Can we get a I337M specific subform? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Considering our model numbers are different and our bootloaders are unlocked we seem to be making progress here in these forums but continue to have people get mixed up with their AT&T variant and ours.
This consistently leads to comments about how something won't work or to not do anything since our bootloaders are locked when they aren't because we have the canadian variant.
Just a request to avoid confusion between the two devices and parties.

Agreed. For a while, most of the discussion of the Canadian variants were in the general section of the international S4 forum, which is not really the same phone.

Once the bootloaders are unlocked its the same device... Why a different forums?
sgh-i747(d2att)(sgs3) on latest cm10.1 or ultimatum

By segregating forums it's not going to help development later when the bootloader are unlocked for the AT&T version.

Here's why, there are 5+ mobile operators in Canada using the same phone with the same unlocked everything. In the America you have 3 different variants depending on the carrier. By segregating we are less likely to cause confusion between us and one of the plethora of variants in America, less bricked devices and better specific support for said device. To have a canadian subsection for any and all Canadian phones would be beneficial to the community and development progression as we could continue to develop and create without the risk of being detrimental to your community in its current state.

They do. Not to mention our LTE band is different here, so we can't just flash AT&T custom ROMs without flashing our own Canadian carrier branded radios.

Most likely everything will be interchangeable once the bootloaders are unlocked and they will be by the end of this month.
If nothing is interchangeable or the devices prove to be completely incompatible in many ways then separate them.
At this point, if there was no point in separating the forums, and a Dev made an awesome ROM, he would probably receive a lot more donations if the forums are kept together if and ONLY IF they are compatible development wise.
Waiting 3 weeks isn't going to kill you.

As mentioned, the radios are different and we use different LTE bands. Any ROM made for the AT&T version would require us to flash a Canadian modem at the least.
Anyway, when all the major carriers with 95%+ of the subscribers in this country are using the exact same phone, I think our model # should at the very least be put in the title of one of the forums. That would keep posts concentrated better instead of being spread between this forum and the international forum.
Then again, our phone is just as much an I9505 as it is an I337. Just different radio.

My bet is that development comes in full force. Att is offering such a sweet bundle deal on the N1520 that its hard to resist picking it up when you buy either the Note2 or the SGS4. Speaking of those two LTE devices, look at all the developent they are getting!
Patience...
As for separate threads:
I wouldn't bet on it until after the proliferation of development makes it hard to navigate within the existing shared thread.
Edit:
My mistake, looks like the Note8 that att has a deal on is the I467 not the N5120 (just checked in About Device).
Where are the N5120's coming from?

N5120 is 3g + LTE model for around the globe (minus US, which is in a totally different world of their own)...
N5100 is 3G model
N5110 is wifi only model
I would love that too. Looked through the dev forum and not a single custom kernel for n5120.

N5120 is the only model selling in Hong Kong.
+1 from me also, problem is that we need some devs to own a LTE-device and then also develop for it. A thread is good and all, but it wont magicaly make ROMS and Mods appear
And hopefully now that Samsung released 4.2.2 for the N5120 we might see some more things pop up
Guys, there is a mod post for requests in the main forum. Please post there as well.

On a side note, i would strongly recommend all users of 5100 + 5120 models to buy Sony SBH52... its not released yet, but it would make a great complement to our device...

Why is it an impossibility to somehow use the dev edition to assist in the unlocking of the retail edition?

My personal guess would be there is no dev edition released, but I am only guessing like everyone else here.....
Im guessing there will be a dev edition ther is for the s4 why not the note 3. What has me curious is a read a thread about chip bending or binary bending which changes a chip into dev mode basically. Im only read the thread and have ben wondering this since. Plausable? What is the physical difference between dev and regular note 3

I'd be pretty confident that there will be a developer edition. My question is: will there be anything developed for it, since the main phone will most likely remain locked or, at best, be only partially unlocked? I think it's gonna be developer phones or bust for these Verizon Samsungs from now on. We should start dedicated developer phone threads.

[POLL] SM-N900W8/Canadian Variant Note 3 users want our own forum!

Dear Mods,
I know I'm not alone when I say this, but we would like our own forum for our Canadian variant of our device. As our device is significantly different from other variants, and nobody likes specific projects for N900W8 to be jumbled along with ROMs for N900 or N9005 (as they can't be installed on a W8 device without major issues), I would like to start a poll to gather people who would like a clean forum, not a forum with three different variant's ROMs jumbled up together that aren't cross flashable.
Also asking questions and finding solutions is easier when the entire forum uses the same device, so a solution for the specific device is much more convenient in the same forum!
Also go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46446026&postcount=11600 to like my post and also post a quick reply saying you want the N900W8 as well!
Thanks a lot!

Wind runs on diff frequencies. ..people on wind dont even get LTE. having this phone and no lte is like having a ferrrari but you cant take it out of first gear!

I'm just wondering, would it be possible to eventually kind of convert the Canadian Note 3 variant into an American variant? I don't think I've read about any hardware differences between the two variants. Also, I can't imagine there would be too much development for just the Canadian Note 3 alone (or has there been an active developer community for Canadian devices previously?).

What up with carriers locking bootloaders?

Are us At&t custom ROM users going to have to move on to greener pastures with this Knox bs or will someone unlock the s4, note 3, and s5 (when it comes out) bootloaders at some point? Just curious if anyone has any insight on this, cause if we can't unlock it I'm definitely moving on to another carrier, personally. Or at least I'll buy international unlocked or Google editions in the future. Thanks and f at&t and Knox!

Bootloader being locked has nothing to do with KNOX. And AT&T has already released an official statement a while back that said they plan on locking ALL carrier branded phones in the future.

They lock them to keep people from hard bricking their devices. If it stinks...buy a Nexus or GPE device
I think we have to wait a while till the s4 becomes old news. Then att will care less about it and there will be less updates and more time for someone to find a crack or leak for the bootloader unlock and the carriers will care less

Sad part is until it's paid off it not really your phone. Since they have a warranty for a year to cover issues it only makes sense. Now if they would provide an unlock after that warranty is up and the contract is settled then it would make sense.
Att will never have a unlocked device again, watch and see.....
And these are the reasons I'm going to be moving over to T-Mobile or nexus devices. Just tired of AT&T all together.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Another view:
I will stay with ATT as Verizon is too expensive and TMO in my area has sh**ty reception. ATT has been perfect for me in that area.
Also, I have been a heavy flasher for almost 4 years. The phones now are powerful enough that flashing roms is not that important to me as it once was. If I can get root with Xposed/Gravity Box/3Minit I am good. Plus there are fairly good backup apps now that Nandroiding isn't that critical.
I don't see much more coming my way, after this year, in improvements I am interested in. Something like a Note4 or S5 would be as far as I care to go.
All IMHO of course
:good:
I thought that I read somewhere on a T-Mobile thread that the latest update locked the bootloader on the S4. Was that incorrect?

The i337 bl was always locked but the loki-doki exploit bypassed sig check and allowed us to flash recoveries and kernels. With mf3 they closed that loophole by "blowing the Q-Fuse", whatever that is. Googled it but forgot what I read.
And now you are limited to flashing mostly TW roms <4.4. No custom recoveries/kernels.
