhz. 850mhz is actualy better as it penetrates walls and buildings better but problem is that only 3 Telcos that i know use it is AT&T, Vodafone NZ and Telstra so they can be expensive for data. But on a better note you can use your phone on any network as it also has 2100mhz(very congested) 3G too.
Always willing to help out a fellow aussie here you go mate

So 2.2 out for Optus, but STILL nothing yet for Tesltra for the JH3 firmware and 2100/850 bandwiths!?!
That's ridiculous...

Hey Roost,
Just wanted to check in and see whether you had any luck mate? As far as the GTalk thing goes I had absolutely no idea about that, but sounds like your only choice here is to flash back to stock Telstra 2.1 and then redo your modifications and reflash to your custom ROM.
I agree with you completely in that the delay for Telstra updates is ridiculous, but this has always been the case. Even right back to WinMo 6.5 on the TP2 and TD2, they've always been three or four months behind the trend. To best of my knowledge there's still no news on Froyo yet, which is just ****ful.
I'll keep checking your post to see if you turn anything up. Hopefully you do and it's manageable. Good luck mate.

Hey all,
Just updating: As per another thread on this board - Telecom NZ have released Froyo 2.2 available via kies. Using registry, i spoofed Kies into thinking my phone was i9000T from NZ, so have since updated to 2.2 wiuth no issues;
For me, no lag fix needed, swype works perfectly, all gps/maps work fine with accuracy and 850 band fully functional. I'd also recommend doing this ahead of Tesltra AU since i've gone from about 15+ useless LOCKED system banded apps to TWO on Telecom NZ; one being internet and the other for 'account status', so very happy with the recent update...

I think TNZ have pulled their 2.2, at least that's the last update I read a few days ago.
I've got an I9000T as well, and am on Telstra. I've flashed Docs V4 JPU ROM and it's working great on the 850 band.
So it looks like the JPU CSC does support the NextG frequencies
Do you think you might be able to list some of the useless telstra branded apps you removed? im having trouble knowing whats what the way its itemised and named in Titanium Backup.
auldar could you link to the ROM you are using at please.
Hi guys just recieved my s4 today in the uk.
Its locked 2 three i dont like it branded.
can anyone tell me which firmware i should flash to
sim free version uk
And the newest 1 plz
Tbh don't bother unbranding it, if you want updates quick then your better off staying with the 3 firmware you have already got installed.
Updates on Simfree are painfully slow, compared to the networks we are still waiting for the update that 3 got a month ago.
If you still want to go ahead and unbrand your S4 then there are guides on here to help you do it, first of all though before you can install a unbranded firmware, I think you gonna need to have to unlock it first before you can do anything else.
yea thats fine i know how to do all of that
i just would like to know which firmware i need for the UK simfree i9505 version just so i know im flashing the right 1
can anyone guide me to the right 1.
theres so many im confused

hi all.
i bought my note 3 from three uk in about oct. i flashed the stock samsung firmware which rid it of the three branding and should have opened it up to getting faster updates. it shows in kies as PDA:MJ7 PHONE:MJ7 CSC:MJ4 (H3G)
unless i'm mistaken, it is still showing some of the effects of being bought from Three, the (h3g) bit. will this stop me getting an update? it still says no software update available both on phone and via kies.
also, any idea when and how i should receive the 4g update as 4g is now in my area, birmingham?
thanks

I think you should wait for a bit. Although I can't get a full comprehensive reply from 3 in the UK I'm now being told a carrier update enables 4G and although it's available in some areas it's still rolling out. I'm in exactly the same position as you and updated my phone to the Polish rom in the thought that the LTE option would be available in the settings (it still isn't) and there's still an amount of confusion surrounding the whole process. I'm going to give up and wait till something concrete emerges. If you get anywhere with it I'd appreciate a pm or update and I'll return the favour if I do :good:

No So far Poland firmware is problem free & stable so not advisable to unnecessarily flash another.
No problem.
Any idea on the 4.4.2 update?
Go to Settings-About phone-Software Update & check for OTA update, otherwise connect to Kies & try for H3G Kitkat is available now.
tried both those methods and neither allows update. both say latest firmware installed

i gave up waiting. i backed my data and factory reset to see if it helped. low and behold, the update that enabled 4g downloaded straight after the first boot and then 4.4.2 downloaded also.
good luck
I would have posted this under the S5 'T-Mobile' section, but I think it might be more of a generic discussion.
I am considering in purchasing the S5 Plus (G901F). From what I can see right now, this is only available in Germany, UK and just about now, Netherlands. Problem is that it's exclusive to respective providers and therefore - "branded"
I can find it cheaper from Germany - which is subject to T-Mobile / Telekom (same thing?) branding.
I have asked the shop and they confirmed that the phone is factory unlocked to any provider/country and that there is no "hardware branding" on the phone. Meaning no stickers, no logos or anything else physically on the phone.
However, there is "software branding". Meaning the firmware itself and whatever bloatware the provider has put inside that ROM.
Now, I have read that I can use ODIN and find the least crapware-loaded ROM (from any country) and flash it *without* compromissing the knox bit. So far so good.
What I would like to know is that: What happens when finally Samsung releases a pure, non-branded ROM for the G901F? I can still use ODIN to flash - no problem. But what about future releases. I mean future non-branded firmwares. Would I be able to use OTA from that point on, or would I have to keep an eye and update via ODIN? Can someone please elaborate and explain this?
I get it - that's a 'newbie' type of question, but I would be really grateful towards some help here. All I can do for someone who will spend 2mins for writing a useful/accurate answer is say 'thanks'
Didn't find an exact answer to what I ask here, hence me writing this. Hope it's not a double-post!

Hi jstoner,
I think that while using an unbranded ROM would probably prevent you from receiving OTA's from your provider you would still be left wih the Samsung tool for getting new updates - Kies.
It has the options to check for updates and to flash them.
The geeky option is indeed to keep your eyes out for updates and fire up Odin
Disclaimer: I never used Kies to update my phone so I might be wrong here

I forgot to mention - I live in Greece (but I m thinking of buying the phone from Germany, as it's not available here yet)
Does KIES list all ROMs from ALL regions/providers for a particular phone?

Nobody knows man. But you can always flash the newest updates via odin without triggering knox. After a few month only German Vodafone is building an update. T- mobil stii stuck on h5 firmware. So if there will be an unbranded oce ever ever ever.........you have odin
Wonder if that Greek ROM is unbranded or not
As for hardware branding, it seems that all G901F units sold in Germany under Telekom/T-Mobile have that "LTE+" at the back (also on the retail box). Instead, those EE (UK) units seem to have no hardware branding at all - it just has the "Samsung" logo at the back cover (and nothing on the retail box)

There are a few Providerapps inside. All Roms i tested for 901F has the normal Samsung Bootloaderscreener. No Provider startup. So nothing to worry about . Mine has also the LTE+ logo, but former T-Mobile Devices have also Coverbrands on it...Thanks God these not

I think they will certify a new firmware and fix the current issues and rool it out to every region, just be patient current realese is bad; no clear audio, charging issue, memory issue...
Still looking forward to it.
is past updates are anything to go by it'll be months before we get it
I thought of that too. I think that they will release another firmware with bugs fixed...
I tweeted Xperia UK and had no reply yet, also tweeted 3 UK as my phone was from them and they did come back but said they have no timescale yet
I don't understand the logic one of the largest and most lucrative markets has to wait the longest.

I'm new to the Z1 but I wouldn't recommend that ROM because the Hong Kong release is for the GLOBAL-LTE network. You want something like the generic France release which uses EURO-LTE.
Here's what I did.
1. Use XperiFirm and download 1276-5833 (Generic France that uses the same EURO-LTE network as the UK)
2. Use Flashtool to create an FTF from the download
3. Use PRFCreator to pre-root the ROM. Include SuperSU, XZDualRecovery (flashable) and select all of the checkboxes
4. Copy the flashable ZIP to your phone
5. Boot to TWRP and wipe cache, data, dalvik, system and then select to install the ZIP that you copied to the phone
You can debloat the ROM by using a file manager that supports root e.g. ES File Explorer.
Here's a question for everyone though. Is the option to use GSM (2G) only removed from Lollipop? I don't see the option anymore and I'm not sure if it's due to a region specific /vendor/overlay/ change.

Thanks.
So it's going to be a country specifc change in /vendor/overlay/ then. What people don't realise is that the ROM's they're installing for other countries are all slightly different. Some of them will display LTE instead of 4G, some will restrict options and some won't use things like fast dormancy. The included apps and basebands are also different.

Wow that was pretty accurate.
The generic, O2 and Vodafone versions have been released. Mines a Vodafone version and it offers me the update via the phone itself, but I'm going to flash the generic one since I don't actually use Vodafone and don't want any of their bundled apps.
Apart from an app called Discover and one called Updates; those are the only two "forced apps" on the Z1 via Vodafone. Which of course can be disabled...
Sky Sports Mobile TV no longer works, I've posted a comment on their forum to make them aware of this issue
