Free RAM available in ROMs - Xperia Arc General

I'm starting this thread for users to know the amounts of free RAM available on ROM's.
I think every MB of RAM matters for ARC/S because of the very low amount in ICS.
In this way, users can share their setup and tweaks for others to know how to get the max out of their phones.
In my opinion, post like these will help users a lot more than benchmark screenshots
We can make a list of the ROM - kernel combination for the best amount of RAM
Rules:
- Take screenshot after a restart
- For a fair comparisment only Settings and Keyboard should be running (stop the other processes)
- Write the amount of aps installed
- Write the ROM and Kernel
(rules can be changed if constructive tips and suggestions are offered)
So, let's get to the point!
APS: 22 installed (128 in total)
ROM: TrueSmooth V1.4
Kernel: Vengeance 1.36

Imo the most free ram doesn't really provide the best result for the ROM itself. For example you can have 100MB free and a smooth rom or 250MB free but laggy homescreen, slower opening apps and such. I've been in both situations, now I'm with 141MB free on super jelly bean and its still smooth with viber, tapatalk, facebook and falcon pro running

I think it is not encouraged in XDA to compare ROMs in any form. MODs always suggest to check the ROM thread for discussions and further issues.

exactly. And you´ve ever heard the statement "free ram is wasted ram"? Android manages it´s ram consumption itself and this is not a benchmarkeable (funny word btw ) value

Ok, this thread is ok as it stands, providing it stays as a comparison thread, do not let it become a look my rom kicks out more ram than your rom and don't start providing recomendations on which rom to get.

This is similar to comparing ROM performance, which is not allowed on XDA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097137
Even so, you cannot guarantee that all phones would have the same amount of free RAM because each phone will have a different set of apps, or running on different kernels or having other kinds of tweaks.

im using fxp 215 with the stock fxp kernel and im usually at 27-40mb free ram, without task killer, when i clear my recent apps list the ram goes up to anywhere between 70 and 140mb it kind of depends what apps i was using.

Stock .587 debloated, apps and mods. After a long time of cooked roms I tried to optimize my own. Smoother than anyother. And a lot of ram. ))

There is absolutely no difference in custom ROM and stock ROM when it comes to performance. Custom ROMs are debloated and loaded with additional features which comes at the cost of some hidden messed up errors.
If you can debloat the stock ROM then its the best. Also add mods only if its absolutely stable. IMO Custom ROMs are not for people who need a stable phone

Some ROMs are known to be unstable but they are well documented. Taking out the bloatware from phones wont make them unstable.
I was happily using the Xperia Ultimate HD 3.0.2 ROM but missed the keyboard spell checker from jellybean 4.1.2
Arc with CyanogenMod 10-20130505
195 meg used and 168 free

I'm not saying debloating can mess up the ROM. But IMO Debloating Stock ROM can give same performance as that is being promised by custom ROMS. Most of the modifications made in Custom ROM create bugs one way or another.

It differs on owner's taste. Some prefer stock over custom, or custom over stock. Some prefer JB over ICS or ICS over GB or vice versa.

Hi,
1. Free RAM is not wasted RAM, how often I have to repeat it.
2. 200MB free RAM is USELESS. I can gurantee you, it won't really help you. I can set my LMK superhigh and hack my services.jar to get 270mb free, but it won't be good.
A still good amount of free RAM is ~70mb, everything will run smooth and you can cache your apps to avoid restarts and save cpu usage. This is different from device to device, GS3 needs maybe 170mb free to be "smooth".
@kaca
Can you post me your services.jar?
I think you're using a old supercharger patch which displays wrong free RAM.
Can you test some Games and report how MC3/MC4 runs?
Cuz' with that free RAM they need to be lagfree
Also, if we just remove all bloatware we can get ~200mb+ free RAM.
But that is and will never be the point of custom ROMs, they should rather enhance peformance AND functionality, while not sacrifing battery life.
Cheers,
Jan

Hello Jan, here is my services.jar. I didn't change a thing there it is from the TrueSmooth ROM as I said. I don't believe the measurement is fake, it is pretty accurate

im not sure if this is in the right section but all i want to tell you is what combination of various things made my galaxy s customised and speedy
What to do:
1)Flash XXJPK
2)Then flash XXJP6
3)After that apply Voodoo Doctor Edition Follow all the recomendations and what lag fix to use . Then when booted , open AutoKiller and set the preset to Aggressive
4)After that apply Elegant Steel Theme
5)When Done set launcher pro as default launcher and extract this on the root of your SD Card.
6)go back to launcherpro and press menu preferences and restore backup then reboot it.
7)just to make sure open preferences again then advanced then memory usage preset is on medium and 'Build caches as needed' is unchecked.
8)Open up SetCPU (available on the market or *whistle* on the net) and set the minimum to 200
After these steps you will have something like this (excluding the widgets)

If you think it is still laggy - set memory usage to maxumum, duh. We have (even with our crippled ram) more ram and 80% of android devices out there.
And yes, its wrong forum for this =)

Why flash to XXJP6 when voodoo doctor edition already contains all the required flash, you can even use a base 2.1 FW and use CWM to install the VDE.

