Just sent my Samsung Galaxy S3 back to T Mobile here in the UK
kept dropping signal on wi fi
totally rubbish sound on video recordings
didnt like the black background on main email section, you cant change it!
loved the screen size but colours look unnatural even when on lowest setting
no way in hell i was staying in a 24 month contract with a phone that isnt what i expected, very disappointing, the video audio was the main decider for me
i think i will wait until Samsung fix these problems, which knowing them will be about 12 months
Supercurio says he can fix the audio in video recording.
I have none of the other problems you list.
You probably should have held on til voodoo was released. Awkward....

I've never experienced any of the problems you've listed, wifi has always worked without fail and the display is amazing! Why are so many people having problems??

Most unlucky.
I just got mine last Friday and I'm still getting used to it. Its sooo awesome, I don't really understand why anyone would want to return it.
Oh well.

Why do we need to know this? If you don't like the phone, fair enough, but I honestly could not care less and I doubt anyone else here does.

I like the default black email client. Battery saving!
WiFi has been great
I dont record videos so couldn't comment there.
Screen looks very realistic. You can set the mode, natural, Dynamic, Movie etc as you can with a Samsung LCD TV. Very configurable for all tastes. Sharp too.
Could the Wifi dropping be your router? Ive been impressed with Wifi thus far.
Impressed with the video recording too. If I wanted better I'd buy a HD Video camera.
Sound at the moment is below par but as has already been mentioned, it can be improved by the mighty powers of supercurio.
Shame you bailed so soon, but good luck in finding a new phone.

I understand why people are not happy with the video recorder sound. There is no point in pretending its not a problem by comparing it to a 4k HDR camera. If they can do 1080p 30fps you'd think the sound would be at least on par with the visuals.
Fact is the SGS2 had much better sound and so too does the iPhone. Samsung have achieved better in the past and its disappointing to take a step back in the area.
Again with the whinges about the sound. Its a software problem. It will be fixed eventually.

What's the problem with the sound??? I did a video at a bbq at the weekend and the sound is excellent.
On second thought, don't tell me, as it will have me looking for little green men in my usb port next...
oh wait, there are some, they are reaaaaallly really small but they ARE THERE!! lol.
Running Franco's kernel with sound improvements I have no audio issues at all.
Rest of the phone has no issues imo.

So I bit early last week on a N4 16gb when they first went available again, and since then it seems like the people who are receiving the last batch of the initial stock are posting reviews and Impressions of the device and aren't totally smitten. Whether it be rattling, the glass back, overheating, buzzing in earpiece and non-optimization of 4.2 it was scaring me a little.
What i was wondering, was which phones people felt were the best option for T-mobile. The keys i was taking into account were:
•strong processor (min. Dual core)
•decent to big battery
•high res. Screen (and at least 4.3")
•good video/gaming playback
•decent volume (doesn't feel tiny on headphones on high)
•should be semi safe with updates for next 2 years.
I am in the middle of a mobile contract with a Htc Radar 4g, and its just not enough for me and leave me wanting. So am looking for a phone that could potentially survive at least another 2 years. I was thinking of options like the note II, gsIII, HTC one international (w/ non-gba card), gnex. The only thing i will rule out is the iPhone because i have a PC, no offense to iPhone users.
So tell me your opinions and views.....if this thread should be moved elsewhere i allow the moderators to move it otlr let me know and let me know how to move it.
Thanks in advance

