guys check this video out, perfectly shows you what phone sounds better, honestly towards the end of the video i was amazed, im happy i got this phone better screen and speakers. =D

The placement of the speakers makes a lot of difference. IPhone has it at the bottom and SG4 on the back.
I keep my ringer volume at 50% , otherwise it is too loud.

The HTC One is the Rolls Royce of the phones in my country,it's the most expensive one at +900$ while sgs4 and iphone5 are as low as 650$
I have been using my friend's S4 the last couple of days comparing to the One in many areas, and in terms of speaker quality, there is absolutely no comparison, the HTC One kicks the pants off the S4.

Overall I like the screen on the One a little better. Outdoors it's almost impossible to see the S4. Indoors though, the S4 screen is really nice but I give the slight nod to One for more natural colors.
One area the S4 wins is touchscreen sensitivity. The sensitivity on the S4 when using the screen is beyond impressive. It's like the screen is alive. Quite a bit better than One IMO.

The S4 has a lot of potential, sadly Sammy released it with an unfinished firmware so right now it's got quite a bit of lag (I am testing the octa core version). GPU wise it's a beast. Get's about 29,000 on Antutu with stock kernel.

So today I stopped by phones 4 u on the high street and had a look at the Nexus. I love the design but my God it is big. There's a pic attached to show you the size comparison. The screen is so much better than the XL but its a bit disappointing that it still has a 5MP camera when the XL has an 8MP Camera.
I've fallen for it and will hopefully have mine in my hands tomorrow Will submit a system dump asap. But still gotta figure out how to root it :?

Exactly....look at a picture taken with a very old Nikkon D40 and compare it with any size MP point and shoot, it's not even close in quality. This is like everyone complaining about the lack of an exynos processor, doesn't seem to have any lag in any video or review I have seen. Specs are fine to use, just need to keep them in perspective and use them appropriately.

Thank God someone else knows what I'm saying. The lack of understanding is just amazing to me. People should really do research before talking. As far as I know about the processor, that the processor its using can typically be way overclocked. Plus now that we have full hardware acceleration, things will run very very well.

TI omap 4460 is a 1.5ghz processor that is underclocked for the GN, hence it can be clocked to that for sure and probably up to 1.8 or so. They designed ICS to be optimized for TI Omap processors. Now, I am less impressed with the gpu that comes with it, it is definitely the lowest powered of the top mobile chips. This is a beast of a phone and I hope we see some news on an HSPA version in the US.

LOL. Yeah, it is big. I just visited that site vonapets url'd and compared all my current phones (N1, SGS, Nexus S, Galaxy S II, Thunderbolt, Droid Charge) to the Galaxy Nexus: http://www.phone-size.com/?s=12,13,65,7,85,3 , and it's not much larger, and actually ~25% thinner, than the largest of my phones (the Charge) which fits easily in my slacks and jeans front pockets. Someone wearing painted on jeans might have issues I guess.
The Charge and SGS II are just a little too large for my hands to use comfortably one-handed. My thumb can't reach the bottom left of the phone without putting it in a precarious balanced position. The big 4.3" screens are great, though. I'm afraid the new Nexus might cross that threshold of being to big to be practical for me, but I'll still probably get one. LOL

