Editing Status bar layout and changing default dialer app? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

What apps/settings is everyone using to change the layout of the status bar?
Anyone know how to make a 3rd party dailer app default on the stock rom. I have cleared the default for both dialer and phone apps but I only get the default phone app option when trying to initiate a call from a 3rd party dialer.

Try clearing contact default. I think that is where the dialer lays.

Yeah I have cleared the defaults on that those applications, I just never receive an option to select another dialer to dial out when making a call. The only options I get are Phone and my AV app for secure dialing. I have Go Dialer installed but it's not an available option to choose when making the call so I am forced to use the Phone app even if I initiate the call from within the dialpad in Go Dialer. I just get a prompt asking which app to use to dial but Go Dialer isn't an option.

I believe this is a limitation set in TW. Others have used Go Dialer along with the paid version of Not Call Log to get it working.
Not Call Log2
Hope this helps.

Yeah I was afraid TW is just keeping Go Dialer from being a dialer option. Even with Not Call Log2 I can't get around it. It forces you to use their lame horrible looking dialer. No biggie though I will be using CM or PA when it comes out for this phone anyway.

UOT Kitchen might work but I'm betting they are either flashing custom rom or manually modifying SystemUI.

Trying to put a MORPH ZIP together for us. Having a ***** of a time. But remember guys, the aapt file that is used for APKTOOL needs to be update. The SystemUI.apk with decompile just fine, but trying to recompile will throw errors all over the place. Ya need to edit these 2 XMLs located in res/layout
system_bar_notification_panel_title.xml
System_bar_sertings_view.xml
In these XMLs, you see some line that have @Styles........
They need to have a "+" sign added to the front of it. Then the SystemUI.apk will compile. After you recompile your new SystemUI.apk, you have to replace the original XMLs back (original, meaning before you modified tbem) I should have a couple status bar themes out tomorrow. This issue with apktool thru me off for the whole week. A bit unfortunate really. But we'll get there

Manual Dialer Skin Install

Im just curious, but how do you manually install a dialer skin? I have found alot of dialer skins for the mogul that are really cool, but they are not in .Cab format. I'm not exactly sure how to manually install one. Could someone please give me some info. Thanks a ton in advance.

what i do is install the big button dialer for the mogul and then the touch dialer skin cab on to the main memory to skin my phone with the default skin.
From there in the root there is a folder that says Phone Skin.
Now from here I can either photoshop the skin available or replace it with others that I find else where.
So once I install this big button dialer, there shoudl be a folder in the root directory that I can install the other skins?

If you install the big button dialer cab for the mogul. It will replace the dialer skins that are on the phone already but it wont have the Vouge buttons.
If you want to still use the Vogue type of buttons install the Touch skin cab to go with it and once you do this will place a folder in the root : not \Windows, where you can customize, delete and replace for others that you might like. I found out by experimenting and it worked for me.
I will hunt these two skins down, and start experimenting myself.

If you want i can send you the Big Button Dialer CAB, and the Touch Skin CAB that way you can start skinning from here.
Just PM and i'll send it to you or I'll upload it later because I dont have it with me at the moment (School)
Her is the Big Button Dialer cab along with the Touch Skin Cab for those that need it.
Install the Big Button Dialer cab first then the Touch. After your done soft reset your phone. This should work on all TITAN phones. It says mogul but it works on my XV6800.
Skin problems...
Okay, I've installed the Big Button thing, and then the touch skin, but when I restarted, all of the buttons are fine, except for the 1 button, which appears as the native Mogul dialer button for 1, which looks distinctly out of place. Functions fine, just looks ugly, any fix for this?

Erm, sorry, not quite advanced enough to grasp that. Is that a folder\file thing or a registry thing, if it's a registry thing, where do I edit the phone's registry?
Edit: Nevermind, remembered that HKCU is a registry path, the rest is now obvious, just need to find a registry editor.
Edit 2: Found a registry editor, problem now occurs that "Access is denied" when I try and edit that particular registry entry.

Hey can you post some of these?
"Now from here I can either photoshop the skin available or replace it with others that I find else where."
or explain a little bit how to photoshop them? I am familiar with photoshop so I dont need a walk thru, but there are 26 graphic files in the PhoneSkin directory. Which to edit?
Also, I followed these instructions and your downloads, but when I push a button, the whole button turns white. really all I am looking to do is have it turn the matching blue when I press a key (the same blue that's in the dialer window by default)
thanks.

sorry for not being clear on my post. there is a program called tdial designer by tiermann ( search for it) and this will help you creat your own skinable dialer.
this will even fix the issue when you press a button and have receive a white button display. just chose your dialer carefully. i recommend the bluefrog aka new vouge dialer.
the regurlar vouge dialer will impair some functions on your phone. once you create the skin, it will generate the picture files and a cab for you to install.
the reason why i mentioned photoshop is that i add more details onto my dialer skins and modify them more ' to look unique ' or to stand out.
hope this is what you needed.
Oh no need to apologize, your posts are great.
I do have the Tdial Designer v1.1.0
I have the BlueFrog Big Button Dialer installed
I open the Tdial Designer (TDD) and from the Options > Dialer I choose "BlueFrog (or new Touch)". Everything looks great until I click on w=one of the buttons, then the same issue arises, it just whites out the whole key. The options below the "Down:" options are no longer available. If I switch back to Options > Dialer I choose "HTC Vouge (or old Touch)", then the "Down:" options are available. I hope this makes sense.
I did try to save a few that I was testing. Looks like it outputs the files and a cab file. Am I better off just copying the files into the PhoneSkin directory or running the actual cab?
Thanks again for the help