I think you should think about whether you actually care about these things.
Rattling - basically non-existant, you can't even hear it unless you litterally shake your phone right next to your ear repeatedly.
Glass Back - This is user preference
overheating - pretty sure this only occurs during benchmarking?
buzzing in earpiece - I dunno about this
non-optimization of 4.2 - i'm sure all phones are getting 4.2 eventually so this part might not even apply specifically to the Nexus 4.
I've now lived with a 16gb N4 for about five days and I think it's the best phone on Tmo by a country mile.
Like you, I upgraded from an HTC Radar (actually liked that phone quite a bit), but I carefully tested all of the contenders currently available on Tmo and available unlocked. I opted for the N4 from Google Play.
I guess there may be a rattle but I honestly didn't notice it until I read about it (and I'm still not sure I hear it like some hear it). I've been shocked at how fast and buttery smooth Jelly Bean is. It really is awesome.
Hardware feels more elegant than other Android devices I've felt... Screen is beautiful and battery life has been fine for me (lasts a full day of moderate use).
I dunno. Maybe it's still honeymoon but I'm happy with it!

I just came from the HTC Radar and the Nexus 4 is an amazing update, not even looking back
I agree with the rest of them. N4 is the best, and I came from an International Galaxy SIII (i9300).
N4 had two updates in the first week I got it. Guess how many OFFICIAL updates my Galaxy SIII has had in 6 months? 1.
N4 by far thanks to Tmo's 3G network, on ATT it is a little less desirable (~3Mbps download is downright average) but I would NEVER consider getting a phablet like the note and I prefer stock android to any skinned version.
I'd rock an N4

The n4 is all of those things you are asking for.
To address your gripes:
Rattling: it's the auto focus mechanism. Many phones do this, is meant to happen. You probably won't notice it unless you are looking for it.
Buzzing: I've heard about this, my phone doesn't have the issue.
Glass back: personal preference
Overheating: I have been playing games, no heat issues to report.
The only thing that has been happening, which was also happening on my GNex with 4.2 is a rare soft boot crash. The X pops up out of nowhere. I would imagine an ota will fix it.
Glad to get home from work (posted this while on break) and to see that there have been several replies, and without any infighting at that. Good for this thread, pat yourselves on the back ladies and gents.
To follow up on a few things, I loved my Radar when I first got it, HTC makes excellent phones, and many people (not super high end phone people) were surprised by how nice the screen was, just dismayed by the side...the unfortunate drifting island that is windows 7.5 is what made me start looking for a replacement. As well as the ability to easily recoup the money that I would spend on an N4.
To those of those that touted how much they liked the N4, have you had any issues at all. I know some touched on not having the same issues that i mentioned. The yellow tinted screen is something else I have seen mentioned. Of those who have the phone how many are from THE 1ST BATCH of sales. Am curious to see if there is a chance that most of the problems were with the 1st batch, or possibly foreign made batches.
It looks like it is going to to be a good match, but still want to hear more and from people who haven't posted.
For those that came from the sIII, note or gnex, what do you like more about the N4 through your use already.....and any suggestion on cases?
Your in the Nexus 4 forum asking about the best phone for tmobile. I wander how this will play out...
The only main issue that you need to debate if you can handle it with the nexus is the buzzing/ crackling noise from earpeice. Some say it's doesn't matter, because they can't hear it, but some phone have it worse then other. I have two nexus 4 here and one is not noticeable, while the other is quite loud. Also Yellowing spot on the phone when it gets warm which happen when you play game or watch a hd movie for a bit. The yellow spot is most likely a hardware issue, it's not the same as a yellow tint which you may also get.

It seems from reading that you either get the the yellow spots or the yellow tint, if anyone is getting the yellow tint, is it consistent or off and on, and do you think they will call for a recall due to any of these issues?
Note 2 IS THE BEST at the moment in terms of specs
But N4 is still a good choice, more budget friendly AND it may lose in specs on paper, but it has yet to crash and is SILKY SMOOTH.
also not to bash on note 2, but my friend just got it and i had a few minutes to play with it....but after using pure android (came from sg2), note 2 felt VERY bloated and sometimes slow (note this is on stock)
BTW i have no issues with my phone, but other have said that you can always do a rma thru google. and ofc tmobile honors factory defects as well.