This attitude. Now that everyone has read a few articles on sensor technology it seems EVERYONE feels the need to school people on cameras.
Yes, it's true, MP doesn't have that much to do with it. But the Galaxy Nexus camera is piss poor. It produces results almost identical to the NS camera, which i feel was essentially the same as the N1 before it. Look how far mobile cameras have come in the HTC titan and the iPhone 4S. For a flagship phone in this price range, this is simply unacceptable. For Samsung, even moreso as the shooter in the GS2 is much better. No wonder people make the 5MP 8MP comparison.
People need to stop being apologetic towards companies, and start calling them out on their mistakes. The processor in the Galaxy Nexus is acceptable, but the GPU is really not up to par with today's superphones. The plastic case construction is an improvement over the fisher-price NS, but still cheap garbage compared to the designs of HTC and Apple, yet they charge the same price.
Enough. Stop trying to school people and school the companies instead. It's the only way we'll get better products.
Now that the Galaxy S4 has finally been unveiled are any of you planning to upgrade to it? It's definitely an upgrade from the S3, but not as much as I hoped it would be. Don't get me wrong, the screen is gorgeous and it obviously has more horsepower, but side by side next to an S3 you'd be hard pressed to know they're different phones by a quick glance.
My upgrade just came up and I was waiting on this phone but now I think I'm considering the Note II again due to the development it already has and it's (more than) stellar battery life. If the price drops soon due to the S4 release then I will most likely go pick it up. I was also thinking of waiting for the Note III but my patience is wearing thin...

The HTC One is amazing looking but has some serious drawbacks with no removable battery and no expandable storage. Also when the screen is on you will notice it actually has some pretty noticable black borders on the right and left side of the display making it look a lot smaller than it should... kind of an annoyance on an otherwise beautiful display

Note Deuce FTMFW!!! On a side note, if the N2 is too big for some folks, I would get a S3 because its unlocked, plenty of development, and the S4 is not that huge of a upgrade imo...not to mention the S3 can be had for a reasonable price. I prefer the N2 because I have huge hands, amazing battery life, and 2gb of ram.

This is the way I'm leaning (GN2) because I have pretty big hands too so the size can be dealt with, but it might take a while to get used to that monster in my pocket (Fascinate is just so easy to pull out quick to check the time, etc).
The price really needs to drop before I pick it up though, $300 is just too much so if the GS4 releases with a $200 price point and the GN2 doesn't drop in price for whatever reason I will probably end up just getting the GS4. I know it's not a huge upgrade from the GS3 as you say, but the screen is noticeably bigger, brighter, and clearer to me plus it has a bigger battery. Those small upgrades alone are enough to sway me if the price isn't more than $200 (I could care less about all the gimmicky touchwiz stuff they showed off yesterday).
edit: scratch that, it's only $150 on amazon wireless so that pretty much changes things. I'm going to have to go and play with it a bit at the store and then make my decision.

For me personally I really want a bigger screen (at least 5") because I watch a lot of video on my phone (sometimes gaming too) and as nice as the Fascinate is, it's just not big enough (again, this is just me). The fact that we have the latest android is amazing and all our developers are top notch, but still I can feel the phone struggling sometimes, especially during multitasking, so it'll be nice to have a newer phone that has a bit more horsepower to run the latest and greatest. I also want a better camera, NFC, and improved call quality, which no matter what I do to the Fascinate I won't ever get those either. I also want to gift this phone to a friend of mine who doesn't really have the money to own a nice smartphone, so it'll make me feel good to give her an awesome phone that will still get updates to hold her over for some years.

don't forget the spen and multiwindow are very nice features on the n2 that the s4 wont have. don't get me wrong the s4 will be a solid device, but I would go with whatever you can get a better deal on. At this point the hardware is far more capable than the software on the latest devices.
bbrad, I absolutely cringe at the thought of trying to run key lime pie on the fascinate. If you ever used a device with 2gb of ram for a week you would never go back trust me. I go weeks on end without rebooting and my n2 keeps on flying. Its time to upgrade bro. The fascinate was a great device in its day, but now its just a piece of history imo. not to mention the iphone now has the same size screen lol...that there would make me run like hell!!

People cringed at 4.2 on the fascinate remember when everyone said it would be horrible and laggy? Look at us now I haven't rebooted my fascinate for a week still no lag I've used many big ram devices like the n4 let's put it this way my phone on AOKP is faster than most of these newer devices on stock lol and I can't upgrade anyway I'm 14 and I. Can't exactly start a new contract due to I won't be able to pay for it so I would have to outright buy a phone and I don't have the money to do that

Hi, I sold my Note 2 for a HTC One. I always thought the speaker on the Note was very impressive.
BUT the HTC is WOW. Much louder and the sound quality is superb. Sounds to have a little bit of base too.
This is how all phones should be built.

