[Q] Anyone use "Easy Mode"? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Just for giggles, I'm trying out the Easy Mode. It's actually pretty nice to get away from all the bloat and fancy animations. It's not something I'd use every day, but it's a nice "vacation" I guess... then I remember that I'm using the most powerful phone on the market and quickly switch back.
Anyone else try out Easy Mode?

Grandma's? Sure
People on Xda? Hell no

I did by accident; didn't do my homework good enough for the S4 I guess lol. It's fresh and clean, a little to simple but I think someone could build something cool around it once the bootloader is unlocked.
Oh and as for if I use it, your reaction was mine, can't help but make sure my phone is being used to its MAXIMUM potential

Automating wifi enable/disable

Starting a new thread on this becuase i'm not sure that the solutions i've seen would quite fit what i want.
Here's the scenario:
I have setup MS My Phone to do a backup everynight (it's that or manually and i always forget). I have wifi but the backup is scheduled to happen over night and i don't want to hit the fair usage limit on my unlimited mobile data plan (that's a bit of a joke in itself).
So i want a program that i can use to schedule the wifi to turn itself on just before the backup starts and then wait an hour or so to turn it off again when the backup is sure to be finished.
I know there are scheduling apps out there but i don't know if they can do this.
BTW, i would prefer it if it was a freebie. I don't see the point of spending money for such a seemingly simple thing.
Thanks in advance guys
why not just backup to your sd card?

I do every night i also have both by leo and my diamond backed up on to my pc but what if both phones fail and my pc is destroyed in a fire? Everything is lost! Anyway, i'm trying to test something very specific that i'm not going to explain untll i'm sure of the cause and solution.
Thanks for not adding anything of any value to what could turn out to be a very interesting thread.
Does any else have anything useful to share?

you think your a bad person!? that was me being nice! I work in IT and i'm very good at it. I'm generally grumpy and i really, really can not be bothered to sit here and have stupid questions asked of me when if that is what i wanted to do i would have done it already.
Then i'm expected to sit and take more people wasting my time bad mouthing me because i spoke my mind?
It almost makes all the help i gave out for free here not worth it. Oh yeah! I stopped doing that because it's not worth it! Between the repetative stupid questions, the trolls and junior members that have no interest in doing anything but post count bumping (for examples see above), i was pretty much wasting my time. It now seems expecting some sort of serious, helpful and inteligent response to a serious and inteligent question is too much to ask.
If your not going to post anything helpful. Don't bother posting. Your wasting my time as well as your own.
FYI the answer to the question is wirelesstime 2.0. Workjs with bluetooth and wifi and can enable and disable it based on day of the week and time of day. Not tested it yet but looks like a goer

what is odin?

I am coming from an evo 4g and would like to know what odin is/used for. on the evo I only ever had to use adb. is it necessary to have or is it more like htc sync. ie only needed in certain circumstances. thanks in advance for the input

dude why must you say that to everyone youre really not helping ive seen you in about 3 threads already saying the same thing post something a little help and then suggest that they move it i left the 32b section and was hoping that this section would be a little better and more helpful cause for right now the community for our phone is small and we need whoever is here to be helpful

He's exactly right... because this subforum is just starting up, everything needs to be in its appropriate section. It will make everthing easier when this starts to pick up and you need to go back and find something. No one who wants to flash a custom rom wants to read questions about apps. So no hatin involved, lets just put stuff in the appropriate spots

yes i understand that but to the op you really didnt help at all thats what i mean im not saying your wrong at all im just saying help the guy even though he posted in the wrong spot and then ask him to move it cause hes in the wrong section thats all
honestly i was going under the assumtion that odin was some program you had to use to flash roms or something along those lines. How would i go about transfering it to the general section?
none of you are helping at all. if you don't have anything helpful at all to contribute then don't say anything at all. saying stuff like this doesn't belong here isn't helpful at all and all it does is clutter the thread. if it needs to be moved then let a mod decide on that.
as for answering the op's question...
Odin is the program you use to flash phones.
'Odin Multi Downloader v3.95.exe' is used to flash the Samsung Galaxy. It's usually included in firmware packs.
Gunman is trying to help... Ppl need to read the rules and follow them before posting... A simple google search would have answered his question.. I already posted a "read before posting" thread.. Its all the way at the bottom bc ppl are posting incorrectly and in the wrong place

Someone should make a FAQ stickey so hopefully people will see that instead of making threads, just a thought.
Its not stckied yet... Any mod wanna sticky it?

when you say firm ware like when you flash new kernals/roms or updating hardware like the radio and such? or do you mean the version of android itself? also do you have to use odin or can you just get a .zip of the firm ware/rom then flash it in recovery mode?
Id say 99.999% of the time no one mods the hardware, the roms are essentially like OS's, and firmware is like a bios, it translates what the rom wants us to do into how the hardware is going to do it.
Yes I realize this is not a perfect analogy, and no offense to the OP, this is just a basic rundown for anyone starting out.
On a Vibrant, using this app-thingy

Odin is a tool used for downloading new rom's or software to the phone. you need to put the phone into download mode to get odin to recognize it. Be very careful as to how you use this software, it can brick your phone if you mess up and don't do it right.

So i just got my replacement device

The battery was draining really quick in my old one. And i dont wanna make the same mistakes i did. So should i root this one? And whats the best lag fix out there?
Why do you post new threads for every update instead of using your original thread? It clutters up the forum and it's impossible for us to see the history or your problem.

