I have seen that multi view was enabled for all apps on the Note 2 without needing root. Seeing as how there is not a recovery option out for the AT&T S4 yet, I'm refraining from rooting just yet. Has anyone tried to enable multi view for all apps yet????

Hi Guys!
I hope this has not been discussed and it's not a dumb question.
I just got my first android phone which is the note3. Ex-apple fanboy and man am I glad I switched!
Dont think I can ever go back to my iphone ever again.
That said, I cant seem to figure out one feature. Is there a way to create keyboard shortcuts? Ie - type omw and the phone will convert that to on my way?
I have looked online and all over in the phone and this is driving me insane!
Thanks again!

I don't actually know if there is a keyboard out there that supports it. SwiftKey doesn't and the Samsung stock doesn't either. Smart keyboard might have this feature, you can try search for it in the playstore. But if it's not that important to you, then I'd suggest to try SwiftKey instead. It's a killer keyboard and I bet it will blow your mind if you're used to Apple's keyboard

thanks for the informative post!
I guess I will have to keep my eye open for something of the sort in the future.
Out of curiousity, I thought I read about some form of screen recording function on the galaxy note, but have no yet found that either.
Is that a feature of the note3 or an app? All I can do is screenshots it seems...

The Note 3 does not have screen recording. It is not limited to hardware though, so it is possible in the future. Screen recording is built in with Android 4.4 and above, so you might see the feature in the upcoming 4.4 update for Note 3. However, it will probably not arrive until January sometime is my guess. It's also worth noting that especially Samsung is known for removing some of Androids core features and add some of their own. Therefore it's not sure that we will get screen recording with 4.4 for Note 3. With that being said, you can download an application that offers screen recording, however that require your phone rooted. Keep in mind that rooting will possibly break your warranty.

Thanks for the info! Rooting Isn't a problem, and I'm ok with the warranty thing. I actually pay a monthly fee for an extended warranty because I drop phones a lot
I wish Samsung would be more like the Nexus series!
Any programs that record the screen that you guys recommend?

I don't know any myself, I just know there are a few in the Play Store. I never had the need for it myself, so I haven't tried them out. I'd recommend searching in the playstore and looking for the most downloaded one as well as the one with most stars.

I can't find a way to do this. Perhaps it isn't possible. I'd like to know.
Using a Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 running on Android 4.4.2. The phone is not rooted.
There is some xposed module for such thing, but I can't confirm
Was also looking for that, as far as I've read, it's all about samsung, they removes this option i think.
Also tried an xposed module "quick access" found on play store but didn't worked for my GT-I9500. Hope you have better luck than me.
The thread is in Android hacking and development if i do remember. Have a search

On adding a camera to lock screen with pin
[thanks for these responses. I suspect it can't be done without rooting the phone which still has 9 months of warranty left. Would using a different launcher make a difference or is it still the Samsung lock screen? I don't suppose writing Samsung would help. Not that I am likely to get an answer. Anyway, thanks again, Lisa
Sorry to bring up an old thread but has anyone got this working yet? I am looking for exactly the same thing, camera launch on a lockscreen with PIN on Samsung S4 Touchwiz/4.4.2
Would love to see it done. I found a great looking Xposed module that does this but it is not maintained and does not support KitKat
Cheers
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but anyways-
This is my first root project!
I want to root my VZW Note 3. However- I don't want to lose the samsung S-Pen software and features (would defeat the point of the s-pen) I would however like to be able to add more apps to the multi-windows panel as well as add the Note 2 s-pen feature of the "shape shortcuts". I also want to get rid of a bunch of samsungs bloatware.
Any ideas an how/where to go about this?
Your choices are limited for the Verizon N3. I just rooted via this thread. Painless. Do read through the thread, though, particularly the OP and the last 3 or 4 pages.

Do lots of reading on the link above. Kingo is a bit of a pain and I had to use an older version to finally get root. If this is your first root then read, read and read some more. Read how other people have bricked, or thought they bricked, their device and the suggestions people offered. Watch videos and follow carefully. I rooted the GN3 in the first hour I owned it and love the rom I am on. You will find the SPen functional in all roms that I have tried. BajaRom is my daily driver but they are all good. Have fun.

