Just a thought guys, if this isnt already out there which i cant seem to find.
Could anyone make a app that turns the flash light to on so it can
be used as a light?
Seen it done on other phones would just be a nice feature.
We need root for this.
Wait for root to go public, then this will probably follow (I doubt you need write access to /system for it).

Personally I doubt it will be feasible. Too many symbian phones we messed around with for years trying to make it happen, unsuccessfully (in some way or another). Would've been excellent if it was accomplished though. Even just a method to blink the flash on a press would be excellent.

With root it's possible for the Nexus so why not for the Desire. But we still have to wait for the Root acces. Damn waiting takes so long!
This function is built into the Quick Settings app you can get for free in the market isn't it?

Its currently not supported. Just tried it.
Yeah, that option just enables a bright white screen for now.

well it seems to be possible without root access, while I can active the flashlight led with a
echo 125 > /sys/devices/platform/flashlight.0/leds/flashlight/brightness
If I have time, I will make a little widget that will do it

That would be awesome if it's possible, it's pretty much the only feature that I think is missing from the Desire as far as I'm concerned.
Ok I made some tests, it will not be a problem to develop a simple application (would be better than a widget ?) with a variable light power
Great news!
I think, that an application would be enough, since it isn't an often used feature (But VERY usefull when needed )
Looking forward to this!
File in attachment, this is just a "trash code" program, just for you to let me know if this is what you where looking for!
Feedback are welcome
Thanks for the work guys much appreciated.
App works fine
Don't want to sound picky and that, but basically what i was after was the flashlight to use as a light, so just a on / off would be fine! if could make the on as bright as the flash ?
Just wondering, im guessing a lot of this is done in shell script and c?
Just learning C at the moment , doing a forensic computer degree at uni.
Yay! It works On isnt as bright. Would prefer an on/off toggle only. Either a full screen button or starting the actual app will toggle it.
NICE !!! work fine. but ON is not as bright as Flash is ... do something with it, please...
really good, thank you for your work
Yeah cool, it is working great.
The light isn't that bright but it is a good start.
You just need to make it look nicer, add a widget and it is ready for the Market.
Also, I think there is a conflict with the Camera, I tried to take a clip with the light ON but it switched OFF as soon as I opened the camera app.
Possibly the most useful app out there... if only on was full power!!
Nice one though!!
Thx man.. App to use everyday/night ;P.. Do you think it can be little stronger without not burn the led?

Hi HTC Desire users.
I develop a little and basic application that allows you to use your HTC Desire as a flashlight, using your LED Camera. This application is call "FlashApp" and is available on the Android Market (http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-damunix-android-flashapp-CDiD.aspx)
There is 2 mode :
- "flash": for a short time, but full power light.
- "on" : for a longer timer, but less power light.
It only works on the HTC Desire for the moment. I made some tests on the Nexus One, and My application will note work without rooting it.
If you have any questions, suggestions, idea, post it on this thread.
Note : this is the official thread of the app, the old one was : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667474
hey, thanks for the app! great use for it! It made it to the center of homescreens.
Can you make a on/off flash mode? So that it will last while on and will stop on closing/or pressing of?
Thanks
Great work, thanks. can you create a nice icon for it?

@ Damunix
Great app - I was following the other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6374683#post6374683 and did a write up which should be on the front page later today... fyi it links to the original thread.
Thanks , but please add icon .
Great job Damunix!
At least someone gets it. Saves people having to read every thread which asked for such an app unsuccessfully as well as some rather vapid, churlish and irascible troll posts.

Good work fella. Thanks
Great work mate, I'm glad you got it up as an official app. I don't actually have a Desire yet but it should be arriving on Wednesday and this was the only missing feature that I felt a bit let down about. Now it's there and I can't wait to receive my Desire and download it. Thanks for your work.
Very useful app for getting my gas & electric meter readings! TYVM
Awesome! thanks
I cooked your app posted in the previous thread into my rom and changed the icon. Maybe you like it, looks good on a Amoled screen, its attached
Did you change something with your app when you started this thread?
Regards!
Excellent app! It's only a little thing, but makes life so much easier when trying to find the right key!
Just a little update,
new : Application icon, thanks to Pr0sper
this is because a lot of people ask for an icon as soon as possible
wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! works on my Desire ( Orange UK ) fab!!.. Infact I'm still seeing the light every time I close my eyes!!!!!!!!!.... Note: don't look direct at the light .. well done!"
I don't understand why, but in the last version it seems that there is a sign problem of the application.
Sorry about it, you need to uninstall and re-install it
works great! thnx!
I installed on my T Mob Desire - app works almost.
Light stays on - flash only flashes briefly. Can't get full brightness permanently on.
Is this the idea?
Yup, you can only have the full brightness (flash) on for a short time. There are some worries that leaving it on full brightness permanently could damage the LED.
I think the normal, lower brightness setting to be adequate in most situations.

I have struggled with horrible battery life. I tried everything from roms, radios, setcpu, registry tweaks, all builds on this site and still couldnt pull much more out of my battery.
I ran across an app yesterday while digging through some articles looking for a battery miracle and found an app on the market called tasker. It is an automated tasking app that allows you to set different variations for anything you could imagine on your phone.
I have only scratched the surface with what it can do. The link below has a simple GPS setup to get started.
It enables you to turn on a certain function (WIFI, GPS, Bluetooth) when you open an app and then allows you to close it once the app closes. No more forgetting to use the power control widget!
Hopefully this thread can evolve with suggestions and other setups to help save more battery!
Today I was able to get 13 heavy usage hours out of my phone. Before this I was in the neighborhood of 8-10 depending on usage.
Any suggestions or new scenarios appreciated.
Hope this helps!

