My wife has a razr m and after the last ota it keeps grandly rebooting. We even did a factory restore and wiped data, but the problem remains. Anyone else having the same issue? Phone isnt rooted BTW. She won't let me do it lol

Yeah, my wife's razr m is doing the EXACT same thing.
(In fact when I read your post I did a double take to make sure that I hadn't posted this in my sleep last night)
She is adamant that I do not root her phone.
I tried a cache wipe, then I tried a full data wipe/factory restore. Neither worked.
I never rooted her phone and I never tried RSD. (Mine, which I had to temp unroot via Voodoo to get the OTA is working just fine!)
So I can only guess that it is a hardware thing? Sometimes with the large batches of phones not all the memory or chipsets come from the same lot - even if they are the same spec. I am only guessing - grasping at straws really.
The other reason could be that you/she were not in an area of good reception (or packet loss occured) and the download of the OTA was somehow bad. Then when applied it is missing something that causes the reboot.
Either way, I went ahead with a Warranty replacement for her. I strongly recommend it. If there is something in the hardware - from some strange batch - that doesn't like the OTA, (Gremlins - whatever) then you and I shouldn't have to deal with it. Send it back to MOTO while you are still in warranty.

You could try matts utility 1.20 it flashes a good 4.1.2 and bring you back to like new stock

another thought is reboot in safe mode for a couple of hours and see if its an app causing the reboots...after holding the power button long press ok to boot into safe mode. A normal reboot will return you normal mode. Safe mode will "freeze" all non stock apps and let you see if is a system issue or a naughty app.

Definitely try Safe Mode.
If you still have crashes / freezes during Safe Mode - especially during phone calls - one other thing to consider is that you could have a bad SIM card. This is something that I didn't think of before, because I've never had a phone with a SIM card, but apparently they can go bad and are usually made very cheaply.

Safe mode

So I was playing with my nexus s and the screen shut off with out the old TV animation and woke it back up and I see SAFE MODE in the bottom left.
I rebooted and was back to normal..... has anybody else had this problem and how did it happen? What caused it?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I had the same thing happen to me last night as well. I'm not sure what caused it? Like you I rebooted my phone, and I was all good again.
Happened to me yesterday when booting the phone. Rebooted and everything went back to normal.
that happened to me when i had my HTC Hero CDMA
i never figured out what it was.
I had this same thing on my myTouch 3G. If you held down a button while starting up it put the
Phone in Safe Mode. It basically made all non-default applications not work. Did you guys try starting it up while holding a button?

I had the same thing. I remember I was trying to boot into bootloader with the down volume key. That didn't work but I think that may have been the cause. Of course I now know it's the up button that does it all.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Hi guys from what i have read the safe mode is in case you get app. that starts to act up my making your phone go nuts you can go in to safe mode by turn off your phone and while turning it on hold the menu button you go in to safe mode that way no third party app. are loaded so you can delete the app. that gave you the trouble that's what i have seen on the nexus s!!!!!!
good deal. I remember that I was wiping the screen off on my shirt while booting. Must have been what caused it. Useful info for the future for sure.
It happens when you turn on teh phone and half way through the boot process you hold the volume buttons

Motorola Atrix Sleep of Death

I've been having the sleep of Death since I got my atrix I never use wifi so it can't be that it many happens whilst browsing the Internet once finished I lock phone leave come back to it say 5 minutes later and I can't wake the fone so I have to pull the battery out to get it started
Dose anyone else have the happen to them iv tried reset full flash but it's still there
And could I ask what FakeBlurXmppApp.apk is because since I renamed it I ant had a sod?
I think renaming is the reason of problem if it is the only change you did to phone.
Stock roms usually don't have problems like that.
Sorry for not giving you a real help.

