thanks for the help

I purchased my S4 2 days ago, so far I'm loving it. However, for some reason the wifi keeps turning on even when I have the setting turned off (I get a decent 4G signal where I live & would prefer to use that when possible). Any ideas? I'm rooted with the stock ROM.

Do you have the "smart wifi" setting turned off? It is the first option on the wifi screen, tap it then turn it off and you should be good to go. If you have already done that then I'm not sure.

Hi there!
I'm having a really bad problem at the moment on my s4 (i9505). Recently I upgraded from stock (MDE) to pre-rooted (MF8). Since then, my WiFi has stopped working, and it seems to be the only thing that has gone wrong. When I toggle WiFi on, it immediately toggles off (both in the quick settings, and through the settings panel). When I mean immediately, I mean within 1/10 of a second.
I flashed another ROM over it (OMEGA V7) and nothing changed.
I feel as though I've missed something vital, and would rather work on a fix for it rather than flash stock through Odin and start from scratch. Any help is very much appreciated.
Check settings in WiFi. There is an option for using cell or WiFi based on which one is faster, disable it.

This is very strange, I've searched google for hours and absolutely nothing like the issue I'm having.

Ive had this issue before when my kernel and modem are mismatched but also when a weird setting is enabled... and I cant remember what it is.
Try a factory reset but do not restore your phone settings from google... only your contacts

No idea what's wrong. I literally JUST flashed a ROM. I've been doing this for almost 3 years and never have I seen an issue like this.
Might take the phone back.

I can't really say why this happens but a lot of times with this phone it seems that the MAC address to the wifi is somehow lost and by removing the /data/.cid.info file you can somehow reset something that makes things work again. I assume it's somehow tight to different wifi network chip drivers in different kernels but I'm not sure. On some ROM's I have tried I have to do this on every boot...

First, make sure you've turned off "Auto Network Switch" in the advanced section of Wi-Fi settings (go to Wi-Fi settings and press the menu key and select advanced).
Second, turn off WiFi Power Save mode in the ServiceMenu. Go here for directions.
I done what you said i entered the codes you said to enter on my dial pad and it didnt bring up anything no services menus...nothing. but i did go to wifi and then advance and unchecked the box you said to uncheck and waited to see if it would kick me off and it did it still kicks me off wifi while im in my bed room.

If you're rooted, you'll need to go to /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu....
Open the HiddenMenu file in a text editor and change OFF to ON
Maintaining capitalization of the word ON
Save file.
Then reboot. Try those dialpad codes again.

Dial pad codes worked like a charm went in and changed the band to B4Enabled*. Now im gonna hang out in my room for awhile and see if i get kicked off my wifi. Thanks a bunch for you help i just hope this works oh and yes i went to text editor and then carrier and deleted OFF and replaced it with ON then restarted my device then went back into carrier to make sure it saved and all is good. Just hop it fixes my problem. Thanks again.
Now i need to tryn figure out how to make my call signal better....lots and lots of fun this phone is
When it kicked me off before it took awahile before it would connect back. While in the process of typing i got kicked off but connected back veryfast. Strange because im only about 15ft or so away from the router. I have noticed a big difference though, before my bars would fluxuwait from 1 bar to 5b now it usually stays at 5.
Anyother suggestions i can try
Go into your router settings and check/change the frequency(2.4-5) and the broadcast channel to match what the phone is using

12mb/s is a pretty slow speed. It's going to take a long time to download it. When you're downloading a file the speed you see is Mb/s not mb/s. Megabytes and megabits are a lot different.
AT&T service person came out today and upgraded my internet, from 3megs to 12megs. I asked the tech how fast it would download a 2g movie his answer was, " it should take about 15 mins at the most". Wireless is just a f#@$in scam the co$k [email protected]$!ers will tell you anything so they can get ypur money! The highest they offer in my area is 12megs funny thing about 15 miles from where i live they offer 50megs. Its just a rip off!! Ok i keep it straight..
Its my first Android device (The S4.)
Switching from my nokia c7 i've had this issue of alarm not going off when phone's off..
Actually i faced this problem that day when i had only 4% battery left (obviously it wasnt going to last that night)
So i turned off the phone and thought the ALARM would wake me up the next day..( as my nokia always did )
But to my surprise it didnt...
I did search for some solution on xda but no luck..
But then i saw the link of alarm working WITH PHONE OFF on the Rival HTC ONE..(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406083)
So i was wondering whether the devs would be able to make some app..(Or refer me if theres any as i couldnt find one..)
Thanks for your precious time..
Regards.
Me
EDIT : So i was going though some more stuff on this matter and found something relevent..
Like there is a real time clock running on pc (that keeps time even when its off)..
Maybe HTC does use that to make its ONE power on ..
I think some files in the kernel can be edited for some progress on our s4 ( I am completely a noob and have no idea about kernels n all , i just read it somwhere)..
Maybe some real pro can help us out here, by studying htc one's files.. and try to make it work on some other 'SmartPhones'.
+1 to that plenty of time phone nearly dead and would love to do this if possible

The problem is that some 'smartphones" never really turn off.
My Blackberry Storm was one of those and my guess is that the previous phone you had didn't either.
If the phone is in deep sleep mode, then it can wake up.
If on the other hand, it's off, and I mean really off, there is nothing you can do.
The current crop of Android phones turn off; not go into a deep sleep.
Then how can HTC one do it..
I mean it may go to deep sleep..
But can't our s4 go to deep sleep..?

When your screen is off your phone is in deep sleep. At least should be i dont know how they did it but when you turn off android phone its off. No alarm. Maybe they have modified fly mode and altered frequencies for cpu gpu etc to be just enough to ring alarm with almost zero power consumption. But again its not off. I miss that too. Its like where to **** is my charger or hope my alarm rings
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
With screen off battery goes down by more than 8-10%
I don't think that's deep sleep.. (in deep sleep battery shouldn't drain more than 2-3%..)
Yup if HTC can do that y cant Samsung.. Or other devs..

It's not a matter of firmware/software (which you clearly don't understand), it's a hardware thing. The hardware isn't capable of it.

Yes. Software-based. The question is that if a 3rd party app have access to the system to create an "auto on" or if is something that needs to be manage on the OS itself. Maybe with root access?
