Hello, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum section. I'm new to these forums and to rooting/installing ROMs. I recently rooted my Droid 2 using "Framaroot, a one-click .apk to root" method. Everything went well, and was very quick. I then installed Titanium Backup to uninstall some Verizon bloatware.
I want to install Cyanogenmod 7.2. I installed Droid 2 Bootstrapper, and Cyanogenmod 7.2 and placed them on my SD card. I then went to install ClockworkMod ROM Manager on Google Play and it installed.
I was going to backup my current data/apps using Titanium Backup, then backup my current ROM using ClockworkMod. After that I'm a little confised as to which program I'm suppose to install Cyanogenmod 7.2 with.
Do I use from my app screen;
- Droid 2 Bootstrapper and choose "Reboot Recovery"
- ClockworkMod to first backup my current ROM, and then choose its "Reboot into Recovery" option
- Or just reboot my Droid 2 using the "X" key and power button and load the ROM from there? When I do so, Motorola's recovery mode comes up and not ClockworkMod's. Is that normal?
I've also already changed the check_kernel script to "exit 0".
I'm sorry for the long post, this will be my first time and don't want to make my phone useless. Thank you for your help.

Big thank you for that! I tried several ways to remove the kernel check and my repackaged .zip would never flash. Found your files with the check removed, and they worked just fine!

you need to use rom manager to flash cwm then use droid 2 bootstrap install the recovery script and then use it to boot into recovery. attempting to use rom manager to boot into recovery will give you the recovery error or itll just normal boot your phone. the reason for bootstrap is bec of the locked bootloader.

true I'll change link, but the Modified Droid X Bootstrapper
works on the Dx, D2, and D2G
But I just noticed if you just use droid 2 bootstrap it flashes the recovery just fine. Before with 2.3.3 it wouldn't without going through ROM manager first.

with CM roms GApps are installed separately.
For CM9 Download gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
Place on SD card
Long Press power>reboot>recovery
follow Install a rom in ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM)
since rom is already installed, should not need to Wipe Data or reinstall rom.
just install GApps, wipe cache a reboot
thanks i will try

Anyone have any idea why my Clockwork Bootstrap is not working?
I'm on the leaked rooted GB, trying to bootstrap recovery to install CRT animation.
I know my root works because I've used root explorer just fine.
I load up Koush's Bootstrap Recovery, Bootstrap, get the Success message (first time I ran it I approved Superuser permissions), I then Reboot Recovery.
Upon reboot, I get the red Motorola logo followed by nothing but a blank screen. It requires a battery pull at this point, upon which it then just boots normal afterward.
I've rinsed and repeated several times and I've uninstalled and reinstalled Koush's Bootstrap as well....same issue.

Hey all, this is my first time rooting a moto phone, I'm used to HTC and working w/CWMod and most recently Team Win Recovery.
Anyway, I just want to make sure that I'm going to do it right when it comes to putting a recovery s/ware on the phone - if I understand correctly I need the Bootstrap App (2.99 in market) for the Droid 2 ?
Now, if I have that do I need CWMod as well, or is the bootstrap it's own recovery app? that's where I'm a bit confused. I installed CWMod, but haven't done anything w/it yet.
I like doing everything via recovery and NOT via an app on the phone, so what I'd like to is a nice recovery app, where I can reboot into recovery, run nandroid backups and flash ROMs (if he lets me lol).
Help appreciated.

Everything makes sense to me except #5. Maybe it will make more sense once I install the app?
I didn't use SuperOneClick, I used Psouza's Motorola Root Tools v 1.7 - worked awesome, I guess it is a 'superoneclick' type of s/ware, just not sure if it's THE s/ware you speak of - either way, same result
Will install the BootStrap later tonight after work and go from there. Are you running a custom ROM on your Pro? I've been so spoiled w/the HTC development, trying to find something for the Pro is like a needle in a haystack, lol
Thank you
is there a cwm for different devices or has the cwm to be modificated for every device? And exist somewhere a Forum or Website to watch the cwm progression with download options?

