Hi all,
When the N4 was announced I had my GNex up for sale within the hour, sold within two! The more I read about the Nexus 4, the more I am unsure it is actually for me. I do not play games and generally use my phone for browsing the net/forums, google currents, bit of music and social networking (Facebook etc.)
I am now unsure whether I have made the right choice, and whether I should snap-up another Nexus while people are selling them off cheap on the forums ready for the N4 upgrade.
I was hoping for upgrades in the following areas
Build quality... this is one area where I am fairly sure I would be happy! N4 looks great!
Screen quality... again, a fairly significant upgrade to me me as the Gnex screen always looked a little washed out and dull when sat alongside other handsets (One X, S3, S2 etc.)
Battery Life... Was hoping for this but am now unsure. Gnex seemed to heat up quite a lot and was looking forward to getting rid of that. it now seems that the N4 may have the same issues and reports of screen on time in the region of 3 hours do not seem that much of a step up from the Gnex
Processor... Whilst a speed boost would be welcomed, as I only use the phone for some casual browsing and not gaming I am unsure how much difference I will see.
Camera... Again was hoping for a major boost, but seems to be a minor incremental boost at best!
Any thoughts? Anyone else in the same position as me and wondering what to do? Price difference is in the region of £100-120 if I were to purchase like for like accessories etc.

The fact that it's "Nexus" also means you get a standard, Android experience, along with guaranteed quick updates (up until the point where the OS won't run smoothly on the device I guess; which should take a while). Other vendors for the most part offer updates slowly, and choose to make the general UI... non-standard (which usually has more downsides)
yeah... am only comparing the two nexus devices as that is all I would buy... love the specs of the S3 and can be picked up mint for about the same price as a new Nexus 4, but couldn't live without the updates

One thing I wouldn't worry ahbout is battery life,
once the obvious software problems are fixed battery life is going to be good because:
-The battery at 2100mAh is pretty large
-IPS panels are allot more power efficient then Amoled screens, especially if your main use is web browsing
-The S4pro is the most efficient ARM quad-core and is the only one which allows to clock its cores independently
-There will be custom Kernels that allow undervolting and other features that improve battery life
I'm not a gamer either, but that didn't stopped me from getting this I personally think you won't regret getting it, but if you don't like it, you can always just return it and get something else

How much of a difference will custom kernels and ROMs make to the battery life? Roughly? 10% or more?
I know my current Galaxy 3 gives me an improvement of almost 30% with custom firmware, but that's because of removing the samsung bloatware.
I try to get the fastest, most powerful phone or computer out there that's at a reasonable price. By reasonable I mean most power per dollar. The people that say they don't need a super fast phone or computer are usually the ones complaining that Web pages open slow or it keeps freezing and slowing down. The better hardware you get, the longer you will be satisfied with the device. And for this price with this hardware/software? You gotta jump on it. You may not need a phone that could run crysis but if you could get it for the same or cheaper price as a lesser spec'd phone, wouldn't you?

I've said for a couple of years now that if Google could put out a Nexus device that felt like the iPhone 4/4S in the hand, then they'd really be on to something. Yesterday I got 5 hours screen-on time on my S3 (50% brightness, stock rooted ROM, power save turned off, etc.) and I still had 23% battery life left. That's pretty darn good!

The camera is VERY important to me (I use it daily in my job) and the shots I've seen seem to show the camera is a MAJOR upgrade over the GNex. While I didn't find the GNex camera to be awful, it certainly couldn't hold a candle to my S3 camera. If this camera is anywhere near as good as the S3, I'm going to be very pleased.
Any thoughts? Anyone else in the same position as me and wondering what to do? Price difference is in the region of £100-120 if I were to purchase like for like accessories etc.

Engadget has had the most negative response to the battery life of anyone, and they still got 3 minutes longer out of the Nexus 4 than the Galaxy Nexus. Assuming they never fix whatever was causing the poor battery life, you'll see the same as what you get on your Galaxy Nexus.