I had the same issue with my Motorola Photon 4G, people are having this issue, I don't understand why it keep doing this, how stupid?
The first time this happened to me I just plugged it in around 60% and went to bed and when I woke up in the morning there was nothing. Even taking the battery out and putting it back in, only the LED cokes on briefly but Jo other signs of booting and the only way I fixed it was by plugging it into a computer, or as I found out the second time an XBOX 360 so I'm thinking just something with a data connection, and pulling it out as soon as the LED flashes green then plugging it into the wall charger. Then the phone came up with the battery charging screen at 0%. After it charged I booted up like normal and it was fine for awhile until one time it died and I had to repeat the process to get it to come back up.
Send it in for a replacement, i had two do this to me and both ended up going out. They were unlocked but once they went out AT&T could not tell.
are you on a stock rom or custom rom? before calling for a new one try flashing 1.2.6 sbf and reroot and unlock the bootloader again.it wont say unlocked when you first flash the sbf reboot and reroot but it still is, itll say the boot loader is already unlocked when you go to unlock it thats fine just reboot and itll be back at the top. im saying this cause i had a similar problem and i couldnt turn the phone on or charge it at all i ended up using a different atrix to charge my battery when i turned it on it was stuck at the dual core boot logo. flashing this sbf fixed my brick and the no charging problem but youll be on the earliest firmware for the phone and have to redo all the rooting process. its worth a try and if it doesnt work then send it back.hope this helps.
I no don't think FakeBlurXmppApp.apk is making my phone sod as I've had it twice today its driving me nuts I don't no what's making it happen in another got no apps installed
Root/unlock causes this
I can tell you the issue is caused by either the unlocking of the bootloader or rooting. I unlocked, rooted, and installed a custom rom my 1st stock atrix and had this issue. I also had a hardware defect with the front camera lens so i returned it to stock via sbf prior to returning it. The problem disappeared. My new atrix worked perfect and after a couple days I unlocked and rooted but left the stock rom. Guess what, sleep of death returned, sbf to stock everything is fine. BTW I was using romracers recovery. So Im not sure if its rooting or unlocking or romracers recovery but it is one of the three. Hope that helps.
-Robert
i also have similar issues. it has some thing to do with deep sleep mode..as long as phone does not go in to deep sleep as son as screen is off the problem never happens.
so i tried wifi wizard and advanced wifi lock apps from market.wifi wizard switches on wifi when ever the screen is on. advanced wifi lock prevents phone from going into deep sleep.you can set a timeout.this works like a charm.i rarely get sod.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Rooting isn't the cause. My first Atrix was rooted & I never had that problem. My second Atrix started right awaywith the SOD, shortly after the OTA update.
And I'm my opinion, unlocking is absolutely necessary. If I hadn't unlocked my previous Atrix so that my backup applications and data syncing would work properly, I would have really been screwed. But every other day my phone backs up my data and once I'm home, uploads out to my home pc.

May be a little premature, but my current Atrix was have SOD & random reboot issues. I had given up & ordered a replacement. However, I changed the screen time out to never & I haven't had a freeze or reboot yet. I'm on day two & I've made a point to turn my wifi on and off. Hope this solves the problem. Guess I'll know if I make it through next week with no freezes.

i bought my atrix within one month of the launch I have always had the sod it has nothing to do with the rom although some roms will make it not happen as much my wife got her atrix like in September and she has never had sod. i just put up with it i plan to leave att once my contract is up
EDIT... reminds me to see if it is up don't remember if its one or 2 yrears
SOD Fix
I was SOD free being rooted, BL unlocked, running rom racers recovery, CM7 then Neutrino 2.6 then my phone decided format its internal partition on me. My phone is back up running now and I was getting the SOD a couple times a day. I fixed it by following 1chris89's fix here. I've been SOD free so far on day two running an OC kernel. 1chris89's fix a bit involved, editing the build.prop file, and based on cm7 flavored ROMS, changing the performance settings. Be careful when messing with the build.prop file and make a backup before attempting! Check out Xploited's guide here for a less involved method to fix your SOD. Hope these help!
OK! But... where can I find this "cm7 performance menu"?

I'm on Neutrino 2.6, to get to it I have to put a short cut on one of my home screens. First long press on your home screen and choose shortcut then choose cyanogenmod settings then choose performance settings.
would if i cannot even get into my phone to change the settings. Can someone with skillz put it into something that i can flash [1chris89's fix]?
it my just be a hardware issue for me also, but i did just get my know back from Motorola with a new screen installed.
When my phone does the SoD I can place a call to it, let it ring a few times, and then hang up. My display turns on and I can get get to the launcher to reboot the phone.
The SoD seems to get worse when I'm using the Bluetooth connection to my Sync system in my truck.

Experiencing Major Reboot Issues

Let me preface this by saying this is my experience. I am passing this off to see if others are experiencing the same thing. I am not dissing this phone because I really like it.
I have seen more than 10 random reboots with this phone. The crazy part is when the phone reboots, I lose settings.... Like a lot of them. I recently experienced and my notification bar started malfunctioning where the settings would not pull up and I could not long press panels. I finally had to factory reset my phone.... After that, it rebooted again this morning while I was listening to the radio.
At this point I am going to have start a log to try to correlate where the problem might be.
This is very concerning. I have never experienced anything like this even with custom Roms.
Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing this.

I've read that other people are experiencing this too. Hopefully mine doesn't come like this. I would recommend returning it and getting a new one. This is ridiculous that this is happening
Try removing all apps you installed and see if you cant pin it down to an app but if all said and done and phone is stock meaning you installed no additional apps and still see it happen then to me sounds like a Hardware problem and you should return it for a replacement.

I'm having the exact same issues. Once or twice a day, usually in USA Today or IHeartRadio, it reboots. Once I experienced that loss of settings also and had to factory reset. I'm going to return the phone.

Go into recovery mode with phone completely off .volume down+home button+power button. If that doesn't work factory reset and if that doesn't work return the phone or if possible reflash stock firmware through ODIN.

Yes, I use bluetooth to listen to IHeartRadio. I tried clearing the cache thru recovery. It did not work.

I have been watching watchespn for about an hour with my bluetooth headphones... No problem. I need to test iHeartRadio some more. With that said, I think there is a deeper issue here just because I've never seen settings get changed like that.