You can start from any ROM with that VDE
The perfect setup for me is right now this.
Jpm firmware.
Super optimized kernel z4mod patched.
Z4mod with ext2 filsystem.
Rooted With oclf.
Minfree settings to strict.
Schedule to deadline.
This will work without problem and its fast and no lag.

Agreed, cosmetic changes to the theme or launcher have no influence on lag at all; its just the act of a fresh flash. The min free will have a marginal effect.
A kernel mod and file system change is the only solution to lag.

Also there's a full XXJP6 ROM out there that doesn't need a flash to a previous ROM to work. Flash to one or the other, no need for both!
Of course you could petition the ROMs creator to upload a full odin package so people dont need to fiddle around with upgrades at all. One flash, right to the ROM.
All I am saying guys is the combination that satisfies me as for me now my galaxy s is complete. All I'm going to do now is look around for themes or rom ports such as cyanogen or desire hd.
I'm not competing against anyone, but feel free to post your combinations

I have always been a fan of using the slimmest of slim roms, so I thought I would share mine with you.
I had good responses from the few who have tried the rom, all fans of slim super skinny roms. So thank you Cypher_X, Marvinph, and Zurchpet, and to all Doc testers and helpers.. I'm sure I have been persistent recently
This is Stock JS5
It is fully Deoxed and Zip aligned using cygwin (a great tool).
I have removed almost every apk.
Removed a lot of other system files.
I have left it on stock theme.
Removed Touchwiz and installed Zeam as standard launcher.
Hardcores K13a Kernel is included (Thanks Hardcore).
I have included the free edition of Titanium.
CSC is XEU standard , the modem is TLJL3
Installation from CWM.
Boot into recovery.
Factory reset/wipe
Flash the Rom
Once installed, go and clear Dalvik.

I will be updating this thread as often as possible.
I don't want credit as it was other people who have got me to this point.
I have to say a Very Big thanks to DocRambone for pointing me in the right direction, and also for providing many great roms over the last 6 months. A true master.
Thank You to Hardcore for the kernel, another master.
Stefunel and Thomas for the kitchen. One great asset to the Galaxy S scene. Thanks to Tegrak you have opened up a whole new can of worms for many people (I'm a great fan), I didn't have the balls to install it on my 1st rom though.
Dsixda for the HTC Kitchen, worked a dream.
Daneshm90 for his signature, that really helped..
A big thanks to all other Devs, using your rom's / kernels is teaching me a lot.

I think your missing the link to the rom. There is no clicky for the rom, there is one for the kernal. Also what launcher are you using?

wow slim roms seem to be all the rage these days...
well done OP
I have been a great fan of the Skinny Roms.. This way you can build it yourself.
Once you have played with your phone for a week or so, the novelty of all the features wares off, you know what you want, you will have a titanium folder full of the apps you like. So why not start with a bare rom
--------------------------------------------------------------
I missed something out on the call record phone.apk
Please install this over it if you wish to use caller record either from CWM or extract and paste the files.
Until v1.3 anyway
This ROM is so fast, I love it. It boots super quick, and once a I put a theme on it and changed a few things it will be my day to day ROM.
This looks interesting, downloading..

Update. For v1.3 (available over the next 24/48 hours)
I have taken another 2+ mb out of framework-res.apk.
Replaced the phone recorder with the .zip in the post above.
Removed vpnservices and the tethering apk's (not sure about tethering though, it can be helpful)
To do
Compress the apps.
See what else can be taken out, but make sure this is stable.
I really need your input though please. I have a GT-I9000 so I know nothing about the captivate. I use the k13 kernel in my other thread as it is stable and great, but my daily kernel is tegrak as it is super fast and great on battery at the same time.
If you want anything included. Let me know.

Ahh ok. I thought you just hadn't updated the OP yet. I'll give it a try once you post 1.3 (given it doesn't have tethering snipped out).
Also, I don't know much of anything about rom development, but I'd suggest including the suckerpunch kernel or at least make sure they're compatible. It's becoming more and more popular and I would love to run these two side by side.