Also although we(n4) have the same CPUs and GPU as the LG optimus G, when the Optimus G is compared with the note 2 they were basically a even match with the note 2 slightly ahead in some of the benchmarks. Now we know the optimus G is one hell of a phone and we should also too right? But with the currently thermal throttling/overheating, we arent even up to the optimus G level yet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSF6zFc6pV0
i know benchmarks dont mean sh1t but same with specs looks good on paper but it doesnt reflect its daily usage.
That's why i said in terms of specs its better. i didnt say that its the best overall.
I really wanted to get the N10, I really did. But Google just had to **** it up with their terrible customer service and a ****ty checkout system that spews out errors every single time. I'm done waiting around, so now looking for an alternative, any suggestions/recommendations?
I'm more of an Android fan obv.
TIA.
UPDATE: I ordered mines after a few e-mails with Google. Got the beast. It's amazing!
Ordering from Google was a piece of cake for me. I ordered it on a Saturday, got it that Thursday (Lexington, KY to Los Angeles). But I've never had to deal with their Support, so I'll take your word on that.
Having said that, I honestly don't think you'll find another tab that compares with the N10, but I love mine so much I'm hardly objective. I believe if you persevere with Google you'll thank yourself down the road.

Their support is basically "read the online help sections!!!!".
Anyway, I got this email just now from Google:
"Hello,
During a recent review of your Google Checkout account, we were unable to
verify your information.
As a result, your account has been temporarily suspended and you will be
unable to place orders. In order to resolve this situation, please provide
us with the requested information of MR XXXX
within 3 business days by filling out this form"
Um, I have been buying apps with this account for a long time now. What gives?
You got me, bud. If it's a credit card issue, maybe your card company can help. Sometimes when your billing address isn't *exactly* as it's written on your statement it can cause problems. But if you've been been using the same card all along, that's probably not it. I know because of the expense of the tab, my card company called me to confirm I had placed the order before they would authorize it. Maybe that has something to do with it.
I would tell you to buy from Amazon, but the last I checked, their pricing was higher.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
The best alternative right now is IMO is the Kindle HD 8.9, but it is much more difficult to root and all that. If you wait a few more months other companies will have powerful tablets out with new processors and probably high res screens.
You could buy the nexus at retail too? I almost got the Samsung note 10.1 myself. Its screen isn't as nice and I would miss a few other things like the front facing speakers. But the note has the stylus and doesn't have the habit of rebooting unexpectedly either.
Aren't you going to have to straighten out Google's credit card issue in order to buy apps in the future anyway?

The note also has front facing speakers. The shape is very similar to the n10. Major difference is the note has a plastic feel to it and in my opinion doesn't feel as solid as the n10.
Also the note does not suffer from light bleed bit you're right, the screen is not as nice!

I'm in UK, and I don't think any retails sell the N10. I would have bought from Amazon but they are £100 more dearer and eBay prices are just insane - in comparison to Google's price tag.
The main reason why I want the N10 is for the screen. I'm a picky prick when it comes to screen resolution. Is light bleed a huge deal on these devices?
I've sent Google the docs they asked for anyway.

Only alternative that ccould match up with the n10 is going to the the Sony Xperia Tablet Z but you will have to wait another month or two. It may actually be a little faster than the n10 as well.
There has been a lot of complaints regarding light bleed but personally it wasn't an issue. Sure I can see some slight paleness on 2 sides in the dark at max brightness but in regular light using auto-brightness I don't see it on a dark screen. And quite frankly I would never have even noticed if it hadn't been for the notorious thread here. LOL
Best alternative its to wait for a new product... Nexus 10 II ... Maybe these guys from google will solve issues with battery life and with charging time.. I wasn't planning on taking the tablet outside much, Used for indoors mostly, so when not in use would be charging. How 'bad' is the battery life like?

