I really posted it for people to compare the two heavy weight cameras, S4 and Z. The fact that the camera on the One is crap is old news.
I'd like the conversation to focus on S4 vs Z.
Htc one couldn't compete so let's leave it to one side.
Personally I think the Z won it because the S4 looked a bit over exposed in some scenes while the Z maintained the best image quality throughout. If Samsung release an update to fix the over exposure, I'd put both cameras neck and neck.

Both the Z and S4 use the Exmor RS so yeh, it comes down to software tweaks.

Well on that note. The Z looks more natural. S4 looks good but I prefer to see it as my eyes intended. Just my opinion.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium

Hard to tell which is the most natural because I have no freaking clue how it looks in real life.
But HTC one definatly has an awful camera.
S4 & Z looks just about as sharp, but the colour saturations are completely different. I think the Z has the better "real-life quality" Because there's no way it's completely pitch black outside and buildings being that yellow.

HTC one was awefull, throughout the video the colour was way too yellow and laggy. I thought it was very disappointing for a phone which was made out to have a revolutionary camera.
On the other hand, The xperia z seemed to have a purple tint which made it look weird in some cases (didn't the iPhone 5 have that issue?). But overall the colour was a lot better and more true to real life colours than HTC.
The S4 was amazing, it had no awefull colour tints and footage was smooth and colour was better than the two of them put together.
Anyway, that's my opinion, I prefer the S4's camera Despite me being a Sony fanboy lol
Sent from my LT30p using xda premium

The video of the Arc de Triumphe the s4 made it look a little over bright. Was a daily commute for me when I lived in France. Passed it many times in the twilight hours. Again eyes see what they see. Think it's a matter of preference. But do like the S4. Have 1 in my household also.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium

S4 is the winner here, only if it's a true comparison.
It has more details, color reproduction is more accurate.
The Z has less details, and magenta tint.
Did you make this comparison or you found it somewhere?

Found it on YouTube. It's made by a French tech site. I personally found the Z to be the best. I doubt very much that the buildings could have been that yellowy as some have said already.
The Z maintained the best quality throughout.
As for the HTC, don't really want to talk about that. I'd seen enough well before this video to know it's camera is the poorest seen on any flagship for some time.
S4 and Z were close but I think the Zs camera used its brain a bit more. The video was better calculated as far as the settings used.
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app

The S4 looks like its filtered some how. You notice it more when you see the street lights. The Z captures that halo effect of the light, where as the S4 is completely halo free - definitely filtered.....
The only issue I have with the Z night time video recording is that it has a hard time focusing on objects coming towards you and tends to make the video visibly "jitter" - almost as if it was applying a kind of face tracking to high speed objects..... This of course is the software, as I downloaded a JB Camera app and it massively reduced this issue.

damn that S4 look good but Z isnt that far behind, honestly though, how many of u video record that often? and how many of you take picture a lot? if you do you should get Sony NEX

Can't agree with you. XZ recording has better white balance and natural, almost daylike colours. S4 recording is old news - everything's yellowish like in every night/low light video recording - it's still good, but I prefer the way XZ records it as i honestly don't like those yellow night time recordings.

Being a professional photographer doesn't make you right or even more qualified to judge.
I seriously doubt that the buildings looked that yellowy. Let's not get caught in minor details.
The overall image quality was better on the Z in my opinion. You obviously have your opinion but that's all it is.

Well if you've got a misses like mine, you'll struggle to get through the day without taking at least 5 pics. Mostly of her by the way lol.
She's getting the s4 this May so I'll get an opportunity to judge them better.
I've done comparison with iPhone 5 which I'll post eventually when I have the time. The Zs problem is the heavy processing of noise which blurs out the fine details when you start cropping. It doesn't happen always, it all depends on how good a pic you take to begin with. The better it is, the less processing there is. At zero crop however, the Zs image quality is the best I've seen on a phone. The processing does improve the image quality by getting rid of the dreaded noise but fine details are blurred out when cropped. I guess it's a trade off and I doubt most people use cropped pictures anyway.

Very well said. He said we aren't believing our eyes but the yellow buildings on the S4 don't support his theory. I think it's him who doesn't want to believe his eyes. Instead, he's picking up on minor details to justify his position.

Atrix's Camera, How to Improve?

hi
We all know that Atrix's camera is one of its down sides.
What are you suggestions to improve quality of photos?
any software, settings, etc?
What settings do you use for your camera?
Sent from my Atrix 4G with XDA Premium App
I guess downloading other apps is the main way to improve it. Nothing can be done about it's poor light capturing sensor tough.
I like the camera I dunno what your talking about. I find the hdr camera really helps.

First of all dont judge the camera by looking at pics on the ATRIX screen, it sucks
Transfer to pc and see
Next thing camera is better on GB
Next best software is LGcamera and not HDR camera
Try it ,it has loads of settings and works really good
Im actually going back to an iPhone 4 because of the camera on my Atrix. Nothing really compares once you you've had an ip4.

