News of HTC One's baby cousin, the M4 have leaked to the press. They're talking about the style of the One, in a smaller package (4.3 inches) and lower specs:
I know 4.7 vs 4.3 inches doesn't sound like a big difference, but take a look at these mock-up images from Engadget.
My dream HTC = All the specifications of HTC One in a 4 to 4.3 inch body. The ease of one-handed use and pocketability makes up for the slight loss of browsing enjoyment of a smaller screen IMO. If you agree, or not, then answer the poll.

Coming from the iPhone 5, I can tell you I couldn't wait to get on this bigger screen. After awhile it just wasn't enough for me. 4.3" would be better, but IMO 4.7" is the ideal size for a phone.
Also, I don't see why HTC would produce something like this. It wouldn't be a huge difference in cost, especially if it's still the same aluminum unibody design.
There's no room in my life for any mobile phone smaller than 4.7"
Atm im using a 4.3" device... And its ok.. but when im holding a friends galaxy nexus with 4.65" i have to admit that 4.7" is about the right size.. and anything with 5" or more is nonsense to me.. just looks dumb when somebody is talking through his note for example...
Cheers

4.3" was good, but if I'm playing something like GTA Vice City, then I'm gonna want the bigger screen so I have more room for the on screen controls.
4.7" is about the sweet spot for me, although I could probably go up to 5" and not have a problem.

I'm with you. I'd kill for a smaller phone with high end specs and an ultra pixel camera. I think the m4 looks like it will be pretty sweet.

At the moment the poll is 75% for the bigger screen, so we're not winning
My logic is that when it comes to longer browsing / gaming sessions I grab my Nexus 7 / laptop, as they give a better experience, so I prefer to partner up a smaller phone with a mini-tablet.

Agree completely. Prefer for my phone NOT to be my primary consumption device but primarily a means of communication when I'm out and about, with the option of consuming if I get bored. While at home or work, nexus 7 or laptop is preferable.

I do enjoy playing games on watching video on the larger, but if the only difference was size and not specs......I'd totally go for the mini.

My ideal and perfect size would be the 4.7", it's neither too big nor small and would easily fit my hands (even though they aren't big) . As in my signature, I have two 4.7" and a 4", but for the overall feel, I prefer the 4.7" much more better. Anyway, IMO it's all depends on personal preference and usage.

It's bigger screens for me 4.7 is fine.. but lot of ppl would prefer the 4" factor.. the 4 inch stays in the hand easily.. HTC should have both
Is prefer 4.3 with high specs. I didn't want the one X because of the size of it (coming from my incredible s). The one just looks great though, so I can withstand the size.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk 2
My vote goes for 4.7. Not a fan of big phones but the One strikes the right balance for me, and my Desire HD feels very small and squat in comparison!
My ideal would be 5inch, even 5.5 inch in One design.
I am a big screen whore. Bigger the better as long as it fits in my pants pocket.
I was actually hoping that the One was going to have a 5" screen like the DNA / Butterfly. I want a phone with minimal borders around the screen.
5 Inch is the sweet spot. The HTC One feels a little small to me and the screen feels quite a bit smaller than my old Z.
For me, 5 would probably be the sweet spot. Before my One X, I had an iPhone 3GS. Moving from a small screen to the 4.7 was awesome... not to mention everything else that made it awesome. However, after a while I did find the screen on the One X to be a little too small for things like web browsing. I know people are saying to use a tablet or laptop for a better experience, but the reality is that I will still do a lot of browsing on my phone. So while the bigger screen on the One X was great, I think that little extra bit of space at 5 inches would have provided an even better experience, all while remaining small enough to fit well in pants.
My girlfriend has the Note 2, which I believe is 5.5 inches, and that certainly seems too big if you don't have a purse. The One X's 4.7 is a good size, but lacks just a little bit in the browsing experience category. So 5 could be my sweet spot.
I would like a 5" HTC One honestly!