I recommend using the CAB. Because the image files only displays the dialer in standalone more ( not in use ) but the CAB once designed properly will show a customized dialer that includes the smart dialer color customization, and even the buttons when they are pressed.
I will load up a picture of how one of my alien-reanimation themed dialer looks, along with the cab if you want to install it.
thanks for sending that it is very cool. The issue I am having now is that when I install the cab it is not over riding the default one. do I need to uninstall the blue frog dialer? when I install your cab, the default dialer comes up and not yours. I look in the remove applications and what I believe is yours is listed as MyPhoneSkin. I just cant seem to get the new themes, yours or mine to apply to the phone.

No worries. I just need some information from you first.
Do you have a stock ROM on your phone or a Custom one (for example a DCD ROM)
(uninstall all previous custom dialers you have installed; Then )
If you have a DCD ROM then all you would have to do is install my cab or yours and soft reset ( reboot ) and the new dialer should show up now.
If you have a stock ROM you would first have to install the Mogul Big Button Dialer CAB ( dont worry it a universal CAB for all 6800's ) that I will provide -- Soft reset and see if you notice a new dialer ( you might get a dialer with no dial pad, this is normal) from here install your own custom CAB that you have made or mine and soft reset to notice the change.
hey cool deal, OK I got it working. I have dcd 2.3.2 rom. I reinstalled the mogul dialer, then yours and it worked. However, when I push the buttons, the blue highlight comes on, but it is the whole key, I cannot see the number below it. Which I guess isn't an issue cause you cant see it when my finger is pushing it anyway! but I wanna make sure that this is acting properly. thanks again

Change your Default Calendar Version 0.01

I made it as simple as possible to change your prefered Calendar Manager, I use ThumbCal, which seems quite popular here. As downloaded, the script is setup for ThumbCal, but to change it all you have to do is edit the first 2 lines with a text editor.
Run the script and your Softkeys, links, and "Today Plugin" all call up Thumbcal, run again and it switches back to Office (Outlook) Mobile!
Does not support 3rd party software, for SPB Mobile Shell support see this thread.
MortScript is requied, download it here.
I hope you find this useful!
To use:
1. Download and unpack the ZIP file.
2. Edit the first 2 lines in the MSCR file, notepad works fine for this.
set AltCalendarName, "ThumbCal"
set AltCalendarPath, """\Program Files\ThumbApps\ThumbCal\ThumbCal.exe"""
3. Copy to your device, and make a shortcut.
4. Click the shortcut and answer the "Yes or No" question.
5. Repeat step 4 to swap between the two calendar managers!
NOTICE: I have seen this many of times, some softkey mapping software (most likely Spb Mobile Shell, this one does it the worst) hijacks the "calendar" softkey and redirects it to the "exe" instead of the "lnk". In any case this patch will still effect the Calendar Today Plug-in. You can remap your softkey with the mapping utility, how ever Spb Mobile Shell limits what you can select, so an additional one is recommended.
WOW..great thinking..
It has been asked abt Hundred of times to replace the Default Crappy Calender
Any screen shoot???
this is EXACTLY what i was looking for. thank you very much. if it doesn't take too much of your time and you can make one for changing the HTC Home Media Player to S2P instead of MP or HTC Audio Manager.. it would be fantastic.
THANK YOU
Just what I have been waiting for. There was nothing worse than having calendar items on the today screen, then pressing on them and it taking me to the default calendar, which I dont even use anymore. i had taken calendar off my today screen altogether. Now its back!!! thanks a bunch for this one.
Any news to get this feature on SPB mobile shell ?
change it easy guys.
as far as I know,I changed my calendar with the thumbcalc 0.51 simply with SK TOOLS.
There is a button change option. And many other offcours as well. But this is the easy way, without aknoledge of serious programming or programms..

Will be looking into that this week, looks complicated at the moment, but I think it will be possible.
is this not working for anyone else? :/
EDIT: NiteStalker, I checked my file paths, and everything is correct, when I press the .mscr file to toggle calendars, it tells me my default calendar has changed, but when I actually check my calendar "softkey" it has not changed.
Is there another script I could run to acheive the same effect?
UPDATE: I have also tried changing the File paths, and then changing the file location acoordingly with no result. I'm going to try to run it from the root, and see if it works.
UPDATE II: Launch off the root doesnt work, im going to check and see if the original Calendar is in the place referenced in the script for my device. (XV6900)

I run it from \Application Data\Mortscripts, but where its placed doesn't matter. When I run it my 'Softkey', 'Program Menu Link', and 'Today Screen Calendar Plug-in' all work. I'm using ThumbCal 0.51, but it shouldn't matter what app you run.
If the today plug-in works, but your softkey isn't, it's possible you have remapping software changing the default calendar link. If you have a softkey editor ensure it's pointed to the "calendar.lnk" in your start menu.
Also make sure you have 3 quotations (""") in front of and after the {set AltCalendarPath, """\Program Files\ThumbApps\ThumbCal\ThumbCal.exe"""}. If your missing even one, it will malfunction.
If none of this works, I don't know what to say, except that I run it on WM6.1, and my friend runs WM6.0, and it works on those.
I'm stumped, can anyone point me in the right direction?
EDIT: one sec. i posted at the same time as you. im reading.

