I had this issue with the S3. They're not all the same. My S4 button is fine. Only problem is the damn animation lag.

mine is about as flush as it can be, with just enough of a bump so i don't miss it if I'm quickly just feeling for it and not looking

I guess its not a defect or a reason to return. I'd feel a whole lot better if I knew a touch2wake type of mod could work on the sgs4 in the near future.

It seems the bottom buttons sometimes don't respond to touch. It takes a few taps to wake them up. Anyone else notice this?
yes i have, but mostly the home button... but once all of them are lit, the sensitivity goes up for some reason

For me they work great, a nice change from the N1.
I noticed as well at tmobile checking it out.. buttons are like the n1. Got to hit it perfectly

The buttons seem WAY better than on the N1.... I have yet to have to try and press a button twice.

No they do not. I wish they would stay on as long as the screen stays on. On the Samsung Fascinate for Verizon, they button DO stay on, so I believe this will or could come in a future update.
As for the sensitivity, I think they work great. I haven't used an N1, but on the N1 all the reviewers complained about the buttons, and with this phone, no reviewer has complained about the buttons so far, so I bet they are better. As for me, I have no complaints with them either.

Huh, I was gonna say mine are too sensitive, as I can hover over them and they go off without touching them. Then again, in the winter time static electricty always finds a way to knock my on my butt all the time. I should prolly stay indoors during lightning storms.
hopefully there is an update or tweak to keep these buttons powered on as long as the screen is on!
This is a pretty large problem. Whenever I place the nexus 10 on its back it goes right to the lock screen. Unlocking it without moving the tablet results in the home screen appearing for a second or so and then goes right back to the lock screen. When I pick the tablet up it turns on and goes right to the home screen. I've gone through three ROMs and stock and this is happening on all of them.
Perhaps a dumb question - but when you place it down, is it near a magnet? It sounds like what would happen if you were laying it down on a magnet that is triggering the smartcase on/off feature.

Good glory be if that's the reason why I'm an idiot haha. Never even thought of that. I was placing it on top of my nexus 10 sleep/wake case so that could very well be the issue. I'll test it and see what happens.
Looks like your question wasn't dumb at all. Just me being careless and not thinking was. That was precisely the issue. Thanks.

Hey guys,
My power button seems to be pushed in...
it's not that pronounced..
Coming from an S2, the buttons seem/feel really pushed in. i can barely feel it.
I've looked at videos and high quality pictures of S4 on review sites, and they seem to be more popped out.
My power button looks/feels strangely pushed in.
Is this a defective unit?
seems like volume buttons are a bit under-pronounced..
how about you guys?
Post some images so we can compare them to our S4's

EDIT: it just feels really pushed in.. like when I press it, i don't feel it going in a lot. Maybe this is how they designed it?
The "click" sound is lower in volume and not as "Crisp" in feeling. (relative to my S2)
Your power button does look a little more recessed than mine...

thanks for that information!
hmm what do you think I can do about it?
exchange for a new one?
would i be able to do that in the corporate store even though I got it off of online preordering?
would they accept this as a reason for exchange?
I have 14 days =(
Thanks in advance for your help!

Compared to my GS2 Skyrocket if feels a lot softer. My GS4 doesn't have the same resistance and travel distance as my Skyrocket but the SRs button was almost flush with the device so to me the GS4 button feels more pronounced.
My s3 was like that. I opened up the phone, cut and placed a tiny piece of scotch tape behind the button to make it stick out a tiny bit more. Worked good, but when I did this the phone wasnt brand new so its your call. Maybe exchange it at the store?

hmm yeah i need to be 100% sure that mine is a defect before trying to exchange it.
I can exchange it for a new phone at the AT&T store right?
would this be a valid reason? I'm worried that they won't let me..
well, I would certainly try while the phone is new. Tell them your are concerned that if its pushed in this much now, that after using the phone for a year ( or however long) that your worried it will be pushed in even more. Worst can happen is they say no. At least you can compare it to another phone anyhow. I will say mine has been like that since I bought it and it has not affected the operation other than having a case over it, then you have to really push the button hard to get it to work through the case, but that was on a certain case, and doesnt seem to be as hard on my other case.

You're fine, pretty sure they're all like that mine is too. Maybe they did it to have it "blend" in more so it all looks like 1 solid unit

My power and volume buttons are barely visible while looking from above. I don't notice anything hard to push. Seems fairly normal to me. You shouldn't have any issues returning to a corporate store but I think the release date isn't until the 27th in stores.

For the wifi connect and disconnect, could it be the power saving thing that was on the S3? From the dialer try *#0011#, then press the menu softkey and select wifi, then turn off the power save mode. I know this would get rid of the constant connect/reconnect on the S 3. Not sure it works on the S 4.
It happened to me too when i switched my skyrocket to the S3. The S3 power button its kinda small and hidden so maybe just need to get a long with it

it turns out that it was constantly trying to connect to ATT Hotspot network. I went into advanced setting and disabled that thing, and no more problems since! =)

No I never faced such issue..
This is common in 303K and 305K version phones.. Just chill not a big issue.
If you are rooted you can use smart screen on to wake/off the device with a tap/slide.

I have gone through that particular thread before. Although I have always used LMT to lock, and turn the screen off, but I am not very comfortable with apps like s2w. Anyway, I am thinking more along the lines of a hardware fix. Has anyone gotten theirs done?

A few N3's had the crooked home button, and it seems the gap between the screen and top of the device appears to have reared it's ugly head. Same manufacturing plant no doubt creating small but similar issues.