Yeah, not really. Just giving you a tip on getting better help from people by helping them to help you. It doesn't help anybody (you included) when the forum is a cluttered mess. It runs contrary to forum etiquette and, to a lesser degree, forum rules.
Hey, I'm not a mod, though, so do what you want.
Dude. You seriously create a new thread every time you have a thought...
Do you really want to annoy those who you seek help from?
EDIT: Please note I did not try and help... get it?

LOL, I think the point here is well made.
But anyways, I can tell you rooting your phone did not destroy your battery life. Skip the lag fix if your not having any major issues. Or if you feel like you just have to have more speed, flash one of Eugenes great roms he has out.

whos said i needed your help? and i don't annoy anyone. Did i force you to come in my thread? NO! so mind your business and keep it moving
O my God.... you did not create a thread to reply to me?
OP should get an old school flip phone and never touch a computer again.
forum topics shouldnt be treated like twitter posts...
When you do this, it gives the forum a lesser appearance, especially when people come in these to tell you how stupid/ignorant you are for all the needless threads.
How does telling the world you got a new vibrant to fix your battery problems make this forum a better place? Especially when you dont even state what you did to cause said battery problems.
Please consider this before starting a thread. If not, before you know it mods might start restricting rights who gets to open threads which in effect world kill this forum.
Might I also add this is why we have the Search function as well to reduce the amount of topics posted. This allows us to consolidate all of the information into one post rather than having to hunt and peck for information. Please be more considerate to those around you and if you have an added question then request it on the same thread or people will ignore your request for help (i haven't seen anyone with any real help for you here)

And how are we to help him without any reference points "my battery drains fast" and what is fast? 4 hours - 6 hours 8 hours? What are you doing during this time, is your phone off , are you on a phone call, games? You just cant come onto XDA and scream MOMMY HELP ME with your hand out without giving more information.

[THINK TANK]backlight notifications on bottom buttons from i9000... port possible!?!?

backlight buttons used for notifications on the i9000
i remember seeing this before in the theme and apps section and it got ruled out for the vibrant because of kernel issues i think it was... but they figured it out for the i9000, so i hope we can see this on our phone... soon.
btw... please dont flame and tell me this is in the wrong thread, because it will get more views here... and its in this section of the i9000 thread.
If you build it. they will come
Try this, it works like a charm: http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.led.notify
thanks... ive seen that in the market... but unless theyve changed the battery drain and the using home button to power the phone back up... it doesnt feel like a complete solution. atleast for me...

well the source is there from the i9000 build, sounds like you need to get to work to fit your needs.
oh and it's in the development section in the i9000 section because there is DEVELOPMENT done, unless you plan on doing something this should go in the Q&A section.
flame on!
Who cares if its in the wrong section or not? If everyone posted crap like that then nothing would get done with our phone so take that **** elsewhere. Anyway back to the topic at hand, just reading over the first post it seems as tho the dev who made that is willing to port it to other Galaxy S phones. Anyone try contacting him yet?

the i9000 is a GALAXY S,
now look at the back of your phone
it probably says GALAXY S
hmmmm... soo strange how that works.
it isnt my fault that samsung decided to put

i do my part for the community anyway i can,
and i know as well as anyone else, the q and a

hopefully this thread will bring to life some actual

id do it myself, but obviously i cant...
which is why i posted.

The i9000 is a variation of the Galaxy S just as the Vibrant, Epic and so on are. Each may be similar but no two are alike, if they were you wouldn't be here requesting someone do something you are too lazy to figure out and learn yourself. And yes it's strange how THAT works.

Do your part by not being one of the members that purposely posts things in the wrong section. If the moderators did not feel the need for separate sections we would have one general forum.
And the reason the Q&A section doesn't get "much" attention is because people like you refuse to post there.. why would someone looks there if you continue to post here?
Change the thread title to include [Think Tank] then he can't complain anymore.

you arent the xda police. id just like to bring it to an experienced persons attention who could do it faster than it would take me to learn. why? cause i work and have a life that doesnt completely revolve around xda.
so why dont you go flame someone elses thread little lady... as you can see, there are some ppl here that would like to accomplish the same thing id like to see. which is to get more functionality out of my phone, since it is obviously possible on other "similar" models.

Really? Isn't the whole point behind a Think Tank to get people in here and try and get development done? Hmm seems to fit this thread perfectly. So what exactly is the problem now?
Edit: That configurable backlight timeout thread has nothing to do with this topic, It's a separate topic that in no way involves using the backlights as notifications. The other thread isn't a Think Tank so go flame in that one if your that hell bent on being useless to getting this to work on our phones.

sounds like a great idea... i guess im just hoping for an update.zip or apk possibly... like in the other thread... so that we can unlock this feature with ANY rom... but im glad to see people taking proactive steps... ill be sure to mention it on the samsung website...
sorry for the negativity previously in this thread... its just kind of sad to throw a disclaimer up, only to find someone try to tear it down... its unnecessarily negative when the out come of this thread is supposed to be positive.

ubuntu not very useful?

Not sure if I can post this here. If not, please feel free to move this thread..
But after I installed ubuntu, I found it is slow and no responsive at most times. And sometimes when it goes vertical screen mode, it is not possible to revert it back.... and the sound does not work well.... etc..
I understand this version is just supposed to be for developpers, but at least it should be usable....
Or Is it just me?
Perhaps because it is in development?
As for the responsiveness, I guess it is with the optimizations still not in place? Of course it is a work in progress, Canonical is still using developing on it. I can browse on Firefox smoothly though, so I don't see the problem much.
Just bear with it for now as long as you don't overload it, it will be fine.
