Will the i9505x ever be a fully fuctioning phone? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Unlike people in here that say that there is no sim slot, there is but it doesnt read the sim card. Will it be able to be a real phone ever?

So you stole the DEMO version of the phone and trying to use it like a normal one?
The answer to your question is 99.9% no.

Yes dude, i stole it. It was sent to me by samsung at a price of 0.01€ to put in the front of my mobiles shop. I was asking purely on a developing angle.

No.... you will need sammy to install what they need to.
Why would they let demonunits be so cheao and give the opp to easily make them work . Ppl would get them left right and cente like you and start using them as real units. And potentially selling on for profits.
You dont need a working model to dev for im sure....

Spoof Phone on T-Mobile website

If I edit build.prop will it change the phone reported on T-Mobile's website?
If so, what are the non market related adverse effects of this edit? I wanna spoof MT4GS, thanks.
You can simply choose 'not my phone' and pick any phone you want. What are you trying to accomplish?

If you do this they'll reping and get the correct phone model. I don't just want the MT4GS to DISPLAY, I want T-Mobile to think I'm actually using it.
I bought the N4 from Google Play and I kind of don't want them to know I have it.
You kinda can't since T-Mobile just gets that information from your IMEI which is hardcoded in your phone. Each time you make a phone call or connect to the network in anyway your IMEI is sent (along with your SIM IMSI) to authenticate you to the network.
As such they've made tampering with IMEIs illegal as well

I bought my N$ from Google Play, should my IMEI even register?
I've been using it for about a day and the phone hasn't changed on the site yet, I may be in luck.
I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking this so I'll go ahead and say it.
This thread makes no sense. Why don't you want t mobile to know what phone you use?
You can't spoof another phone unless you change the imei which isn't legal. Editing the build.prop will probably only cause issues with the play store.

Seriously? Why does it matter if T-Mobile knows what kind of phone you have?
And T-Mobile sells the N4. It doesn't matter where you bought it, they know what the IMEI pulls up as.

I too would like to know why it matters what phone they think you have.
At&t knows I'm using an N4 based on the IMEI, and they don't sell it, so unless you're willing to possibly destroy your phone/spend some time in jail, I would just forget about it.

I don't understand this thread either, I was literally in my local T-Mobile store not more than an hour ago, told the rep I was purchasing an N4 from Google (its 200$ cheaper than t-mo wants for month-to-month contract price) and he gave me instructions on how to activate it with their monthly 4g plan. why would they care where you got it?

It was just a joke, the phone is actually damaged (cracked screen and kb double presses buttons) this is why I got the N4.
When I called Asurion they told me they no longer carry the phone and tried to give me a G2 (which I already own), I then got some documents in the mail showing that the N4 is now in my device bracket, so I want to raise hell and trade it in.
...and even if I did want to commit fraud it's no ones business but mine. What is this? The moral police forum? Why is everyone sweating the details instead of helping me with my inquiry? This is the most hostile (though it IS at a minimum) group of posts I've encountered since 2007! lol

Your not going to be able to trick t mobile into thinking your phone is anything other than what it is. If your intent is to swap out an older phone through insurance your going to have to actually use the phone you want to claim so that t mobile can inform assurion or whoever of when the phone was last used. Your device sends a lot of info to its carrier every time you use it and editing a build.prop or whatever will not change that.

Not that I agree with what you are doing, but how was anybody supposed to come to this conclusion based on what you submitted in the OP?
Secondly, whether you have a secondary phone or not (N4) has absolutely no bearing on your ability to file for insurance for. Especially considering you purchased the phone at full value without a contract from a non-carrier vendor.

Having a secondary phone does not matter but when making a claim on the insured device they have to be able to verify that the damage occured within the last 30 days. If the phone has not been used in over 30 days they can deny the claim.

Stolen N4 - Who blocks IMEI?

Hi folks.
I feel stupid (and angry) as hell right now. The worst part is that I can't even explain how it happened. I'm the most careful person in the world with my phone, and haven't lost a smartphone in, like, a decade, but I believe I have just had my N4 stolen from me. I had it, then I put it in my pocket, stood up for 10 minutes, then it was gone, and, of course, immediately switched off. All my careful planning is null and void; once it's stolen / off, there's very little that pintail, plan b, lookout etc can do. (?)
Anyway, I just need to know where and how I get the IMEI blocked? It was bought directly from Google, not via a carrier. Does anyone know?
Thanks. I'm off to dust off my credit card, and try to replace my baby
I would think talking to your carrier would be a good idea since they have access to block imei's. Even if they can't they are best able to point you in the right direction.

