Okay, so i work in a mobile store in the uk, and we have 2 different stock..
One for Orange
and One for T-Mobile/EE
I've bought the orange S4, and i've noticed that when i have NFC on, i dont have the NFC logo in the status bar, but, when i looked at the T-Mobile/EE one, it did have the NFC in the corner..
How do i tell if i have stock/carrier firmware?
There was no splash or carrier branded software etc, the only identifier was the Sticker on the box..
it sounds like you have an unlocked, unbranded variant, like the ones that CPW and P4U sell.
any way i can check? that'd be awesome!
how come some have the nfc logo?
What is the baseband version.
I have just installed the UK stock rom and tested what you said. On my EE branded phone the N appeared when switching on NFC, on this stock it doesnt.

It seems like a rush job. They didnt have enough time to even install their software onto some handsets and others just had a basic version...
Having a branded handset doesn't always mean its locked to a network. Vodafone have branded software on android devices but they are unlocked and free to use on any network I was just lucky enough to get my phone as part of the first batch must not have had the time to put the Vodafone software on it.

I actually don't think there is a way to test it unless your phone is rooted in which there is an app that can check it. However if you go onto the 02 website they will send you an 02 PAYG sim for free then you could test it. £1 shops usually sell sim cards too.

Am new here and wanted to know how i can tell what version HD2 I have?
Where do I go to find that out?
T9193
T8585
All I know is that I bought it yesterday (4/3/10) at Fry's Electronics.
Is it true that ONLY the T9193 version can access AT&T 3G speed and not the T8585?
You mostly likely bought the US Tmo Version which is neither of the ones you stated. I found this quote by KKBII a member here.
"Of note, the official name for this device when connected the the wm device center is simply T-Mobile LEO. Without the actual box my hands are somewhat tied here but underneath the battery and in settings- About the number is T-MOBILE T5160."
So T5160 is your model number.

Nope, don't see this number listed anywhere in the software nor official apps/documentation.
You're the only person even pushing this number, and you haven't made Google yet.

Look under the battery cover above the IMEI number. It will appear on the black portion of the label in tiny print. If you see PB81110, then you have the T9193. If you see PB81100 then you have the T8585. The numbers also appear on the bootloader screen.

Yes he/she said that is the number. Read it again, and the other threads:
"So T5160 is your model number."
As said, it's been all hand-waving and no information with citation as to what this model number is besides TMOUS 1024Leo, or PB81120.

But with the info above , the wcdma band does not include 1900 which is used for At&t 3g, also no the 850 which AT&T uses in some areas, the wcdma, is what you need to get 3g not the first gsm freqs.
The other thing is , if you have a 1024 Flash, then it is a TMOUS ...
So in summary with the model ID of PB81120, you will not get AT&T 3G ..

Hello everyone, I'm really interested in buying an HTC HD2 and I found this T-Mobile Germany model, but there's something about it that I can't really understand:
-- a regular HD2 has the back camera centered:
-- here's how this T-Mobile Germany HD2 looks like:
-- here's the front of the same one:
Can someone help me out with this? Is that HD2 genuine? Is it an OK HD2? Flashable? I'm really fascinated by this phone's abilities and I really want to try different ROM's on it. Thanks!
that's almost certainly a tmous, not a regular , what memory information does it show? what does it say in bootloader? (power off, press and hold voldown, tap and release power,,, bootloader is the coloured stripey screen)
edit - oh wait, ive never heard any mention of either having an off center camera, , could it be a chinese fake? what processor and system data do the system info screens display?
edit 2 - yea, just checked, the tmous has a centred camera too, its a fake. Also, the earphone socket should be in teh bottom, not at the top.
Thanks for the reply. I don‘t have the phone, those pictures are from the advert. But I was interested in getting it, the seller sais it‘s a new(as in unused) T-Mobile Germany HD2. I‘m really curious if anyone else knows anything about this.
IMO, that is a fake, there's no such HD2 looking like that...
But if you insist to get some good shape US hd2, PM me, maybe I can help you!

There's no such thing as a t mobile Germany HD2, ,,(well there is, but its just a regular HD2 with a t mobile branded rom installed,, it doesn't have coloured keys, but white keys like all the others, its no different than the o 2Germany, or voda UK, or orange France. )
Only, ,,ONLY, ,,t mobile USA has a different model HD2, yours is a fake, and chances are it won't be flashable with HD2 tools anyway.
Thank you very much for the replies!
Digging a little bit more on the internet I am now 100% it's fake. Check this out:

Also a video of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okREiJlBXMs
Thinking that I was just about to buy it... :silly:
bib*oops - I think I'm gonna contact you on PM for more details.
that micgadget article has it the wrong way around, several times it refers to the fake as the t mobile one.
Interesting box.