Then there is sprints video too

check toward the last half of the pics...sorry cant post links
TheBiles you also thinking on switching over? I am seriously thinking about it. If only I had confirmation that the development would be as big as the Evo's then I am sold! Thats the only thing holding me back
The Evo looks sexier though. Epic looks sort of one of those generic qwerty slider phones :/

I like the rounded look of the Epic more and that the buttons are less noticeable. Evo kind of looks like a mini tablet wanna-be.
The EVO is sexy.... but it's very simple in its design. The screen takes up almost the entire front face. And the back is nice and soft
I can't believe that .3" makes that big of a difference...
Oh and the Epic fails for wasting so much space just to put "samsung" below the screen. Ugh.

I agree, .3" can't be a "game changer". Plus it is Super AMOLED Hmmmmmmmm
Well what i meant was that even though the EVO is only .3" bigger, the screen just looks massive next to the Epic's. I'm puzzled by this...

That's because screen size is area, when you increase the size you increase the area by a square. For example if the screen was 100% square, just to make the math simpler, and was 3.7" diagonally, it would have an area of 13.69 sq in. 4" diagonally is 16 sq in. 4.3" is 18.49 sq in. The difference in size gain there is small but noticeable. If you compare a 30" and 30.3" screen you would find a screen size difference of 18.09 sq in. While the diff between 4" and 4.3" is only 2.49 sq in. This new large screen size of 4.3" is proportionally the biggest size gain, even larger than the difference between 3.7" and 4". It mainly makes such a large difference due to the size of the screen relative to the phone though. The samsung just has more open unused space on the front is all. That makes the difference appear more drastic too.
When you put it that way.... lol....
HTC was smart about creating a phone with 4.3" screen. Almost NOTHING is wasted. The Epic, however, has a lot of wasted space above and below the screen. I still think 4" is a nice size. I'm probably spoiled by my EVO.
Man... the Epic needs a friggin kickstand, lol. I'll miss that so much.

Not quite sure yet. I reserved one, but I don't have to pick it up. I don't really dig the rounded look of the Epic. It just looks so old-school. I'm also doubtful as to how much I would actually use the hardware keyboard, since I almost never use the landscape keyboard on the EVO. Maybe my opinion will change when I get my hands on one and test it out. The main appeals are the Hummingbird and Super AMOLED because they seem like huge battery savers.
Yeah the Samsung logo does waist some space..but thats cause HTC is only 3 letters...Samsung is 7 letters.... If they put samsung on top we wouldn't have our LED notifications and sensors there...

I think the curvy look of the Epic is sexy. It also looks like it would feel better in my hand (including feeling like I have a good grip on it). I absolutely hate the feel of a naked iPhone 3G. The sides aren't thick enough to feel stable in my hand. The new iPhones feel much better in that regard.

Yea I personally like thicker phones as well... you can hold them much better and have a better grip on them. There does become a point when something becomes too thin.. I currently have a vibrant and I feel its to thin for my hands...
I have an HTC Inspire. I love the size of the screen and under normal circumstances am never unhappy with the picture quality. Until I use my buddys iPhone 4. No matter how much time has passed, everytime I pick up the IPhone it makes me feel bad about the quality of my screen.
Well the reason I am posting this here is because I have been patiently waiting for the sgs2 to come out here in America so that I can finally have a device with all the specs that I want. Most importantly the screen. I have never actually seen a Super Amoled Plus screen so I was hoping to get some insight.
I know the iPhone actually has a higher resolution, but the sub pixel density on the new Amoled Plus screens is higher. I just like the overal pop of the amoled screens in general and think it looks better than traditional displays. Can anyone who owns both devices give an honest opinion of which they think looks better quality wise.
It would be great to grab my buddys phone someday and say "meh, looks ok".

I just came from an iphone 4, and while the screen was my favorite thing about the iphone, i have had absolutely no regrets after switching the sgs2. Actually, i think the retina display is crap compared to the amoled. The colors are so much crisper and holding the screen a foot away from eyes will get you pretty close to the retina display effect.

