Just wondering is this a software thing?
Is this something on HTC's end? Im pretty sure we could get smoother recording for video capture, it kinda makes me sick when watching back clips recorded.
I guess I can't complain since I remember the older smartphones.
Thanks.
The camera and vid are nothing special but nor are they all that bad. As you say, just remember how it used to be! I actually think the video capture is pretty good for what it is.

Make sure in the recording option its set to MP4. And you updated firmware, seems to make difference.
Yeah I think the phone is amazing, htc have come a long way. I've been doing loads of tweaks on the thing and its improved it massively...
I'm pretty sure they could tweak the video too, if htc fixed the pink spot then making the video record smoother would be great. Does anyone know how to play around with the code for the video recording app?

The new .148 ROM? I thought they didn't do anything for the camera app.
Since I upgraded Rom and the camera fix, the video looks better on mine.

This was the first time I've seen the device with the keyboard attached being used. I can definitively say that I will be buying the dock... If it ever arrives on US soil. With me not having a laptop it should prove useful.
He just posted a new video about the Polaris software.

Just watched some of the first video. Shame it's so quiet. I wish google would normalise all the audio on videos uploaded to youtube. Just wanted to comment on a few things he said:
-The @Vibe app is for music and streaming radio, not for games, in the UK. Might be different for other countries.
-It's not lightweight. Lighter than other devices but its still not light.
-You get bad stuttery 1080p mkv's if theyre not encoded properly.
-That green screen camera thing is fixed in the latest firmware.
-The refresh rate of the video recording is bad. So is the fps of any video you record. Hopefully it will get fixed. It's meant to do up to 1080p @30fps.
-The playback and quality of the video streaming via Splashtop is ridiculously good as he says. I was surprised.
-He's also right about needing to have several apps to play various files. Feels odd to switch between them to play different formats but its not a problem.
Nice to see the dock in action. Cant wait to get mine.

Just an offtopic note: normalising wouldn't help in most cases (one high peek in the whole video will make the sound very quiet even normalised). Making sound louder would in most cases require compression and limiting which is not always wanted and can't be done properly by a machine only (if you want to know more - read about loudness war and audio mastering on Wikipedia). Normalising could also be very bad for videos recorded in silence - you would hear every background noise that was recorded very loudly.
Splashtop looks very interesting. It's a shame it's only for Macs and Windows (I would like to use it on Ubuntu).
Great detailed review. Just watched both part 1 and 2 and has reassured me that this is definitely the tablet I want. All of the negatives that I read on Engadget or Techradar can't remember which it was seem to be non existent in the video as they said it lags quite noticeably behind touch which it didn't really show and looks like it's going to be a great tablet with lots of future potential. Can't wait to save up and get one which looks to be at around the time stock will be back in with all the delays lol

Hi, Sorry, I should have adjust the volume of the video before I uploaded it, thanks for pointing that out.
@Vibe is like an entertainment center, it has Books, games, and Musics, at least that's how it is in Taiwan, not sure about other country.
and you are right, the video recording is really slow and hopefully it gets fixed soon.
Thanks for pointing out the firmware update, I've yet to update mine, will do and see if anything else is different.
Best,

hello there
i was wondering on this issue.
the snapdragon 800 supposedly can do real 720P slo-mo at 120fps. right?
well, i checked many YT videos of the NOTE 3 alongside the A7's similar slo-mo (apple's 5S),
and it DOES NOT LOOK 720P at all. it looks pixelated, or better say, UPSCALED 480p.
while the A7 produce a video that's really usable, and really looks like genuine 720P.
why is that? from the specs i read on the SD800 it clearly says it HAS that capability.
this is a feature i just gotta have in my next phone and i want an Android phone with proper screen size.
any thoughts on the matter?
thanks!
Hmm I think you got it completely wrong..