Just wanted to let folks know who may be interested in trying out the new CyanogenMod 7.2 rc1 Shadow for our Droid X that you may experience a problem like I did when you try and flash this build.
I had already taken the .621 OTA update (which made me lose root) and then flashed the Milestone X .604 sbf file (which leaves our baseband radio alone for data) using sbf_flash in linux, then using the zerg root tool to regain root on this phone, then used the Droid 2 Bootstrap to get to clockwork recovery.
When I flashed this build I get the dreaded bootloader error screen after the reboot. I've tried this CM7.2rc1 twice now and each time after I reboot it shows me the bootloader screen with an error code and doesn't go any further.
It didn't give me any problems when I flashed an unofficial CM9 beta though. It's running fine on this phone.

I don't remember the version if you're asking for the version of cwm recovery the droid 2 bootstrapper installed on my phone before I flashed the CM9 beta.
However, there are a lot of folks reporting the same issue over on RootzWiki about not unnecessarily this CM7.2r1 but with flashing any non-2nd-init roms after going from .621 to .604.

3: Root with Zergrush V4

First time flashing a rom so I know i've got something out of order in the process.
ATTEMPTED:
I attempted ROM manager and it kept saying that I needed to install Clockworkmod recovery and I never could really get it working.
ENDED UP DOING:
Phone is rooted and unlocked for non-market apps with Superoneclick.
Installed 2init to flash [JB] CM10 Jellybean 4.1.1 from the Quartz build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779324)
No problem here. Got it up and running and gapps installed.(from http://goo.im/gapps used gapps-jb-20121130-signed.zip)
When I tried installing the sbf file with RSD Lite (v5.7), I hit the red Moto logo bootloop and had to do the stock recovery.
I am wondering how to avoid this bootloop when I install the SBF file (p4_kobe_umts_kobe_user_3.4.2-125_KOB_FFW-4_product-keys-ATT-US_ATT-signed.sbf) can't remember which site I downloaded it from. I've tried this 4 times. Any suggestions?
Btw, what is included in the SBF file? I assume it has the moto and att apps. I'm just looking for the att phonebook and the motoblur for backup.
I've looked around the forum a lot so please forgive me if I am asking about something already posted. It just wasnt clear for me.
Thanks for the help.

The SBF has factory/stock MotoBlur with the at&t bloatware included. You can't use MotoBlur with cyanogenmod that I know of. You might be able to use the at&t address book though.
You need to reboot into recovery after installing 2init. You do that by pressing volume down when the blue led light comes on at the red logo.
Then you can install cm10 and gapps.
Try sbf in linux if all else fails, skeevy420 posted a great tut on how to do it, or just look up "flash sbf linux" in google and you'll find a guide from somewhere. Sounds like you just need to start from scratch, in which case you have to flash sbf first.

hello all, I am a noob when it comes to modding my smartphone however I am somewhat tech savvy. I have a problem getting cyanogenmod 7.2.0 to install on my rooted milestone x. I have been told that a milestone x is just another droid x port. I have already rooted my phone with super one click 2.3.3.0. I have backed up my phone with Titanium Backup Premium and installed ROM Manager Premium. I followed the instructions on various webpages but I get an error when trying to install the mod. The error is:
- Install from sdcard ...
Finding update package ...
Opening update package ...
Verifying update package ..
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Now here is my specs:
Model - milestone x
system version - 4.5.604.MB809.ACG-nTelos.en.US
Android Version - 2.3.5
Kernel version - 2.6.32.9-geadffa3
[email protected] #1
Build Number - 4.5.1_57_MX2-34
Now I will tell you I was trying to flash the rom in the stock recovery because I didn't realize until later that it wasn't in clockworkmod recovery. Herein lies the problem, I can't get into CWM recovery no matter what I've tried on the net searching for answers. I have downloaded droid 2 bootstrapper as well. I can't find a working link to droid x bootstrapper. Am I just stuck with my stock X or is there hope?

now i seem to be stuck at a red M logo after opening droid 2 bootstrapper, click on bootstrap recovery, click on ok at the success prompt, click on reboot recovery. only way to move past this is to pull the battery then it will reboot no problem into stock 2.3.5. if i hold power and hard home key it will go into stock recovery every time but still no CWM recovery. I have no idea why this is everyone else seems to have no problem getting into CWM.
