Anyone figure out how to change the color of the Dialer and contact app? Sprint got pure white background and I know the AMOLED gobble power when its so bright white, I want to get a darker grey or pure black if possible.
I'm in the same boat, I prefer the black dialer/contact list like on the S3.
Me 3 on this someone please figure something out

I have a feeling this is going to be a popluar request. I have been scouring the settings trying to figure out if there is a way to change it. Now that I'm rooted maybe I can figure out where the images for it are.
I am having the same "problem", although all the above comments do not mention that with the White background, you cannot see the name of the last callers. It is WHITE text and WHITE background, which is absolutely annoying.
I have this on my S4 by T-mobile aswell, not sure if i'm doing anything wrong, both Sprint L720 and the T-mobile S4 are on stock 4.4.2 Rooted, both have a white dialer and contact list, weird.
This is a major problem for me, and i'd like to kindly ask for a fix, there are S4 devices with Black dialer, can anyone help extract the black dialer and somehow import it into the Sprint S4 device??
Thanks!
In the S4 Themes and Apps board here there's a post called Blacked out Dialer/digit color options.
Pretty sure that's what I use, it's been awhile. I don't use phone stuff like call recording or stuff like that so I can't comment if it's even part of it. Looks like it may not work on nae roms by the comments. I'm on mf9 bootloader, mk2 modem, triforce rom and flashed with twrp. It also blacks out the contacts background. So make a backup and try if your on mk2. Hope it's some help to someone.

Hi,
I've installed Nova Launcher and it pretty much does the job converting the phone's look to KitKat on the Stock LG 4.2.2 ROM.
The only things Nova Launcher doesn't replace are the Notification Bar and the System Dialogs (like the Dialog that does Power Off). System Dialogs are an ugly white and grey, and they look surprisingly similar to Samsung's ugly ass UI, at least early versions of it.
So, does anyone know how to make the System Dialogs look more like KitKat, or at least, turn them dark from white?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I've used the Xpload framework and it really messed over my battery life, I'd like to do this using root if possible.

Decompile the framework invert all the toast images and a bunch more then find the XML that controls the text color you want and walla.. All done.
PS.. Odds are when you do this your going to inadvertently cause white on white or black on black. Best of luck

Not sure about the last statement in the PS, white and black are easily distinguishable colors #FFFFFF vs #000000...
Anyway, is there any root level app that does this type of asset replacement?
Thanks!

No what I ment was sometimes there tied to something else. Like you change the text for the toast popups to white, and in settings the text is also white. So, in settings its white on white. Just an example, and I don't think there is an app however I'd imagine there could be. Xposed or something. Toss in a request on the g2 xposed threads.

Ah yes, I see what you're saying. Luckily though, I think this won't be the case because LG literally uses white on black and there's absolutely no dark backgrounds I could find in their UI whatsoever. The dialer is a dark grey, but I don't need to change the dialer, just system dialogs.
I am going down this road now, I am ripping apart the assets in the backend trying to find the key files to tweak and replace. Fun, I love this.
Is there a way, on my Samsung S4 Stock ROM 4.3, to change, under settings, the colour for the background from white on black to black on white?
Thank you
Saulo
Using Settings > Accessiility > Negative Colors would in theorysolve my problem...but then this new settings applies to everywhere, to each screen, NOT ONLY to settings...this makes making pictures and movies horrible (pics have reversed colors)...
Any idea?
I have vision issues, so having a black blackground and white characters causes me not to clearly see...
Thanks for any suggestions
I would easily switch to a cooked ROM which has the background colour for settings inverted...By the way, it seems that HTC, iPhone and most major provider choose black characters on white background.. Why then Samsung has choose the oppostite?

Probably because of the s4 screen type... Its amoled, so when it shows black, it actually has the pixel off, thus saving power.

