[Q] Ad Blocking - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted my I9505, but neither AdAway or AdFree seem to block the ads they used to on my S3. I am using the same apps (Titanium Backup restore) so why would this be the case?

I'm using Firefox Beta with adblock plus add-on and everything works great here.

For me it works with AdAway. (I9505 XXUAMDN)
Maybe try a new install from the scratch..

Tell us the apps which have annoying ads and I'll check if AdAway blocks them on mine.
It's blocked every app-ad perfectly for me.

My adaway works great also... but some of the apps with ads built in are not blockable.... The internet and all that works
But tell us which apps and we can test as well

Can you try:
CPU Spy Plus Free
Uninstaller
Both of them didn't show ads on my S3, and now they do on the S4

Thanx I'll get back to you when I have trIed these options.
I successfully rooted using towelroot and installed supersu. I also installed foxfi. It was able to get me past the mobile hotspot problem but still could not tether. It requested I install pd(something) On the computer first..Wil this always be the case? Can I not tether without installing that on the computer?
Also I have had to reset to factory settings because i happended to activate "talk back", the result was that the phone kept reading everything i touched but thats all it did meaning i could not select anything, not even switch off or do anything!! Not even unchecking talk back..instead it would read out loud "talk back" and the phone was hanging so bad ..another thing is the foxfi prompted for a password which then took over the screen lock. I went to screen lock settings to disable but the option of disabling was unavailable.
I have also noticed after trying to use the Light touch option that it works so terribly on 4.4.2. The whole screen un uniformly flashed pink at every touch in such a way that an epileptic would not survive the effects. I had to switch the phone off for this to be disabled as well. So there goes the woes of my Samsung galaxy s3 sch-I535 Verizon. Anyone able to address all my issues is more than welcome. Note: foxfi did not sort the tether problem. It sorted the hotspot though.
Download xposed installer. Then use xtether module. Then use st9ck hotspot app

Is Galaxy S4 i9505 worth rooting??

Hey guys, i am currently on Stock 5.0.1 and i always think android 6.0 marshmallow will come to the galaxy s4. i also think that something might go wrong in the rooting process and then my phone will not work... and it will be broken...
can anyone persuade me to root my phone?? i have rooted my old galaxy s3 before, because that was on jellybean which is outdated.
https://androidmtk.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s4-lte-gt-i9506 I think the process is the same, but you must download the right .tar file from here: https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
He asked for arguments on why he should root.
The advantage to rooting is the same on all phones.
You get the freedom to do whatever you want with it.
I, honestly, would feel very limited without root.
Thanks guys!
No mobile banking if you root (at least with my bank anyway). That's what is stopping me. I need my mobile banking app.
Other then that, no reason not to root.

You could bypass rooting checks on these kind of apps with RootCloak (Xposed required). - not all, just some

Totally worth it, even just to debloat a stock ROM, and watch the battery time go up
Anything beyond that is a further bonus.
I would never use an unrooted phone
It is completrly worth it for the freedom of custom rom

I googled it before and (at the time) Barclays (my bank) was able to detect rooted devices, no matter what anyone did to try and hide it.

I SAID SOME, means that not all apps could be bypassed, because some apps (especially banking apps) use native hooking for detecting root access and it couldn't be prevented by any way.
Latest beta of RootCloak added support of native hooking in hope that it would support more apps...

So I've had this problem before on my HTC One M8 and my Note 4. Snapchat used to look for xposed but now they switched it up to just look for su. If not it looks for the same thing that Android Pay looks for to check for a modified system.

AdAway

I tried to install AdAway, but I get errors after errors. Is anyone here who installed it on a j730f?
It's a root only app.
You can't use it without rooting your mobile.
To block ads on non-rooted mobile you can use Adguard.
I am currently using it on my J7 Pro and it works really fine.
My phone is rooted with magisk.

Then I think Adaway was unable to get proper root access permission.
Recheck that.
