The basebands for 3g are different in india. The i9020t comes with the 9020 baseband i think if you flash the 9023 baseband with the KD1 radio, Your 3g will work. I got my i9020t nexus from the US and am using it in india. I had a motherboard problem and got my motherboard replaced from samsung here. So they changed my baseband , Hence my 3g is working now.
I used my 9020 with vodaphone and got 3g in new Delhi. I was on vacation

I use the i9020T and I have no problems whatsoever with my 3G signal. Get speeds close to 4Mbps. I´m on BSNL Andhra Pradesh.
Which service provider? Maybe your service provider does not provide 3G in your area?
Or try this -- Go to Dialer and type *#*#4636#*#*
After that tap on Phone Information. In Set Preferred Network select WCDMA only. That´ll give you only 3G signal if available. If you want to go back to 2G select GSM only. If you want both select WCDMA Preferred but this is a huge battery drain.
Hi please give me little more insight to what you have done. Where are you from india. I am in bangalore can you pkease provide me some contact numbers of customer care. Can I directly flash 9023 rom into my mobile? Or will there be any hardware incompatibilities? Please help me I am dying to activate 3g

Do NOT flash the 9023 ROM. That could make many things go wrong. If you're APN settings are configured then do what I said above and you'll have 3G.
Hi anirudh thank you very much for your reply I have already done that but it is of no help. Please educate me littme moe in this regard

Maybe you send some sort of msg to get 3g activated. For airtel you've to send "activate 3g" to 121. Maybe Vodafone has something of the sort too.
Hi anirudh in my mobile I have already done that so mobile connection is 3g active. Can yiu please give me your number

Frequent disconnection on Vodafone
Anyone facing frequent 3G disconnection on Vodafone network? I have 9020T and have KD1, what radio are you using?
That's the T-Mobile version. The Nexus S is not a quintaband phone. Tmobile 's 3G is 1700mhz band. So I do not believe you will be getting 3G with that phone in India.

I was getting 3G connection with Airtel/Tata Docomo all this while. Now i moved to Vodafone and suddenly it stopped. Moreover, i am getting 3G connections and can access data as well, but it automatically disconnects after a while like 20-30 mins.
This is working now after changing the sim from the same operator. In case someone is facing the same problem, talk to ur operator and get ur sim replaced.

Hi,
Before messing with my Nexus 4 (running rooted stock 4.2.2 with Franco Kernel M1), is there a way or a specific app to check for LTE signal in my area?
Thanks!

There is no app I know of that can test for a signal your phone isn't set to receive, you'd have to set it up for LTE first. And if you don't live in one of the 7 major cities T-Mobile just turned LTE on in or in Canada then you don't have LTE you can use anyways.
With Verizon you can check for their list of LTE coverage and find out if its in the area and go from there. Its almost everywhere now but back in the Thunderbolt days lots of people did that.
A quick Google search would get you started.

Verizon's current LTE network isn't compatible with this phone. They eventually will build out their existing LTE network using AWS but that is a long way off and it still most likely won't work with the Nexus.

I guess I will have to do some testing. I live nearby the T-Mobile HQ , still not officially covered by LTE but I saw an article by OpenSignal stating that there was some LTE activity nearby...

Open Signal is a crowd sourcing app and relies upon user input to give data about available towers and unfortunately no one in my city has used the app so there isn't any tower data available. So not really sure if it can give useful info as to if a tower has LTE, HSPA+ or whatever else may be around. If you live near T-Mo's Headquarters it may be worthwhile doing the LTE fix just to check as it can always be reversed.
Flash the. 33 radio set up apn and go into phone information choose network type lte and run speed test

FYI just because you are in one of the launch markets doesn't mean every tower has live LTE yet so if by have everything set up and you're not getting LTE doesn't mean you did it wrong.

My provider only uses HSPA +/LTE, the phone always downgrades to hspa (non +) and sometimes 3g which my provider doesn't support so I loose my data connection and it sometimes takes a really long time for it to go back to the proper hspa+ that I need it to use all the time. Anybody knows if I can somehow force the phone to use hspa+ 100% of the time?
Thanks

Switch to HSPA+ only mode. Probably wont work with phone calls unless you VOIP.
How??

