S4 Music/MP3 Problem - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm coming from S2 to S4, and I have a really weird issue: The default music player shows errors while trying to playing any mp3 track "Sorry, the player doesn't support this type of audio file", and the player goes crazy then freezes. It happens also when I try to select an mp3 ringtone from sound settings, no matter what player I use "Stock, MixZing, PowerAMP, Winamp, or Player Pro".
I've searched Google & XDA, a solution was recommended by someone to remove the official Twitter app. I did, but the problem persists. I also try unmouning & remounting the SD card, removing & re-adding my music, and even restoring factory settings, still the same.
Any ideas?
Baseband version: I9500XXUAMDE
Build number: JDQ39.I9500XXUAMDE

Bump!

This is still ongoing .. Can someone please assist?
I also tried formatting SD Card, putting my music on both internal & external storages, no use.
Any help is much appreciated.

I'm listening trance music. The mp3 file sometimes reach up to 200Mb and I saw that only ones. So I just wiped cache/dalwik and it's disappear.
hmmm
Did you flashed Wanam Rom via CLEAN install ? (or on top?)
BTW your base (Baseband version: I9500XXUAMDE) is too old.
Update your rom

Clean. I also have tracks that exceed 300 MB (3 hrs Armin mixes), and they were working just fine on my S2.
This is really weird.

hi mate..
i'm also using S4 i9500, but didn't facing with any issues.
i'm suggest to use one mp3/music player to avoid software conflict.Let say u use poweramp make sure put all songs on ur sd card..open the player - setting - folder and library - music folder - unmarked top - make sure all boxes empty without marking - scroll down - u'll see one box marked (should be "music") - tap on music folder to check ur songs available or not. - if ur songs folder showed, u can play as usual..
that wht i've done for mine.

I dunno about that, I just bought a 32 GB class 10 Kingston, and the problems persists with/without it. I don't think I can change it now. Thanks though.

I'm ignoring the stock music player for now. Trying Rocket Player, and will check PowerAmp. Thanks for the suggestion.

The only problem I found with the S4, is the black one is louder than the white one (well on the I9505X demo models that I have tried) but even more than that is the Black I9505X demo models are louder than the Black I9505 retail models.

The I9505 is not available here so I can't really compare the voice loudness.
Can someone please attached the music app from the stock I9500 ROM?

Maybe the media files are corrupt. Try deleting these files, reformat your memory and recopy media to your memory.

All that has been done already. Sadly, the same stupid error remains.

Widget wanted mount/unmount storage card

Hello i´m searching for a widget to unmount and mount the storage card because if i move mp3 files with apps like anyFTP or aFile to the G1 i'm not able to open them. I have to switch the phone off and on and then i can use the files.
need Help please!
why not just take the sd card out then put it back in instead of turning the phone on and off?
there is an app on the market that does that...just throw it on your desktop..
it's not a widget but performs the function as it should...
use it until a widget is released...
@nephron : it´s too compicated! A widget or an app ist faster (i hope)
@Ike14 : Do you remember the name of the app? i have allready searched in the market but i found nothing!
It's called KingDroid.

I found it! But i only can use KingDroid with rooted G1 i don´t want to root it! Is there another app for non rooted devices?
Or do i need a rooted G1 to mount and unmount the storage card?

FOUND IT!...
App: MountUSB
It's in the market...just searched it...
But some recent user comments on the app say it's not working with cupcake (1.5)...
But try it...it's free...and you never know!
tried it but don´t work! Any other ideas?
noone else an idea?
do you have 1.5? you can mount/umount from the sdcard option in settings.
wait, why not just use a usb cable, and mount the sd card using the phone?! then drag and drop for christ's sake..
are you looking for one that mounts the SD card to the phone or to the computer? the script within kingdroid for mounting/unmounting the SD card is for when the phone is plugged into the computer, and it MAY work for just that function without root, but just wondering why you don't wanna root your phone, it's not hard and the possibilities become endless for this phone with root
i use an app to download mp3s. if i am not at home and download a mp3 i have to unmout and mount the card to open the mp3 file with the player thats why i dont can use the usb cable.
I dont want to root because the cellphone is new and i loose the garantie.