I don't have an iPhone 4 myself, but here in Singapore enough people own them (90% of the population uses an iPhone 4 according to surveys), so I have plenty of contact with them. For me, the SAMOLED+ just slightly edges out the iPhone's retina display. The colours are fantastic, but I do love the pixel density on the retina too.
That said, as far as memory serves the retina display is not slouch at colours too. You want bad? Try the iPhone 3GS. The colours were GODAWFUL on that one.
I just hope that we will get SAMOLED+ Retina on a future Samsung device. And that might not be that far away, if the rumors of a 4.5 inch 720p SAMOLED+ is true.
I came from the iPhone 4. I will say that the retina display is insane. Looking at HQ photos and video you cannot see one single pixel. SGS II comes close but you can spot pixels if you look close enough. It is very crisp and clear though and the brightness and color density more than makes up for it

At first I thought it was a giganta-phone. But having been a phone owner since 1991 (when they used to cost real money), I must say the Note cleverly nudges the envelope.
My other smartphones look like wee toys.

Now a 6" android phone? With a Dual/Quad SoC with oled/amoled screen? YES SIR!

I don't think so. It would kill pocketability. You can squeeze in a little more by killing all the hardware buttons, but this is close to the limit.
The pocketability is great now, but we haven't had people putting cases on yet. Bigger+CASE? Ugh.

Well I respect your opinion but for me it's different.
I measured my usual pockets(costumes/jeans) and they are 19cm deep(Jeans) and 17cm(costumes pants) when sitting. So I can staff in there any phone below the above sizes before it's top/bottom emerges.
Oh and both pocket's are abount 12cm wide.
Yeah, we all have many different clothes that it will not fit(maybe same goes for GNote) but making a statement here.
So a 6" GNote look alike phone based on my measurements consisting of H:160mm x W: 92-94mm is really the actual maximum size of pocketability for me.
BUT: Practical? Manageable? Easy to use? Good for a bit of longer than usual calling etc, etc? Nuh, I don't think so.
But then again.. I don't call/speak on the phone much!
Edit: It's not THAT bigger!

wouldn't mind a 5.3" but that's reserved for the note
Hmmm they say "come meet the new galaxy" is this the sgsIII or the new nexus either or I can't wait to get my hands on one... 4.6" is a lil excessive but as we can tell by the note here comes the year of the phablet.. even so I say bring it on!!!!

I hope Samsung will release also some info about support of Android versions for this model.
Many people are mad with them for SGS(+) and Ice Cream Sandwich
I don't really care what size the screen is or how many gigaflops it's millions of cores can produce, just don't make it look like crap or make it out of something that creaks if you even glance at it.
Truth is that I will not replace my i9000 to S3 until S3 will be made differently I mean like steel all around (including screen frame) with carbon fiber battery cover, if it is going to be better - it should be better in every single way not just specs. I use my i9000 like an egg and it already have scratches on frame close to usb input and back cover because of my nail. No scratches on screen but i have tiny little dot on glass i do not know how it got there. Samsung was going with galaxy series very well - time to make a quad core tank with lifetime usage possibilities.

and what i want is to charge it up while using HDMI or OTG with USB-hub or dock station, with NTFS 64GB microsd for files bigger than 4GB

