This seems to be working on other stock roms...anyone know if itll work on the s4? There doesnt seem to need custom recovery or anything...only root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240180
Edit: reading thru the thread I saw people saying it works, just make sure its optimized for xxhdpi also.

You won't find many (if any, yet) that will fully theme the S4, as we have higher DPI screens (xxhdpi, as you mentioned). Plus I think our version of Touchwiz has a few extra pull down icons, so those probably wouldn't be themed either.
The theme I've had the most success with (it themes toast notifications, WiFi icon, and in-app toggles) has been the Alloy Holo theme.

Is there any means to extend the wallpaper underneath the Status Bar and Softkeys? I dislike the black banding, especially under the Softkeys. I know Paranoid Android does this but one reason I bought a Nexus was to get out of ROMs--plus I'd rather not waste space on ROM backups.
I have root and the willingness to muck about in the system APKs.
Bump.

Or, I could ask and see if any developer who already knows how this is done in Paranoid Android will tell me.
I would like to do this as well... is it possible without a custom ROM?
it needs framework modifications, but mods exist. evilisto made one if i remember that right.
i dunno why you would want one over a rom though. makes no sense. roms on nexus base on aosp and official vendors blobs. what you get is stock android plus features. you cannot compare it to roms on legacy devices which emulate android, need hacks and exploits.
ps. PA has per app coloring. this goes way past simple transparent bar on the homescreen.

heck no. pa is a playground for features you havent seen or known before, like hybrid engine. you wont find it anywhere else.
Hey,
I was curious to see if anyone had seen any ROM's that still had some of the Galaxy S4's feature in with it, but maybe changed the way the phone looked/worked. Such as giving a stock android like feel and look to the phone but still allowing the feature that the phone has, such as the air view, smart stay and the multi window.
I haven't seen anything about but i was just wondering if anyone had seen anything or heard of anything like this maybe happening because it would be awesome for this to happen
Thanks in advance
You haven't looked very hard have you
Just download any touchwiz based Rom and then flash a theme. Domination theme by Vertimus is in themes and apps section and it's an awesome AOSP theme. Check it out

Hi all, couldn't find a thread for this subject.
I like the transparent statusbar and I understand that when using apps or in certain screens it will be black but when I crop an image to use as a wallpaper shouldn't it be fullscreen ratio? On the stock wallpapers it is transparent but with a custom image it's black. Not sure if there's anything I can do as I'm no dev, but if anyone knows of a solution I'd like to hear it.
Thanks
Running rooted telus stock.

Samsung has a new update that has the transparent notification.
I make my own custom wallpaper. It shows up transparent just fine. I am/was confused about the transparent fix Samsung announced.
Currently I have a picture of grass I took. The picture was taken with the phone camera. The stock wallpaper app seems to do a good job cropping.
On the laptop using GIMP I crop and scale to 1920x1920 300 DPI. Canvas adjust to 1080x1080. Then Image size to 1920x1920 300dpi.
First screenshot is the grass background I made in GIMP. Second is a dandelion picture I captured and cropped on phone. They both have a transparent notification bar. Hence my confusion.

Ah, well... I am running rooted stock and when I go to update software I get toasted with something like "this device has been modified. There are no updates available" any way to fool it into thinking I have unmodified binaries or am I going to have to get on a custom rom to stay updated? I have put a lot of work into build.prop tweaks, init.d scripts, audio/visual mods, etc....it's just that the opaque status bar is a little thing that irks me. I also am a little bummed out knowing that I'm missing out on some cool little updates.

The new update has only been released to the Germany T-Mobile AFAIK. There are a couple custom ROM based on it using the transparent notification. If you want to keep root and a recovery, I would not recommend flashing anything from AT&T since its rumor they are working on a fix for that...

Yeah. Att doesn't work so well for me anyway. I have to flash a jfltecan kernel with any att rom I've found or I get stuck in bootloop and I'm worried about a potential bricking. Either way I don't like having att posted all over my telus phone so I steer clear. There are some cool telus based roms but I like to try and figure the mods out or at least ask around for reading material to help me.

Err . I didn't mean to add ATT crap in there since I saw the M on your sig... opps, its a habit
You can flash I9505 ROMs from what I have read. Not sure about your carriers track record in releasing updates in a timely manner (ATT sucks about that). Have you checked out the I9505 threads? Just make sure its I9505 Qualcomm and not the Octa-core I9500.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303125
Btw anybody notice this? I found it in the i9505 thread. It says it should work on any variant but I think I might be doing something wrong when manually editing build.prop because it hangs at the Samsung logo boot animation forever. When flashing the zips it says editing build.prop so maybe the manual edit is unnecessary? If I get it working I'll let anybody interested know, likewise if anybody else takes interest and can make it work let me know how.
(Edit) this doesn't work according to multiple people in the thread. Sorry for wasted space.

Have you tried the last 2.1.4 version? Any version prior to this soft bricks our S4!!!
I'm also using the stock Canadian on a SGH-I337M and I've never had any problems installing XposedFramework + many modules

You can root stock... and still be stock. Root refers to the user account it uses and permissions only.

Yea I know but when I said root I meant like I don't want to put a custom rom or anything like that. If I just root it is there anything I can so it stop the lag?

@shaqqq i installed nova launcher and it solved my problems with at least the home screen lag, and it gives you a touch of AOSP, personally i love AOSP.
i too have noticed significant lag compared to my note 2, when on stock. perhaps rooting and removing bloatware might help, but i ROM'd just for that reason (cleanrom+xposed)

I don't know if you have read the tons of suggestions to reduce or get rid of the "lag", but here it's a summary:
1-) Activate Developers options and then set to off all the animations options
2-) Freeze/Disable the AT&T and/or Samsung Bloatware
3-) Remove the option to activate the S Voice by double clicking the Home Button, go to options on S Voice and you will see it there.
4-) If you have the Default Weather Widget, get rid of it or at least set the options to not update all the time.
5-) if you have downloaded Swiftkey, people seem to have issues with it and Weather widget combined. try using Swype (already on your phone) or Google Keyboard that was updated on the Playstore and now most can have it for free.
Maybe there are a couple of other suggestions, but the last ones, 4 and 5, seem to have affected the most. I haven't had any lag but can't say that there is no lag, as there are a lot of people that seem to have it, so it seems that it maybe some productions issues if that's the case, that is affecting some, while others don;t have it.
Custom roms would be the only way to limit the lag, as most of the devs have pretty much put a stop to it. If you stay stock you will have to wait a LONG time until they release their slow ass updates.
I am running WanamLite with NO lag so far. The above post is about all your going to get running stock.

Either LG or, more likely, at&t have disabled the option to use the LG themes on the at&t G2. Does anyone know how we can enable it? I'm willing to upload any needed files that aren't already available if anyone wants to try. The theme ability is the only thing keeping me from using the stock launcher and I'd really like to use it since transparency won't work on Nova Launcher.

As just a side thought, maybe you can take the LGOG home apk and push it to system. That one supports themes...
I know that there's a thread for it. This guy took the apk and now there are versions for ICS, JB and JB 4.2. I think the 4.2 version of the home apk is worth a shot, since this phone runs 4.2.2 (the only difference is that it's slimmed down I think and made compatible).
Try it, just the clock doesn't work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198225