Uhm, this actually doesn't make any sense. Why in the hell would you have to remount your sdcard for a downloaded mp3? I've downloaded tons of mp3's on the fly with my phone and my music player just picks them up as soon as they're done.
What "app" are you using?

Hi,
why not use the latest build from Quarx for CM10....or else you can try Epsylon's build for your defy...
And make sure you start afresh....Clean Everything and then install the ROM hopefully things should work...
Thanks
I have the same problem too.
First version I installed is the 12 Aug nightly Quarx CM10. All wipes etc done before flashing.
Existing music and pictures that were on the SD card not found.
All new images taken with the camera are placed in the same folder as the existing ones on the SD card.
(MB525 Green lens)

If I say yes i get a message saying "Application data is updating this operation may take a few minutes" At this stage the phone justs stays as it is.

I've had this problem, best way to get it working is to:
1 - Ensure app is not saved on SD card
2 - Force Stop app and clear app data
3 - Unmount SD Card
4 - Open Deezer and when prompted to change storage location press 'Yes'
5 - Remount SD card
6 - Bob's Your Uncle.
Worked for me
Lovely thanks for that. worked for me.
It didn´t work , after step 4 Deezer is not prompting to change the media storage. I tried with other Micro SDs, same problem...

Unable to use OTG on android 4.4.2 head unit after firmware upgrade

I wanted to use a carplay device with my car . for this purpose I installed a firmware upgrade in order to unable to installation of applications.
After the upgrade, access to files on USB was lost .
Upgrade was taken from here :
That means that before an upgrade, I was able to listen to the music from USB stick via builtin media player. After the upgrade, media player does not see the USB.
For the same reason, carplay app doesnot see the device attached to USB port.
The strange thing is that I can see the files via file explorer ( from the head unit) , they are available at /storage/udisk.
so from one side the unit can see the USB and files, but from other side applications cant see it .
What can be the problem and possible solution ?

Permissions... file managers generally have global permissions.
Check through settings under storage and individual apps. That's my guess.

yes , I was thinking about it too.
The problem that when I want to change permissions via this file explorer , I got the error message that I am not root . but I do .
How can I be sure that I do root , or alternatively how to change permissions ?

Many times if a app is well coded and needs special permissions it will ask for them during installation. Sometimes they can be set after the fact. Try looking in accessibility.
I haven't played with Kitkat in years but generally it's pretty straight forward. I don't root so know very little on that side. ABD editing might be another option but my knowledge of that is very limited.
Try doing a bunch of Google searches for similar problems with Kitkat storage. The device doesn't have to be the same. You can find solutions many time by cross referencing other devices even platforms.
Many issues are long standing
After the initial search for each parameter, add XDA at the end to find posts here about it easily.
Doing searches for solutions is how I first learned of XDA many years ago

Ummm, I take OTG support for granted... but does your OS/device support it?
Maybe this is the issue?
Incompatible format on the card?
Try formatting card in the device then load data preferably with that device.
Swapping cards between devices can cause issues if each device is writing to it. Haven't seen it happen on Androids but Canon cams, hell yeah.

I tried several cards , small and big , formatted in a different ways.
And my device worked in the past , it is something that happened after the upgrade

It's rooted?
If it was a OTA upgrade I normally say factory reset time. In your case, not sure that's the right thing to do.
It's not the cards, it's settings or firmware I think it's safe to say.
Try clearing the system cache and a hard reboot.
Try in safe mode to rule out a rogue 3rd party app. Try clearing the data in the associated system apks.
Sometimes poorly coded 3rd party apps can toggle hidden user settings that remain even after uninstall. It's rare but quit the horror when it happens. Scruntinize the apps you installed.
One other irritating thing I've seen happen is clearing the data of a system appd in settings doesn't always remove presumably null marks. When I cleared the data with my package disabler, it fixed the problem.
Saved me a factory reset.
Fun isn't it? Been running down some glitches on my N10+'s, eventually you'll sort it out.
Keep at it over the course of a few days, weeks...
Only persistent is omnipotent
