Nexus 4 build issue - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello , I read online that on the back the nexus 4 is suppose to have the plastic edges a little bit higher than the glass for protection? is it true? because mine doesn't . it is about the same level , maybe a micro-micro milimeter higher but hard to say... Also if I apply a little bit o pressure on the left corner (Not the one with the speaker , the other one aside ) i hear a squeaze , also that squeaze is heareble from almost every point where the glass ends if I press a little bit harder... Is it normal or mine is a dud and I should request a replacement?

Soft key backlight issue?

I noticed that there's a tiny gap between where the screen ends and where the frame begins. It looks really crappy when the backlight for the soft keys is turned on because the light shows through this gap.
(I used the nexus one camera for this, so it's not very visible. It looks a lot worse in person.)
Does anybody else have this? If not, I'll just go swap mine at the sprint store...
No light leak on mine!
I have the same problem although mine is a lot worse. Maybe I should get it exchanged.
No leak on mine. That would drive me bonkers....but I'm ocd. Bring it back!
Most have this
This goes hand in hand with the glass separation issue. Give it a good press down at the bottom and it will fix it for about 30 seconds. It's a problem with the adhesive. I'll be using my warranty once the evos are more readily available.

Same here..
I think they are all gonna get this at some point. Is it neccecarilly a defect? you cant notice it unless you sit in a pitch black room... also i use the silicon case that overlaps the glass just a little bit all around so i dont really notice anyways.
i like to read at night with dark mode. so just the fact that i can't turn off the menu lights irritates me. i used to use LEDshack on the droid.

Well, as it stands, its not a huge deal. The question is, how bad will the problem get? It has potential to be a serious problem if it continues to separate. (ie works it way on up the phone)

X10 Creaking

hello everyone
Today I noticed my x10 creaks when using the bottom three buttons and sometimes the touchscreen. I bought the phone brand new from carrier 2 days ago, does anyone else experience this? its nothing TOO serious, just quite annoying for someone with OCD like myself. What should I do?

It is a plastic-ey phone, with many components, so there will be some creaking.. Don't think you can do anything about it, sorry

My buttons don't make any noise. If you even hear the noise when pressing on the screen, maybe the back cover isn't fitted correctly?

Thats what I mean, its' not the buttons that make noise, but the back cover I believe.. when pressure is applied. I checked to make sure it is fitted correctly and it is. Also I believe there is a slight creaking on the front panel as well. Is this normal?
Yup, mine makes a noise too, but its not noticeable unless you're listening for it

No that's not normal. If it's only the back cover, maybe it's bend because you applied too much pressure when pulling it off. But if the front also creaks then there's something wrong. mine doesn't make creaking noises at all.
hmm. thanks to both of you for your responses. I don't know, I am getting 2 different answers. I wish I had another X10 to compare

I have 2 X10s, they both make the same noise
Its not such a big problem really... you get used to it after a while
Or maybe its just a problem with Canadian X10s
Mine creaks too now, but that's after about 5 months of heavy to semi heavy use.

I kno what you mean, but I had iphone before and the thing was as solid as a rock. With the X10, I apply pressure I can feel some 'give' as if i am pressing the panels together, which creates the slight creaking noise. I dont even know if I could describe it as creaking, its very minor but still noticeable
When I had the black x10a it creak for me when I pressed the back button. After a few days I bought the x10I to have 3g on tmobile and it doesn't creak. Maybe its the x10a only?
I love xda app on my Xperia X10i phone =D

Hey, yeh mine creaks too, its more so the side pressure of the hand squeezing the sides when in yur palm, than the force down of the buttons. Im not very satisfied with the elcheapo effect of the back cover, lol. I too was an iphone user, solid rock, but i love my x10a!
Thanks to everyone, I guess it's semi-normal, I wish it wouldnt make any noises because it makes it feel cheap
Creeking here aswell and it is actually the battery making the noice since its probably has got a tiny bit deformed in 8 months of pocket riding it is able to move somewhat in it's compartment. Everything else is solid.
And i have to really stress it to make it creek, nothing really bothering.

^Thats a good point. Last night I was sitting on the couch and couldn't remember where I put my x10 down. I stood up and realized I was sitting on it. Not a big deal considering its a pretty cushy couch but I probably squished the battery together a bit.
I think only white ones make noise my black x10i is very solid

I know 4 people who also have the xperia x10, never heard them complaining about creaking. Never heard it either. We all have the black x10i.
Somebody here said something about a deformed battery, that could be true indeed. Lithium polymer battery's have no plastic case, they can be bend or deformed. It could be the reason your x10 makes creaking noises.
You could buy another back cover from ebay, they're not expensive.

Mine also have a very tiny circular chip in the left lower bezel. I don't think it was a traumatic one as it arrive with it when brand new. I was gonna ask for a replacement phone but fear the new phone might be even worse with the button problems etc.

I tried to get a replacement from Vodafone Australia and they recommended me to get back to the shop to have the phone checked and inspected. I felt it might be hard to get a replacement as the chip was very tiny (barely visible 2mm max and only at some certain angle), so I accepted a $60 credit as a compensation - to get a case to cover the defect! For $60AUD I'm happy to keep the phone which is otherwise perfect. :victory:

Rumor about the hole of the earpiece! Waterproof Rumor!

Browsing other Xperia Z2 forum, a user asked about the water resistance and input headset, since it has no external insulation, as covers. One reviewer said the author of the following topic:
"Check if you don't see a screen light in the hole, there were some not sealed examples problems.. it should be dark when the phone is unlocked. Would help to make sure it is sealed."
This actually makes sense?
I tested mine and when I turn on the device screen I can see light through the hole of the headset!
Has anyone tested to see if it makes sense?
I haven't heard about this, but for the screen gap issue Sony said you could take your phone to a repair center for a water resistance test, I'm sure they would do this for you if you are worried about it.
I see the light of the screen through the jack and I plunged my phone several times in the water, no problem.

As I said though if you are worried about the headphone plug, they should be able to test that for water resistance as well.

Yeap, but the tricky thing is that I bought my device in another country! In my country is not yet released!
Have no guarantee of the device!

I can see the light too, no water has passed so far (at least nothing that effected the phone). Not sure if a straight way to the digitizer does any good.. Like is the digitizer waterproof?
This sounds strange but put the hole to your mouth and such on it like a straw then plug it with your tongue. If the suction stays then your good and waterproof.

I can also see light and phone is waterproof. And its not a hole, its just thin plastic leaking light through itself

I was very relieved! The people have to be careful with things that speak the internet! This sometimes ends up becoming epic proportions and great discomfort to the users of the device!
Actually I noticed that there is a thin plastic near the light!

No no, I have a gap between the speaker and the edge of the screen, and even another gap between the touchscreen and the edge, no problem.
Note that I have not tried to immerse the phone more than 30 cm deep

Would you take a picture?
I do not know if you saw, but it has a huge discussion about the water resistance of the device with those gaps!
If you can take pictures would help a lot! A macro photo of good resolution!

Is your screen slightly raised near the power button?

Is anyone's screen slightly raised up a bit near the volume and power buttons? Like maybe a few mm or less? This is my 2nd replacement, which also has this issue. I'm not sure if I should RMA again if others will end up like this. Is it normal, I would like to hear from others who have the 6P? If it won't fall off over time, I think I can live with it lol

Considering my first unit was like this, I doubt the next one will be much dramatically better. I can live with it, but I am worried that it might get worse over time.