How about a plot twist, I've never heard of either, and havent used any form of remapping software, should I just remap it to the correct place anyhow?
I may as well give it a shot.

Calendar.lnk is in [\windows\startmenu\programs] usually, it can move around there. Remapping to that would allow you to successfully swap between the apps if needed.

Changing settings inside a rom before a flash??

Hey guys
I was wondering if you guys could point me to the files that contain these settings I want to change these settings before I flash.
In sense 3.5 weather, I want to set the sound to off,
In keyboard the vibrate in text input keyboard to off
In sound the vibrate feed back to off
And I was wondering what file holds these grey keys, and black background in the picture below
I love the rom I'm using, but cant see some stuff well, and would like to revert back to stock white..
Thanks a bunch
When you decompile an apk, there is a file in the Res/values folder called bools.XML. those are the settings.

Hey,
It is possible to do but you need apk decompilers editors and a lot of intense stuff and if you do not know what you are doing you can do some major damage to your phone, yes it is possible but I would not try it unless you have the right tools and programming experience!
I hope I helped if i did please hit the thanks button,

ADD Data Toggle to NOTE 4

If you are wanting to add the DATA TOGGLE to the NOTE 4 - you can use a mod that was originally done for the NOTE 3 - I did a GOOGLE search to do it - and this is the information I came up - originally posted by @jdawgg21#AC at Android Central. The instructions call for SQLite to edit the text - but I am sure there are other solutions you can use - I just don't know enought about this to say exactly what to do - I had nothing to do with this instruction other than posting it here for anyone wanting to try it - @jdawgg21#AC deserves all the credit - if you GOOGLE search Add data toggle to Note 4 you will easily find the same thread I found.
GOOD LUCK! hope this helps - word of advice - when editing - the line you need to edit is WAY TOWARD THE BOTTOM - there are two or three different places that look like they are the one you need to edit - but only one is the right one - the title of that line is exactly as follows: notification_panel_default_active_app_list
so be careful when editing to make sure you are in the right line -
The instructions say NOTE 3 - but I am living proof that it works on Note 4- see attached ( it also worked on my S5)
DISCLAIMER: This is to add the MobileData toggle to your notification panel on the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It might or might not work on the other models. Your phone has to be rooted in order for this to work. I'm not responsible if you screw something up on your device by not following directions.
Here are the steps I used:
1. Download the Sqlite Editor app from the playstore(costs
2.99)https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ware.sqleditor
2. After it's download, it will ask for root permissions, click Grant and it should load the databases.
3. Go to the FILES tab
4. Click on data, then after it opens up, look for data again
5. After that happens, scroll down the list till you find com.android.providers.settings and click on it
6. Click on databases and then click on settings.db
7. After you click on settings.db, then you will see system, click on that and it should open up a long list
8. Look for notification_panel_active_app_list. It will be near to the bottom of the list. You will see notification_panel_default_active_app_list. That is not the correct one. Make sure it says notification_panel_active_app_list.
9. Click and hold it till a sub menu pops up. Click on Edit Record
10. You're going to see a list of toggles under values
11. At the end of that list, make sure there is a ; after the last word. Then enter MobileData and put ; right after it. No spaces.
12. It should look like this for example: AirplaneMode;MobileData;
13. Now click Save, Reboot the phone and when it comes back up, you should have a MobileData toggle in your notification panel in your settings

No spaces.
12. It should look like this for example: AirplaneMode;MobileData;
13. Now click Save, Reboot the phone and when it comes back up, you should have a MobileData toggle in your notification panel in your settings

Have you tried to add "FlashLight or Torch ?
One of those should work too.

No I have not - but I would assume you could potentially do it the same way, couldn't you? As I posted, I merely copied this from someone else - so I really don't know if you can add torch that way or not?
My Wifi Hot Spot toggle quit working after the latest update. Any ideas how to get it back aside from wiping phone and Odin the full firmware?

add ;Toolbox; to the list. Same as the s5 toolbox http://www.androidcentral.com/how-use-and-customize-toolbox-samsung-galaxy-s5
;ToddlerMode; adds network restriction toggle
Code:
Toolbox;
Seems to add an ICON but the toolbox does not seem to come up.

Same here. Not sure how to get this to work.
Also, has anyone gotten the FlashLight / Flashlight / Torch to work?
Flashlight / Torch do not work, but FlashLight works by adding an empty toggle with no icon, and when I click on it, nothing happens.
Any ideas?
Is there a way to add "flashlight" to this as well?
Works, thanks a lot!