Just switched back to iHeartRadio on bluetooth, I was coming here to read a reply so I clicked the home button and rebooted.

The beta version (6.0.0) of the IHeartRadio app seems to have fixed my reboot problem (which was happening on both bluetooth and earphone modes).
Update, it is still rebooting, even using the beta.
First reboot of the day. IHeartRadio and Bluetooth. I am already running 6.0.0 of the app.

My experience was different. I didn't have any random reboot but I did get the phone just hang.
Before my Springbreak trip I was testing out a sport camera and downloaded an app that could remotely control the camera. Everything seemed to be working smoothly during the test. Then when I was done, I shut down the camera, turned off the phone and started packing up.
Then I needed to use the phone, so I turned it on.. it's turned on but I couldn't do anything, the screen was unresponsive.. I couldn't swipe or press anything... I attempted to reboot it... the power button still worked... the reboot menu came on but I couldn't press anything... I still could turn the screen on and off and brought up the reboot menu.. but jsut couldn't do anything with it..
Only one option was available which is to force it reboot by holding Power and Down volumne.
That was weird, especially on a brand new device.
I've seen it reboot a few times, and it is especially annoying when you are trying to show your device off and it reboots...in front of people...randomly. I am not sure if I want to return it just yet because it is a Touchwiz/android bug that I have experienced on other devices as well. It MAY be an app issue but I can't pinpoint it yet.
I was trying to launch my DJI Phantom app and it just hung/restarted - got stuck on tmobile screen and it wouldn't let me do a hard-reset! Had to wait a few mins and it recycled.

This is exactly what happened to mine, I was going to return it and put it on the charger and it rebooted. Knock on wood, No problems since. I'm going to keep a close eye on this in case I need to exchange.
Yes, same here. Bluetooth headset with iHeartRadio makes the phone reboot and lose some settings. Maybe a bug with iHeartRadio and 6.0.1.

Random reboots even after factory reset....

Hello,
I have my Moto X Style for a little less than one year. Had no problems with it at all, enjoyed it a lot, until about 3 weeks ago. It then started to randomly reboot, 3 or 4 times a day. I searched on Google and saw many people had that issue. Tried several of the "solutions" I found, uninstalled some apps I thought could be the cause, with no success.
2 days ago, I decided to do a factory reset. Looked like it worked, for one day. Yesterday, it did reboot once again, only one time though. And now, it just rebooted again a few seconds ago...
What can I do now? The dull thing is that every time it reboots, I lose the Bluetooth association with my devices and have to reassociate them, like the sound system in my car, and it sucks to enter the 0000 code and then having to add the player to the "trusted devices" and all....
Phone is not rooted and running system (Android 6.0 with Dec. 1st security) . Build #MPHS24.49-18-16.
Thanks for any input.

Only the core system apps, no other services are started... To access Safe Mode, press and hold power like you are going to shut off the phone, then when the Power Off message shows up, long press it until it says something about Restart in Safe Mode and select it. The next reboot will be in safe mode. To leave Safe Mode, just power off and restart again normally.
My guess is there is an app conflict somewhere... without a logcat of a random reboot it would be impossible to tell though.

Thing is, it started to do the random reboot thing even if I didn't install any new apps in a while. So, why would some app that didn't cause reboots before would start to cause some suddenly?

I don't know, an update perhaps... But your only other option is to contact Motorola and send it in for repair, it is usually easier to eliminate everything on your end first.

I'm from Canada, so can't use Lenovo US. Bought the phone from Expansys, with a 18-month total warranty, but I know they shut down their US office. They're supposed to still honor warranties though...
But still there must be a way to make the damn phone work without shipping it back... Would root and a custom OS be an option?

It's always an option, but stock is generally more stable than any custom ROM.
Without knowing the cause, I can't say for sure.
Try the Safe Mode thing first... it wouldn't be first time an app update caused a device to reboot.

Nexus 4 went nuts

Hi,
My Nexus 4 has been acting up for some time. I had the infamous "optimizing apps" issue almost one year ago. Since then I used an app ("optimizer app fix" or something) to get around it. It's rooted, but I can't remember the details/versions.
More recently, the phone started to lose the network connection. I tried to change the setting from automatic to my home network, it did seem to help a bit, but didn't really fix the issue.
Yesterday I was using the flashlight, and just before I turned it off, the phone rebooted itself. From then on it became very unstable. If I leave it alone in flight mode, it will stay on. If I start doing anything, at some point it will shut down. If I keep it plugged to the charger, it stays on, though. So it looked like the battery is gone. I'm just not 100% sure because if I boot it into recovery mode it stays there apparently with no issues, for a long time. It could be that the current draw is not so big in that mode, though.
I have just finished backing up whatever I could, and wiped the data/dalvik/cache partitions from the TWRP recovery menu. Still not good. Did a Format Data from there too. No luck.
Given the cost and hassle and wait and the number of fake batteries in the market, I don't want to buy a new battery to revive this phone (knowing that it's likely to fail again sooner than I can expect). Is there anything else you'd suggest that I try before I go shop for a new phone? :crying:
Thanks,
VMat