No I needed a change from Samsung. I do miss the large screen and all the Smart features. I've managed to find some apps that sort that issue out though
So far I am happy with the battery life. It did a full day yesterday. I`m still unlocking the screen every 5 minutes though just to look at it
If the battery life becomes an issue I`ll install Juice Defender.
Yesterday I had 81% left by 1pm and I had it off charge at 7am.
Hope that helps.
I came from the Samsung Note II as well. With the Note II rooted and on custom rom. I say the performance of sound on the Note II was louder and probably slightly better than the HTC One. I was on Perseus kernel with Noozide on the Note II. I felt the bass pumping on the Note II, whereas the One did not. Also I feel the HTC one just isn't loud with the two speakers.
I haven't found any tweaks to get the volume louder on the HTC one yet... Hopefully someone can pull off a hack to get higher db.

did that kernel add to the speakers? When I had my note 2 the speakers were horribly tinny and quiet. Not as bad as the nexus 4's though.

Hi, I sold my Note 2 for a HTC One. I always thought the speaker on the Note was very impressive.
BUT the HTC is WOW. Much louder and the sound quality is superb. Sounds to have a little bit of base too.
This is how all phones should be built.

I respectfully disagree. The Note 2 rear speaker is damn loud, and I think from a decibel standpoint its about the same, quality though, the HTC wins out. My wife has a Note 2, I have a One and an S4 and I can honestly as after all the rave reviews of the HTC's "loud speaker" I was disappointed. It sounds wonderful yes, but its not "turn it down halfway because its so loud" like some of the professional reviewers say.
Im sure mine was loud when i first got it. Seems to me the new firmware reduced the volume.

I had a Note 2 on Sprint and then On AT&T. I left my Note 2 to get the One and I'm thoroughly impressed. Honestly, even though my Note's were rooted with custom kernels, they just weren't as sharp in the sound department. They were loud, but had a very tinny sound at high volume. The front facing speakers on the One really do the commercials justice. They are far clearer, and sound better than ANY other phone I've had.

Coming from a Note 2 and working with co-workers with a Note 2 I find this very hard to believe. I also tried this kernel and almost didn't hear any difference...before the note speaker sounded very tinny and afterwards it sounded a little less tinny. According to Samsung the speaker was not broken and within production tolerance. The lousy (quality and volume) speaker was one of the reasons to switch to a One and I didn't regret it one minute..
had the note 2 previously. The note 2 does sound loud when its turned over on its face but mine was rarely on its face, still sounded pretty loud though.
The One sounds very loud and because the speakers are on the face its loud all the time, The quality is also far far far better than the note. It wont replace a portable speaker though, understandably there isn't much bass(more than the note though).
I am an avid fan of the Samsung S series of phones. I've had a few and to date think the S3 is the best they've done so far (S4 notwithstanding). But, I love the Google Nexus series of phones and have owned one, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I purchased the Nexus 4 on Saturday from Google and I cannot wait to get it. I love the bareness of the Nexus line. I love Android in its stock form. Thing is, I'm going from one of the best selling phones to a midlevel device. Am I making a mistake doing this? What am I loosing? Currently, we do have LTE in our area but it's sucking the heck out of my battery on the S3 so I'm not concerned if the N4 has no LTE. Am I gaining anything from going to the N4? Is the camera good enough? What about the sound on it - it sucked moose butt on the SGN!
I'm hoping for some comments and opinions that will help me in evaluating this latest purchase and what to expect. Thanks guys:good:
Mid-level? You do realize a quad core chip and 2gb of ram make this a high-level device as for lte I personally don't use it and camera is better then the galaxy nexus but isn't the best obviously for the price speakers do fine as well

