[Q] FolderMount - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys.. i am new to xda... please let me know how to fix FolderMount Illegal Instruction when i open it and click on Source or Destination link... it says illegal Instruction... well I am owning Galaxy s4 i9500 model running jellybean 4.2.2... Thanks n Regards.

I believe that the paths you are using are not allowed, you need to specify one of the folders on the internal storage, and not the whole storage. Try with one specific folder and check will it work.

I'm having this problem as well, but on my ASUS TF101. Rooted and running the EOS 4 build 109 with kat kernel 103.
When i open up folder mount i get the same error and no option to locate a different path.

[Q] Flashing creates 0 folder

Hey guys, anyone know why or is having the same problem, I've flashed lots of roms but this time a folder named "0" was created and moved all of the folders and files from the root drive into that "0' folder. Then I flashed another rom and another "0" folder was created within that first folder and moved all the root folder and files into that one. Im using twrp and Im not doing anything different and its driving me nuts cuz everythings being tossed around in there and I dont know why!
It is happening to me too when I flash ParanoidAndroid on my N7 (although that has been the only rom that I have flashed on it thus far). But what I have been able to gather from reading around is that those sub folders is because of being able to add accounts now to Android. Although I haven't figured out why (or found a response as to why) it is moving them into a legacy folder (I think that is one of the folders is called that the info has been thrown into) and not been kept into the root folder or a way to fix it.

You need to update your recovery. The latest version of TWRP works with the multiuser feature.

****WORKAROUND*****Share internal sd memory between sammy and CM10.1 roms

Hello friends,
Now that the amazing Gokhan has found a way to successfully have cm10.1 as second rom the main hurdle in daily usage for me was that all the data was on my internal sd root and cm looks for files in sdcard/0 folder hence I have found a small workaround which is working perfect for me and everything is awesome :
STEPS :
1) This is assuming that you have a sammy rom as 1st and cm10.1 as second rom already installed and while performing this step your SIII should be booted in samsung rom
NOW PLEASE DELETE ALL FOLDERS FROM 0 FOLDER AND MOVE ALL YOUR INTERNAL SD DATA TO THE 0 FOLDER please ensure that the data in 0 folder i backed up
2) Install directory bind from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262 credits to the dev
3) go to directory bind preferences by hitting the menu button and tick alternate database management
4) go to the main screen of directorybind -> add new entery -> long press where it asks the source and select sdcard/0/Android and press select
similarly long press path area in target and select sdcard/Android and save and then highlight the floppy icon and it should turn green. In the same manner folders like games and whats app can be linked and by doing this you will have all the files in both the roms
I understand the above steps are little difficult and confusing but for now this is the best work around I have thanks
I was searching something like this for a while, im looking for a way to have whatsapp on my sammy stock rom and tamasek cm 10.1 i know you cant have 1 whatsapp account on 2 different phones but i have a dualboot and thats with the same sim offcourse......
Im trying to find a way to create an symlink or mount sammy stock from cm 10.1 to have a working whatsapp on both roms with dualboot.
The problem is that i have cm 10.1 as first rom and sammy stock second.
Maybe anyone else knows how to have whatsapp working on those 2 roms on dualboot?

I'm not sure I understood the first step. Should I
1. Backup all my files in the sdcard/0/ folder
2. Delete all my files in the sdcard/0/ folder
3. Move all data from sdcard/ to sdcard/0/ (excluding the sdcard/0/ folder, of course)
???
If I've to do so when will I restore my sdcard/0/ files?
Thank you anyway for the idea, really helpful

Directory Bind not working properly on CM 10.1

hello , i'm about to move my games into external sd card using Directory Bind on my p3110 CM 10.1 . I've followed step by step mentioned to apply binding , and everything went ok without "error message" . but the problem is the data not actually "binded" , when i start the games it keeps asking for download even though i already bind it and it successfully transferred into my extcard . i dont know if it related to the ROM itself but anyone have ideas ?
thanks :good:
use foldermount just search this forum and download it
It's a known fact DB doesn't work on 4.2.x. Since the app has been abandoned for quite a while, look for alternatives.