yea i saw it, thanks.
whether of not this is true, i could see with my own eyes from the many YT 720P videos that it's vastly superior to any other rivals with this option.
mainly the Note 3.
so they say the 5S is not genuine 720p? so it means the Note 3 is even less than 480p? i need FACTS.
and my eyes tell me the 5S looks like 720P. and the NOTE 3 looks like an upscaled 480p
please look in YT and tell me i'm wrong?
the 5S videos are usable to me. the NOTE 3 aren't.
so, why is that?
I don't have any reason to not believe you but.
To me it looks like genuine 720p. GSM arena a respectable site says it's genuine, while the 5s is not, so..
It seems to me maybe you have individual issues with it. Did you try flashing the APK camera again or another rom maybe this will solve your issue?
Worst case scenario is that you have a faulty camera and you need to give it for a repair?

you misunderstood me.
i don't own a Note 3. i am looking for an Android device that can do a decent 720p slo-mo,
and from all the latest snapdragon's out there, the Note is the only one that claims to do a real 720p slo-mo.
i looked at many comparisons videos on youtube, downloaded them and studied them.
conclusion: the 5S is doing at least a x2 better job, whether it's fake or not.
if you could upload a sample of a 120fps slo-mo from your Note 3 and let me study it, i might be proven wrong.
but from MANY samples on YT, my eyes tell me a different story. please check for yourself and tell me.
(i'm not allowed to paste links yet, sorry)
btw - the gsm arena themselves say that they took a 720p video (NOT slo-mo) from the Note 3 and compared it to the 5S slo-mo, so obviously they didn't compare it right imo.
Ok I will be Cpt Obvious but... Do not trust YT. Or the internet samples from the vast majority of YT channels. I only read respectable sites and not the biased stories of every guy that posts or reposts the same videos with unproven or unscientific or biased methods.
Beyond all that, logic says a smartphone that can shoot 4K video @30fps and [email protected] certainly can do 720p @120fps. Especially with a processor like the S800.
If I have some time to upload a video I will do it for you, but I can't make any promises.

Read the article again carefully. They did that since iPhone 5s does not support regular 720p video . Also the method is more than legit if you follow their logic. I am sorry to say that again but I would take the GSM Arena's findings any day over a YT's channel.

Once you choose the video resolution you open the "gear" menu and select the recording mode from a videocam icon that is there. There is no 30/60/120, just normal,fast,slow/smooth/limit for MMS options, depending on the video resolution you choose.
Thanks, I managed to find the options. There are actually some other options as well, you can set 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8 (default).
I've made two quick recordings of me picking up a pen and dropping it, one in slow-mo (1/8) and one at regular 720p. There's a definite difference in quality, I think.
Rather than upping them to youtube, here are the files straight from the device for a better comparison:

He's not kidding. I think many people can't tell. It does indeed look pixelated and i'm here in Singapore. I showed my friend and she can't tell, i wish everyone in the world can't tell so we can all just live a big lie but it's pretty obvious there if u compare it with another 720p at 30fps
I'm just surprise that there isn't too many mentioned about it. Sad to say, cos of this issue, i haven't been doing any 120fps video cos of the bad quality, a feature i was really excited over nothing. I wish Samsung would fix it though, if they even think it's a problem to begin with.

I know! I haven't once use it to take a video that i can upload but i'm thankful for the 60fps FHD. That one works really well
There are three modes for slow-mo.
If you select slow-mo 1/2 videos are recorded at true 720p - 120fps (quality is same as with regular 720p)
If you select 1/4 or 1/8 slo-mo (slower movements) videos are recorded at 240/480 fps and resolution is definitely lower (probably 480p upscaled) and you could clearly see difference in quality as well as pixelation.
Try recording at 1/2!

Tried. Quality looks better but i'm pretty sure that's not 120fps? Cos it's almost the same speed as a normal 30fps. Regardless, i think it's really poor. I hate to say this but iPhone 5S one looks way better even though it's not true 720p. And it can actually vary the speed, which is really nice.
Weird thing is the FHD 60fps look so much better that perhaps they should go for 120fps at FHD
I have the same problem.I would like to record 720p at 1/8.Isn't there any third party app that can help us or does it have something to do with hardware limitations?

it's also the wrong way to do things...the mic should be there to enhance the sound quality, not to make up for subpar standards. so they come up with something ****ty and earn more from it at the same time? i mean..the rest of the phone is great, no doubt about that. but this is really not right =(
Exactly, coming from the xperia s I expected this to be even better feel really deflated. Other than the sound issues the phone is awesome. Hopefully a software update can enhance the mic.