Wait until the 15th this month, there is a revised Nexus 4 to be released that should support full LTE, 32 GB of storage and maybe other upgrades. For the current one i`am very happy with it, the camera is a bit less than in the S3, but the cpu and gpu are much better. The screen is fantastic, bright, crisp and a good vieuwing angles. For me it is an upgrade compared to the S3 or even the S4 (wich i`am gona skip for sure). The N4 has no bloatware and great development. And for a very good price.
BTW the N4 is not mid level
Crap...I shoulda waited. I forgot about the LTE version coming out! Oh wells...it's already paid for. Has LG stepped it up on the Nexus line? I've never been a fan of them but in my opinion, Google wouldn't brand their phone if it wasn't any good. As good as the S3 is, it feels slow opening stuff sometimes even with a fresh factory refresh. It's got some good internals so it makes no sense why it does this...this always bugged me. It wasn't a deal breaker as the camera on this phone is sick! Great picture quality on it.

The internal storage of the Galaxy S4 is 16GB and 7GB is for the OS and lots and lots of gimmicks/bloatware/crap. 9GB available for the user We on the N4 have about 13GB left.
I don't think branding the N4 as a mid level device is correct or at least in my opinion. Perhaps it's the price tag that makes it "mid level" or whatever the reason is, the Nexus 4 is more of a high end device for cheap.
I bought a brand new GS3 from a friend a few weeks ago and I don't like it anymore. It was a good idea I didn't get it last year when it came out. I'm gonna sell it...

Yeah, the N4 is a high-end phone for a mid-range price. Absolute bargain.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Its odd the “mid range" stigma that's put on the N4 by average consumer, even here at xda. I've seen hundreds of post from various forums or sites in the comments with people calling it that and ironically they are Galaxy users who usually say things like this poster also did about the UI being sluggish while confidently calling the S a high end device lol. OP glad you got the N4, you'll be more than satisfied I believe, you'll read a bunch of complaints on here, but like absolutely any other phone available if you read enough threads on here people will have funky devices or just nit picky problems. UI is awesome, storage is pretty sufficient, OS barely uses any space, I have probably 1000 pics, 30 albums and maybe 50 apps including CSR Racing which is large and have about 4.5gigs free. Lacking LTE maybe an issue for some, but honestly I think it becomes a feature option issue for most, the inability to claim LTE rights amongst other phone users lol, I'm on T-Mobile and live in Philadelphia, my data is always fast, in most real world scenarios as fast as my boys DNA, and as fast as my brother in laws S3 on AT&T. Camera is another issue for some, not for others, look on the pic from n4 thread, when you work at it, the phone is capable of taking some amazing shots, on the fly pull your phone out and snap can be hit or miss but why some people expect or even need their phone to be art gallery worthy pics I don't know lol. Speaker, is well a speaker, I can hear when I need to, but all this talk of the HTC having "boom" sound and dual speakers for what? If I wanna host a mini rave with my phone? Lol I just don't see the real world use for it. Summing it up, everyone that has touched my N4 since I got it, users of iPhone, S phones and even my cousin who still won't let BlackBerry die has loved this phone after spending as little as 10 minutes with it. Feels great in the hand, UI is always snappy, screen is crisp.

Great replies everyone...thank you. I've read a lot of reviews and such and most of them calls the N4 a midrange phone. In my opinion, they do it based on the price and public (uninformed) preception. I used the same phrase here based on these although loving stock android like I do, I'd be calling it high end. The Camera for me is a nice addition because working as a tech for UPS, I travel around some and get to see the sights along the way. In doing so, it's nice to have a quality camera onhand to take some pictures of where I've been. I don't always take a "camera" as I travel light so having a quality one with me is very handy, which is why I ask what the quality is on the N4. I've read a lot on XDA and seen some pics and it is hit and miss from what I see but a definate upgrage from the SGN.
I've read a lot about the back breaking/cracking. I'm thinking it's a good idea to get a sheild for the back at least. I've never been a fan of putting one on the front as I like the smooth feeling while sliding/swyping.