So your main criterion for choosing a phone is how it looks?
I've been waiting for this... Will it be the one for real?
surely will have great spec, but just wondering if it's worth its size??? not sure if will replace my SGS (one) or simply buy a tablet to meet my need for internet browsing while on the move... and hope the battery will last for 24hrs of normal usage (two emails/calendars sync on, various apps, internet etc) without looking for power outlet mid-day. My SGS hardly last for one day on one charging...
You could fit a 4.6" screen on a phone around the size of the i9000 if you ditched hard keys and had the screen almost edge-to-edge. I won't buy a phone you need to wear on your belt.e
What's the story with new phones coming in at 4.6"+ displays?
I would think the original galaxy S at 4'' was superb fit for pocket and portability. Increase that to 320ppi with a superamoled HD display and voila we have new SGSIII.
I can't see why they going for such big displays. I even have the 4.3"" HD2 and that's the max I would see for a phone.
There will be disappointment and exhilaration with this release. Either way I am buying this regardless....
EDIT: I am hoping for Wolfson DAC in the audio output. It must have this dac..
See you all in the SGS3 forums on XDA

Not at all, we all know this thing is going to be a beast of a phone, so I have no worries about it's performance, but I want something that doesn't look like it was designed by an art student trying to be "edgy"
But it is getting to the point now where they will all be more powerful than any of us realistically need for the near future, so the look (OLED vs TFT is becoming more of a non-issue) is the only real thing that's going to differentiate them. I don't like the HTC aesthetic, it's just boring to me, Sony have gone all bling again and others like Motorola just seem to design their phones for corporate boardrooms.
Samsung just seem stuck trying to refine the "not iPhone" shape of the SGS 1 in Europe, and it's getting a little boring, time for something new. And it will probably save them a few quid if Apple can't keep suing them because of a physical home button.

i want my voodoo sound too!
Wow.
Just so disappointing.
Larger than two different 5.7" phones.
LMAO, the 5.5" Pixel XL vs. the 6 INCH Huewaiauaia (sp?).

It works for Apple so a presume Google though... What a heck

The bezels are ridiculously big!
Why is there a space at the bottom. There are no buttons or speaker. And what's up with the all white front with a color back. This must be Google's attempt to copy the Iphone design. These Pixel phones are ugly.
really daft to copy iphone in every aspect including pricing!!!!
What does this phone offer over iphone 7 plus!
should be priced around £650 for 128gb version at most.

Because it's using a (very slightly tweaked) HTC A9 body...minus the button.

I just think it's funny because the A9 was a huge flop.

Lmao. Me and my friends call the company Hawaii ^^
It's pretty ridiculous that the bezels are this huge with a mono down facing speaker. Even the headphone jack is on the top, there's nothing that can explain the size of the bottom bezel...
The space at the bottom is annoying put something there or shorten the phone.
It is a minor annoyance
It's smaller than an iPhone 6/S/7 Plus, at least. It's shorter and less wide than the Plus, but it's taller and wider than the Note 7. Much closer to the Note 7 than the Plus, though. Thicker than both, but it's honestly such a non-issue with phones these days being absurdly thin already.
The huge chin just looks so out of place. They could have used capacitive buttons or something. Atleast THEN there would be a reason for such a huge chin, and also save us some screen real estate.
for that price, id rather get the iphone 7 plus
the design, the splintering of software features between pixel devices and non-pixel devices, the price ....it's enough to make me consider switching to iPhone if they stay in this direction

Yea, they're very similar.
They are big bezels but they're not exactly hollow. It does allow a bit more space for the battery by moving components forwards and if you don't like that, it's a place to rest your thumb whilst you're reading
According to multiple sources its everything we wanted in a google phone so of course people don't like it.
IMO its awesome IMO who really cares about bezels probably how they got a bigger battery in a nexus / google phone if oyu got the XL at least. With google its all about the software in the phones and the internals. Plus IMO people just mad b/c it looks like a dump iphone who gives a ****. IMO specs beat the iPhone 7 plus so does the price.
People just like complaining because its what they want finally just probably can't get it b/c of price. Well you need a job to get things you want. =)
Also HTC makes awesome phones like the htc m8 and we know how awesome their aluminum is on phones. So we should be glad its not a plastic POS like some other phones. And IMO glass makes it more durable but it is for the antennas thats why upper half on back is glass.
Sorry for vulgarness, just had to put this put there. Btw who cares if it looks like an iphone most people like iphones look.