Badass. But just tell Google. They can block it from T-Mobile and AT&T. I think straight talk too. Emails take along while but they do get back to you. I would put flyers up near where it was stolen that say the phone has been deactivated and will not work on any carrier. If it is returned to you there will be no questions asked ( maybe even lie about a reward) see what happens. You can say my number is on the lock screen or call this number in the contacts. Maybe they will just return it to lost and found or something. Could be it died and you just left it somewhere and someone picked it up to give it to lost and found?

How much of a fake reward would be required for a thief to return a phone? $100 bucks? Not worth incriminating myself. $200 bucks? Then my BS detector goes off because you are approaching the price of purchasing a new one.

There was literally ten or fifteen minutes between me sitting at the table in the bar using my phone, and it being switched off when I asked my girlfriend to call it. I guess I was pickpocketed when I went outside for a smoke. Sucks, but this is what credit is for, I guess. I'd only just paid off my card

The phone was stolen and switched off within ten to fifteen minutes of the last time I had it in my hand. Pretty tough to install Plan B in those circumstances I have various apps for locating it, as well as a number of Tasker scripts to locate, erase, etc. but they are all pretty much worthless the minute the thief has switched off the phone.
--
I have tracked down the phone number for US Google Device Support , which I have called and they appear to have it in hand, although they have had to escalate my call to a specialist as they were not sure if they could block the IMEI.
Thanks all for taking the time to reply. My new phone has been ordered and should be here in a few days. Everything's backed up to Dropbox, so I'm only down a bit of money and some inconvenience. It could be worse.

Yeah, at least you weren't hurt in the incident. It sucks to have your stuff stolen (I had a phone stolen about 2 years ago in a mugging) but at the end of the day we move on and don't let it get us down. I've found that I'm now much more cautious with my electronics in public, which I guess is a good thing.
Hello there, sorry to hear about your situation. I actually JUST lost my Nexus 4 this past weekend as well. Were you able to get a resolution from the Google team regarding the block on the IMEI? Yes I this there is a notification telling that device "is found" ... but you can't prevent anybody from flashing a new firmware.
On your box there should be an IMEI number (or on your receipt) and IMEI is a bit more difficult to change so maybe you have a chance to trace it in some other way.

So IMEI tracking is your last chance.

[Q] China S4 clone

I have a china s4 clone that won't connect to the mobile network for more than a couple of seconds. What tells me that it's not a hardware fault (antenna) is that it does connect for a few seconds at 3 bars but continuously cycles between signal / no signal / airplane mode. I have bought heaps of phones from china, i'm not sure what to make of this. I have rebooted and even done a factory reset. I have an old virgin sim in it (5 years old) and it seems to find the optus network fine and put in the relevant APN. I have even changed the APN to virgin specific stats. (it had a lot of issues with old data on the sim such as logs/sms, deleted them when in my old phone and now it's fine and doesn't bother me with the input tag message.) I could go get my newer sim cut down to fit but I thought I would ask in xda first.
it also keeps saying restricted access changed in the top bar when it does this cycling, another reason i think the antenna is fine. this is really depressing me.
i'm thinking it is a problem with the sim, if the newer sim works i'll post here and let the next person with this issue know

The point is, the only people who are going to be able to give you anything remotely resembling help are the people who bought the same device as you, which will be obviously based on their experiences with the device. 99.9999% of people who read/post here have genuine Samsung devices, and are going to be giving you questionable guesses at best.

The point is, the only people who are going to be able to give you anything remotely resembling help are the people who bought the same device as you, which will be obviously based on their experiences with the device. 99.9999% of people who read/post here have genuine Samsung devices, and are going to be giving you questionable guesses at best.

the more guesses the better i mean, i've heard reports of people having very similar issues with genuine s4's actually. things like, sim card not making proper contact and also the "IMEI" was not on the telco's whitelist (apparently a blacklist isn't secure enough for them). I am very patient and i've had loads of help on XDA with china phones. the only thing i don't need is condescending asses that think they are better than everybody because they can afford to spend hundreds on "brands".

S4 Clons are so different from original s4 as HTC one from LG G2 is... So why did you choose this forum instead HTC one forum or a Nokia forum?
Anyway, if you are really sure your issue is the same issue as some original s4, i would suggest to open a new thread explaining again your problem and this time don't write you have a s4 clon. People will give you ads thinking it is a original s4, and if you were right you will not brick your clon if anyone suggest you something incompatible to your clon. But consider this: if you brick your phone because doing anything compatible to our S4 but not to your clon, you will be the only responsible.

Actually, you completely missed my point OP (as I expected you would). My point was, why should anyone fumble around & waste their time helping you when you're dopey enough to buy a knockoff device you obviously have no clue how to troubleshoot if something goes wrong ?
I haven't & won't.
Because there are enough people who do the right thing & buy genuine devices to help here without helping bozos who buy devices from 'manufacturers' (term used loosely) who break god knows what international trade laws & violate who knows how many patents by making these things.
That was my point.
Your point about the cost of genuine devices was bull****. Plenty of manufacturers make great devices with tons of features at price points well below the S4/other similar devices.

