As the topic states I have decided to come back to android (last android phone was G1 until Jan this year when I jumped ship to 3gs), don't get me wrong the iPhone is an excellent piece of kit but I'm a big geek at heart and loved messing round with android and all of it's customizability. Decided to cancel my order for my sim free iPhone 4 and sell my 3gs in favor of this new beast of an android phone. Managed to get it brand new on ebay for £380 (373+7 del).
How is everyone else enjoying their's so far?
Excellent. Welcome home.
best investment for years!
love this phone and it's so much fun...
I'm a total geek, too. Running SSH, FTP and even and webserver ON A PHONE just rules! ;-)
good choice!
A HTC fan for many years, I thought i'd give the Galaxy a whirl. Im very fussy about what I need like, document editors, good music player and plenty of memory. I was also abit bored with my HD2. I must say I think the Galaxy is the most comprehensive, feature packed phone I have ever had and it just works. I Love it

Almost the same here
and wow this phone is def. better than the Hd2 in many ways
Had an HTC/Google nexus before, i liked it, but it wasn't "it".
The 2X1D touch panel was getting on my nerves, and the device was lacking a bit in the graphics power department.
Then came along the SGS, i sold my nexus and got a galaxy in a flash.
Stronger processor, monsterously-powerful GPU (The famed SGX540), better battery time, and i can actually see what's on the screen in the sun.
I'm having loads of fun with it, the 4" screen is pretty perfect- doesn't make the device too big, but it's still huge and fun to watch episodes on/play games on.
Simply put, it has it all. Anything you can think of, is in there.
Glad to hear all these positive things about the phone, I imagine it will be even more incredible once froyo comes along.
This phone has the most comprehensive support for both audio and video codecs. It can practically play anything that you throw at it. Outstanding.
That GPU....good LORD!
Got the phone about 3 weeks ago and loving it. Got HD2 and love the big screen. WM was a drag and the screen was not AMOLED... so I changed next to Motorola Droid (my virgin switch to Android) which I loved so much but hate the small screen. When I saw the roadshow in Singapore to be the first in the world to own this phone, I quickly grab one. Am now very happy with the phone though still searching for a nice casing for it which is not yet available in Singapore. Everytime I ride the subway and watch videos on it, sure there are people around me taking a peek at this phone.... the display is gorgeous! Who needs 'retina' display and dropped calls? I still wonder whats the hype for Iphone all about... yes they have more apps, stuffs blah blah. I was once at a gathering over at a friends and all the guests had Iphone except me. One of them works for Apple and he was ecstatic and sorta ridiculed Samsung S. But I *****ed back ... "I am a trendsetter, not a follower! and specs is of importance to me! Anything Apple improved is called "innovation"?. And that 'face-chat' thing, whats that?? We have video calls for years over 3G network.... and theirs only work on WIFI and you need 2 Iphones to work. So where is the innovation?? And Steve Jobs say the phone antenna is an engineering marvel.... yup marvel I would say getting dropped signals!
Love my sgs, just try using launcher pro and it will blow ur mind