My phone contract is up for renewal on the 11th January 2013 and wanted to get some opinions from people who used to own the phone I currently own which is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I really can't fault my current Nexus, it is running Rasbean ROM with Franco kernel with very smooth, fast, reliable results.
However, with my free upgrade coming soon I'm a little bit stumped as to what my next move is. I don't want to move away from my current Tariff because it is the only tariff (mobile network) in my area that gives me good coverage around my house, so I'm more than happy to carry on paying monthly instead of going down the PAYG phone with a GiffGaff tariff etc...
I've just watched a video comparing the Nexus with the Nexus 4, yes the Nexus 4 does seem half a second or so quicker at starting apps etc and the screen looks completely different to the Nexus.
- Is there any other differences that you noticed from your upgrade?
- Now you have been using the Nexus 4 for a couple weeks+ would you do the same upgrade again?
- Is the non-removable battery a problem at all when flashing buggy Kernels/ROM's?
- Is the signal coverage roughly the same as the Nexus?
- Can you get the stock Nexus browser on the custom ROM's instead of the slow Chrome browser that came with the Nexus 4?
Any other pointers would be a massive help in me upgrading or not. Either I upgrade and sell the phone on as brand new or I keep the Nexus 4 upgrade and sell my 10 month old Nexus as used.

Why would the non removable battery be a problem with roms? The signal should be equal or better than the Gnex. You can get whatever browser you want on any android phone you want (almost).
The Nexus 4 is a beast. Its fast, fluid and just incredible.
If you're concerned about not getting the phone out of a bootloop you can always press vol up + power to force reboot(afaik).
Install CM10.1 and you will get the stock AOSP browser but theres also an alternative in the themes and apps section.
My signal seems better than with my Xperia S and it was already good, so I would say its the same or even better.
I would definitely upgrade(ok i did ) if I were in your situation.
I just got mine today but I say Yes. It is completely worth it. As for the non removable battery. It shouldn't be a problem as you can always get into fastboot. I don't know about other roms but you get stock android browser on Paranoid Android. The screen is much nicer. Fast processor. Pretty much everything you need unless you want LTE.
I had a galaxy nexus before this. Here's some points in the nexus 4's favor:
-Much much better screen
-Better battery life
-Better camera
-Faster and smoother UI
-Looks and feels like a higher quality device
-Music output significantly better through earphones, and louder through speaker
-Wifi reception is better. Cellular signal slightly better or the same.
Also note:
-Almost all custom ROMs come with the AOSP browser and ditch chrome.
-You can reset the device at any time by pressing and holding the volume and power keys together. There are loads of devices without removable backs and they all use this kind of reset combo. Don't worry about not being able to battery pull.
Cons of the nexus 4 to the galaxy nexus:
-Not as much development happening in the N4 forums as yet compared to the galaxy nex. I'm sure that will shift with time and is only the case due to poor availability of the N4.

Better battery life is subjective. You can get official extended batteries at around 2000 mah whereas n4 is 2100. Not much of a difference and the hsic wake lock is a problem for most people at least until Google panes out a update or flag a custom kernel

its basically the same. its maybe a tiny tiny bit faster in daily use, it doesnt scroll faster or anything but the transitions are nicer. so, first thing you notice is ... nothing. i know i'm getting tortured now but its the truth. its a nice little upgrade, beautiful screen (if you calibrate, otherwise its greatly inferior to your nexus), i love that its wider. in some games you notice slight differences, theres new lightting effects, flares, etc. overall it feels more precious and shiny and you can be sure it will withstand the next 24 months - and thats the thing with nexus, the software is the same, but it lets you enjoy what android has to offer without having to worry about silly stats. the new one is just making sure it stays like that bringing enough punch for tomorrows demands.
I'm coming from the GSM galaxy nexus.
The N4 has a wonderful screen, I like it a lot more than my Galaxy Nexus' screen.
But if you have the 2000 mah OEM battery, you will find the battery life of the N4 on 3G very disappointing. On WiFi they're pretty comparable.