You can blame samsung all you want but in actuality its the carrier you bought the device from, AT&T uses white background setting in most of their roms while Rogers uses Black.
Don't like the background colour, switch to a custom rom/different carriers rom and get white settings.
You can easily find out what colour the settings menus are in various roms by looking at screen shots of the rom prior to installing it.
Thank you so much for your info...
Unfortunately I use a S4: it is UNLOCKED, but it is i9502 (dual SIM), and there is ONLY one cooked ROM available (from SVA, ROM 5.5). Which is excellent by the way.
It has black background.
I am very happy about the ROM. I would not want to change to another cooked ROM. And even if I want, there it NO alternative English ROM to support dual SIM i9502 Samsung S4.
Is there a way that a NON-Tech-sawy like me can accomplish the change of background from black to white or clear? Yes, I cannot do programming, but I am able to fully implement rooting procedures and I know basic Unix commands and terminal operations..
thanks
Saulo
HI all,
So I'm at a loss and hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Installed Alliance ROM onto my Verizon Note 3. So far I'm quite impressed with the ability to customize so many aspects of the interface. But my noob status working with android is causing me to get confused. I'm encountering a UI element that is used in popup menus that currently is displaying white text on a light grey background (as seen in the attached images) Could someone show me where to find the adjustment to change that UI element is?
Also I was a fan of the ability to swipe and launch the camera on the Stock ROM, but I was able to set my preferred app on stock. Don't see anything listed under Default Applications, also when I look at the stock camera's App Info, the Clear defaults button is greyed out. I'm unable to choose which app I want to launch since installing this ROM. I found a workaround by setting Shortcuts to Custom and selecting my app that way, but I liked the Stock ROM's grey button as opposed to using the apps actual icon.
Thanks for any help you can send my way,
Josh
Anyone have any ideas about the grey background. I'd appreciate any help, thanks

In AllianceRom Custom Settings under Colors, go to Background -> System and you can change the background of most system apps/menus, it is a universal change but you can enable/disable apps effected in the Whitelist menu.
Thanks for the idea! I'm trying but still can't seem to get that gray background to change. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

You could try wiping cache/davlik in SS, or try flashing a theme like All Backs Black. Other than that the only other thing I can think of is wiping/flashing the rom and starting over but that seems like overkill.
From what I know, I asked the same question in the ROM thread and the answer was this is a bug they are gonna have fixed in Build 2.
Thank you so much guys for the ideas and info. I was going crazy trying different combos of settings to get it to change. I'll look into trying a theme. I was already flirting with the idea of having to try doing a full reinstallation. But if its a known bug I can deal with it, the benefits of using this ROM so outweigh the annoyance of the grey menus. Thanks again!
I'm sorry if this has been ask before..
I do work with the note 3 and was hoping that maybe I might be able to help with the T mobile Note 4.
Can someone please verify that the international variant of the note 4 has either a white contacts (dialer), phone (in call ui), mms or a dark version?
Thank you for any help.
It has a white theme.

A lot of work.. I was gonna try to invert them, but then I found that not only has samsung gone with their way of qmgs, but they also decided to screw everyone over with some type of file called astc that can't be decompiled
I found a workaround, but it's really up to you on how you use it, but...
You can set your home button to invert the colours with a triple tap. The setting is in accessibility. This is really handy when browsing the web, but not so much with "in and out" app use. I'm almost certain you can get tasker to invert apps using this method for specific apps you need inverted, and then return to normal when you exit those apps.
I'm one of those lucky people who gets chronic migraines. The primary trigger for me is bright light... especially looking at bright, white screens with black text. Consequently, I've spent quite a bit of time trying to invert screen color... which is fine unless you are looking at pictures or video.
I know that I can change my Note 4 settings to invert the colors, but that simply isn't practical. I've been able to get some of the modifications I need by swapping out applications. For instance, I use Chomp SMS and have found a great plug-in for firefox that inverts the color without inverting the images. I've also been able to make some system mods through Xposed using Wanam's module. But these are only bandaids. I'm really looking for something that will work system-wide, for light text and dark background.
My phone is a Sprint Galaxy Note 4 running Lollipop 5.1.1. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would upgrading to Marshmallow help? Or how about changing out the ROM?
If nothing that would work systemwide, does anyone have a suggestion for an email app that will invert the text color? The stock Samsung email app is really tough for me.
Any help will be much appreciated.