Does Tasker support turning on/off 3G? I.E. could I set it to turn off 3G ad drop to EDGE when the screen is off, thus saving battery?
yeah.. it works awesome.. so many settings to config up.. endless combinations lol..
good stuff dude!
3g
Fmstrat
Yes, you can set it to turn off everything when you turn the sreen off.
To do this go into tasker
Add new
Click Event
Click Display
Click Display off
Click Done
Click Plus sign in bottom left corner
Tap Net
Tap Mobile Data with the gear beside it
So the same thing but in reverse for Display on!
Along with this you can set a time profile to check turn on data every X minutes to grab your emails
New Time
00:00 to 23:59
repeat every x mins
add task mobile data on
It dues shut off APN completely however, I dont think there is a way, yet, to just shut off 3g. If anyone know a way please add it.
Hope this Help!
Looking for help with a profile
Need some help from the community.
I am trying to set up a profile that will work as follows:
Screen off > Kill all tasks using ATK
If I choose it as an app it loads the app but doesn't kill anything. This would be a great battery saver.
Anyone?
This looks like an excellent app.
Just a quick question (I've only ever installed free apps from the market )
If I pay for this app and validate/register it online using a Desire based android build, but then subsequently load a different build (maybe a nexus based one) will the app still install and work correctly?
Or will the app be seen as being transferred to another phone and refuse to work?
Thanks for any advice
Guys,
Please don't post warez or links to warez (see XDA rules).
Thanks

Hello,
i have two questions, may some of you knows an answer ...(Phone G900F/root/Omega v3.0)
Both are about the popups that will be shown using the fast Buttons, like 'Wifi'/"Bluetooth"/"GPS"/"Offline" etc.
(hope my low level english will be excused)
If i use the button for "GPS" always the 'Google'-question appears ... does not matter if i have chosen just only GPS or locating with WiFi.
Does someone know how to turn off that confirmation question?
The other interaction that i really do not like is ... turning on the offline mode ... turning off the offline mode ...,
i always have to confirm that i really want that ... does someone know any solution to turn that questions off?
thank you very much for reading
thank you very much for answering if you knew a solution
best regards
The confirmation popup is rather annoying actually.
If you leave your location settings on high accuracy, it drains battery. If you leave it to power saver, GPS chip is disabled. If you turn it off, Google Now doesn't work. Seriously, which potato farmer programmed this?
I consider this to be one of the worst changes implemented. Previous Samsung phones such as the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3 had an actual "GPS" toggle in the drop down menu instead of this poorly crafted "location" toggle.
Sometimes I slightly regret switching from Note 3 to S5. Just a slight bit.
Oh well, the G3 is on the horizon

Use xposed framework plus the Modul disable Google network location consent. For the second thing maybe Wanam xposed module got an option for it.

Well, Hi!
I agree to your first statement even if i can follow the idea behind the programming, if i take the position of 'go.ogle' but even the main idea for the user is not that bad, it would have been a great choice to let the user chose which combination they want, like a single GPS-toggle. Or the combination. I was just lucky with that GPS-toggle option on my S3.
Like it is, it is a worst change. Agreed!
Some guys should get in contact with ROM cooking experts if there could be some coding solution.
Until yet i can't post in the developer section. So i have to stay calm.
Thank you for your point of view, so knowing i am not alone ...

Hi, My friend has the Note 7 Global Lavender version, like me, he is 82 years old and is having some trouble with answering calls because of the not-so-easy to use green phone slider. Even I sometimes have problem with this one.
So can someone help me with an alternative and a small guide on how to install it(if not like other Apps) and set it as default, so when call comes in that is the one he see? There is no need to change anything else.
Please don't refer me to google, the problem is not that there aren't any Apps but that there are too many of them, and I can't try them all until i find one without a slider but where you just push the green button to answer call - He is starting to regret he bought this phone, as it is not so friendly for old people.
I hope someone here can help.

Thank you, and yes it looks like what I wanted though it is a very sophisticated app with a lot more functions than I wanted, maybe too much - it is still for an elderly man. Also looks like there have been some complaints that you get more spam calls after you use Truecaller and that they upload your data to their servers for everyone to see - not for me!
I like to hear other options if there are some Preferebly close to the stock dialer, but without slide and only push or an option to set it yourself. And not one that takes advantage of people.
Thank you

You could try google dialer apk from apkmirror.com, it has a simple slide gesture to answer and end calls and isn't too bloated with useless features

Thank you for your answer, I will look at it but would prefer to avoid slide since that is the problem. The Note 7 has slide, but its not easy to use not even for me and I have had many phones with "slide dialer".
Finding "push button" dialer has proven to be some of a challenge, also when you take in mind it should be one not stealing your data
Hope someone can come up with a solution for this
Guess not, but i found this one and it might do the trick, testing next week when my friend available: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.luckyme.dadapp2
Update: forget the app above - it works just after install but doesn't do anything when pushing the Answer button. After that it never pop up anymore . Uninstalled it!
If you can root the device and install google dialer framework , you can set the google phone app which has better slider : you just need to slide up, holding the phone icon isn't necessary. And custom roms can also be easier for him as compared to miui.
anyways, i wonder if you could find a feature in miui that makes the incoming calls screen always in 'heads up' mode. That way he just needs to touch the accept or reject. I m not sure if miui provides that

I'm sorry and tank you for your input, but I'm not rooting his phone to solve this - too many things can go wrong because you have to unlock bootloader and then install TWRP first before you can root - or so the guide here on XDA states.
I hope for a different solution