The ROM and Kernel issues don't worry me, as they will get stronger and stronger as time go on, and both my favourite DEV's have got one and are developing ROM/Kernel so that's a bonus.
I was worried about the battery life of the Nexus 4, but by the sounds of it if you are on wifi the battery is not too far from the performance of the Galaxy Nexus.
I'm just slightly nervous about selling my nexus as it has been faultless.

Don't be nervous, it's about a $100 upgrade depending how much you get for your phone. I'd say it's worth it if you are selling ur old device for a good amount. Battery life, I wouldn't worry.
Franco Kernel + ROM of your choice, you shouldnt be disappointed.

Congrats nice to see you have fast stock there. First things first would be to fastboot oem unlock of course (manual method, not toolkit )

I think most of the major shops have plenty Nexus 4's left, its just Google play store that doesn't have any.
Yes, fastboot oem unlock & USB debugging will be carried out quite quickly.

1- Better camera, better materials, looks nicer, better audio quality, better screen, feels solid
2- Yes

4- I can't tell you cause I always get full signal here...
5- I have both on Xylon ROM, but dolphin and chrome are great browsers
Nexus 4 turned up last night so had a couple hours to play round with it now it is all setup with rascarlo ROM and franco kernel.
What have I noticed so far (in order):
1) It's quicker, installing apps from play is very snappy
2) Screen looks different, its like it is raised up compared to the Nexus
3) Boots up v.quick
4) Feels heavier, more solid
5) Camera is better
Quite happy with my new purchase! Just need to see how much I can claw back from ebay on my old Nexus.

My previous phone was a g2 and several times a rom would become unresponsive or if I was testing a nightly rom it came in handy being able to take out the battery to reboot the device

Coming from Gnex.
Using the N4 in everyday life is not a big difference (same software, sometimes a bit faster). Not a milestone ahead.
But - the phone is so solid, good-looking and has a better camera compared to the Gnex.
If it is really worth to change is more emotional than stick to facts.

i am going to get a nexus 4. At the moment i am going with the s3, but i love the look and feel of the nexus 4. But i have some questions i found a lot of differnt storys on the web.
1. whats about the battery? It is really that weak a lot of reviews tell me? Anyone got a s3 before and have a direkt comparison?
2. whats about the "menu" botton, is it possible to get rid of the useles last app softkey and have a menu button there ? maybe with another launcher or rom?
3. if i compare the camera of my friends nexus 4 and my s3, i have to say the nexus is really not the best here.
are there any other problems with the nexus ?

My battery life is awesome. I can run a full day with it with 4+ hours screen time. But I'm also running a custom Rom with a custom kernel. I haven't tried the stock rom and stock kernel yet...Lol once I got the phone I immediately rooted it.
There are a ton of roms out there that give you the option to change your nav bar. You can literally put anything you want...at first when I got the phone, it was bugging me that I didn't have a menu button, but overtime i got used to it and I love not having it anymore! Also, the menu button comes up on every app that needs it. So it's pretty much always there.
Downside is the glass back. I put a case on my phone so I'm not worried. But I heard people get nicks and scratches very easily with the back glass.

1. No, battery is much better compared to the galaxy nexus for example. 4.2.2 has been a good update. Custom kernels might give you that little bit more.
2. Many roms offer that possibility.
3. Again, much better than the galaxy nexus. S3 is better though, agree. By all means though, camera isn't bad or something!
Get a case. This baby is much different to the all plastic s3..
I had GalaxyNexus GSM > International S3 > Nexus 4.
1. I think that battery depends pretty much in your usage, for instance, I always have great battery life in my phones, so I think it's because the way I use it. With the Galaxy Nexus I always got 4+ of screen on time, with the S3 I got at least 5+, now with my N4 I get more than 6 hours (Wifi+3g on all)
2. You can change the navbar to whatever you want.
3.The best camera is the S3's, but N4's is not far from it, GN is the worst, no doubt.
The reason I sold my S3 was because I really like flashing new roms, as I tend to get bored with what I have, and because I had the international version of the S3, customroms didn't worked as good as they should because of the exynos SOC. Also, here in Mexico, the resell value of the S3 is quite high, I sold mine in almost 750 USD, and with that I bought a N4 and a N10

