[Q] Has anyone tried Samsung Link? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried Samsung Link. Is it any good? I am particularly interested in the phone/pc transfers. When you back up your photos/video to your PC, are they compressed? How is the speed and are there any limitations on what Samsung Link can do? I am very interested to see if I can stream FLAC audio files.

Has anyone tried this feature?

well i find samsung link very annoying. try serviio (http://www.serviio.org/) and serviigo

I'm using on my S2. It was previously called Allshare Play. It's pretty easy to transfer your photos and videos over wifi. I use it all the time. I'm too lazy to connect with a cable, hahaha.

It seems that it only supports media files. Is that correct? Samsung Link supports any type of file and also has a feature to automatically upload pictures and videos to your computer. Can serviio do that? And it seems that I will have to pay extra money to use this service. Samsung link also has the ability to choose where to save the files, can serviio do this? Can serviio allow me to upload files from my phone to my computer over 3g/4g? It seems that serviigo can only play media using their media player. Is this correct?
Can anyone actually try Samsung link and tell me how it works and how well it works?
Thanks

I use Samsung link. It is very good and useful. I can access my registered devices (my laptop, desktopPL and even my old SGS3) over 3G. I play movies or songs stored on my laptop over the 3g using Samsung link....

The easiest way to start using Allshare

Go here http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...XAA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support
to download the PC share manager software.
Install software and setup the file on your computer you want to share, the software is kinda slow so this may take a bit.
Turn the server on and open the Allshare app on your phone and click on playvfiles from server on phone.
Go to the PC share manager software on your computer and click on share and then device policy.
You should be able to see your phone, your phone is labeled SGH-T959, click accept.
Then go back to your phone and if the server is not showing yet click refresh and you should be set.
Now you can watch and listen to all your movies and music on your computer from your phone.
i went to that link but i wasnt sure what to click or download. can somebody help me out? thanks.

You running Windows 7?
Software version shows Xp/Vista...
Just checking if any1 knows if its compatible
There's and even easier way if you don't mind using Windows Media Player
If you click on the 'Library' drop down menu your phones server name should automatically show up, even if the allshare app isn't activated. From there, just find the folder where you stored your media and you should be good to go.
NOTE: You have to have, If you're using Windows 7, your media sharing enabled in the network and sharing options in the control panel.
EDIT: or u could just connect allshare to windows media center lol btw, i just figured ou how to use ALLSHARE WITH XBOX360!!!
The first thing I tried was the Windows Media Player and on XP it does not see my phone so I can't give access to my phone and even when I click share with all my phone does not see the WMP.
i could get the samsung app for my pc to work correctly on my phone however i can confirm, Windows media sharing works great

any one know how to do this with ps3???
You don't even need to use WMP if you are on Windows 7. All you need to do is go to Control Panel > Home Group and check the libraries you want to share. I'm sharing my pictures, music, and videos folders. Then check "Stream my Pictures, Music,....."
and hit "Save Changes" on the bottom.
Congratulations! Now your stuff is shared with your phone, Xbox 360, PS3, other computers, and anything else on you network. No software needed.

I use the AllShare app on the phone, but no software on the PC side.
My N900 supported file streaming from the stock media player as well.
I guess I'm a moron. I have XP at home and I couldn't figure out how to enable sharing via Media Player.

The PS3, Dont have to do anything it will see the phone. It will be under video, and under the PS store. It worked great.
I was told you can do this from your Xbox360, but could not get it to work.. Any help would be great.
What kind of file can the Vibrant play? I have a lot of xvid video but it says "sorry, this video cannot be played"
I cannot connect any of the ways described above. I don't know if I'm missing something but when I turn on allshare, it says no media. First I tried the way of the first post but I when I click on share and set device policy, I get nothing. Then I tried streaming a file through windows media player and i have streaming enabled but don't get anything on my phone. Then I made a homegroup with windows 7 but still don't see any shared media in allshare. My phone is connected to my wifi so any clue as to what I could be missing?

[Q] Vibrant to PC Sync App?

I've tried to use both Double Twist and Song Bird.
The problem with Double Twist is it will not sync videos because it tries to convert them for the phone. Problem is I don't want them converted because they play fine when I copy them.
Song Bird does music well, but what about videos? I did notice when it scans my library it doesn't seem to capture all of my music.
Anyways is there anything else out there we can use for our Vibrants?

I do copy and paste currently.
I just thought with the awesomeness of our phones that somebody would have figured out something cool by now.
Any pc/mac based sync app that can handle file trees should get the job done. Rsync would work..
Isyncr in the market is amazing.