was using a iphone 3g previously. (heavily jailbreaked. bitesms, sbsettings, + other lots more cydia apps) was ready to "upgrade" to the iphone 4 till i was arguing with my girlfriend on the phone and i smashed it out of frustration. phone-less, i went out the next day in search of a replacement phone. i saw the galaxy s on display. i liked wat i saw, and still frustrated that i broke my iphone, i didnt want to buy another iphone, so i settled for an android. you can say it was an impulsive purchase for i only knew how powerful this phone is after i bought it.
outstanding 4" SUPER Amoled screen
1ghz hummingbird (i didnt know this processor is better than snapdragon)
512mb ram
16gb internal memory
plays streaming pr0n beautifully!
most important of all - IT RUNS ANDROID!
i love my girlfriend even more.
Excellent decision, this phone blows my mind, especially coming from an iPhone 3G, I love it, just waiting patiently for froyo Also as someone has mentioned, launcher pro has to be a day one download too!
I used to own one last year but sold it as it was locked and even when using the so called sim card. One day it would work and the next I would get no network...
It was not usable and sadly I had no choice to sell it...
At the time I paid around £300 for it as it was new at the time...
I was having a look on ebay the other day and saw quite a few of them for as cheap as £240, brand new sealed and unlocked.
To me this is a bargain for a 5'' phone having a beefy 1gb cpu, 512 ram and a 16gb memory card included...
I currently own the HTC Desire HD. I've had it for the last 4 months. While I'm happy with it, there are quite a few drawbacks.
The battery is ****, no matter what, it will last MAX 24 hours with minimal use.
there are times when the battery suddenly drops from 30% to under 20, then 10 and it cuts off.
Once the battery gets to 15% it will last no more than a few hours, WITHOUT any use at all.
It simply drops from 15% to zero in a matter of 2-3 hours and this is in standby.
Lastly the volume is extremely poor, when talking on the phone I can barely hear the other person and when looking at videos you cannot hear anything even at max volume...
Previously when I had my Dell Streak, battery was the best i've ever had from a large phone, once got 7 days out of it with minimum use, this was based on 12 hours standby per day and maybe a few mins use and no internet/videos...
This works out to be 3-4 days in a row, I think this is amazing considering the screen brightness was also on 70%
Some people say the Streak's battery is crap but I completely disagree...
With regards to screen/image quality I recon the Dell's screen and colour/black/gamma quality was a lot better than the HTC Desire HD.
Finally the Streaks's loudspeaker was quite loud. Call colume was loud and clear, videos/music playback was very good...
My MAIN 2 questions are:
1 - Is it worth getting a Streak and selling my HTC HD2 based on the above info?
2 - Some people say using Dell's stock 2.2 is slightly slow, sluggish and using a CUSTOM made rom is a lot smoother & faster.
Should this be the case, please could you name me the top 2-3 recommended roms to use on xda, different people have different opinions but I would like something basic, clean, reliable, smooth and close to the stock rom.
I am not bothered about the camera, video camera, main aspect of wanting the Streak is the shear large screen, excellent battery & looks/build quality.
Looking forward in hearing what other have to say.
Thanks in advance.
I got mine last week for £199 brand new sealed + unlocked from carphone warehouse on a clearance deal - sadly I think the deal is over now.
I think the battery is excellent, I'm a heavy user, the phone is always on with data and / or wifi and emails, twitter updates etc. and I could happily get 3 days out of it. I struggle to get 1 day from my Nexus S.
Most people (and they would be right) will point you to using Streakdroid 1.9 although I'm using the simple streak rom (it's in the dev section) which is seemingly a bit slower than Streakdroid but I really like it.
If you like the big screen and can live with a larger phone then I'd say it's great
You have already used streak before and looks like u r comfortable with the size.
I think u should go with streak.
There are not many roms to work with.
Currently
1. Lite rom - Stripped down version of stock and default orientation is portrait.
2.Stock
3.Streakdroid.
People are divided between these different roms.
U should try them and see what fits u the most.

wow, that's a wicked deal, giveaway price, wish I saw that offer, would of bought it on the spot...
I have no problem in living with a larger phone. It can just about fit in my jeans pocket...
Choosing a new rom isn't easy, I will look into it...
thanks for the reply.

I will probably go with a lite rom. I have many apps already bought and will copy the apk's of them over from my Desire HD over to the streak.
The lite rom is best for me since I want no extra junk/apps and will use my own ones.
Which lite roms would you suggest drgopoos?
Anything with minimal apps/addons would be better since it should run faster than another rom with lot's of unwanted and unneccesary addons...
On top of this it should be better with regards to battery life...
thanks once again.

How do you want to do the deal?
What guarantee is there that I will receive the item and what guarantee you will receive yours?
I do not know of any safe/guaranteed ways of doing this.

Hello.
I figured this would be a good place to get a few opinions. I currently own a EVO 3d and while it is a great phone, I feel like it wasn't that big of an upgrade. My main problems right now are green tint on my pictures, dust under the screen, ssometimes laggy performance. Battery life is decent where I can get 14 hours after moderate use with screen on time around 4 hours.
Any issues like this with the galaxy 2? Any that Yall have that u hate but can live with?

Hey,
hmm no I don't have any issues like that
some complain about battery life ... with normal using i can easly overlife 2days (normal using for me 15-30min calling; 20sms ;10mins of surfing; and email via pushmail daily)
I'm pretty used to listen music at work sometimes the full 8hours xD
And after 8 hours of music at full volume i still have arround 75% akku.
I never got any signs of dust under the screen.
I'm pretty amazed by my SGS2 and 100% satisfied
It's always blazing fast TW is pretty nice (my very own opinion (i'm no big sense fan))
And in my opinion this phone is very tough even if its only "plastic"
And my Pictures are pretty nice i Heard of a Red spot if you have a white background in the picture (in the middle of the picture) but i didn't recognized it till now^^.

Well my 30 day window expired in 3 days. I'm tempted to either take it back and wait it out or keep it and try to sell the EVO and just get the "within" when it releases.
But this is my 3rd EVO 3d and all had dust under the screen, sub par performance. I like sense but I've had LPP on it since the first day. The lock screen is pretty awesome. My og EVO was great. Plus this thing says 4.3 inch screen but with them making it taller, it actually feels like the screen is smaller....i want my wider screen back...

The screen resolution is that big of a deal to me, I mean its a 4.3 inch screen. Not like its a 50 inch.

As a long term HTC user and lover I can't stress enough how much you should make the jump. Samsung really stepped up their game after the original SGS debacle, creating what in my eyes is the true successor to the Nexus One in the 'revolutionary device' bracket.
Regards.

This. I came from the N1 as well and the difference in pretty much every way is night and day. I haven't had a hands on with the Evo but I watched plenty of videos and it is pretty nice. But having used the S2 I don't think there's anything currently on the market that could tear me away right now.
My roomate just upgraded from a evo to a evo 3d and i like it. He's stock not root or any fancy and he's phone fast. Definitely faster than he's old evo the only complaint its the camera quality. Old evo Camera much better. Anyway I don't have any of your problems with my sgs2. No problem with battery no lag at all. Btw I hate lag that's one thing I hate on phones lol... Anyway. I like the evo 3d soooooooo.

It is a very sad day for me today. After a very short 2 month love affair, I am saying goodbye to my beloved Xplay. I have loved it from day one, but cannot get around the fact that it is fundamentaly flawed. After 3 XPlays, I think it is time to say goodbye. 2 randomly rebooted and the third(which I have had for only a week) is going bonkers opening apps, typing messages, opening my phone book, and all at a time when I need something reliable. I am very sad to say that I am jumping ship to an Evo 3D. Although offered a different SE phone, I have opted to quit while ahead. I truly hope you all fair better than I have.

I have had the play since launch day and I have never had a problem with this handset and it's bin dropped numerous times but the evo3d is pretty good imo if I didnt have the xplay then I would choose sgs2
No flaw here, as of next month my play will be a year old.
I've had mine half a year now and have none of those problems
Sorry you have had such trouble. I got mine in November and it's been totally problem free. Wonder if it depends on where in the world your phone comes from.
I got my first Xperia Play sim free from 02 and that was faulty. But then I got a brand new replacement from Sony Ericsson ( now officially SONY ) and have had no problems with it. Works flawlessly. Oh and I love it !
Dude I ever dropped my play in a bucket of water and still nook issues! G this phone has saved my sanity on long road trips giving it to the kid in the back seat playing games.... Never has an issues with it and I'm coming up to a year with my baby play lol

I'll buy it from you if you dont want it But besides that you sure it's not a digitizer problem i.e opening apps/messages/dialing out
Sorry to hear about the troubles of your Xplay. Just a heads up though on the EVO 3D. I have 2 coworkers who havethe EVO 3D and it has been nothing but replacement after replacement. One coworker has had 4 replacements since August of last year, and he does not root or anything, all the way it came from teh factory. The other coworker is on his 3rd EVO 3D since the begining of July. Both are having issues with theirs and have even gone to the extent of having brand new devices replaced with new devices, rather then the typical refurbished ones they normally get. Be advised not trying to scare you just want to let you know what I have seen from the EVO 3D. Hopefully though it will all be golden from here on out for you. And again sucks about the play but hope you like your new EVO 3D and that it works out great for you. Also the 3D camera and videos are pretty snazzy...
Hmph, had XPlay for 8 months and the only problem I had so far is with the slider which is very loose and not as steady as the first time I bought the device.
As a matter of fact, I would change this phone only for XPlay 2 or Xperia S.
How unfortunate. Hope the Evo is a lot more reliable for you.
I've had the Xplay for almost a year and I have not had a single problem with it, and i dont handle it with care and have dropped it half a dozen times.
My Play occasionally jumps about whilst typing. Press the P key and it types P and D...or sometimes a space
Not bad enough to make me get rid of it though

It kinda vibrates 3 or 4 times very quickly. I installed ICXBeta3 and I havent had a problem since
You could also try downloading some different keyboard apps off the Market as well.
Look for A.I type keyboard.
If that doesn't work then try flashing Icxbeta3 and see if that helps. Sometimes it's just a simple corruption in the code I think and it makes the touchscreen a bit buggy
Sent from my Xperia Play using xda premium
I would only change it for an Xperia Play 2, an Xperia S, Galaxy Nexus or even SGS II, but, know what? I WON'T!* (except for Xperia Play 2) It just fits my needs and having it overclocked to 2.0GHz without ANY problems, getting ICS, being just plain awesome... everything I want in a single device, in fact, if I changed it for any of the aforementioned phones, it would be... luxury. I don't need 4G, NFC, buttonless phone, better front camera, 3D display, 3D camera, slimmer phone, lighter phone, etc, those are just extras I don't need. What I DO need is bigger internal space and a brighter screen. The ONLY flaw I ever had is when the touchscreen becomes flawed when it's heated up, I press F and it types "fcfc", I never had any other hardware flaw (I just proved the twice-received back key flaw was caused by CM7 - FXP047). If you aren't anymore into oh-my-god-no-fingers-on-the-screen gaming, feel free to change it for a newer or cheaper phone adapted to your needs, it's cool. It may also be bad luck, depending on where did you get the Xperia Play's from.
I happened to stroll into best buy to return something today and got a chance to play around with the ONE, and was honestly blown away. Granted I haven't seen the GS4 in person yet so it's not a fair comparison, but now I'm not so one sided in my opinion. Anyone else feeling this way? I think i need to spend some time with the GS4 and see if that extra .3 inches makes a difference, that is probably going to be the deciding factor.. but using mlb at bat and watching a game.. with those speakers.. unbelievable on the htc one.
I'm in the same boat. Said I would try it for 14 days then return to bestbuy for the S4. Not so sure about that now. I will need to play with the S4 extensively in the store before I make up my mind.

In the past year I have always had the urge to get the One X, One X Plus and now the One. The draw for me has always been their screen, good or bad just being different than Amoled I wanted to try it.
In the end I haven't gotten one yet because of the no sd or removeable battery. I always like to get an extended battery and I use a 64gb card.
Maybe one day I will give in
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I am a little disappointed a lot the non removable battery however the lack of an sd card doesn't bother me because I never go over 32gb and you can't even install large apps to the sd card anyway without doing a bunch of scripts or mods and apps don't run as smoothly from sd cards anyway.
I'm pretty sure the issue of screen quality and size will be the deciding factor for me. I've heard the argument of popping colors vs realistic colors but I need to decide which I like better. And coming from the note 2, I may decide that extra 0.3" is important to me.

Trust me, if you get the black mist version, it is legit. Just wait until you finally take it out of the box. I really wonder how anyone could think this phone looks cheap at all. I was the one showing off all the crazy features to the AT&T staff and they kept saying that they didn't know it could do that. Most of them had the new HTC one, but looked amazed at the GS4's features. Either way, just go with what you like. I just can't stand the lack of a menu button, no sd card and a sub par battery life on the One. The ONE does look a tad bit better, and I'm sure the boomsound is crazy, but overall, I'm happy I stuck with the GS4.
Phone + unremovable battery = unacceptable
HTC completely dropped the ball by not designing it with a removable battery..no way a power user is gonna make it through the day.. It's an HD screen with LTE data.. No way it can last.
That's a deal breaker for me