I think you completely missed my point, which i thought you would. I bought the phone because it was the best android phone I could find for the price, not because I wanted an S4, which I don't.
and I will say it again, this thread has been moved here by a mod so don't ask me why I posted here because I didn't.
It clearly isn't the best android phone for it's price if you can't connect to a mobile network mate.
Chinese phones have a lot of issues, the build quality and QC is bad and cheap.
I'd just go and buy a second hand S3 or S2, that's probably the same price and would be miles better.

this is the problem with XDA. somebody doesn't know the answer to the question but they just have to give their opinion about something nobody asked for on a subject completely irrelevant. Did I ask for the best alternative phone? Did I ask for an opinion on chinese QC? If you don't have anything to contribute to fix a problem as described, with the phone as described, in the OP, then don't reply.

You would be right if this thread would be posted in his corresponding device forum, but it doesn't. People here knows a lot of issues for their s4 device, but not necessarily for other devices as s2, lg, Nokia, unbranded as yours..., and if they knew, they would answer to move it to the correct s2, lg, Nokia or unbranded devices forums before giving a possible solution. Yes, we don't know how to solve your issue, mainly because we have never touched your model device, as neither we wouldn't know how to solve same issue for a, for example, htc one, because we don't have got a htc one...
Where did you originally posted it? Search the correct forum for your brand (generic devices, other devices, unbranded devices, Chinese devices...) and post it there, and if you don't find it in xda, you will have to search for it in other forum platform if you really want anyone help you...

And here you are over a week later sans help. Hate to say I told you so (you bought up the cost of genuine handsets in the first instance BTW, not me)
Some users want help from people but keep giving back hands to "xda members"
I remember an ex user over on dhd that eventually got band because of abusing the very people he so desperately needed help from.

Some people dont like being told the truth. This thread has been cleaned up already because the OP descended into posting abuse, and accused everyone with an s4 that they were fools for buying a "proper" s4.
His justification was that he cant afford a proper s4.He has already been told xda doesnt support clones, and in life you get what you pay for.
One good thing to come out of this is he shouldnt have any current or future problems with knox!

descend? really? lol. And what does it matter where I originally posted when it was moved here by a mod. I'm assuming the mod knows better than me and actually took the time to read what the post was about before he moved it so HE thinks it's in the best place. nuff said. Also I could give advice on any brand of phone, and any operating system on any machine. the amount of knowledge would differ depending on the subject. Believe it or not you may be completely stumped at non s4 questions but there may be people like me who wouldn't be. The firmware seems to be "heavily inspired" by an S4 as well so S4 knowledge could be quite relevant if the problem is firmware based.

Ok, you win, if you are right and it is true your firmware is "heavily inspired" by an S4, here is the solution for your issue any of us would apply:
- download last firmware update from here and loaf of into odin: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9500&pcode=0#firmware
- enter in download mode (if you are able to...), by pressing pwr+home+vol- (our s4 enter here successfully... Does your "s4" enter?
- flash and enjoy your bricked s4 (our s4 will not brick applying it)

Lol it's a forum mate, people can say what they like (within reason) and I was actually giving you good advice. No need to be rude.
A genuine second hand S2 is a lot better than a clone S4, simple. Not my fault you've bought a piece of rubbish and now can't fix it.
No idea why a mod moved this question here, it's as good here as it is in a Sony Experia thread. The firmware on your phone isn't based on TW at all, it is just made to look like TW.
Try this thread:

You'll prob get more help there (if you remember your manners)

I wouldn't end that statement with "sorry". If he just bought it like that, he's not going to be the least bit disappointed with having to reset it in order to make it work. Just being able to make it work is all he's after. I'm sure he's ecstatic to know that he can

Well, I figured he was looking for the easy way but that's not what he's going to get short of knowing the person's email and password so the only way is to Odin the stock roms so your right sorry shouldn't have ended my statement however it did because it's not what he wanted to hear I'm sure.

I may be a bit biased because I've rootedand customized phones since the D1, when it was MUCH harder than it it currently. But I have always found ODIN very easy to use. In reality, I'm sure the OP could look up a video on youtube on how to use ODIN and get his phone working in like 20 min (minus download/setup times for ODIN, ROM, etc.). And I'm sure he saved a bundle buying it like that. He just needs to pray it's not IMEI locked on top of it, or all that effort will have been wasted

We'd prefer that you not. Phones with locked IMEI's are that way for a reason, and we don't want the activities on this forum getting us into legal trouble. Thanks for your understanding.