SuckerPunch was ok, but it gave me mounting issues. Just keep that in mind. I am not saying it wasn't fixed, but that is why I didn't use it as the default Kernel in my ROMS(Phoenix, FireFly(passed on to Xtreme) and now SuperNova). Take a look at DG's newest update to his FireBird kernel. That is smooth as butter with no issues to report. Just a thought though, it is your ROM after all
Edit: Every device is different, keep that in mind

I personally use suckerpunch, but Firebird or speedmod are probably the best choices so you wont have people with bad oc/UV blaming it on your ROM.

[Updated 19-3-12][ROM] Ace-Of-Spades V3 [Guaranteed Performance+Battery]

MODERATOR EDIT: This thread is closed, the downloads have been removed, and the author is banned.
------------------
Ace Of Spades
by Trent Turvey
The speed of the rom is NOT due to overclocking or modifying the kernel
It's due to the optimization of the management, all that makes it faster is the fact that it can chew through applications better and faster
from the tweak of the management. Overclocking physically changes the speed of the processor.
Thankyou for my donations!!!!!!!!!!!

Description
Ace Of Spades is one of the highly preferred android systems.
Read the how-to or else you'll think the rom is playing up on first boot!
This System is designed for
1. Speed
2. Super Stability
3. Customization
4. General Use
5. Battery Performance
I've spent weeks, months purely modifying the system for performance whilst having the best battery life. I can guarantee the speed and the battery at the same time will impress.
This release has a blue over glow effect, Ice Cream Sandwich icons/animations and the Ice Cream Sandwich Status Bar. The backgrounds when in apps (Like gallery, contacts, settings etc.) are transparent.
I've added A2SD and I've included the A2SDGUI App in the ROM.
This rom is so highly customizable and stable, I've never used anyone else's rom for general use, I started developing roms so i could have a stable rom whilst being fast and efficient for social networking, gaming etc.
The System has an ultimate edit of the blackhawk kernel implemented into the rom. I have my own edits of the libs and files which all work together to make one stable, high quality system. I've based the System on 2.3.7, I've compiled the system directly from cyanogenmod github (It's pure cyanogenmod, No edit of anyone else's rom)
This is how I'll be doing it, I'll have three versions of each release
Yes, This version DOES have the CyanogenMod libaudio file ported by me, try the sound.. you'll notice it.
Overall, this rom is the best AOS release ever (well, from my experience)
ANY requests/issues regarding the rom, post below and I'll help you out, keep in mind that I'm only 16 years old and i have other commitments too! I'm customizing roms for YOU. So no hard criticism
How-to
You need ClockWorkMod installed (see here)
Reboot into ClockWorkMod Recovery, wipe data, wipe cache
Flash the .zip from the Downloads section (below) from clockwork recovery.
Reboot your phone (first boot will take some time, reboot twice for optimal performance)
Listen carefully! LET the rom do its thing when you install it, it'll reboot a couple of times (This is my script finalizing) It'll work like normal after the first boot.

Nice rom, but I think I'll wait for your second release. Cheers!
is it based on some cm ( like FAT team's or vo-1's ) or this is entirely new ??
finally ...something different....NICE
will try the next version though...
coz your next version changes seems cool..
Its just another CM7 based rom. Fast and stable. No lags. All the best
Trent: what have you used as your base ROM, vo-1, FAT or something else?
If you do go about compiling CM yourself, a github fork with the code you use will be very welcome, currently both vo-1 and FAT do not do this (thus against the spirit of Cyanogen and Android itself)
Hey @trentlio...
Firstly, "Welcome to XDA "
I have just grabbed your rom for testing/use but what really interested me was your mention of a "Custom kernel" compiled by you...
I am not a dev but I do specialise in OC'ing both Pc/Android Cpu/Gpu... I have had some outstanding results so far using the various custom kernels/scripts available, @ketut, @FrozenAce Team, @TeamCooper, "Engengis_Delta" script engine etc...
I would be very interested in field testing your kernel once compiled & complete given that it also has OC capability...
If you would rather discuss this in private (not in public thread) then please PM me...
I think your kernel could have real potential especially if the frequencies are not limited (Blackhawk kernel etc.). We need the full range 1036mhz max... I believe that given the right kernel/rom/script combination, we can truly take the Ace to the 1ghz wall & possibly beyond. To date I have had OC @940mhz stable & I have exceeded 2500 points in Antutu bench @921mhz... The voltage limitation on ARMv6 is a real ***** but who knows what is around the corner eh...?
waiting to hear from you either way (yay or nay)...hehe...
Stay Breezy n Be Lucky...
Pe"ACE"...
I'll try it out after download. Going to give feedback after a few hours.
Feedback: Awesome boot-animation! Did you make it yourself? As for the rom. It's very fast and stable. It's like my Ace is already overclocked even without an OC kernel. Overall, it's a great rom. Keep it up.
preety nice bootanimation
fast stable and with antutu score 2079