hey see
go to app prefrences and make sure only three things are checked (bind on boot) and (alert on unbind failure) and (dbt mgmt <am not sure of its name but it is the second last option>) and then:
1) move files manually from sdcard to extsdcard eg: from sdcard/Android/obb/com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftM4HM
to /mnt/extsdcard/Android/obb/com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftM4HM
** make sure the path is similar each and every file except the diff btw extsdcard and sdcard like if u copy from obb folder create a folder on extsdcard called obb ok
** also after u create similar paths move the data inside the folder u want not the folder itself eg here u shud move what is inside com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftM4HM
2) once moved go to directory bind make a new bind and choose the paths as usual but instead of ticking transfer files dont and just click add
3) then click on the grey icon on the left of the screen to make it green then enjoy!!!!!
plz press thanks if this helped dont just say it

[FLASHABLE] Vold.fstab SD Card Swap for Jellybean/ICS - Encryption Unsuccessful Error

Hey everyone, just wanted to share these flashable .zip's with any whom have been affected by the Encryption Unsuccessful Error. If you've been affected, then you certainly know how monotonous of a task it is to edit the vold.fstab every time you install a new ROM. Well, with the recent explosion of Jellybean ROMs, I realized just how annoying it can be. Jumping from ROM to ROM became a chore, and after finally deciding enough was enough, I put together these flashable .zips for all to enjoy. Now switching ROMs is a seamless task! Even with the EU error!
Simply download and flash the appropriate .zip, and it'll switch out your old vold.fstab with a modified one. This can be done directly after installing a new ROM. Links found below:

Do you think these will work with Captivate? Thanks!

I can guarantee you, without a doubt, that both of the above flashables work for both the Vibrant and the Captivate.
I even double checked, just to be certain.

Dude! You are my hero:laugh:!!! I have been, for 2 weeks, trying to set this tricky Vold.fstab file with no sucess, at all (after the internal SD crashed).
Your .zip worked perfectly on my CM10.. Now i`m back to mobile multimedia :good:
Next step is to fix my GPS Hardware (but it can wait)

I'm sorry, but this did not work for me. I have a Galaxy S3 which I rooted and flashed with cyanogenmod, nightly builds. So it had Jelly Bean on it. Last week suddenly it got hit with this encryption unsuccessful bug!
My phone is completely useless now, unless I can find some way to fix this.
I don't even know how to find out how the internal devices are named. However, in clockworkmod I saw this error:
mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 on /data: I/O error
So apparantly the internal storage is on /dev/block/mmcblk0, with at least 12 partitions.
Is there any way to find out what the right device file names would be for the galaxy s3, for the external sdcard?
Is there someone who could prepare the right vold.fstab to put android on the external sdcard for the s3, and make a flashable zip file for it?

Feiteng H9500 - vold.fstab !!!HELP!!!
Hi, I beg you for help!
I needed to replace my phone's internal SD card with external SD card, I did everything according to the instructions of the net. Through root explorer I found a file vold.fstab (system / etc / vold.fstab) and replaced it with a downloaded file vold.fstab. After rebooting everything should be ok, but unfortunately it was not - now I have only the phone memory. The original file I unfortunately accidentally backed up to the internal SD which I can not get I do not know what to do, without fixing this problem, the phone useless. I would very much appreciate if I'm with someone of you can help. Example, if a anyone have the same phone (Feiteng H9500) and could you send me the file vold.fstab. Thanks

Tab 2 and Swapsd

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3113 with 4.1.1 installed . Rooted it with no problem .Was going to use swapsd on it since i use it on my Samsung exhibit ii 4g . It wouldnt flash on my tab , so i downloaded the apk from jocala .
The apk installed fine , but after a reboot i was getting many errors , unfortunatly , ******* has stopped . Was coming up with at least 15 different programs, display, storage , mtp ...etc
So i did a factory reset , still had the problems . wiped cache and tried a few other things . Started to download a stock rom , and remembered what swapsd actualy did . it modified the file vold.fstab in the /etc dir , luckily it made a backup of the original. I had to go to the play store and download es file explorer ( a horrible program, root explorer is much better ) . Set it up to allow root access and root dir . Went to /etc and deleted vold.fstab and renamed the backup to its original .
I dont know if anyone else has had this problem , but just in case someone uses swapsd and has the same problems, this is the fix for it .
Also , does anyone know if there is a way to use the external sdcard instead of the internal ? Samsung needs to allow us to install to external sdcard .
There is a workarund. Search for an app called FolderMount. It's here, on xda.
You can use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33398164
Because you are on firmware that is below 4.2
I use folder mount because I'm on a ROM that is 4.2.2, i can say that both work well, but you can use the former to entirely swap your SD. Just follow the instructions and it works well.
