[Q] USB and Battery issues - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello friends,
I'm having trouble on charging my nexus 7. When it is ON and I plug the original USB charger, it's not recognized by the tablet, and it doesn't recharge. So I have to turn it off and then recharge it.
Also, as the USB is not recognized, I'm not able to transfer files to my tablet, like movies, for example.
In short, my tablet does not recognize that an USB cable is plugged when it's ON.
Any ideas about how to solve it? My version is 4.2.2.
All the best,
Diego

I'm quit sure it's a hardware issue. I that case you should contact google and make use of your warrenty. Though you may try factory reset. I don't think it's gonna work.

Omnia 7 USB Problem

Recently I've been getting these "USB Malfunctioned" errors in Windows whenever I connect my phone to my computer. It was working fine a few days ago. I've tried disabling USB devices and resetting my computer but it fails to recognize the device. What could be wrong? I've tried replacing the USB cable and I'm running Windows 7. The phone is charging fine so I doubt it's a hardware fault. What do you guys think?
I had the same problem. I bought a new USB Micro USB-B Cabel.
Then it was all fine, no errors, no problems.
But I've tried another USB cable so what could the problem possibly be?
Could be your USB jack in the computer, happens to me. I have to unplug the cable, turn off the phone, then back on, and then plug the cable in and the computer.
The jack isn't so tight on my motherboard so if I move the phone while it's plugged in, it does a quick unplug, plug in, and that causes the problem for me.
It pisses me off cause it could totally f' up an update.
I've tried all the USB ports on my laptop, everything else works fine so it's not that.
Bump, some help would be good.
Bump, guys ._.

Well, I know precious little about stuff like this, but once you've exhausted all other possibilities it might be time for a hard reset and if that doesn't bring a cure, back to the shop, waving your warranty thingy.
Good luck!

I've got the same issue..anyone have any luck recently?
Try it on another computer, hard reset, if that doesn't work, contact Samsung for a replacement or repair.

need quick help please defy wont charge

Hey guys I am hoping someone can assist me. This morning when I woke up my defy would not charge. I have tried charging via my pc, ps3, and 3 wall chargers and it refuses to charge. The battery is at a very low state (around 7 percent). I am afraid if I call tmobile and/or bring it to their store and they look at it im screwed because im running CM9.
The phone is still under warranty for another few weeks, do I just chance it at this point and hope it has enough juice to flash the USA SBF and then go for warranty options or is there a fix for this?
EDIT: silly me, cant flash a SBF because my pc doesnt know my phones connected
did u try to use other usb cable ?
maybe the problem is the usb cable .
Yes all 3 chargers had different cables. My wife's LG marquee is charging fine on them
Sent from my LG-LS855 using XDA App
is it odd that without a battery in the phone I can wiggle the usb charger and my phone will boot into CM7? I thought it was odd, I kind of find it out on accident
EDIT heres the deal I can wiggle the usb end that plugs into the phone itself without a battery, and the red M logo comes up and will boot into CM7. At any time if disconnect the usb during this process, the phone turns off, If I leave the usb plugged in it continues to work. Anyone have an idea as to whats going on? It seems like it must be getting a signal from the usb cord
my friend, if you have an earlier complete recovery just boot into recovery mode the restore it. i can confirm that will solve your problem as i encountered the same problem before.
try to use an original usb cable.

Nexus 7 2012 - USB & Developer Toggle Cause Restart

I have a serious issue with my Nexus 7 2012. I put CM11 on it and all was great. The power got down to 11% on me, so I plugged it into my computer. I noticed it wasn’t charging, MTP didn’t kick in, and I couldn't get into ADB. I figured I’d screwed up the USB port. I tried different cables all with the same results. I turned the tablet off and plugged it in and the battery started charging. I couldn’t get MTP or PTP to work nor could I get into ADB after it was charged. I did a factory reset, clearing everything, and reinstalled. Same issue.
I can use my OTG cable and TWRP to install software on the tablet. I tried AKOP ROM. It allows me to use my OTG cable but the tablet doesn’t charge. I try to toggle MTP to PTP or turn off USB debugging and the tablet locks and reboots. I try to turn off the developer options toggle and the tablet locks and restarts.
Help! I don’t know what to do with it. I've searched all day.
Check the basics. When you plug your N7 into your computer, are you using a USB 2.0 port? Is it directly mounted on the computer's motherboard (i.e., a rear port)? Are the proper drivers installed so your N7 is recognized as a Nexus 7?
USB specifications only provide .5A power, v. 2.0A power from the AC charger. Get your N7 fully charged, then get back with whether it locks and reboots.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. I've done all of that. Multiple computers, multiple cables, multiple chargers. The Nexus is at 100%.
Here's the exact issue I have now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536272
Well. I'm going to say disregard. My searches show that a craptastic 12 volt car charger probably hosed the N7's mother board. I'm going to try one more fix but I'm sure it's toast.

[Q] i9505 Only Charges when OFF

Hey guys, since yesterday, my i9505 only charges when it is off.
When it is on, nothing happens. When it is on, if i connect the USB to the PC it also does not charge nor recognize any device (not even listed in "lsusb"). The connector is fine, because when i connect a USB OTG cable, and a USB stick, it mounts normally.
Also, from recovery and from Download mode, i am able to use USB cable connected to pc. So, problem is not with the connector.
I have flashed back to Stock, un-rooted, from ODIN. Still does not charge when is on.
It only charges when the phone is off. (Shows the battery icon, with a circle in the middle).
Also, i have tried annother battery too, and different chargers.
Any ideas?
Does not seem to be battery, does not seem to be software, does not seem to be connector, and does not seem to be charger.
obs: it charges when in recovery. (TWRP)
I have the same problem. Got it when going from 4.2.2 stock to 4.4.2 Pac rom.
Going back to 4.2.2 stock did not solve the problem
Any ideas anybody?

Mine was doing the same I changed charging port on my s4 and problem was solved
Yeap!
I changed the charging port too, and it solved.
It was actually very easy to change. I bought the part, and watched a Youtube video showing how to open the device..
Very strange, that it charged when the phone was off..
anyways,
it solved. I noticed that my original OEM charger with original OEM cable is only charging the phone with max 480mA... while, when i use my Tablet charger it charges up to 1500mA...
I know it should be going up to 1900mA or even 2A... but, it is not happening.
Maybe my charger is also faulty
...
at least it is charging now... =D

maybe it is a coincidence... try changing the port. If you have no warranty (like me), buy the part online and change it... it is easy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCJcBltgE-I
If you are not corfortable, take it to some repair shop

OTG USB and Charging at the same time?

I am trying to find a cable that would allow both charging and allow a USB device to be plugged. I have tried some that have said they would do it, but it did not do what it said. The cable would be plugged into a power source and have a USB device plugged in, but it never charged my phone. I am getting a bit frustrated and feel like I am running in circles.
Some that I am looking at are

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this, and have found something, preferably a cable or something that is portable. Something that I could take with me, plug it into an external battery and have a mouse, and/or keyboard and/or USB Drive. I was hoping that this would work both with my Galaxy S4 and my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4. Possibly even being able to plug in a USB Hub, or a Card Reader.
Thanks and May the Force be With You
I don't know if there is. I was looking for something similar too, to be able to play games on my phone using a gamepad and still be able to charge it at the same time.
I've seen people trying to improvise a cable.