I'd agree with putting on a back glass protector. If anything the Nexus is a more high-end phone than the S3 tbh, the S4 Pro trumps the Exynos; 2GB RAM > 1, the screen is at a higher resolution and the build feels more premium than the S3. The only reason it's sometimes called a mid range phone is because of the price. There also seems to be a lot of hate for it on the internet though, which is odd because everyone I know who has one likes it. I think that it's only because loads of people wanted one but had huge delays when ordering it.
A case will provide more protection than a back protector.

Just because a gs3/4 is over $500 doesn't make it a high end device, calling the nexus 4 a mid range device is ignorance, and yes the nexus 4 beats both

Hello!
I have the HTC One for about 2 months and I wonder if I did the right choice,I am a 3 years old fan of HTC (N1,DHD,Sensation,OneX,One) ,the One was a natural choice and loved the design but for the 1st time with an HTC I am getting scratches and borders chipping easily, which make me angry when I bought it for 800$!
Even the camera lens scratched.
I bought the dip flip cover but it's too late.
I am tempted to go into S4 i9505 but I am afraid to lose the loud speaker for hearing the ringtones in any situations and the clarity of wallpapers.
If someone already switched from the One to S4,please tell me if you had any regret or feel you loosed something.
Thanks
I had a One for two weeks and then switched to an S4 . I don't regret it one second.

I have the One and the S4 and each have their pros and cons. I guess if I could only chose one device it would be the One. Both are really great devices I don't think anybody would be disappointed with either (just my two cents). If you switch to the S4 there will no doubt be things that you will miss about the One but the S4 will bring advantages the One does not have. So it's really 6 1/2 of one a dozen of another. It comes down to personal preference and what you use your device the most for.
I wish i could afford both, but the stereo speakers won it for me, also i was sick of the too vivid colors and constantly worrying about screen burn-in, I miss the deep blacks though, my last phone was an S3
John.
IMO u will get more than u will lose
the speaker on GS4 very good and trust me the screen OMG looks great its the best AMOLED display ever :good:
I was using both phones for awhile and finally decided on the s4 because of its bigger screen, slimmer and lighter feel. The one has fantastic speakers and a slightly clearer screen but the one thing I actual miss is HTC zoe. Most ROMs for the s4 come with modified audio settings so it is pretty loud. Take into consideration the one is smoother in operation however the s4 is quicker in opening aplications. I suggest you get your hands on a s4 to familiarise yourself with it and see if you could switch.

I sold my att HTC One when I moved to T-Mobile. I did entertain the thought of getting a Note 2 or S4 instead of a T-Mobile One. I viewed a friend's S4 with direct sun on the screen. It was a struggle to view the display. The One is iPhone bright... Viewable in direct sunlight. So that was the sanity check I needed. I have another One. And I use the video highlights and speakers several times per week.
If brightness is important to you, you'll be disappointed in the S4.

We tried ringtones on a i9500 and the speaker was really tiny compared to the One,but I am using xloud mod on my One :silly:

Another thing,I am using HTC Stereoclip in my car and the One gives loud BT volume,I hope S4 has the same loudness over BT

If you are getting the I-9500 Perseus kernel with sound mod is simply fantastic. The external speaker isn't as good but through good headphones no comparison, my I9500 sounds considerably better than my One (and louder). You can also make the ringtones crazy loud on the S4 they just won't sound as good because of the dual speaker set up of the One.
I liked the speakers and the rendering of color on the One more than the S4. I have the S4A now and I like the colors more, but the speakers on the One are full of win.

and about the speaker probably the One stereo speaker in nicer overall and u can use mod ( or costume kernel ) to rise the speaker volume on GS4 too
is it locked for HTC devices ? i don't think so or maybe u can use Aux cable instead