I think i gonna stick with my s3. N4 is for sure a nice phone, but the s3 is too. Just the feeling of the n4 is sooo good .D
I'm running AOKP with Custom Kernel
1. I get around 1 hours screen time for every 20% (5 hours screentime). A bit less if you game or use heavy apps.
2. Current AOKP build 3 allow it to hide on the side. Or you can shorten the height of it as well. (With the navi-bar down, you get approximately the same amount of usable screen estate as the S3)
3. Only downside, the camera is not that great. My old S2 have better image.
Your best bet is try them out.
If you're going to flash and such, N4.
If you're keeping everything stock, S3.
I had the s3 before this, trust me switching to the nexus will be the best move you make. Camera a tiny bit better but nexus camera only just behind. Everything else way better plus the nexus experience is just awesome

Battery Life: I've had the N4 for almost 3 months now and the battery is AWFUL. It is literally the worst battery life I've had over the last 3 phones. I'm running paranoid ROM and stock kernel. Others have grand claims of great battery life which I'm sure is ligitimate but I can't seem to reproduce it no matter how much I try. I'm getting tired of always worrying about whether wifi is off or GPS is off or my phone will be dead by 2PM. Even if I do turn them off when I leave the house, the phone is dead by 4ish sometimes 5 if I try really hard not to use my phone as I do daily. For me, my phone is a tool to get things done so I'm probably a heavy user but still I haven't had battery concerns like this in 2+ years.
Camera: Apply the same as above but for the camera. It's pretty bad. It's SLIGHTLY better than the Gnex. iPhone 4, 4s, 4, and GS3 have better cameras as a comparison.
Other Issues: Some N4's have a horrible data drop issue, including mine. For an example on the same wifi where my iPhone 5 gets 45MB down on average, my N4 get's around 12MB on average although was I able to get it to 20MB once or twice. There are many threads about this so it's definitely not an isolated issue but at this point I have no recourse so I'm stuck with it. At some point I'll flash a different radio once one comes out which has been confirmed to fix data drop issues.
Anyhow like any device YMMV and you might get an N4 with not issues but I like many others I know were not so lucky even though there are many here who were.
FWIW the N4 is definitely a COOL device and definitely cooler than the S3 IMO but for me reliability heavily outweighs the cool factor.
1. Battery on this device isn't the best for the size. GS3 has definitely better battery life, but with even a heavy usage, I go through a day, which is enough for me since I charge my phone every night.
2. Custom ROM can change the nav bar but it never bothered me. IMO, I like how stock nav bar is designed. I never liked the menu button for some reason. Recent button is definitely more useful than menu IMO
3. Camera isn't that great, not going to lie. But it is really usable and capable of producing beautiful images and videos. Is it better than GS3? NOPE. But I don't mind the camera.

What are the common issues you really faced, I did read some blogs with common issues but i believe here the people who really have experiance with the device can give me more accurate info.
I am aiming for the D802 model non carrier branded open europe region.
Also i will not flash any roms and kernels and mods to it.
My 4x HD fits perfectly to my needs but it has some issues with it like bad build quality some plastic parts around the sides of the device are coming off. It has overheating issues. Its power button keeps dirt and its not responsive. So does the G2 come with such issues ?
I have it 10 days now, and wish I didn't bought it actually.