Hello everyone. In this thread I will write down reviews for some of the best ROMs for Xperia X8.ATM I tested just 3 ROMs and I will review each of them , but I will test more and review them right here for you
To find a ROM in my review list press CTRL + F in the same time and write the ROMs name
FDE +4 - Final Verison
In this morning I was looking for a custom ROM for my new Xperia X8 when I found this.I was amazed by it's Xperia look.I also read some comments from guys who already tested it and I wanted it tok.I installed it trough CWM and I excepted poor performance because all of us know that stock kernel isn't that good (yes , I use stock kernel because I have my phone sim-locked and I don't want to break it's radio). I instantly loved the bootanimation which is simple but cool and after the boot , I was truly amazed. This ROM is very smooth and clean.I haven't got any lag until now and battery seems to be OK.Also I have installed some games to test it's performance.I tested both , 2D and 3D games to see how it's working and it worked like a charm. The performance in 2D is amazing and in 3D some games still need Chainfire3D to work properly.I overclocked it at 690mhz and it's very good.I also like the idea of including theme chooser.I downloaded Xperia Arc theme from Google Play (which is also included) and applied it.It's working perfect. The clock is by default on the center of status bar and it's nicely covered by date when you pull the bar down. This is my first review and hope you liked it.Below you can see some stats to have the same performance or maybe better with a new kernel.
Phone specs:
Stock Kernel
Baseband 015
CPU 691mhz - 122mhz
Grades:
Performance : 9
Design : 7 because the ugly icons
Battery life : 8 which is pretty good
Installation : 10 very easy

Nice. I also review ROMs. If you would like to team up, we can create better reviews for the public. Just an idea. Also, I think if you used standard English and not slang your review might be more professional. And maybe some structure? But great overall.
No offense, but I think you shouldn't be judging which are the best ROMs for our device. Each user has it's own best ROM based on their experience.
In my opinion, you should review the current most popular ROMs for the X8.
Oh my the OP is just trying to make a review based in his/her opinion and you guys bombarded him with this and that JUST BECAUSE OF HIS TITLE? Sad to say but this is what Ive noticed. When new people comes and and post ideas and reviews or do something useful although it already exist, you always bombard them with negative feedback's like that thread exist that is not useful blah blah blah. Whats wrong with you guys? You say for a fact that everyone has its own best rom, then the OP has his own so his review never existed.
I think what we need to do here is guide noobs rather than posting degrading and disappointing words. If you dont feel like helping then dont but please refrain from posting such things. I wonder if people do the same actions to you. sighs..
Please stay on topic guys! Further trolling won't be tolerated!
@OP: I suggest you to change the title/body of your thread a bit to give it a more personal touch.
Maybe this will keep the trolls away
Thread cleaned.

Well I remember using it and it was stable and smooth, also I don't remember any bugs or such

In 2 yerars of 'rominstalling' on X8 I think GingerDX v031b and the latest Alfs (08a) Kernel is the best of all. The phone is quick, can work very stable on 748MHz.

Let this thread serve as a placeholder until an official thread shows up.
I recommend the stock kernel, but so far I've also tried out the Fusion kernel and I must say, it boosts the battery life significantly.
Recommended settings:
OC to 1.2Ghz.
Boost Min CPU value to 200mhz

-Team XPeria for porting unofficial releases and helping us hold off until the real deal.
Bugs found so far:
For anybody wondering about any bugs found in the Cyanogenmod builds so far, I can say with relative certainty that there're virtually no bugs, aside from the fact that the built in HDMI feature doesn't work. But that's a given seeing as to how most ROMS have the same problem.

Silencer

yes, everything what u said is true, but i would say that users that wont a faster device should raise min frequency not max because device is much more responsive if min freq. is set to about 200-300 mhz, so no need for OC.

what do you mean by "touchscreen issue" and which version of rom you installed?
On the website are only downloads for LT15i Devices not for LT18i can I install it though?
Those nightlies are same as FXP's.

So basically, it is FXP's nightlies that are getting uploaded there.
And this should go in the General section, right? Since this is not any form of development.

none of this makes sense! if cyanogen and fxp are the same person then why use two different sites? (cyanogen site and fxp site)
Thread moved to general. Placeholders can't be posted in the development sections.
Greate! Fast, smooth, more ram free,..
Wifi,camera,bt,.. good with Fusion kernel 4.1
