[Help] TWRP reboots during restore

TWRP 2.5.0.0 reboots my device while performing a restore. It usually happens during the DATA phase. I've tried two different restores and the same thing happens. Thanks
If you need more detail, i'll do my best to provide.

I've actually been getting random freezes and reboots in TWRP myself, in the last 2 weeks or so, since I've gone flash-crazy. Have you been flashing a lot?

I wouldn't say flash-crazy, but i've tried two different roms in the past two days. It's not really freezing either. It will just start to restore, make it half way through, and reboot. My rom will be restored but none of my data.

Yep, seems to be happening a lot. One suggestion was to revert to 2.4 or even 2.3.3.0. I tried that, and thought the problem was solved, but then it happened again, so I figured what the hell, I'll go back to 2.5.
You're right, it always happens during the data restore, but so far the second attempt at restoring always succeeds, so it's more annoying than anything. I can't recall it ever happening on my phone, though, so I wonder if it's a device issue. Also my phone is running JB 4.1.2 and my N10 is on 4.2.2.

So yesterday I went to flash a new ROM and TWRP froze immediately after doing a Factory Reset Wipe. Nexus kept bootlooping and then getting stuck on the TEAMWIN screen. Was able to get into the bootloader and flash the stock image and unroot through the Nexus Toolkit. I lost all my data though. So my question is, if you can get to bootloader mode and the toolkit recognizes it in bootloader mode, can you recover data without having to do what I did and wipe the device? For future reference sake. God I need to get better about backing up my data on my PC.
Anyone found the solution to this? I am not able to restore my data ( During the resotre in TWRP it goes blackscreen and then just reboots. I've triel like 10 times already..

I had the same issue. Its most likely a corrupt backup and can't be solved. But if you've successfully restored that backup before try reflashing the recovery. Just a tip that somebody else gave me. Use philz cwm touch recovery. It has no issues and more reliable then other recoveries.

Yes, i'm thinking the same. Maybe it also because the backup was huge (maybe like 4 gb).
But I am not really sure if it is corrupted because the system restores fine and data do not, but it fails in different places, i.e. it may reboot in 30 seconds and may reboot in 2 minutes...

[Q] Stuck in recovery bootloop

Okay so I have the sprint LG G2 and was being an idiot messing around with the hidden menu and I selected an option fota update test or something and my device rebooted. Now it only reboots into recovery mode. I have TWRP 2.6.3.2. It tells me that it cannot find my backup. The Log file says E:storage partition //twrp/backups not found. I dont know what to do. Ive tried flashing roms, but it just reboots back into recovery every time even when I tell it to reboot bootloader. Any Ideas?
It's fixed! I used the Lg flash tool with the sprint .tot file and she is alive! Thanks all of you I appreciate it.

Okay i'm asking for help thats all. I know what I did was stupid. I'm trying to sideload the stock rom but it keeps getting stuck at 84%. The problem I think, is the boot partition is all messed up.

This is what you need to do.Dont worry nothing is messed up,the phone will be back after this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
I did the second option since i find it easier to do.
you can simply use TWRP's awesome "terminal command" option to run the following:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota

Hey thanks for responding. I tried doing that just now and it still keeps rebooting in recovery. I did the first option though. I cant find where to enter commands on TWRP. It just tells me to pick a folder.
Can anybody help? I'm pretty desperate here. I just dont know why twrp deleted my backup. I had one on there that I used all the time and now it says it cant find it. It just keeps rebooting into recovery mode.

I just tried that same result . Every time I reboot it goes back into recovery its stuck in a recovery bootloop.
If you typed it properly and it doesnt work, then i dont know...I have done what you did before to try it out, since i knew how to fix it.And it worked just fine.

are you on sprint? Thats what im on. I tried that method, but got stuck on this part: 4) Now unplug your phone, power off and then go back into download mode again, volUp+USB. It should immediately connect and start flashing.
When I would go to unplug it and reboot into download mode it just wouldn't do anything the app would just say ready.
I somehow got my nandroid back but when Its done flashing it just reboots back into recovery. I dont know whats going on.
Man this is so frustrating. Ive tried all these things and it still only boots recovery even after flashing my nandroid I made awhile back. Im stuck and dont know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Are you sure that you did the 2nd method properly?Try once more and double check what you type. Why this worked for me when i did the same but it doesnt work for you..Nothing much you can do atm either that,or download a kdz rom and try to upgrade with flashtool.
Thanks for trying to help me out. I got it fixed by using the lg flash tool. I feel like such an idiot. Ive been coming around these forums for awhile I just never registered. I consider myself pretty good with tech but im self taught so their is alot of trial and error and noob mistakes. +1

Be sure to backup your photos and files and contacts on your internal memory.

scrambled PIN now locked out. Help please.

