ota 2 for WE is.
does anyone know where the update-packeg is stored after being downloaded via ota. i would like to prevent it to update automatically with the next restart. or do i have the possibiliy to abort the process on startup?
thanks for any help.
maybe try to search for the name of the zip file ?
- ThinkPadTablet_A310_02_0039_0086_UK.zip
- ThinkPadTablet_A310_02_0039_0086_WE.zip
not sure they are stored with the same name...
found it.
it is named update.zip (how obvious) and is in /cache.
Updated with temporary unroot and OTA Rootkeeper to .......086_WE
So the rootkeeper works on my tablet.
Its out in Denmark aswell.
OTA rootkeeper worked with my tablet as well, thanks for the advice (especially to temporary unroot before backup). No idea if this is really necessary, but it worked after the new installation of super user (german version)
Hey guys,
I'm hoping this should be a relatively simple question for you to answer. I rooted my Nexus 7 using Wug's Toolkit (on 4.1.1) quite some time ago and received an OTA notification just the other day for 4.1.2. Without thinking, I allowed it to download and let it reboot to install. That was when it booted into Clockwork and there was a signature verification fail. It gave me the option to disable it, but remembering now that I was rooted, I cancelled the update as I figured an OTA wasn't the most sensible thing to do without checking first. My device rebooted fine and is still running 4.1.1 with full root.
After doing some research, I see now that if I use an app like OTA Runkeeper, I can safely run the OTA (or just run it, lose root and then root again).
The problem is that the OTA won't come up anymore. I've tried manually checking for updates a few times but it thinks my device is up to date. What would you suggest I do?
Is there somewhere I can manually download the update and install via Clockwork etc?
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

I saw that, but it was posted back in July, and seemed smaller than the original OTA.
Nevermind... I didn't see the October update to the post further down.
Cheers!
So i am relatively new to android and still have a few questions if anyone could help out...
I have rooted my s4 using cf auto root with out any issues other than i couldn't check the f.reset time box (not sure if that's unusual or not) so i then paid for and downloaded triangle away to reset the counter, now i'm rooted and back to official status, using nova launcher pro and able to receive OTA updates.
Currently haven't received the new update where i am yet (Australia) , the update which allows apps to be moved to sd and fixes a few other issues. Obviously i would like to get this update, I have paid for and downloaded mobile odin, i assume that when the new update is available i can download on my pc and transfer and install the file from my phone using mobile odin without restoring to stock? And once the update is installed i will need to root again?
I guess my main questions are, with the cf auto root am i able to install custom roms, am i able to update without losing the root, are their any available updates from other regions i can use without issues currently, i see a lot of talk about kernels and i am really lost when it comes to that as i haven't needed to change anything dramatic, it's all been pretty automatic, just want to make sure i'm not missing some important steps.
Thanks to anyone that bothers to reply.
First thing it sounds you have an I9505 so to be clear next time you better specify which you have mate
Second after rooting you wont have any official updates since phone is still rooted, instead download a rom and flash in CWM so of you dont have this recovery you have many options I recommend Philz....
3) you can get any firmware you like... as it goes for languages the guys already patch the roms well moat of them so that all languages are available so basicly any will do....
4) when flashing a firmware with MobileOdin you dont need to root again it has an option enabled by default saying to inject SU binary after each flash to be cool you wont have to REroot again

Yeah, soz, it's a I9505, so even after getting it back to official by using triangle away i can't get OTA updates? Cos before i used triangle away i checked for updates and it said "modified firmware, not able to update", now it's back to "you have the latest firmware available". Even If i was able to do OTA updates when available Would that cause issues, meaning i'm better off just doing a manual update now via mobile odin? Is the custom rom necessary for anything i'm trying to do, cos i'm pretty happy with just having it rooted and nova launcher. I haven't found anything i can't do that i want to be able to do yet. Thanks for replying.

