Hi,
On my S5 (SM-G900FQ) , there is original Samsung ROM (4.4.2) , rooted but with default Recovery.
I want to update to new official rom (Lolipop) and then re-root.
What is the most easiest and convenient way to achieve this ?
I can update to Lolipop rom through Odin. But then how can I get back root easily ? (without installing CWM if possible)
If I have to install CWM, which version should I use ?
Thanks.
I'd appreciate any help. There are lots of threads talking about root'ing but I couldn't find the one which works for Lolipop official ROM.
I've recieved an official update on my Note3, now my baseband /bootloader /pda/ is N9005XXUGPOF3, while the CSC is N9005NEEGPOF3. I live in Italy
The phone is still stable and smooth, but the battery leakage is crazy.
I would like to root the phone and install twrp to put on some custom rom. Does anybody know if and how I can do it?
I was checking about chainfire root method and i have to choose one of those too,
SM-N9005 (International Qualcomm): CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip
(only works on 4.4 bootloaders, if you're still on 4.3 use the old version which you can find here:...)
Which is my bootloader version at this time?
Can I use safely the 4.4 bootloader version?
How should i procede to root the phone?
Question goes to Q&A section mate, not here in General.
I can't comment about CF auto root method as I have stopped using it long ago. But for me, the easiest way to root is, flash TWRP recovery, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494245 and then head over here to get the latest SuperSU zip, https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and then flash the zip package from recovery. Done.
You root all right, flash any custom ROM you want, but there shouldn't be any leakage issue on Stock ROM. I am on an almost stock ROM, and the OF3 ROM is simply very good, there is not battery leakage at all!
Hi,
I'm new to the custom roms and would like to see advice on the recommended method to install a custom rom onto my untouched I9505. It's currently running Lollipop 5.0.1, I9505XXUHOE4 with KNOX 2.3
Thank you
This would belong into the Q&A section.
Anyway, the first thing you will need to do is to install a custom recovery. I recommed TWRP.
Just google twrp s4.
Optional: if you want to backup any apps or data, you will have to root first. Use odin and cf auto root.
After you installed a custom recovery, just look for a rom that interests you and flash it. Every rom has flash instructions.
Also check to make sure your phone doesn't have a locked bootloader. If it does, things are going to get complicated. If it doesn't, then you're good to go. AT&T and Verizon lock the bootloaders.
Thanks for info GDReaper.
My concern here is KNOX. Will the new bootloader affect anything on the custom roms as compared to a pre KNOX bootloader. Do I need to downgrade the firmware first?
Thanks
Hi @elus,
Installing any custom firmware will trip Knox. You can't downgrade it to pre-Knox bootloader.
Sent from my GT-I9500
Knox will not affect anything. Flashing custom firmware will only trip knox. This means that you lose your warranty. But the warranty is crap anyway, so it doesn't matter.
You won't see any trace of knox in custom roms. You might as well forget you ever had something called knox.
An easy way to root the ROM with TWRP is to flash supersu.zip from TWRP. Upon first boot, open supersu and let it disable knox and update binary files if necessary. You should be fine from that point forward.
Great! Thanks guys for the guide. Let the custom rom mods begin! Happy New Year Everybody!
Hi there
First of all i dont know if i write in right section. If not sorry for that and sorry for my english.
I have a cf-autoroot rooted stock rom using 6.0.1 n910c. And twrp installed.
My first question is if i want to install stock rom would that be safe or would i need to clear data(full wipe) first?
I think it can be flashed through odin and it will unroot my phone? Would twrp be a problem or when i flash stock rom my recovery will be stock recovery?
And my last question is would flashing a stock rom bring back my deleted bloatware.
Thanks.
Anyone?
Helo guys ,have anyone update rom without loosing root? mean can we update rom flashing stock recovery only.or we have to unroot stock rom?
Root has nothing to do with having or not having a stock recovery. So the answer to your question is yes you don't have to unroot.