[Q] Does Nexus Media Importer / org cable / usb flash work on Nexus 10

Can someone please tell me if they have been able to get to watch movies, pictures etc using a org cable, USB flash and nexus media importer? I am looking to buy the nexus 10 but will only buy this if I can get a USB flash to work on this device. I have a lot of music and movies and so its very important. I cannot afford the 32gb plus streaming is not an option.
Can someone who has the nexus 10 please let us know, because I am sure it's on everyone's mind. If it does work, can you also let us know if the quality of the video gets impacted by watching it through nexus media importer.
I would also want to avoid rooting if possible
Yes, Nexus Media Importer works with an OTG cable. I have been using it since I got my N10.
Can you play the movies with the app of your choice through the external storage?
Has anyone got a file explorer to work though, Media importer works but only for certain files.

NMI doesn't handle anything but media.
Currently there is NO solution to access OTG +RW for general access.
http://www.reviewlagoon.com/?p=810
I'll update that as soon as someone comes up with a solution.
Using a 16gb flash drive. The only reason I haven't tried anything bigger is because I don't have it
It runs everything just fine though. Through nmi.

I'm afraid it's a little complicated with 4.2. Google have made some changes for the multi-user stuff and now even if you mount a device manually it seems you can't access the files from a file explorer.
I have spent a good while playing with it so far and it's refusing to allow me to chown and chmod the directories so for now, I can't get it working.
From what I have read, Chainfire has a solution but it won't be available via his StickMount app until he is done updating his paid apps.

Nope, I didn't say that at all.
I believe NMI still works, but it uses an alternative method.
The reason is probably works is because the memory card space is restricted by process, so since NMI mounts the drive, it can also read it. If my file manager could mount the drive, it could read it. But instead if I mount it in terminal, it sees a different virtual folder compared to es file explorer.
Basically each app gets given its own rose tinted view of the file system,it can only see and write things that belong to it.

No apology necessary, bare in mind nexus media importer will only do certain file types, full usb OTG is off the cards until the permissions stuff from 4.2 gets sorted out.

Sorry, I'm forgetting the topic of the thread. For multimedia NMI will work no problem, you just can't use it (I'm told) for managing your other files, that is, ones that aren't classed as media.

I've had no problems playing any videos. Mostly because I have MXPlayer, BSPlayer, and VLC Beta; so if one can't play a file the next one surely can.
The only problem is DTS codec not working, but it seems I've figured out that problem with VLC. Good luck!

So when that directory of the video files pop up upon connecting the external storage as in your video, you can choose which player to play them with? Can you play the files FROM the external storage just as smooth?

How to Stream playlists/music etc.. ?

So I will be recieving this beauty Next week and I was looking around but cant seem to find the answer.

I don't know how enamored/entrenched with iTunes you are, but once i entered the android world, I moved my music over to google music. It can be streamed or downloaded to your devices via Google's music app.

Google music will automatically import all your iTunes / wmv music and auto sync from that point forward.

Yes, though you'll need to sign up with a US proxy (just for the signup, after that you don't need to worry about it).
Also, download Skifta or some other DNLA app and you can stream shared music and movies from your network (WinXP/Vista/7/8 machines, XBox360, PS3, and more support DNLA).
EDIT: See you have an S2X...Samsung calls their DNLA client for their phones and tablets AllShare, if you've used that, Skifta does pretty much the same thing.

My only concern with Google Music is there is no offline player. If your net connection goes you loose the ability to play your music.
OK you could just navigate to the folders and play them as they are, or use something like iTunes but it kinda defeats the point

Think you missed the point. I was specifically talking about desktop support where the local hard copies of your music are stored
I don't see why it is a problem that you can play your music with any application that you would like to.
I'm confused why your desktop is even in the discussion. Google Music will let you stream music to your tablet or phone without any interaction with your desktop. You can continue to use your desktop as you do now.
If you want something that streams directly from your desktop then look into Subsonic.

[Q] Best / easiest way to manage/sync music to N4?

What is the most seamless way to sync music files to my internal storage beyond the Play Music app? Ideally it would be an app / program that would let me do it over wifi.
For reference, I would prefer it to be compatible with a macbook.

Seeing as you're a mac user, I'm assuming you use itunes. If so, try this out:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wxLDEwMiwiY29tLmpydHN0dWRpby5pU3luY3I0TWFjIl0.
I use media monkey to organize all my music files. Then I upload it to Google music and it just shows on my phone without taking any space. Its worth doing specially if you plan on flashing Roms and wiping your data often. Google music give it a try. You can manage it online too

Another vote for iSyncr. Works great over wifi with my Mac and iTunes. I've used it through 2 or 3 phones at this point, and never had a problem with it. It will also backup pics/vids from your phone to your computer.
Ok, thanks for the input. I'll check out iSyncr - I'd used it a while ago on my Droid X but it looks like it's gotten a lot of new features since then.
And to clarify, I do use Google Music, I just really don't like the app, so I figured I can use another player for local files and then use the google music app if i want to listen to anything not store locally.