Next thing that irritate me is when you're in browser it doesn't react well when you scrolling, you need do realase fingers two times for every scroll. Tried in various browser on both JB and KK, and it is same

Next, sound is really crap, you can forgot to speak via speakerfon, and music is terribly bad produced via speakers
Camera, it sucks at low light

I'm really happy with mine, coming form an HTC One, the only thing i missed is the stereo audio
The rest, is superior in G2, battery life is spectacular, awesome camera, wonderful screen!

Happy as hell after recently using s4, note2, htc one(built quality and audio was awesome) and Htc butterfly.
Doesnt looks cheaper than Galaxy series.

I'm really happy with mine, coming form an HTC One, the only thing i missed is the stereo audio

never tried iphones, never liked them, so can't say if that's true or not

You have to beleive me. If I have to read something on a sunny day with a G2, need to cover screen to be readable. Never done this with an i5
I have to keep brightness at almost 100% at all the time, never needed to keep it so high on any phone till now.
I don't have that much trouble. I use lux, so I automatically get the best brightness for legibility.

I'm really happy with my G2. Coming from a Galaxy S4, the battery life is stellar, the stock-based roms are awesome and I must say I don't regret the "stock" CM/AOSP experience with this phone.
For camera, stock is just OK but with the available mods it becomes very good. Granted, it's not the best one can find but it's definitely great for a point-and-shoot use.
Screen wise, I've never been much bothered with the sun so far. My experience is same or better than with the SGS4.
Performance overall is very good and I hardly find any activity where I'm dissatisfied with it. Often the lags and stutters are more caused by the app as I had experienced the same with my S4.
Buttons placement is actually good when you need to adjust during a call. Otherwise it may not be the most intuitive but you get just used to it and it becomes natural.
Knock on feature is awesome. Can't wait for knock code (d801 here...)
Call quality is very good, no complains on that front.
Speaker quality, well for Skyping it's good and loud enough, and I don't understand people listening to music through their phone speakers anyway. When it's in public I want to slap them and in private you gotta have crappy hears to listen to music on ANY phone that way anyway. When you buy a high-end, high-dollars phone you get a dock or BT speakers.
I certainly don't regret the switch!

Ouch i am impressed how large the community of the G2 it is!
I missed ot ask something... Since the 4X is the 3rd LG device i used i had an 2x long time ago also used optimus G it wasnt mine
And i noticed that on software side there are some issues. On the stock 4.1.2 of the 4x it takes up to +/- 5secs. to open dialer app then a lot of lag
After using it for about week or two it becomes almost unuseable. And the features LG merged on the 4.1.2 to prevent 4x from cathing fire were the most stupid thing they could do... 10 mins of internet or smth that uses more CPU... and brightness drop to 70% then more 10 mins and drops to 50% and you are not able to brighten it up till gets cool again....
Came from iphone 4s and am extremely happy I made the switch. I'm definitely in love with this phone. The screen size is perfect for me and the display is very nice. I also enjoy the really slim bezels and I like the back buttons( hope I'm not the only one lol).
Also enjoy flashing custom ROMs

I'm quite happy with my experience with the LG G2 thus far. I agree that sunlight legibility is not the best, but it is still not that bad. I hardly use my phone outside anyway. The only thing I don't really like is the glossy enclosure. I wish LG used the soft rubber that it used for the Nexus 5.
Oh, and it helps that the development for our phone is active. I get just the experience I want with all the ROMs, kernels and Xposed modules available out there.

I have 6GB pictures from my ex i5, putted Navigon, and almost no space left. I had lots of Android phones till now, but this G2 is worst ever. For the first time I was unable to keep NAND backup on the phone, few ROMs, and pictures, navigation,... you name it.
It looks very cheap too.