Cool, a few DVDs. Almost makes up for the three week delay in releasing the phone.
An hour and a half later I get to turn it on (SE Satio goes out of its way to make managing sim contacts difficult) and low and behold:
Vodafone apps! No wonder the release was delayed. There are also a number of apps that I haven't seen anyone mention, and Guitar Hero Demo, The Sims and other trials. Is this more VF bloatware? I'm going to have to read up on how to get rid of all this stuff.
I'd post more screenshots but I can't connect it to the PC now like I did earlier. It says media scanning and completes it and that's it, nothing happens! I'm in W7. Problems already ಠ_ಠ
Big Box is for all the bloatware .
jje
My 3 Branded GS2 also has Sims 3 on it...
Hey, you think those DVDs and all that bloatware was free?
Vodafone: £25 per month x 24, phone cost £299 = £899
O2: £10.50 per month x 24 + £3, phone cost £150 = £405
That junk cost you £494 or more depending on the contract.
Ouch, mine in the same box has no Vodafone software installed on it, yet we both got ours via the online upgrade system.
Does yours have any Pirates stuff on the phone, ringtones, wallpaper, trailers?

Not that I can see. Kind of worried that it's not connecting to the PC. Even earlier on when it did connect, it was just the default file browser and no software installed (like my girlfriend's Desire did).
Another gripe, since I save a lot of friends under their nickname, they didn't sync with FB automatically and trying to manually join the contacts between accounts was awkward as it doesn't let you browse FB contacts, the FB contact must be in "Suggested Contacts" when you click join. That means I have to rename them to their full name, add on FB, change back to their nickname. This sounds strange, maybe I'm missing a trick.
I'm very happy though, don't get me wrong! The phone is amazing, I can't wait to fully utilise it. What a piece of kit.
edit: oh yeah, about an hour ago in the city centre the best lock GPS could get was 60m, usually 100m though. woeful!

24 x 30, it really isn't free is it. Your soul has been taken for 2 years for £720 sterling
I had to laugh at that. That's annoying about the stock apps. I presume you'll be rooting and freezing or removing? Vodafone is one of the worst offenders...
Nothing is free but at least I'm not having to pay up front as well. The cheapest I have seen the phone PAYG is £399 and that offer has ended. So thats only £13.37 a month for all those mins, text and web. All the whining a side. On average the phone costs about £480. So that makes it £10 a month for calls etc....That is a sweet deal.

Upgrade over the phone? And do you have a standard account, or is it a business one?
Should be a few left in stock, as a mate managed to swap his Sensation for the S II yesterday.
The note edge just dropped one verizon i know and i have already went in and played with a live demo. Phone isnt bad but isnt spectacular over my note 4. My question is now with the developer edition edge can the developers take advantage of root/recovery to really make the panel come to life??
here is link showing it is coming soon. also depends on price for me if it is cheaper then $799 i may pick one up
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-N915VMKEVZW
Might have to cancel my order at work for the regular note edge.
Or just buy it and sell if development takes off....
Argh decisions.
I think I'll buy one then just return it if Dev edition shows up quick enough.

No. The Dev Edition is meant for Developers and as such comes unlocked.
But having it wont provide clues as to how to gain root/bootloader access on a retail version.
Basically, if you want root/bootloader access, then you can either wait for the community to figure out how to crack it, else you can buy this version which is already unlocked.

Samsung's website only
me too!
I have also been checking the link, 3 times daily. I bought the retail version of the note edge and fell absolutely in love with the phone, but at the same time i could never own a phone that i cannot root. almost took the galaxy S4 back before i stumbled upon safestrap and hyperdrive. unfortunately i learned the hard way what taking OTA updates can do to your device, so i can no longer go back to the S4 when you could use CWM. I don't understand what Verizon's deal is, all the other note edges (except Verizon and AT&T) have already got root using CF auto root in Odin, but Verizon must think we are going to steal a trade secret or something and locks the bootloaders.... silly Verizon. i swear if another carrier would pop up in my area offering the same 4g speeds and an unlimited data package i'd switch in a heartbeat.
oops, sorry i rambled... subscribed to this thread, and checking the site thrice daily (more often on the days i don't work ^_^)

I've seen those they aren't the developer edition though. Those are non carrier specific models you can use with any carrier by swapping the Sim card. The developer edition is just the normal Verizon phone but with unlocked bootloaders so you could flash cwm or twrp without bricking the device

I'm not sure if it's this simple, but has anyone tried changing the CSC? I would love to having working Samsung Pay in the states. It's the only thing holding me back up from getting one now.
Seems like there are methods for the S7 and S8 that allows you to select the CSC from a menu or automatically set the CSC to the country your SIM is from.

As mentioned in my message reply, the Samsung pay app on my N935S asks for a South Korean simcard and won't work with my T-Mobile sim.
I wonder if a friendly South Korean member could buy low value pre paid SIM cards and offer them to members in the UK and USA and we can use these to adjust some settings to allow use of a local SIM to work with Samsung Pay?