You must be mixing up HSPA+ with LTE. I don't think there's a way to choose between HSPA/HSPA+/UMTS, they're all considered 3G or WCDMA (unless you're in Canada.. carriers lie here, those networks shown as 4G are actually 3G)

Well when my phone shows 3g or hspa I cant get anything to load online, it will stay on this mode for a while sometimes and then as soon as the phone shows hspa+ everything loads perfect. Every othere phone I have bought from Bell mobility in canada show hspa+ all the time.

I also had an unlocked Note 2 with exynos processor that did the same thing.

I just tried making a call with my Note 3 (S800) and it was able to make a call on HSPA+ on TELUS. I think either your location doesn't have good HSPA+ signal / it's overloaded or there's a problem with the phone, does it support all the 3G frequencies Bell uses?

I know, you said "switch to HSPA+ only but you may not be able to make calls." You can switch to LTE only and you will not be able to make calls. You can make calls on HSPA+.

call #9090#.
Will bring up configuration menu.
Should be tons of radio mode options. One should be HSPA+ only.
Must be the wrong code, *9090* doesn't do anything and *#9090# brings me to a service menu which has no radio settings

Bell mobility uses "UMTS/HSPA compatible on 850 and 1900 MHz bands" which is supported by the note 3, I just dont get why both my unlocked exynos note 2 (got rid of it 1 month after I bought it because of this problem) and also the exynos note 3 have this problem on bell mobility in canada.....

You can always edit data retry to a smaller number in your build.prop.
"ro.telephony.default_network" is the build.prop entry for which default network you're on. You could figure out which one of those corresponds to HSPA+ (probably through trial and error).
**edit
Oh, you may just have to flash a new modem then O.0
My N9005 is missing quite a few radios at the moment as well.
Wish I could do all of that lol

Maybe there is sime kind of problem with your sim and/or phone...
I'm with Virgin (owned by Bell and same network). My device is switching between 3G and HSPA+... And it's working perfectly fine.
Sent from my SM-N900 with Tapatalk
see if this works:
Settings > More Networks (under connections) > Mobile Networks > Network Mode = choose the option which you like and see if it works.
heads up, even with settings forced from here my network sometimes fluctuates.
Like the topic says, I installed the following:
[AOSPA 4.4.2 KVT49L] PARANOIDANDROID 4.0+ G2 [beta6]
And latest Gapps.
Phone works fine, but with my T Mo sim installed the best I can get is HSPA+. I am in an LTE area btw, my T Mob HTC One gets the signal just fine.
One other abnormality, the baseband version in the settings shows: "unknown" but the phone does still work
Lte bands arent the same for vz and tmo

Thats not what I've read on multiple occasions. The device does have 3 (i think) LTE bands (2 of which T mobile uses). Now I might just not be in an area where those bands the device already has are used, this I don't know.
Best I have been able to get is H+
As far as i know, tmobile only uses one band for LTE which is one of the 2 bands that att use... but verizon is on a totally different one...

Right, however regardless of if I'm in an LTE area at my house or not, the phone should still show info for things like: Phone number (currently unknown).
This is the video that explains the process of turning a Vz G2 into a T_Mo LTE capable phone:

Ok. I know here claro pr can show unknown and it still works. Iveeven seen phones with unknown or blank imei and it still works with them...

My S5 permanently shows 4G except when on Wifi. I got it from GSM Nation and they sent me the G900W8 (Canadian) model instead of the G900F (International) but it works fine in my country. There is no actual 4G in my country, yet my phone shows that. Does anyone have a solution or have the same problem?

It's most likely that the canadian version (and the US versions) consider HSPA+ as 4G.
The problem is that it shows 4G even when the signal is actually Edge or 3G.

That's weird it should be 4G=H+, H=H, 3G and E that's what I get. Maybe you need to flash a Modem from your country. Look into it. Don't go flashing a modem just yet investigate some more.

My friend's S5 is working properly and I just don't get why mine is acting weird. The data works properly and the bands my country uses are within the bands of the phone. I'll wait a bit more. Maybe someone will have an answer.
