I was a noob before and made my 2nd partition as FAT32 for my Link2SD, now I want to change/convert it to ext3 while able to keep my files. Is it possible?
BTW I want to do this because they say ext3 is faster

Nope..
Just backup all content and format to ext 3
Do it on a Mac or Linux since windows can't detect ext parts

Is it possible to have our data sectors written as ext3 or ext4. I remember from my g1 days that they are supposed to be faster then ext2 never heard a diffenate on that though.... Personal experience is ext3 is fastest but thats just experience and imo, nothing to prove that...sorry if this had been asked I searched and dididn't come up with anything..
A tutorial on how to create a swap partition is also interesting.
Sorry for my english...
Ext2 is used because the way the data is accessed under ext3 and ext4 reduces the life of an SSD. Ext3 and Ext4 would be fine if you used HDDs, but we don't have a slot that big on our HD2s.
Thanks for the response, but I think some of us are willing to cook a sd card if it improves performance.

how de we create ext4 partition?
I have looked for similar posts but I haven't found exactly what I was looking for or I found old posts in the general sections of the forum, so I ask here:
What is the usefulness of an ext3 partition on the SD memory for applications?
Can anyone tell me an accurate guide to follow the procedure?
No one knows how to help me?
I think you will not need it.
ext3 earlier used for app2sd, but now almost all custom roms have native app2sd = means that you don' t have to make a own partition
correct me if im wrong

I'm starting to think that there is no use to format the SD to ext3..
U can make a partition in your SD for example of 1 gb EXT3 only for apps, you can make it with minitool partition wizard home edition (its free)
In ext3 the apps is fully saved in the sd (.apk, dalvik cache and data) and you can liberate more space in the disk than app2sd.
if u don't understand say me jaja my english is poor and i talk like a tarzan ! xD

Finally!
Thank you very much. I will provide downloading MiniTool Partition Wizard and format the sd by myself. If I find it difficult, I will ask your help here.
you are welcome, other form of format the SD in ext is with clock work recovery but you'll lose all your data
make a backup of your all data in sd before make a partition !
hi
i also have an olive pad & in a discussion in that forum i found out that if we use CWM to do to ext it does only ext2 & not ext4(see below link)
link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17028858&postcount=6
now my question is how to do we do EXT4part via CWM as i was told that we
need ext4 to be present on our SG3 for the apps2sd to work on the cooked roms
i do have the madteam apps apk can i use that
thanks in advance & sorry if this question was asked i could not find it

hi
thanks guys let me explain a little more on why this confusion
i also have a HTC tattoo on which i also have CWM
on the tattoo i have the option of converting ext2 to ext4 ie on the system CWM
we dont have the same and im not confy with the above mentioned tools. so will Madteam apps work for me
and again another reason for this confusion is that recently i have been having alot of problems with the cooked roms not working well and i feel maybe this is because of me having ext2 & the cooked roms need ext4.Do correct me if im wrong here

umm.. if u really want to use minitool or gparted.. then y takin so much pain to use cwm to partition.. partition ur sd directly to ext4..
FuguMod and G3MOD kernels are capable of converting file systems of sd-ext partition too
add this line to fs.convert and making the partition through cwm(and btw i think it makes ext3 partitions)
anyways here's the line
Code:
mmcblk0p2 ext4
hope it helps

IF you made a partiton, convert it to ext4-helps a lot (in other ways too because ext4 is far more better than ext2)
the partiton isnt needed for any cooked rom
it is just an addon so we can get more space for apps
If you can specify what kind of problems you are having and on which rom then i can help more
Okay, I am now thinking of partitioning my SD Card....
So a few questions:
1. What are ext4, SWAP and any other kind of partitions and the difference between them?
2. How do I partition and what should be the size of different partitions, how many partitions and each partition for what purpose?
3. After partitioning, what next so that all my apps go to partitioned SD Card, like adding a few App2SD Scripts?
4. What exactly are these App2SD and Data2SD Scripts and the difference between them?

That was a good read....
But what is "Swap"?
I have no idea what that is....
And is there specifically any difference between ext3 and ext4?

AFAIK swap is a partition that makes it run as ram when its required.. In short for memory!!
And ext3 and ext4 are just linux partitions and ext4 is recommended. Google is always your friend!!

If you are getting some errors/bugs after partitioning, disable swap as it doesnt work for every1

Thanks for all the info mate....
I don't exactly know how to create it. I already have an EXT3 partition that I created with CWM recovery. Can I convert that to EXT4 somehow or do I do something else? If I can convert it, please tell me how. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response, but what exactly is that? Can I use a flashable zip to convert ext3 to ext4 instead? If so, can I have the link to the flashable zip? I need ext4 because of Sense 3.5 ROMs.... they give better performance.

It's not a zip I meant take it sd card put it in your computer and use a program to partition sd cards to do ext4 because you can only do ext 3 on your phone through Cwm not ext4