There are various experience with the battery... I dont know where its the problem. I tired all the variants. Kernels rom.. Brightness etc but i cant get more of 5 hours screen on ( normal use)
I realized the problem imediatly after ive got the tablet.. 3 hours at that time from 100 % to 0 %... After few cycles ive got 5 hours but after more cycles she remained at this average. I can not do a RMA anymore. Mine doesn't have screen bleeding. Maybe you will have luck to find one with battery and screen ok. By the way, the screen its nice but not so amasing . No deep Black make sometimes screen look cheap LCD. And so what its grate for some if they almost all keep it like 30% for keep the battery alive more. Sorry for my english
Anyway the main reason i like it its because it rolls android... And have a good cpu... Besides this horror customer care from google. No original accesorie yet after months from launch... That is not the way i hoped from a monster like google and Samsung.

Samsung note 10.1
I think this tablet is the best alternative right now, because color reproduction is more vibrant then the N10. Black is deep, other main color like red, blue, and green look much more attractive to the eyes beside from the true multitasking. ( That's why I return N10 for the note 10.1). The screen isn't that sharp compare to the N10 but it isn't that bad. (If you use the tab at a right distance, then you won't notice the pixels). Color and the true multi screens, and S-pen are a plus for the Note 10.1. In my opinion, It is the best tab since I already used the Asus transformer prime, Microsoft Surface, Nexus 10. Sorry about my English and I hope this help you.

An amoled will ALWAYS have better blacks then an LCD. Its the nature if the display. Blacks on an Amoled are pixels that are turned off, whereas an LCD panel reproduces blacks while lit. Produced blacks (amoled) > Reproduced blacks (LCD). The trade off is worse battery life, inaccurate (but over saturated, which people love) colors, and mostly god awful whites.
The Nexus 10 is a fabulous tablet. It has its issues, they all do. But for a power user like myself, there isn't even a competition. I cannot use a Touchwiz device, and ASUS burned their bridge with me over the Nexus 7. (EMMC issues, build quality nonexistent). Sony is a true competitor but I cannot stand around for months waiting for a company to issue an update. Developers are great, and porting AOSP and CM are good in general, but they have issues and most of the time the cons outweigh the pros and I have to fall back to a stock based system. To each their own though, there is not a "One tablet fits all", even the iPad isn't perfect. I couldn't get past the Apple wall, and 4:3 aspect ratio

Amoled screens have an infinite contrast ratio, your HTC Desire will have deeper blacks the an any single non amoled device out there, put it next to an iPhone, a Nexus 4, a Droid DNA and the result will be the same.
The black levels could be better here, I won't deny that.
Wait for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. It's rumored to have a high resolution screen like the Nexus 10. Hopefully one with deeper blacks and punchier colours though.
Hopefully it will be announced on the 14th of March with the SGS4.
Just curious...is the Nook HD+ with Cyanogen worth a look? It's a bit bare-bones compared to the N10 (no BT, no camera) but otherwise, it seemed like a good value @ $269. From what I can tell, you can even buy an N2A card to make the transition to CM painless.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
If you don't need Android... The iPad 4 is a decent enough alternative. Slightly heavier, thicker and lower resolution screen. They are on sometimes on sale too.
In android world... If not the nexus... Maybe the new Asus Memo. It's a 300 tegra 3 tablet... SD and it looks like Asus fixed the memory. If not the nexus, I'd honestly wait because a whole new generation of processors are coming.

I had some questions about the nexus 10 I ordered mine from play store shouls be getting here soon after I readed all these problems im ready thinking its gonna be bad like some people say . How do getting replacements work . Do they send me one first then I send messed up one back . After the 15 day return period could you still get replacements if like the screen leeks bad . ???????
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
If you let Google put the cost of a new Nexus 10 on hold then they will send you a Nexus 10 while you still have yours. The money will be released when they receive your old Nexus 10.
Replacements are done through Google first, and after the return/replacement period then warranty for hardware defects is through Samsung. The Nexus 10 comes with a 1 year warranty, but a couple people have had problems with Samsung trying to say the warranty is only 90 days. The booklet clearly says 1 year though, and I think it says 1 year in the Play store when you buy the tablet so Samsung will have to honor that. If there are too many problems try and get Google involved with Samsung not upholding warranty on Google's tablets.
And it is really just 15% of people making a large stink about problems, many people are perfectly fine and happy with the tablet. Of those 15%, probably 5% will simply never be happy and just want to cause problems.
When you get your tablet be sure to set your background to solid black and delete all icons on the homescreen. Turn the brightness up half way and look for backlight bleed. if you have some, then you should consider returning the tablet for a new one, especially is the bleed has a yellow color to it rather than white. You can turn the backlight up higher to check with more brightness, but if you dont notice it at 50% then you probably wont ever notice any issues with the screen during any use.

