Whenever i plug in my i9000, it just pop up an error msg ÜSB Device not recognized. I'm trying to get Kies to recognize my i9000
I tried following this but it doesnt work at all.
it worked for me on kies, but i didn;t like it anyways
What i did was go to settings --> about phone --> usb settings
and try the other options (i'm using media player option, not sure why mass storage doesn't work)
Did you try to change the usb ports on your pc (stick the cable into different usb ports)?

changing the usb port does help, however when i unplug it and restart my com, it does not recognize it anymore
What OS are u running?
Could also have something to do with the number of irq's on your motherboard.
PC's older then aprox. 3/4 years have less irq's and can have trouble with much external devices

Have a look at this site from HardwareZone.com.
It's heavily populated but you only need to read the last five or so pages.

yeah i am looking at that thread too, however thanks for the link here, good for documentation as well, appreciated
keevy17, u have the phone already? If yes, you could help us resolve our questions in last pages of this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694835&page=9
Q: Are there any notifications (on screen, backlight of buttons, ...) about missed calls, new mails, sms? Is there any notification when u charge the battery and the battery is fully charged?
Thanks in advance.
The default USB connection is to activate Samsung Kies. You'll have to go to settings->About Phone->USB Settings to change. If it doesn't work after changing, soft reset the phone and try again.
Caused me a bit of head scratching until I went through the options.
Now am having same problem, can'r see mass storage in my computer.
I think I read you need to enable USB Debugging then it will work. for both of you I believe.
With USB debug i can only use adb, nothing works. If i disable debug i can copy files via MTP protocol but mass storage doesn't work.
Edit.
Found the problem, it doesn't mount it self like Desire/N1 i had mount it my self. All working.

It was bit tricky to start with as i thought my phone is broke. First go to setting > About > USB Settings > and select Ask on connection. Plug the cable in to the and from drop down notification bar and hit USB connected then you get the option to mount the mass storage.

Thanks hassan, I'll try it later.
If you want kies to work with the phone, dont kill MTP.. But kies is acting weird, soemtimes it doesnt see the phone, but after unplug and replug it works again.. I've given up on kies actually, over 100MB to download and worst than some beta software i've used.
also, i cannot get samsung apps to work on kies, it just error or timeout.. you guys hv any luck?
I haven't tried kies yet, i'll try when i get home from work.
Anybody know how to mount on a Mac? I tried changing the USB settings to Mount/Media, no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
I can connect the i9000 to my PC using mass storage mode and see it as an USB disk, but it doesn't work on my Mac, it recognize nothing (I have chosen to mount the drive after connected to the USB as I did the same when connecting to Windows). I can see there is a Samsung USB device connected in the System Profiler but the disk won't mount, any clues?
Thanks.
I have the very same problem. Works in PC, not on my iMac.

if you just want to load, delete apps to the phone, DroidExplorer will do the job.

it use, similliar to the post from aaznak, the adb to connect to the phone, but with an nice gui (easy to use)
Try this:
Check if you have AutoMount in your app drawer (if you have a Mattc build then you should). If you don't, then download it, it's called- Auto Mount Your SD Card made by JR Studio.
Unplug your phone
Open the Auto Mount App
Check Enable SD Card Auto-Mounting and exit the app
Plug the phone in
You should now see it in my computer or finder (mac) as a removable drive.
Works for me, hope it works for you.

Hi xeebot,
Thanks for information. I was frustrated the last few days trying to solve the not able to HTC sync issue. I asked for the help in few threads but no solution until I saw you suggestion. I installed the auto mount sd card as suggested and it works. Thanks.
I just found a solution how to re-enable USB Mass Storage on our beloved Razr I.
Thanks for "PELLET Nolwenn" to bring me on the right track in the other thread I opened yesterday. It seems that the fella was right after all, he just didn't bring all the facts to the table.
It seems as though there used to be a USB Mass Storage Mode in our Phone but the settings for it got removed. The functionality is still there. You now have two ways of enabling that functionality again and for both you need root access!
First solution:
There is an app you can use, USB Mass Storage version 2.0 (any version before will not work!) Link is: http://d-h.st/2nc (Original Thread of this app is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389375)
In the Preferences you have to tick force ums/suppress mtp and reboot. After rebooting you will be able to use USB Mass Storage mode, even without activating the app by clicking on the android mascot.
You might need to enable USB Debugging.
Actually all this app does is to change an attribute, which brings me to the second solution:
fire up your favourite android console app, su, then setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage,adb
you might want to check if you did everything right with getprop persist.sys.usb.config
then type in reboot and everything is done
You might need to enable USB Debugging for this to work.
Keep it mind that this only works for the external sd card. i dont know if there is a solution for both cards, i tried to mess around with multi mound sd-card but no luck yet
Did a quick try .. doesn't work at all on mine
Install, check the "suppress MTP" on the settings, reboot, plus USB ... nothing appends (no UMS device appear on my XP desktop) , and still the MTP option on the USB settings of the phone ...
Do you have root access? Try the second solution.
Thks for your help blueeyes99! I made a mistake with the link, I put the older version even though I install the new (2.0) on my phone!

EDIT: Blueeyes99 is there a similar workaround for not rooted devices? it seems for rooting you have to have UMS enabled, but to enable UMS you have to be rooted. Will i have to downgrade to ICS to do this?
I am in stock ICS, rooted, and my phone connects as MTP, I am able to see both the internal storage and SD card (see pic).
After trying the second option, the phone does connect as mass storage, showing only the contents of the SD card, but no access (that I could find) to the internal storage... so I reverted to mtp,adb for now... unless somebody can point me to how the internal storage can be accessed and still be able to have the SD as a drive...

I'm wondering if anyone has run into this. ADB works fine if I have my phone connected and set to PTP. But if it is set to MTP, adb devices returns nothing connected. MTP itself still works fine to copy files over, and device manager shows the Android ADB device. It's not a huge issue to need to switch it, but it would be nice if there was a simple fix.

3 possible steps:
i) update SDK manager on your computer
ii) check USB debugging is..... well......checked in the phone settings
iii) update the drivers ( SDK manager or Google platform)
Another possibility is to ask your question in the window "search this forum of this thread.
Good luck

My answer is based on my own experience. The Nexus 7 was seen in PTP mode but not in MTP.
To address the issue, after a thorough reading in the XDA forum and thanks to the knowledge of our Forum members, I updated the SDK manager and re-install the drivers.
Hope I answer your concern.

I did try searching but most of the posts I found were eith er than MTP was not working at all or ADB was not working at all.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the ADB driver, but I will try completely removing the SDK next.

This is 99% a driver issue.
I had a similar experience when first setting up my n4.
Debugging on = adb but no mtp
Debugging off = not and obviously no adb
I uninstalled the adb drivers where possible.
Plugged in with mtp mode on and debugging off
Let it automatically install mtp drivers
Switch debugging on
Wait for it to install what it can by itself then manually install the adb driver
Results in fully functional adb & mtp
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Well, uninstalling the SDK did not work. I was able to get it working. After uninstalling the ADB drivers and plugging the device back in I saw that the device was still showing up as the ADB interface. I repeated the process a few times and it eventually stopped appearing. After that I reinstalled the driver and everything seems to be working.
i have the same problem
everything works, including PTP, but MTP refuses to work
ther's no error, no missing driver, it just don't appear
i have tried a lot of reinstall and removals