I wouldn't wait for OTA updates as it will take a while, download the latest version which is I9505XXUBMGA from here and flash via Odin using a computer and your phone status will still be Official

Thanks man. My current build number is XXUAMDE , does that make a difference? Had a look but couldn't see exactly where i am meant to download it from on that page?
Not sure what the rule on posting links on here are but is this the right file?.. Country is listed as nordic tho... http://www.hotfile.com/dl/234701514/2b929a4/I9505XXUBMGA_I9505OXXBMG3_NEE.zip.html
You download this version file and if some apps you need isn't installed, download this file and place them in system/apps with the correct permission
You'll need to flash via Odin and instructions is in this thread and your phone status will still be Official even with root included

It's not a custom ROM, it's stock ROM which has root included with bloatware apps removed but still gives you Official phone status

Alright, so i have downloaded and installed the 1.1gig update, i then backed up from a backup i made before updating, i then went and installed the programs that didn't auto install from the backup and a few of the ones that were removed in this update, I don't need to install those apps from the 337mb file you linked if i don't want to do i? Thanks.

Also, i am just trying to download a few apps from the play store to my internal storage as usual and i am now getting "unable to install to usb mass storage device" also, apps keep going upside down no matter how i hold the phone. Plus it seems to be lagging...

It's not a update, it's a custom stock ROM, did you flash via Odin following the instructions in this thread?
You don't have to install the Deleted Apps file if all the apps you need is already installed

It shouldn't have problems that you listed above, did you flash the custom stock ROM correctly?

I just installed cwm recovery (don't really know what i'm doing at this stage lol) cos i was having issues with bad wifi even with a good signal, and couple of force closes plus the issues i identified earlier and did "fix permissions" from cwm recovery, quick speed test or 10 and it is faster than normal, seems to be as smooth as it was before, haven't tested any games yet either for the rotation issue....
I've frozen Updater_4.1.2 in Titanium. I've also renamed BlurUpdater.apk and BlurUpdater.odex in System using root manager.
If I click on about phone, check for updates, it still checks for them. In the old version it would just flash something up and go back to the About Phone screen since the updater was disabled.
Any ideas?

BlurUpdater is actually for updating the phone, not checking the update. I removed all blur-related services so mine won't check for update.
Try messing around with "ro.build.version.full" or other version strings in build.prop if you don't want to do that.
Can someone please clarify what's needed to be done to block the OTA update from automatically downloading/installing? Do we need to rename BlurUpdater and then freeze all Blur services? Or do we need to freeze Updater 4.1.2 as well? Both user's that replied seemed to do a couple different things, so I am wondering what actually will work? Thanks!
I am, unfortunately, running on MF3 firmware still and have my phone rooted and "customized" (ie I have Titanium backup blocking a few files). I'd like to be able to take the OTA update so I can update my firmware which is still pretty outdated (Android 4.2.2).
What do I need to do in order to be able to take the OTA update and what is the best way to proceed? Will the most recent FW version allow me to obtain root permissions or do I need to do something "fancy" like use survival mode in SuperUserSU?
Let me know the best way to proceed when you get the chance. Thanks!

If you have modified or deleted any system files the ota will not work. The latest version, nl1, is rootable with towelroot. If the ota doesn't work then I'd flash the nb1 tar file in Odin, see the general forum, and then ota from there.

I'm sure I have at least frozen some of those files using titanium backup . . . What's the best way to handle it? Do a backup of my TB settings, unfreeze everything, then try to get the OTA update? I haven't even been prompted for an OTA in months and I'm assuming it's because I currently have root and have frozen some of those files . . . Do I need to remove root in order to get the OTA prompt or is it likely a result of me freezing files?
Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure why you haven't gotten the prompt but it's not because of root. Try unfreezing the apps. Make a backup first

If you try to OTA with root, it will get to about 30% and then fail because the update checks for root if it's anything like the at&t update. I suggest unrooting and going back to 100% stock before trying any OTA updates.
I have posted a guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/general/how-to-restore-device-status-to-t2832880
I know it's for the GS3, but should also work on the GS4.
You guys are awesome. Sounds like this is plenty of information to get started. Thanks for your help!