Great idea
I was thinking of that idea last night but I was not sure if it would work at all.
Anyone have any idea?
Thank you
MTWIZARD
Just did some research. Its very difficult to buy pre paid SIMs in Korea. But fingers crossed someone may a solution.

It wouldn't matter even if you could get a Korean SIM. Korean phones will not accept US bank cards. I did some research on here and there are others with Korean Samsung devices that couldn't get Samsung Pay to work. I'm bummed because I just received my FE about 10 minutes ago and will be sending it back because of that...unless I can use my Gear S3 instead.

If you have a gear s3, you should be able to use samsung pay. I have a Note FE (N935S) and a gear s2 and though samsung pay doesnt work with the Note, I have no problem using samsung pay on my gear s2. Should work with s3 as well.
Has anyone tried factory resetting their phone while having their SIM card inserted? I've some people saying on other Samsung phones that factory resetting with your SIM inserted will change the CSC to the country the SIM is from. This might only be for specific models of a phone series. Once the CSC is changed, I think you can install the Samsung Pay from the country you're from and be fine.

i also tried this approach, it didn't work. tried setting up android pay and it thinks my device is rooted; disappointed, but not a deal breaker.

Android Pay works fine in the UK on my KT branded FE.
Hello.
Could you upload screen capture that has error message?
I can communicate in Korean.
So I will contact Samsung customer service center in Korean with that capture.

still no luck, i even flashed the N935S OEM ROM to my N935K and Android Pay isn't working. next step (if i decide to follow that path) is a full reset.

Sammobile; used firmware link at top of web page and searched for SM-N935S. Download mode shows System Status: Official and Warranty Void 0 (0x0000).

T-Mobile:
* SIM Locked to T-Mobile
* Cannot set "Allow OEM Unlock" until SIM unlocked
* Need a token from OnePlus to OEM unlock every time
* Single SIM slot
* T-Mobile boot screen
* All updates need to be approved by T-Mobile
OEM Direct:
* SIM unlocked
* Can OEM unlock without a token
* Dual SIM slots
* OnePlus boot screen
* All updates come as OnePlus releases them, no approval from anyone else needed

I went with directly from OnePlus because of that. I did not want delayed updates. I also did not want to have to get T-Mobile's and OnePlus' permission to unlock the bootloader. If they did not put those limits on them, then I would have just gone with the T-Mobile one.

For the retail price then yes. I got the t-mobile variant because of the $300 launch discount. Since the t-mobile variant now can flash OOS from 1+ and can be converted to dual sim without much effort, it's a good option when t-mobile offers a discount.

Yes, I know it can be converted to the unlocked version, but still requires SIM unlock and getting the token to boot loader unlock. Which would require you to pay the full price to T-Mobile anyways. The launch discount is meaningless when you think about those two things. I do know that it is possible to get the SIM unlock and not have to pay the full price up front, but that all depends on the customer rep you get. Also, you trade being dependent on T-Mobile to update to being dependent on people on XDA to create the fastboot flash-able from the update. There is also the possibility that OnePlus might change it so that you cannot get the unlocked version of OOS on your phone. Even though it is unlikely that OnePlus would do such a thing it is still possible. Because of all that the unlocked version is a better choice.
The dual SIM part is useless to me, but how can you convert a phone with only one SIM slot to dual SIM? That would require a hardware change.

Not really. I am one of the success stories that asked T-Mo on Twitter nicely after having the phone only 8 days to Perm unlock me without the phone being payed off. On Int'l ROM 9.0.7 now, AND have a $12/month credit to my bill.

Yes, like I said. All depends on the rep you get. I have heard stories where the person gets the unlock, and I have heard stories where the person does not. I just stick with the unlock so I do not have to worry or hack around for updates, which is what converting over to the non-T-Mobile OOS ROM truly is. OnePlus never meant for it to happen that way, but on the other hand did nothing to prevent it.

T-Mobile version is dual sim, just comes with a single sim tray. Cut the original one up, or buy a replacement one and both slots work just fine.

Mainstream US phone market is huge and to get to it, most manufacturers have to go through the carriers. Just glad t-mobile is carrying OnePlus because unlock request is easy enough if you try. People love discounts on phones and don't seem to care about bill credits.

I thought the TMobile one still had the same IMEI on both slots even when flashed, so it would only use one SIM at a time, so both would work, but with that limitation.

Interesting. I was reading that there is only one IEMI number for both slots. I have not tried this because I do not need it.

T-Mobile is amazing in that aspect, but it also depends on the rep involved. I also think the account the phone was activated on might have a play in it too. Like an account just created probably would not get it, but an account that is 5+ or even 10+ years old would get it quick.

Wrong. Both sims from the same carrier work fine. Unless you have tested it, don't make the assumption from thin air.

It was a simple question. Several people in the Tmobile to International thread posted up pictures showing the same IMEI for both SIMs. So you saying this is not true?
This page for example.
Or this post for example.

Have you seen anything from tmo, att or vzw that they won't register the same IMEI with different SIM cards on their networks? I did my own testing here:
