Hi,
So I got my girlfriend this gift basically right when it came out. I rooted it, and flashed CM 7.1 RC1 (literally came out that day) a long time ago.
She gave it to me yesterday to get her PDF's on there. I opened the market and nothing would pop up except for the like 5 total apps, while the Browser was working 100% fine. I go to my apps in the market and try downloading updates and they kept failing. I was frustrated, so I downloaded the latest Cyanogen Nightly and Gapps. I updated CWM to 6.0.3.1, then made a backup of the existing ROM. I went into recovery, and tried finding the Nightly and Gapps I downloaded, but the SD Card would never mount. I'm not sure how I can fix this.
Please help, thanks a ton!

hmmm what about putting the stuff in the phone memory and flash there

Since you did it so long ago, do you remember if you installed the CM7 to emmc or SD? That may be your issue.
And how did you get 6.0.3.1? Rom Manager? That may be your issue too.

Thanks for the responses! To be 100% honest, I don't remember how I rooted/flashed. I know I had to buy an SD card for it though, and the SD card is labeled BOOT
I did get 6.0.3.1 through ROM Manager.

Do you need the SD inserted for it to boot to your CM7? If so, you installed to SD and with an SD installation, you do not use CWM to install upgrades. That is why you cannot see the zip you downloaded. If you want to upgrade a CM7 SD install to CM10, you need to start over with a newly burned SD. The old SD setup is not compatible with CM10. Use my guide linked in my signature.
You might just want to put CM10 on internal memory, replacing whatever is there. Just download the new CM zip to emmc with CM7, boot to emmc CWM, remove the SD, wipe data/factory reset and flash the new CM zip using the "install from SD/choose from internal memory" option. Then you need to flash the right gapps to match. Then reboot. Once you are sure everything is working, you can format your old SD with SDFormatter so it can be used as a normal data SD. Get it free on the web.

Hi,
I had cm7 installed on sd card and now i want to try PA CM9 on same card. I formmated sd card and used verygreen's image to put ParanoidAndroid zip on sd card and then inserted it in nook. I got errors telling me that it can't find cm-update files. I thought it would normally install new rom but i guess i had to first wipe old informations from nook from cm7. What should i do now?
Thank you in advance
You have to rename the file .. add "update-" to the front of it (without quotes but with dash) and flash again. You don't have to wipe anything..
Thx that worked but now it's stucked at black screen after universal boot screen. Last time i did this with cm7 it went perfect smooth.

Are you using the latest PA? I found that the version prior to the latest did not work on SD installs. And PA is kind of particular and you may want to wipe your card and start fresh.
I'm not a developer by any means, basically I'm just a newbie that can follow instructions.
Some time last year, I purchased a Nook Color and used various sites on the Internet to create a bootable SD Card for CM 10 nightlies.
Every few days or so, I would look to see if there was a new nightly available. If so I would download it, insert my sd card into the adaptor and then into my laptop, place the new download into my sd card folder, eject the sd card, insert it into my Nook Color, boot it into the SD Recovery mode, then after installation, boot it normally.
I've been doing that since last year, so much so that now I don't even remember how to do anything else.
Well, a few days ago, I followed my normal routine except this time I made a mistake. I accidentally downloaded the nightly for one of the LG phones instead of the Nook. So after I followed my normal routine, the Nook wouldn't boot. It just stayed on a black screen that made it look like it was off but it was actually still on.
It took a few days for me to catch my mistake, but once I did I downloaded what I thought was the correct nightly.
But this time, I didn't know we had switched to 10.1. So when I booted into the Nook Color, it didn't look right...the time showed up differently, some of my shortcuts were missing, and the wireless didn't work.
At first I thought it was because I had downloaded the LG phone nightly. But then I read about 10.1 and wasn't sure how to get the Nook working properly.
So I decided "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and went back to the last cm10 download that I still had on my laptop, which was the one from March 30.
I followed my normal routine again, and instead of the Nook booting, it's just on the CyanoMod screen with the circle going around and it's not booting. Now what?
Any suggestions are urgently appreciated. :fingers-crossed:
You destroyed your installation when you installed that LG version. If you had been installing to emmc, the installer would have caught the error and not let you. But the SD installer does not check first.
So you either need to start over with a new SD installation or install my Alternate CWM for SD and wipe /system and then install the correct CM.
To install fresh follow my instructions in my NC SD install guide linked on my signature.
To install my Alternative CWM for SD, go to my NC Tips thread also linked in my signature and read item B5.

How can I save my content?
Most of it is just apps that are linked to my Google account, and over 1,000 Kindle ebooks,
But I do have a few things that I downloaded from the Internet that I would like to keep.
Thanks in advance
P.S. Also, what is the difference in the two options that you gave?

The difference is using the alternate CWM may save your content. I say may because just wiping /system may not be enough and you may need to wipe /data too, which means you lose installed apps, but downloaded material and kindle books stay.
Starting fresh you lose everything.

I downloaded the alternate CWM, extracted it, and put the files on my SD Card, but I wasn't sure what you meant by "wiping/system".
So what I did was I cleared the cache, and then I put the latest cm 10.1 file and the gapps to go with it on my card, and booted into recovery as usual.
Then I booted up the Nook and it looks just like it did the first time...where the digital clock looks different, and there is no wifi. I press the wifi button to "on" but it doesn't do anything.

Wiping system means going to mounts and storage and picking format system. Wiping cache will not fix the problem.
After wiping /system, put the new CM and matching gapps zips on the boot partition like you always have and boot to SD recovery. It will install as usual. Then it may boot normally. If it does not, go to the Alternate CWM again and "wipe data/factory reset". Then reboot and you will need to setup and reinstall your apps, but your downloads will be there.

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that worked.
I'm fully up-to-date now and am running the CM 10.1. And I didn't lose any of my data.
I almost want to say that it even seems to be running faster than the March 30 cm10 version that I was running before.
I mainly use my Nook Color to read Kindle books, and it's so funny because if I had known that Amazon offered such a better selection of ebooks I wouldn't have purchased the Nook in the first place.
Now I was able to update my Kindle app to the latest version that mimics the Kindle (the real one) so I'm really excited.
Thanks for all your help.

Can I just download the CM10 Zip and Gapps to my SD card and flash from recovery? Or do I really need to format a SD card extract then burn image onto card etc....?

Do you already have CWM on internal memory? If so, you can use it to flash both CM10.1 and gapps. You can try doing it without factory reseting CM7 first. If it runs ok, leave it, but if you start having force closings, etc, do a factory reset later. No need to reflash.

Ahhhh yeah I couldnt wait any longer. Formatted a card, burned image, and flashed. No big deal. It was quicker than I remembered. But its good to know going forward I can just download right to my Nook and flash with recovery ( Yeah I have it installed ).
Running very nice right now. I mainly use this to watch Netflix before bed and found the Netflix 1.8.1. Apk to work great. Plays better and looks better than it did on my CM7 install. Im just blown away by how well this runs. I wasnt expecting this.
ive done this a few times and never had a problem when putting CM on my nook color. but when i decided to flash a newer version. CM 10.1.2 20130813 NIGHTLY it was workjing fine for a few hours while i redownload all the apps i had previously then it just shut off and booted up to nook not CM. i tried restarting, reseting through menu and the "8 boot method" and then reflashing CM 10.1.2 encore stable and it still keeps booting to nook not CM. ive tried looking everywhere for a fix and no1 seems to have ever had this problem. its like its stuck in nook mode (stock 1.4.3). any ideas??????? Before flashing, did you do a full wipe?
CWM > Wipe data & factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe your system partition?
I have a Nook Color as well, but I'm running CM7. I read somewhere that your CWM must be version 6.xxx to properly flash CM10 based roms. I believe that is your problem. Btw, CM7 has better performance on this old device.
flashing
i actually never flashed clockwork. all i did was use winimage to partition the card, then just dragged and dropped gapps and cm 10.1.2 20130815 nightly. then it broke after installing a few apps. ive been looking for CWM to wipe everything. from wut i understand CWM wipes it COMPLETELY unlike the 2 stock methods i used before. its like it just wont boot from the sd card anymore. it installs the CM but after its done it just boots up to nook. if you or anyone can tell me where to find CWM it would be much appreciated. i dont understand their site layout and the youtube directions dont have working links for CWM. any ideas? and thx so much for the response. i know from reading now that cm7 was wut i shud have installed instead of the newer extremely unstable cm9 and cm 10.2.
ALSO, im reading about CWM software is related to SD card size? i only have a 32gb sd which is not mentioned in any of the tutorials on how to use CWM. does it rly matter?

Sure thing. Here are the instructions for flashing CWM to your internal flash using a microSD card. You'll need a microSD card reader for this. Look on Amazon for the IOGear MicroSD card reader, I bought it recently for $6 in total.
Read this thread thoroughly, it is simple enough. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12797652
Also, I would suggest you install CM7 MiRaGe rom instead of stock CM7. It performs really well, and I have it overclocked to 1.2GHz stable. Here is the MiRaGe thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873

Nah, it works man. There's just a little bug you need to take care of. Go to the Mirage thread again, on the bottom of the first post, you'll see it says "wifi disconnecting? Read <link>". It's an easy fix. I had it too.
Hello XDA peeps.
I've had my Nook color for about 3+ years. Have had both my wife and mine running old versions of CM7 on the SD card without issue.
I recently dug mine out to set up for the kids (for a trip we're taking starting this weekend) and first installed CM10 (10.3 I think). loaded and was able to get apps running w/o issue but the poor old Nook and CM10 was so sluggish I felt it was just too much for this legacy device, so I reflashed to the CM7.2.0 [stable]
loaded just fine, but when I went to install GAPPS it installed fine, but will not allow me to access my account now.
no matter how many times I try, it tells me the password does not match for my account.
I know for a fact the password is the right one, and I can get on the Play store just fine on my Galaxy S3 using the same credentials.
I even reflashed the GAPPS to an older version and no luck.
Any thoughts? Really stuck here, since we're leaving Saturday morning and I want to have both Nooks up and running current versions of our boys fav games to pass the time. right now it has no app store, so it's pretty much a stripped Android tablet.

I actually have the CM10 on the root of the device. I thought I had put it on the SD card, but didn't. (just found this out by accidentally powering on the tablet w/o the card in it)
So, currently downloading the CM 10.2.1 update (from 10.1.3), and perhaps it will fix the sluggishness.
I have a third stock Nook that I have not touched in years that I'm going to flash on the SD card...see if I can't get it to CM7.2 w/o any issues.
but previously I had wiped the card twice and attempted to Reinstall CM7.2.
I think the fault lies in the steps I was following to burn the SD card.
Told me to add the gapps AFTER installing CM7
I was pretty sure in the past I put both on the same SD at the same time.
or it is possible the Google two-step verification/authorization is not compatible with the older Market app. I can get on the Play store just fine on CM10 (but it did have me open in the browser to verify the device).

I don't think CM10.2 is going to help. CM7 is the best for NC. I would wipe the internal CM10 you have on there and install CM7 to internal. Be sure to put the right gingerbread gapps on there too.

yes, thank you. I feel anything higher than CM7 just boggs the processor on these dated tablets. For a kids' tablet, it's just fine and will run most of their games/books and it remains snappy. CM10 just feels overloaded. It is sluggish and slow to respond. I'll try to get it moved back to CM7.
I've been trying to flash the other Nook, but after much effort, I have not been able to get it to boot into recovery.
I have the same card set-up, but I cannot get it to start with the card....constantly goes to the B&N root.

Thanks Leapinlar,
Still running into issues. now on BOTH Nooks.
I was pretty sure I remember something about an updated B&N ROM that was signaled with a Green sticker on the box, which the troublesome boot one has.
I am using the generic_sdcard_v1.3.img + cm-7.2.0-encore.zip + gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip all being burned via Terminal on Mac.
The only thing that has changed since I was dabbling with these in the past was the CM release.
I am not able to find my original bookmark of the tutorial I used to use (2+ years ago) so I think there might be a flaw in the instructions I'm following now. (for instance, the instructions I'm following now, the dd= command isn't proceeded by 'sudo' and without the sudo command, it errors out when trying to write the generic SD image to the disc (says disc is not available or locked).
gonna keep trying, because I want to get these up and working for our trip...we have 36+ hours of driving over the course of a week, so I know they'll get bored of looking at sights, reading books, watching DVDs, etc. Mainly for my own sanity, since I'll be driving.
**EDIT* i found the original tutorial I used years ago in my trove of bookmarks. It was the original GlassKeys tutorial. gonna give that a shot and report back with my success/errors.
Well, one thing, if you are going to use that old original image file you need to rename the CM zip to begin with update-. That will not help with the booting issue, but will make it so that image will recognize the CM zip.

Thanks. should have mentioned that I did rename the file to "update"
got my old CM10 to boot into Linux penguin and it seemed to be doing it's thing, after formatting the SD card following the GlassKeys instructions, but it is now booting to CM10 still by default and if I hold the "n" key for the boot menu on Cyanoboot and try to boot from SD card (normal or recovery) it just stays on that screen until I power it down.
as for the second, untouched Nook, I did the GlassKeys instructions to the SD card for that and it loaded to Penguin and went through all the install procedures, but now it still boots to the B&N emm setup screen.
wish I had never taken the other to CM10. now I have two Nooks that aren't acting properly.
thing that bugs me is the first one was running fine, just market wouldn't recognize my sign-in...now both are jacked.:silly:
SUCCESS!!!
So thank you goes out to leapinlar!!!
I dropped what I had been doing on my system as far as the files I was burning and read over all your FAQ and tutorial.
I downloaded the files in your how-to and had the tricky OE ROM flashed in a jiff!
The second one is installing now on the peguin screen and JUST now loaded to the CM7.2 bootloader screen.
Still used the GlassKeys instrucitons on how to burn via Terminal on OS X, but used your files (generic-sdcard-v1.3-CM7-9-10-10.1-10.2-11-largest-Rev8c.zip )
My original issue, I have found through all this, was that the Market wouldn't allow me to sign in...well that is an issue with the 2-step verification for my Google account I had activated (someone tried to hack my account, so I had it on). Once I turned it off, I was able to open the market and sign in.
Thanks again for your help leapinlar....check this one off!
Going to update both tonight with our boys' fav apps and games and get ready to hit the road first thing Sat morning!
