ota while rooted - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In my notifications there is a new system update that it wants me to download that I can't get rid of. I am rooted using the motochopper method and was wondering if I can accept this ota? Will it brick my phone? Will it unroot me? Not a big deal to me if it unroots, just need to know what will happen

I guess u wont be able to update since u have already rooted that makes a device custom only official device software firmware can be updated
U can give it a try

You can update via the Kies software, but you'll need to re-root after

[Q] updating with root

I'm new to rooting and i just rooted my device yesterday. i running with the stock ROM 4.2.1 and I'm wondering if when Google pushes out the next update will i be able to update. and if i do can update will I brick my device, lose root, or will nothing happen.
If you have the stock recovery it will update like normal and kill root.
If you have a custom recovery it will download but not install, doing nothing.

Updating will devalue your phone when you sell it in the future because people that want to buy the phone from this forum won't care for the phone after you update it. Why do you want a crippled phone?

There's a thread on how to update from MDL to MF9. Idk where though, sorry, you'll have to search. You could also just do what you did but with MF9 instead of the MDL.
MF9? You mean MF3...

From my experience, if you root your phone, and do NOT flash a new rom, then you will receive OTA updates, but unless you enable OTA survival, you will lose root after an OTA upgrade.
If you want OTA updates, root the stock rom without installing a new rom.
Also can someone tell me if I install stock rom with odin,I will be able to receive updates?.Ive knox 0×1

I forgot about that....you do need the stock recovery. I have done an OTA on my S4 with root though... you just can't have a custom recovery.

Ota Updates are only factory to be able to install the 3e recovery rooted or non-rooted.
Just make sure your system status is official not custom , u can modify that through wanam xposed
And if you firmware is not the same original region , go to /efs/imei/mps_code.dat , and change it to the current firmware region

It isn't stock binary status that is needed, but the stock 3e recovery is. Custom recoveries do not have the ability to do an OTA upgrade.

Hello, my friends. I need help from us. I have Samsung SGH-I337 Z, I337ZTUUAMH1 4.2.2 android version. I need to update this telephone. I bought it with ROOT, Sim-Unlock yet. I want to update this for latest android version like a 4.3 or 4.4. I want to know can i do this or not? And if i can, how i can do this? Thank you, I counting on your help.

Help please
To get the ota update you need to return your device to stock. I googled i337Z firmware and found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448794
If it updates to 4.4.2 there currently is not a root method so if you need root you'll have problems.
Edit, oh, backup everything first as it'll delete everything
Help
Up, i need 4.3 android on i337z mh1, not stock update
Well the 4.4.2 update is available but I'm not going to update because it might loose root

I can confirm that towel root works on the I337Z with 4.4.2, build TUUBNE2. However, Safestrap doesn't seem to work. Also, at least for the time being, I don't see any way of unlocking the bootloader with 4.4, so you may want to try to unlock the bootloader before upgrading to 4.4, if that's of interest to you.
agree I rooted a store demo with towel root and it worked hahaha , but I haven't tried safestap on a phone running kitkat , mine is running the intika rom now and I'm not planing to update for now
One thing that is a bit concerning to me, is that towel root requires internet access to function.. it makes me wonder why.
For the most part, I'm ok with the stock (rooted) rom, as I can disable/cleanup most of what I need to. The only thing I haven't been able to fix is the missing hotspot option - not sure how to get this option to show up.

If I root my phone using this method, Will I be able to get OTA updates after this?

I want to root my phone SM-G530H using the following method http://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-prime/general/successfully-rooted-galaxy-grand-prime-t2935607
But Im afraid that I'll not be able to get OTA updates after rooting my phone. If I will not get OTA updates after rooting my phone using this method then tell me how can I root my phone and still get OTA updates after that. Pls help!
Flash a stock rom..u get root u get no ota
