Screen battery drain

I'm curious if anyone else is having an insane battery drain just from Using the screen. this is my first Android device after switching from an iPhone so I'm not sure if it's normal but with auto brightness I still get 60-80 percent battery drain. I have a Us AT&T version of the S4.
Having a 5 inch 1080p screen will be the biggest battery drainer on the phone currently im getting 3-4 hour screen on time which imo is amazing

If you're looking in the battery stats then yes, the screen always consumes the most battery out of everything.
Its when an app consumes more battery then your screen you've got some problems.
Its really not insane battery drain, its normal if your screen is on all the time. think of a laptop that s not plugged in it will go for days or hours sitting closed with the screen off but still on but with the screen on it draws a lot of power and your battery life soon goes down to 4 hours.
The percentage it is telling you is also misinterpreted. Its not telling you that 60%-80% of your battery is consumed by the screen
Basically if your battery is at 80% and its saying 80% of the battery is used by the screen its telling you that so far out of the 20% currently used of the battery 80% was by the screen and 2% by facebook and 6% by browser ect.

Screens have always been the biggest drain on a mobile device (laptops included). If you want to minimize this (even though it is absolutely normal) you can try going to the Power Saver settings and enabling the "use low power Screen" or something along those lines. I've set that on mine, noticed a bit of a life increase, haven't seen any difference in the screen... so seems like a win-win situation.

[Q] Terrible battery life with screen on

My GT-I9505 has always had a very poor battery life. However, thanks to Greenify and Amplify I managed to reduce the battery drain during deep sleep almost entirely. However, I noticed huge battery drain when the screen is on, it takes half of the battery and just for less than 2 hours of screen on! The brightness is set to minimum, I use Slimkat's Dark UI which it should help the AMOLED screen, but these battery drops keeps staying (even with other ROMs i have the same battery drain)... A friend of mine has got a Galaxy S5 and its battery is absolutely brilliant, screen takes only 20% in the battery stats and he uses it far more than me... Is this a normal attitude on the S4?

The S5 does have a bigger battery (bigger in terms of mAh). It also depends on the age of the battery. If the phone is new (therefor has a new battery) it obviously lasts longer. It also depends on what you are doing when the screen is on. Do you play games or what?
I usually read on my S4 and it does not drain so much as to go from 100% to 50% in 2 hours. But I'm running lollipop. I've never had any other rom beside original firmware and lollipop gpe.
Check your settings and governor.

Hi mate
Use an app like BBS let it run when the screen is on to really see what is keeping the phone awake

[Q] Interpreting Android Wear's Battery Useage Chart

I have an LG Urbane paired to my Verizon Note 3.
I'm running Android Wear app version 1.1.1.1901499
Any thoughts on how I should interpret this chart from the Android Wear App on my phone?
It looks like it's saying from my last full charge I have used 61% of my power. 7% while the watch was idle, 4% to light the screen, 3% for Android Wear, and 1% for Fit.
What about the other 46%? Where did that go?

Edit: Apologies, I've misread your post.
7% of the 61% power used was expended while the watch was idle; 4% of the 61% used was to power the display; etc.

Poor batter life

I changed from Note 3 to s 6 edge plus recently
The battery drops 5% per hour overnight when not in use. If I go to bed with less than 40% battery at night I am sure to wake up with my phone switched off in the morning.
When in use with screen on, the battery drips one percent every two minutes. This is the worst battery life I have ever seen in a phone. I was a long loyal customer of samsung and this is my last samsung phone ever.
Extremely disappointed
Please post your battery stats ? so we can have a better understanding of your problem. I suggest you install 'Doze' which should stop unnecessary apps from connecting to the internet and causing your phone to awake from deep sleep.
Dear Akbar 11
Heres the battery stats....is it normal?
I had the same issue, and as far as I managed to find out, it is a bug in Samsung's kernel. Flashing Arter97 kernel solved the issue for, but do post battery stats from SmartManager. If it says 'Android' or 'Android OS', then you have the same problem many of us do.
I don't think it's a kernel problem. My android OS is very low 4%. Like zoolok said post your battery stats from settings, battery, battery usage
I have the same problem. Battery was great before I flash custom rom. After going back to stock I have big battery draining. I must stay on custom rom. With Audax rom and Skyhigh kernel i have great battery life.
You have either messed up something big or you have an app in the background that is eating up your battery like no tomorrow.
And the reason i say that is because i recently got this battery life on my Galaxy S6 edge+.
And this was taken 2 days ago.
Here i use the CRISSCROSS ROM, AudaxPro Kernel, Greeinify and Samsung's own 'Appoptimizing' feature (same as Doze in Android 6.0).
So my battery life is pretty awesome.
i have problem whit battery lose 25% when i sleep
This is a usual day with s6 edge plus
Any help?

i have this problem battery ... if u fixed it tell me how?
Well I was expecting Google Play Services to be eating your battery (which is quite common) but it looks like your Andriod OS is eating the most battery. I would uninstall Facebook and use the web version it always helps with the ram and battery furthermore, turn off location if you are not using it and check accounts which are being synced. These are the only tips I can give you as I have never seen Android OS drain so much battery.
Since a few days Google Play Store is eating up my battery: I go to sleep with 100% batt and wake up with 50%, if I check batt stats on top I have play store at 45%, with 5h active a d 2h of CPU.
Follows Android system at 5%.
Going crazy why...

You've charged your phone 4 times during that day. I can't see what's the interesting part here.

Does marshmallow firmware solve the cell standby battery drain?

Hi all
currently still using lollipop and wondering if its worth instally marshmallow. is the battery life better and have less battery drain then on lollipop?
Thanks
DOSE does help to extend the battery life of the Note 4, when it's not being used and is still powered on.
Forgjve me for asking but are you joking or do you mean that the cell standby usage drops with marshmallow compared to lollipop? Im looking for any possible ways to get thjs reduced. My cell standby percentage is almost 30 and 40%
Hello: In my particular case, before in 5.1 i have 1% per hour of battery drain, now with Marshmallow i have 3 % EVEN with Doze per hour, so in my case make worse my cell phone and with more lag.
So in my case again. I don't recommend you upgrade your phone.
But Cell Standby with Lollipop is terrible....its using so much battery!
Does marshmallow help to get rid of cell standby?
Anyone?
after last update i have heavy cell standy usage. I want to sell my note 4 and go for s7 edge