Not sure if this fits the forum but I don't know where else to post this question.
I like my G2 for the big screen on a compact size but it is getting old. Battery isn't what it use to be although it still has great battery life. I'm getting a bit of lag and sometimes stuff won't work for some reason... alarm failed on me a couple of times and I can't replicate the issue, not sure if it was user error but I suspect it wasn't. It's an AT&T G2 running Android 5.0.2
So was thinking that maybe it was time for a new one but here comes my problem... all the good phones I get recommended are huuuuge!! The G2 is very slightly over my size limit already, making it usable with a single hand but sometimes I already have a tough time using it that way, I'll have to move it on my hand a different way to reach something on the very edge of the screen. New phones like the G4 also seem to have worst battery life, having bigger screens with higher resolutions but the same MAH capacity.
I've just seen there are newer Android versions for this phone, including Marshmallow via CyanogenMod. So, is there a phone with similar size, screen and battery life as the G2 or should I try to hang on to it a bit longer? Or just forget about this and get a newer one and get used to it? Maybe a Nexus 6p, seems like a good battery life phone and going pure Android would be nice after spending this much time with a US carrier phone that isn't supported here in Portugal...

S6 got exactly same size(even more slim) with G2 with better cpu, camera, design and screen. However, battery probably won't be as good.

Yes, I thought about that one. Would mean a different sort of use because I know that the battery life is pretty bad comparing it to the G2 but I believe it has fast charge, so....

To be honest, all octa-core cpu isn't battery friendly as SD800/SD801 and Exynos 7420 is already better than SD810/808 and MTK x10 in terms of battery life. S7 got 450mAh more battery but according to leaked info it also a bit bigger than S6 in size.

Had to Google Exynos as I think my tech stuff knowledge stopped at around the Galaxy S1 or S2. Bought a new PC on xmas and had to ask for a straight out recommendation on the store, like "So, from all of these PCs, which one is the best?" (suprise, suprise, the answer was the more expensive one... )
I don't know... I think I'll try flashing something like CyanogenMod and try dragging it a bit more. Maybe what I'm looking for on a phone is now buried in some midtier lineup, I don't know. I bought this one from a friend in an emergency after drowning my HTC OneX in the ocean and I still love it. Liked HTC's Sense a lot more than this LG UI but bigger screen on a similar size phone and tons more of battery life trumps it all.
Uhm, now that I wrote that, "biggest battery life android phone" is a good place for me to start googling. I really don't care about a ton of features or ultra quick cpus if you end up needing to have it always plugged to the wall.
Check out gsmarena they have a good battery checker page for most phones.
The G2 compares well to a lot of the newer more expensive phones.

Thanks for that, knew the site but never had seen that tool! Very helpful! Galaxy S6 Active is always mentioned as one of the best ones but it came up with a Xiaomi Redmi 3 also, which I never heard about and assume it's some Chinese brand. 4200mah battery if specs are to be trusted and a quad-core 616, which should save on juice as TheEndHK was saying.
Right, at least now I have some pointers from where to look around. Thanks guys!

Regular single sim model of S6 got CM12.1 on xda board, not sure about S6 Active though. Redmi3 is only 720P screen and I've just played around with SD615 last week on other phone, the speed is real low compared to SD800 or 7420. SD615/616 is just a slightly faster clocked of SD410. There is no real alternative other than S6 as of now.

Well, the S6 is not an option for me, battery life is way too short and I find myself away from a wall plug too often to be comfortable with such a device. But that sort of answers my question... Yes, the G2 is still very relevant, at least until flagship phones start coming out in normal person's sizes
I'll just flash CyanogenMod13 when a stable version becomes available and see what else comes out. I find it hard to believe that it will take long before one company figures out that it's all very well to come up with big, impressive screen flagship phone but a lot of people don't want to cart around a phablet. Something to compete directly with the one hand handling of an Iphone 6s (or whatever the smaller and latest iphone name is).
You better start flashing as we already have a few MM ROMs for our G2
CM13,AICP,Bliss,Crdroid, ResurrectionRemix all are IMO daily drivers.