Yes i would buy it again ...
but with more care about the possible defect . test the product very good before decide to keep it or not . dont trust google and samsung
- test the bleeding ( i have alot 4 points )
- test the battery . you should get at least 6 hour of screen minimum minimum on surfing the net . ( i get 5 )
- test the hdmi out ( i got it deffective from the box )
At least this are my problems

Yes I love mine. It is extremely smooth with custom ROMs and kernels. We have lots of great options from developers, battery life is exceptional, and the screen looks amazing watching an HD movie or TV show. I suppose if I had ever had problems with the tablet then I may feel differently, but I have yet to have any issues whatsoever. My one regret is that I did not purchase a 32GB version. If I could go back I would have waited another week to buy and paid the extra $100 for double storage space. I have a lot of games installed and my tablet is 90% full on space at all times and I wish I could install more.
I also have the note 10.1 which one you think is better .

I havent used the Note 10.1 so I really dont know. The performance on the Nexus 10 is much better, and I like the higher res screen. But I heard the colors still look nicer on the Note 10.1.

When do you notice the light bleeding?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
My tablet does not show any hint of light bleed until it reaches 80% or more brightness on a completely black background. Which is pretty good since LCD screens just inherently have light bleed because of how the backlight is designed for the tech. I have never even gone above 30% brightness while in doors, and outside at 100% it would be impossible to see any backlight bleeding anyway.
Once your tablet arrives I highly suggest the KTManta kernel. It has lots of fun options and the only kernel with a bit of color fix.

I love my N10. But this is my second one, I had to RMA my first one. I was pretty vocal about the problems I was having, because of this:
+Its true that there is a lot of problem threads about this device. Partially this is from Android 4.2.1 not playing well with the N10, partially its because there are some defective N10 devices out there. I know because I had one! When you, the end user, has a general problem and then you go online to try and see if there is a fix, you find these threads, and everyone chimes in together it starts to get intense. Some of the people, as another user said, may never actually be satisfied. But others are reporting real problems, trying to find a fix. Im a lot more OCD than most people I meet, so I just assumed that was what was going on. I assumed I was just being picky, and that others were just being okay with it. But now, after using a different N10, I can say there was a guaranteed problem with my first unit.
So, just like the people that say "bad" need to be taken with a grain of salt, so do the people that say "good". I can say this: there are both good and bad N10s out there, and one thing EVERY new N10 owner needs to do is QUICKLY determine if you have a good or a bad one so that you can remedy the situation ASAP if you have a bad one.

There's two things I'm not a big fan of on the Nexus 10:
- Thermal throttling (this shouldn't even be an issue under normal circumstances, but the situation is far better than it was around launch)
- Available memory (we only have access to 1.2GB of RAM, not anywhere near the advertised 2GB)