If you root you won't lose any features. The only thing root does is give you 100% access to do anything to your device. You can install and uninstall any apps you want.
Mabye you are confusing this with installing a custom ROM? A custom ROM is something someone created to override your particular operating system. Each one has it's own features, and comes with preset applications. Right now all the ROM's for the Note 3 have S-pen features enabled. You won't lose any functionality. There's tons of advantages a ROM will give you over just simply rooting. They often have all bloatware removed and have battery, GPS, or Wi-Fi tweaks.
Also, if your build number ends in MJE, the latest Kingo build (1.2x) is said not to work. One of the few places you may find an older version (1.1.5xxx) that works for mje is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51484205&postcount=347&nocache=1&z=6244302028009997
Follow the directions in the OP.
Get the latest kingo on their Facebook page. Works for MJE

I see that 1.2.2 came out just a few days ago. And it works for MJE on Verizon Note 3?
If so, what differences exist between 1.1.5.x (or 1.1.6x, both versions previously the latest version that worked with VN3/MJE) and 1.2.2?
Thanks All! Looks like I have a lot to research and learn before I attempt! Will post an update once I have achieved it.

I had to use 1.1.6 as the newer didn't work at all. slam face into wall was more fun.
It's really easy kamikazepyro. It should only take you a few hours of reading to be root ready. Get to it!
Hey everyone!
Just wondering (for those who have root) if they are able to get AppOps working at all?
I'm talking about this app specifically but if you use another one, I'm interested to know: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=droidmate.appopsinstallerpro
I know it works on some other KitKat devices such as the Nexus 5 but I'm curious if it works on the Note 4.
Thanks a lot.

On my Note 3 KitKat (4.4.2) I still can launch the Stock App Ops without root. I'm not sure how about 4.4.4 on Note 4.
You can give it a try.

Interesting to know.
I don't have the Note 4 yet. I was considering purchasing one but was just doing a little research into different things first. If I could still launch AppOps somehow, it's just one little thing crossed off the list.
Thanks.
Hey, I have a snapdragon Note 4 running 4.4.4, I haven't rooted it yet
But I have tried a few app ops/permission managers
(not the one you were requesting as it requires root) and unfortunately
they crash, I'm guessing root would fix that but I want to make sure the gear vr
works first on the rooted device. It is a great phone but going from
A Sony Z2 it feels like It needs a good bloatware clean, app ops
would help a lot too. This phone ultimately feels like it could fly,
If it wasn't shackled to the ground, for safety of course.

Hi guys, I finally managed to fix the YouTube 720p limitation on my note edge. You have to be rooted for it to work and it seems like it's sticking. I'm able to use the newest YouTube version 5.18 but the handwriting on the edge panel express me is still broken (which is not a big deal for me)
Here are the steps that I did
1. Force stop YouTube, delete data, uninstall update and disable.
2. On your rooted phone, go to system and find build prop and edit the ro.build.version.release=4.4.4 to ro.build.version.release=5.0
3. Go to system/apps and delete the YouTube.apk and the YouTube.odex and then reboot
4. Install the YouTube version 5.10 from here
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vm9ncnzyy7g94pf/com.google.android.youtube-5.10.1.5.apk
5. Open google play store and then update the YouTube app. Most likely it will update the app to version 5.17
6. Open YouTube and sign in and then close app (I just exit to main home page, open recent and close it through there. No need to force stop)
7. Install the newest YouTube app 5.18 from here
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/youtube/youtube-5-18-5-apk/
8. Open YouTube, I did my test by searching 4k video, play the video, tap setting and the 1440p option should be there
I hope this method works for you. And thank you to joey121215 for his post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56845690&postcount=71
Now I can enjoy the newest version of YouTube without the 720p limitation
Did u figure this out or see it in the note 4 forum? .Also check your S note, to see if it works .. Changing the build version from 4.4.4 to 5.0. Resulted in a fc of snote on n4.

I figured it out after reading some threads on both the note 4 forum and the note edge forum. S Pen still works perfectly after the mod. There is no FC whatsoever

Or you can just go to Youtube from your browser and it will then give you any resolution you want.

Yep. Thank you for letting us know, I merely copied your steps and added the capability to use YouTube version 5.18.
But none the less, thank you for paving the way ^^
Just updated to YouTube 6.0 and it sticks ^^
