[Q] can i9500 support 4G later?! - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hear that the Galaxy S4 i9500 which will be available in Korea will be support 4G and type of CPU is Octa same as international S4 CPU. but the modem is different.
My question: if it possible to change the modem by the developer later to make the international S4 support 4G ?!
Regards,

As far as I (and most others) know the modem in the i9500 does NOT support LTE/4G and it cannot simply be enabled.

If the modem change from international S4 to Korea S4 Modem or If the rom change to Korea version
any chance the 4G to work.

No 4G CANNOT work with I9500 because the modem can't support it. Changing ROM or kernel won't help.

So, the Exynos version would work in the UK? :silly:
Where would I be able to buy it? :victory:
Sammobile initial country wide list showed that UK is getting both variants. Is that changed totally now?

I think your right,
Sammobile say that UK will get:
GT-I9500 / GT-I9505 – United Kingdom
BUT... It does mention that the first Samsung Galaxy S4 Devices will be shipped with the Snapdragon 600 Processor...
hmm

SGS4 model numbers? kinda confusing!

Can somebody clear up the model SGS4 numbers we see being mentioned in various threads?
I see i9505 and i9500 and I assume that is the U.S. and non-U.S. versions, or Exynos 8-core and Qualcomm 4-core models, respectively.
I am also seeing model numbers such as SGH-M919, which is my U.S. T-Mobile SG4 (16GB, black) model number.
So, I am assuming that last model number I mentioned is a variant of the i9505, but I don't see that model number anywhere in my documentation.
Can some folks post their model numbers along with the phone carrier, size and color? maybe we can get a clearer picture of what these model numbers and model variants are.
Thanks!
Galaxy S4 I9500 (8-core) (Exynos octa version)
Galaxy S4 Duos I9502
Galaxy S4 I9505 (LTE) (Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 version)
Has anyone tried this method on I9505 MDM firmware? This is supposed to be un-rootable
EDIT::: OOOPS wrong thread

Okay, answering some of my own questions here. Here is a wiki showing the different model numbers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S4#Model_variants
I9505 is an International model number for LTE versions with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor
The following are U.S. models that are basically the I9505 with differences in software (ROM and enabled radios)
AT&T SGH-I337
T-Mobile SGH-M919
Verizon SCH-I545
Sprint SPH-L720
Some of these may be bootloader locked, so I guess that is important to know if looking to root. Most rooting info I have seen talks only about the I9505 or I9500 international model numbers.
Maybe someone could explain the MDE, MDN, and MDM variants of the I9505 model number?

Atrix 4g rooted w/ epinter cm10.1
Samsung galaxy s4 (MDM) rooted w/ official status.

I put my comment in the wrong thread LOL but what I mean is the MDM kernel ... I have MDM firmware but my kernel date is April 12 which is not MDM. The date of the MDM firmware + Kernel... should say 25/26th April...

Hi,
Mine is: SPH-L720

USCC is SCH-R970.

Korean versions are SHV-E300K, SHV-E300L and SHV-E300S for KT, LG and SK telcos respectively
So is it alright to use mods/roms as long as it is for the same cpu model?

If you have access and can buy 9500 and 9505 at the same price which would you get?
Which one is better between the two to get for the long run?

[Q] I9505 or SGH-i337

wanted to know is there any difference between
I9505 & SGH-i337 are they the same ?
can we use the same firmware for both ? same rooting or there is a difference ?

I guess they are the same except on LTE support the SGH-i337 works on LTE 700mhz but the I9505 works on LTE 800mhz
that's the only difference I can notice else both are the same
but i don't think the same firmware works on both because the LTE difference will require a modification in the firmware
the root i guess its all the same on both

N900 International (HSPA Only )to N900A (ATT LTE)

It it at all possible that the only difference between the HSPA only N900 and the carrier model N900a is baseband firmware?
Its not unheard of that both have identical modem hardware and would just need to be flashed with a different one.
Thanks in advance!
No. N900 is exynos and n900a is qualcomm lte on at&t

Not unless you can flash entirely new hardware...
You can't access LTE on the 3G only device, it doesn't have an LTE radio.
Are displays for both models compatible ? Can mother boards be swapped between them ?

how to enable LTE on Galaxy S4 i9500 Exynos 5 octa 5410

Hello, recently got an S4 international variant from a friend. I read this S4 variant does have LTE onboard and my friend mentioned a custom firmware could enable it. Should i be looking in the development forum for specifics like this or elsewhere? many thanks in advance for your guidance.
Im sorry to tell you that you read wrong, exynos variant i9500 does not have LTE onboard, snapdragon variants had..
Sorry pal

Only Qualcomm variants (GT-I9505) have LTE.
The Exynos version (GT-I9500) does not have LTE. Not even custom software csn enable it because the hardware does not support LTE networks.
Unless if your phone model is SHV-E300S/K/L (Korean variant), it's unsupported.

thanks for the replies guys. bummer i guess