Nope. I rooted it as soon as I got my hands on it. My fave: Rasbeanjelly + Trinity..
Edit: Thermal throttling is a common problem across all Nexus devices. But I don't consider it a big problem because I'm underclocked.
I own a HTC sensation.
Now that the N4 price is dropped I am very tempted to buy it. I also have a N7.
I basically have no problem waiting for the nexus 5 as my HTC is still very much functioning. The one reason which gets me into a dilemma is that the N5 prolly gonna be atleast a 5" screen. At this size, this basically makes my brand new N7 kinda pointless, dont you think? will there be a noticeable difference that will justify having a 7" tablet and a 5" phone?
I dont think that by the time the N5 is out, the N4 would still be in stock cuz of that price, so I kinda need to make my decision fast.
and a small side note question about the N4. The reason Im thinking about the N4 is cuz I want a screen a bit bigger than the my 4.3" sensation.
My question is, with the on screen navigation bar, will my screen look like a 4.3", hence I will not be a difference in the screen size experience?
Buy the N5 it won't make your N7 pointless. I own the 7 and currently using Note 2 as my DD. I did just buy the N4 due to the price drop but will also buy the N5 the moment it's available assuming 5+ inch screen.
I also owned a Sensation a number of phones ago...either the 4 or 5 will be a huge leap forward.
Good luck.

thanks. more opinions are welcome
Probably the new nexus will also be the N4 just like they did with the N7, but i think there will be a small screen increase, and a S600, both to lower the price.

I would buy it. Nexus devices hold their value, New one comes out just sell it, recoup some of the cost for the new device.. heck, mint galaxy nexus still sell for a lot.

and what about the actual display size? since i dont watch videos or game on it, but mostly browsing, does it really looks like its a 4.3"?

No! Software keys make display 4.5/4.6" from 4.7, not 4.3!
And if you don't have any problems witg N4's internal storage go for it, waiting for N5... What's your most usage from your phone?! Just WebBrowsing or...?!

gps, web browsing, whatsapp, few pictures, and calls. i dont game or watch movies simply cuz i have a brand new N7 for that. i dont store music or movies on it so 8gb i believe are enough for me. i have 16gb on my Sensation and i barely use less than half of it

So... The last problem is battery! By just numbers, a 2100mAh is good but in real life, not so good! Maybe with these works ( gps, web browsing, whatsapp, few pictures, and calls) it last about 75% of day, if it isn't a problem for you it can be very good, surely you can make it better by custom kernels and roms
-------------
But waiting for N5... By rumors the biggest upgrade is going to be The camera and chipset, while you're not a photographer and a gamer or s.th like this, N5 won't be an awsome upgrade for you!

Dnt worry abt the softkeys. After rooting u can make the nav bar small in no time at all... Mine is on 60% of its usual size so it doesnt affects me at all. Also the wider display means a bigger display... As in u will start to feel the sensation's display being"narrower" to the extent that it's gna be annoying.
But my advice is to stay with ur sensation just till the N5 comes out.
I mean Viper is gonna come with a Sense 5 ROM soon so you'll enjoy your Sensation once more people do say that its even smoother than Sense 4.1 even in the initial Alpha builds!
Just stay with your sensation and if the N5 impresses u.. Go for it
If you see you're not so much impressed by it then u can always come back to the N4!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I forgot to mention that rooting the phone is NOT an option. I rooted my sensation and it was nice to switch roms and stuff to make my phone better, but i am already passed that stage and the reason i want a google phone is cuz i want something that runs smooth and gets updates without messing with roms and kernels.
like i said before, i wouldnt have a problem waiting for the N5, but this is a risk because with the price cut of the N4, i am not sure that the supply will last for another 2-3 months
battery does concerns me and i have read about this issue and i know its not great battery. from my usage list, i do not use the gps every day, nor to do i browse every day. even if i do browse its not that much. i am mainly using whatsapp, very few pics and not that much phone calls. i would say my usage is light to moderate max. that is why i am truly hoping that i can easily pass a day
besides the battery i was also concerned with the volume quality and mainly the speaker. not really for music but more for making calls when im on speaker driving in my car. i am hoping that its better than my sensation and sound is loud enough. this is one of the reasons i first thought about the HTC one GE, but not way in hell im paying again $600 for a phone especially for my humble usages
well, the 8gb is out of stock, so it looks like the N5 it is