Hello all just thought that I'd share my opinion of this model and beg Sony/Google to do something about root.
I've had this for 24hrs now and coming from the Xperia Z I'm very happy.
The fingerprint works flawlessly every time and is in a very convenient position.
I feel that the volume button should have been above the power button.
The size compared to the Xperia Z is very similar. Everything is smooth and feels very nice in the hand.
Some ui changes to other Xperia lollipop versions.
The side bar in app drawer is gone. The notification bar is also auto hidden in the app drawer. Oh and where is the rotation option in the home settings.. Very annoying!
Root is very much needed as I feel Android is getting more like iOS everyday.
Battery life is impressive not had chance to test to its full potential just yet though.
I hope they continue in the mobile market as I don't think I'd want anything else.
I have the z4 tablet also and the ui changes I've mentioned here are present in the tablet ? I've loved the Xperia home in the past and also look for ports for other devices my family has. These changes however are making me think about moving to another launcher.
Anyway thanks for reading ?

Really? I had a few niggles with my Z3 I used to own and checked them at a Sony training event earlier this week and they are still present.
Namely,
The audio output is quiet. I tested with my headphones and compared to my LG G4 and HTC M9. Both louder than the Z5
Ringtones/notifications are quiet and only come out the bottom speaker. Still the same behaviour in the Z5.
The bezels. Still huge. Can make my peace with it but the G4 by comparison has a waaay better screen to body ratio.
I hope they sort out how quick they are compared to other brands when it comes to android updates...
Those aside it seems to be a great handset and I definitely miss the battery performance that I got out of the Z3.
The waterproofing was nice to have too.
The fingerprint reader is my favourite implementation of any handset on the market currently. Camera seems a vast improvement but the few dark shots I took were kinda noisy. I'm probably going to pick one up soon. I rather like the green one.
I'm a little disappointed in the camera - the centre of the picture is fine but as you get to the outer edges everything is really blurry/out of focus.

Another QC problem. Sony needs to know this, every time the first few batches of their phones have problems. The Z3 phones had some purplish tint on the middle of the photos, some Z3+ also had lens misalignment.
can you please update us on the battery life ,I had the Z3 and it was great but the battery life on the Z3+ wasn't as good .

I took quite a few pictures with the Z5C and compared them with my Redmi Note 2 and my Vivo Xshot. You can clearly see that the Z5C is only able to focus the middle of the picture. The corners are mostly darker, out of focus and blurry.
Take a look at my album https://goo.gl/photos/t8yMJ1wF7pwf3cPVA
The last two pictures are the most obvious ones.
Edit:
In terms of battery life.... I can not compare it to a Z3, Z3C or a Z3+ since I have never had a Sony phone before. From what I have heard that the Z3C has an amazing up to 3 days battery life I could not manage to get this much time out of the Z5C. I mostly had to charge it every day on normal usage.
One thing that bugs me even more is that if you want to view a picture it takes up to two seconds until the pic gets crisp. This is crazy. I used another picture viewer app as well. Same problem. I tried it with another Z5C in another store which had the same problem. It is really annoying if you want to view pics on your phone or on your TV and you always have to wait 1-2 seconds until the photo gets clear.
I do not think that the reason for this is the 2GB of ram. Can someone confirm this? Does this happen on the Z5 as well?

I disagree abut the audio being quiet I tested the same song on my Z3 vs the Z5 compact and the compact is alot louder and clearer. I have never tested the G4 but I do agree it is not as loud as the M8/9 but not many phones are.
Thanks for the feedback. I had an M9 and that rocked through headphones. I was hoping they improved volume over Z3 and it sounds like they did. I didn't expect it to track M9 levels, which to be honest, couldn't be played all the way open because it was so loud. Nice to have that option though
I cant wait till I receive this phone. I ordered the Made For Bond version and coming from a s6 I am not expecting super results. I am just tired of Touchwhiz and want to try something new. I hope this phone does it for me.
