Is there a theme that just makes the background in system-apps (like the settings-app) black and like when you adjust the volume?
Because I would like to just have that black instead of grey. And all themes I've tried till now are changing more than that...
Can't think of any themes, but using franco.kernel and his app the recommended colour settings makes that all (pretty much) black
You can also get custom ROMs, I think Slimbean, Xylon, Carbon, Liquidsmooth are some, that have a black theme you can apply in the settings.

Was using this one before going to blacked out ROMs. Pretty slick and there's also a free version.

I have seen some Samsung GS 4 ads and reviews in which the native apps such as the phone and messaging seem to have white background and skin rather than the traditional dark theme. More so the apps are having proper colour and its not the 'negative mode'.
Any idea how to activate the white skin on these apps? I hate the dark background!!!
This is from pre release versions, so you can't unless you use a deodexed rom with such a theme. But... you should keep dark themes whenever possible to get a better battery life (amoled screens use less battery with black backgrounds because the leds are turned off), so maybe try to get used to it, it's not that bad

Gem flat and simplex were my two favorite themes for theme chooser when I was using CM roms. There are threads for both here in xda, take a look and see if you like. You can use them even on stock with hk theme manager xposed module, I think.

I was also looking for similar themes and have found the following:
*Mianogen.
*iOS 7.
*Circle.
*Flat (by rayford85).
*MIUI v5 (There are three: 1- orange on white. 2- orange on black. 3- holo blue on black).
Edit:*Flow (is also a great theme).
And I agree with meatboy, Gem Flat and Simplex (both red and blue) are one of the best themes out there.
Maybe some of you know but I didn't know that. If you compare two android phones (can be different but one of them must be stock) colors are different.
Close all tabs in chrome and you see dark screen. AOSP users see dark green color on but stock users see grey on SGS2. And colors are more colorful more live on stock!
How to make colors look like STOCK on AOSP:
Download devil kernel manager on play store
Go to screen tab
Tune MDNIE Scenario value to 4

I'm new to Sony devices and was looking to get a dark theme set up on my new X Compact. After digging around I'm pretty confused abut the whole thing and thought I'd ask for some help here.
I'm looking for white text on a black background. I think I'm doing something wrong here, because I can't seem to find a white on black theme in the native Xperia themes, but I can find one for Substratum. This seems odd because my understanding was that Substratum was a port of Sony's Overlay Manager Service.
In any event, from my understanding I've got 2 options:
1) Install OmniROM and Substratum
2) Install CM13 and use the built in theme engine
I'm a bit reluctant to install CM13 as it's still in alpha, which leaves me with the OmniROM solution. Is this accurate? (I should note, that it's great to see so much development for the X Compact so soon after launch!)

I am not sure what you mean when you say you can't find a theme with white text on black background. Unless you mean that you want the theme to be always black, even in the settings and similar apps. That isn't possible, because since Kitkat Android (at least for Xperia) has two modes: bright theme and dark theme. The settings are always bright. I tried myself to invert the bright theme making it dark, but far too many things get unreadable because they aren't 100% customisable.

If you don't like it you can simply uninstall it and try another one. There are tons of free black themes. personally I'll never go as far as unlocking the bootloader and install a custom ROM just to have some different themes. Also because apparently most of the support for custom ROMs is ending. Cyanogenmod closed, for example. It has been taken over by someone else, but it won't probably be the same thing.
Thanks so much for your help with this. The monochrome theme you directed me to has some dark elements for sure, but I was looking for a completely black background. To be honest, I've been a bit surprised at how much I'm bothered by the white backdrop, especially at night. I've been using a dark CM theme on another phone for years, and didn't really think that a small change like this would make such a difference to me.

Nope. As I wrote the stock Android for Xperia doesn't support the dark panels on the bright themes. Or better, it's possible to put dark backgrounds in a bright theme, but after that far too many elements get unreadable. Dark text for starting, which can't be changed. The clock and SMS apps get quite messy for example.
The CM ROMs have its own customisation engine, different from the one Sony has implemented for the Xperia phones (and thus as far as I know their themes are not compatible). The same I believe applies to SubStratum, which I don't know. But I suppose you need root to install it. And also it may conflict with the Xperia customisation.
Still there are plenty of great themes that change the backgrounds to different colours or even images. They won't be totally dark, but they are a relief from the obnoxious pure white. Blue themes are usually the best for that purpose. Also the Golden themes are quite popular at the moment. I have applied several dark themes in roms MIUI 10 and the toggle bar does not change color, it always comes out white even if the subject has it dark. Is there any way to change it to dark background?:confuso:
There isnt any miui 10 full black theme compatible. Maybe in some time more.

I have downloaded several that say they are compatible with miui 10 and videos are seen in miui 10 with the dark toggle as for example the theme X Dark TT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq2v2wEA-qk

I would love to try this theme on my mi5s but when I follow the link everything is in Chinese. Also I flashed miui as a recovery rom and can not change region. There is only China...Could this be the reason why I haven't been able to download themes from the Theme store?