I saw the Bliss one and seemed like stable enough. CM13 is still a Nightly release, so I'm a bit scared to try that one yet. I'm not all that into highly customized or customizable roms, I prefer reliability and the closest to stock and simplicity. Oh, and solid support and OTA supports would be nice... any ROM in particular I should look into, giving these preferences? (...long time since I flashed a phone, I glanced through the development threads and it was pretty much gibberish to me )
Well CM13 is the base for them all and if you only flash builds from 2 or 3 days before( flash the 20160207 for example) you have the most recent without being on the edge.
I like AICP(I like customising my ROM)and CM13 as well.
I find it fairly easy to flash different ROMs so hop between them

Battery life isn't such worst in my case. I've got S6 and Z5c dual flagships now (considering to sell out either one indeed), their battery is just identical. The real problem on S6 got poor memory management and during heavy multi-tasking the apps at background will keep reloading to waste extra battery, light to medium user like me should be fine. The battery and memory management been fixed on 6.01 and international model of 920F/925F just started to roll out Marshmallow today in Poland.
However, if your G2 is in good condition and still satisfied with the camera and don't care about Marshmallow. I don't see much points to leave G2.

I hear Marshmallow should greatly improve battery life on any phone, so I do care about that. I think the problems you mentioned for the S6 also happen to certain extent on the G2, I know I used to have battery for significantly longer when I had it on Jelly Bean. But could also be the case of a fresher battery or a lighter usage, I do use it more nowadays.
Camera was always pretty bad IMO. Hardware might be good but the how it encodes the picture just messes everything in most situations. I would like it to do a better job but it's not something that will determine me letting go of a phone. I would never own an Iphone unless I went full Apple but I'm yet to see an Android doing a better job with pictures than an Iphone. And it's not the lens, I'm pretty sure it's the IOS...
But yes, I think I'll stick with this G2 for a little longer. Somethings are starting to give in but maybe I can drag it enough until I come across a phone that gives me some confidence. Besides, I really got used to those buttons on the back Thought they were nonsense the first day I used it but now I would hate to go back to Samsung or HTC way of doing things!
Credit to LG - I also have the G2 and have given up finding a replacement for it. Will wait till it dies then find something less satisfactory. Samsung are bloated and have major battery issues so I wouldn't buy one.

I ended up getting an S7 and I'm very pleased with it. UI has been greatly de-bloated, battery life is great. The other phone I considered at the time I bought it was the just released Huawei P9. Got a P9 Lite for my father the other day and, after playing with it, even the Lite is a fantastic phone.
LG hasn't been great... the G2 was a beast at the time but every other one was a big fail. G4 had a manufacturing problem on the motherboard that affected something like 90% of the phones and most would die within 6 months. Took them forever to admit and fix the problem,

I went from G2 to G3.
When the screen went bad on the G3, I got a warranty replacement and sold that.
Now I have an Octa Core version Note 4 and another G2 as a backup.
The Note 4 Octa core is a huge upgrade from the G2 and is coming down price wise vs. newer Samsung's yet delivers similar performance removable battery and Micro SD card.
I'd look at that or the new One Plus 3T which is also good too

I would also seriously consider that one too if I was in the market for a new phone. Sounds a bit like Apple with their "S" versions, they seem to have improved and fixed the negatives on that one.
G2 works really well and smooth for me except I have an occasional reboot out of nowhere. IDK what's causing it, it's stock rooted ROM.
If you're looking for a new phone recommendation you have to take price into consideration cause otherwise just go with Galaxy S7 (5.1 inch).

That's odd, never happened with mine... maybe a factory reset if it starts to bother you that much, at least you would be able to tell if it's software or hardware related.
I did end up getting an S7 but it was pretty much out of frustration, other phones all had some small thing that was a no-no for me (mainly battery life). Touchwiz is miles away from what it used to be, I don't like a pure Android feel and it ends up being just about the right amount of UI skin. Huawei P9 is a really nice one for a lot less money and I bet the next P10 (if they call it that) will be on par with Samsung from a normal user point of view.