Hi guys.
i'm new here and greatly appreciate the knowledge here. I recently installed purenexus on my 6p. first time installing a custom rom. worked beautifully until i decided to try out the lockscreen scramble pin feature. Now when I try to unlock my phone it doesn't recognize my PIN. i've tried many times and something undoubtedly went wrong. is this a known issue with scrambling your pin?
So what should i do? A quick google search suggested I restore a backup. Is this the recommended method? I did a factory back up, i think. i did the back up after the factory reset but before flashing purenexus. i used the default twrp back up settings, which i believe did not include the vendor file.
i'm a complete novice when it comes to this sort of thing so if someone can give me a step-by-step explanation for me to unscrew myself here i'd greatly appreciate it.
thanks.

Yes, if you clean flash the ROM you'll be able to get back into it. Had you restored a nandroid backup recently by any chance?

thanks a lot for clarifying that. i guess i have no other option.
has this been known to happen? scrambling PIN causing the pin to change.
I dont have a recent nandroid backup because my purenexus flash is only days old. is there a way to automate nandroid backups? is it wiser to keep the backups on the phone?

I've never seen this happen before. I'm pretty sure you can use Tasker to automate backups. I usually advise people to keep at least one backup or ROM zip on their phone, just in case.
IT HAPPENED AGAIN!
Per the ever hepful Heisenberg's recommendation, I wiped my phone and reflashed purenexus. This was yesterday. Everything went smoothly. Recreated my security PIN. Was able to unlock my phone with it without incident...until just now. Incorrect PIN error 3 times.
What is going on?!?!
It should be noted that both times this has happened has come after I turned my phone off. This time I happened to be charging my phone while it was off. I can't recall if it was the same case the first time it happened. Is this a purenexus issue?
found the solution.
"Delete this file /data/system/locksettings.db from TWRP."
I wish I had known this the first time it happened. Oh well. I sure hope this helps someone else in the future.

This is usually over necessary after a user has created (and later restored) a nandroid backup without removing lockscreen security first. Are you saying you hadn't done this at all prior to the problem occurring?

i dont know what qualifies as a nandroid backup. the only backup i created was with the TWRP backup function which i later moved to my laptop, as previously mentioned. and yes, i did that before the problem occured. it was before I had even installed pure nexus.
btw, it happened AGAIN (#3 for those keeping score). i'm going to assume there's a bug in the rom and forego the use of a security pin. also, for the first time, when i went back into twrp to once again delete the locksettings.db file i was prompted to enter a password before i could modify the system. Odd.

thanks for that, but i believe i did that because i backuped a clean factory 6.0.1, sans any security setup. not sure if that was necessary but that's what i did.

The problem isn't with the ROM, I (along with what I'm guessing is pretty much every other user) use fingerprint and/or PIN/pattern security on Pure Nexus with no issues. A nandroid backup is one of those backups you create with TWRP, so yes it's what you described. But this problem shouldn't be occurring on a clean flash of Pure Nexus, can you please explain in detailed steps how you installed the ROM?

On Marshmallow, the scramble pin option is bugged if you use a long pin. Some rom devs choose to leave this out entirely. I haven't played with it to determine the cut off point but 4 digits is fine. I think I tried 8 digits once and it locked me out.

Awesome.. Thanks a bunch for posting this... I am using Oneplus 3T , Resurrection Remix 5.7.4 ( Marshmallow) . Had turned on Scrambled PIN.. Ran into same issue as yours.. Last option left for me was to do factory reset from TWRP but I was scared to lose Google Authenticator Setup on my phone and many other things... Your solution saved me!! :good::good:
I also had a similar problem:
- freshly installed Carbon ROM with TWRP
- added lockscreen password in phone
- locked screen
- tried accessing using password
The password just fails. Using a shorter password works normally. The failing password is 13 characters long.

Need an LS997 tester for my NSS5.5 ROM and kernel

Hello, I am uploading my MOD ROM and kernel for Sprint. A previous attempt failed, and I just learned that the boot.img I had received was not the actual stock Sprint ROM, so the RAMdisk did not work.
Need someone, or some people to test, so I can make an official post in the ROM section.
As always, I recommend doing a full backup in TWRP to be able to restore to if the ROM does not work.
Also, Titanium Backup is the go-to app to backup your apps (do not backup system apps, only apps that you yourself have downloaded).
Must be on the latest TWRP. Must be fully decrypted. Do a clean flash.
Here is the latest test. I believe it should be fine. Static boot will remain since you have a bootloader not made for your device.
(reuploading, old zip would not flash due to a typo)

How long are you waiting? First boot takes about 15 mins.
You still have to do whatever the static boot fix is.

I waited awhile id say atleast 30 min each time. it never gets to the point where I can shut off the screen to do the static fix. I'm in the process of trying again I will let it sit for awhile longer and see what happens.
Still couldnt get it to boot not sure why.
I locked up too. It happens just about a second into the boot animation. I can see maybe colored balls swirling and then some light text starts to fade in right in the center of the screen then it locks up. Pulled the battery and booted it up a 2nd time just in case but it also locked up and never finished. Gave it 30 minutes the first time and 15 on the second boot attempt.