Well its not the best (nokia n8 probably is), its good....for a phone. Honestly though have you never used a decent digital camera before? I would never base a phone purchase (at least at this time) on the camera when you could spend $100 buying a used p&s off ebay that would blow the iphone away for photos. If photography is what u care about buy a cheaper phone and a dslr to go with it.

One area the iPhone 5 & Lumia beats the S3 is...

.. performance in the daylight sun. I find the S3's screen is so hard to read outside on a sunny day even on 100% brightness. This was the only thing I miss about my Lumia & the only thing I think will be nice on the iPhone 5.
Will Samsung ever address this issue on future phones or is it just a shortcoming of AMOLED screens?

Some people need to stop being butthurt when somebody said something is better on another phone. OLED Screens are worse than IPS screens in sunlight, that's just fact.. most of us know, there's nothing you can do about it.
OP If you want you can try using Siyah kernel and adjust the max brightness value in the STweaks app, it helps a tiny bit. How it affects the health of your screen over a long period of time is anyones guess.
What you guys on about i have the International S3 and it is perfectly normal and very bright i can see it in very sunny conditions. When i first bought the phone it was a sunny day i was sitting in the park messing about with it i can see everything on my screen. Unlike my HTC Desire this was awesomely bright. Anyway i dunno what is wrong with your one though.
Maybe i am wrong who knows but i am not trying to be a fan boy i have both iphone 4s and s3 both are good phones in their own way. but the s3's brightness is perfect for me.

My Lumia was worlds better than my AT&T S3 (at 100%) under basic sunlight, not sure if there is a difference in the screens for Int. S3 vs mine, I hadn't thought there was? The iPhone 5 has iSight that will act to combat the sunlight wash, so it was a pre-emptive prediction, as the S3 has no tech in it to do that. I don't get why they didn't put the tech of Lumia screen into the S3, it would make sense.

[Q] HTC One (M7) or HTC One X +

Hey everybody! I want to know whether buying the developer unlocked M7 from HTC is worth the $649 asking price or is the HTC One X Plus the better option being generally $200 cheaper with its 1GB Ram and 64GB internal memory and quadcore chip? I must admit the non-removable battery has me leaning on a Sammy Note 2 but is there a way to restart these devices without removing the battery for those of us who customize our devices? In other words, from a frozen state or the need to reboot the device, is there an iron clad way to restart the phone in these conditions...and I don't mean give it a dunk or a bat or use to skip on a pond. For those of you who have in your possession a M7...is the hardware living up to the specs? Thanks!

You can reset it by holding the power button, like the Nexus 4, or any iPhone. You don't need to ever remove the battery. I never once removed my battery in my Note, Note II, or S3. People act like it is such a big deal, it really isn't.

I'd say go with the One. It is a bit more expensive, but you'll have the highest end device currently available (to prevent any flaming: this is my personal preference. The Galaxy S4 is also great, but I dislike the design of the SGS4 and really like htc Sense) and you will most certainly be good to go for another 2 years minimum. The X+ is also great, but the tegra chip and battery life disappointed me greatly on the One X. I can't say anything about the Note 2, but I've heard good things about it. What I dislike about it is the giant screen, but that's again personal preference.

Note 2 because
Better screen ( bright power efficient amoled vs slcd)
Better battery life + removable
Better storage options
S-pen
No blinkfeed
Better camera 8 vs 4 mp
The only real benefit with a htc one would be build quality which is nice, but the note 3 should feature better build quality.

No. No, you don't. It's an opinion and has precisely zero to do with any "logic" that's actually veracious. Try again.
Your rationality behind why it's better (notably the AMOLED) is laughable. Why don't you add hyper-contrasted colors to that list since it's a widely held belief? Or the fact that most people find Samsung's UI ugly as sin? Or that the argument between 8 MP/ 4 MP is a total understatement? Or that you'd have no real way of speaking to the battery life of either device since they haven't even been in the hands of consumers yet?
These questions are, of course, rhetorical.

Screen size is irrelevant. Its based on the user.
Better screen? WTF LOL 1080p 468ppi vs 720 at like 260ppi... OK
3100 5.5 inch vs 2300 4.7
32 GB base storage is good. Vs 16/sdcard. This is a user preference

Pixel count is irrelavant nowadays im talking about the power efficient vibrant nature of amoled.
Spen is very popular in my circles and adds so much to the business experience. Note 2 is for bosses.
You say change the homescreen but why have it in the first place? Just another gimmick.
Yes better camera. Note 2 camera is one if the best all rounders there is. Htc one is only good for low light shots.

You clearly lack reading comprehension. They aren't facts. They're your misguided opinions. Plus, you haven't even touched either of the devices before so it's obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about.

I have had a play with a htc one device a couple of days ago in a phone shop. Salesman was trying to sell the one to me on a 2 year contract. 15 mins after droning on about '1080p' , 'zoe' and 'blinkfeed' i just pulled out my 5.5inches of amoled perfection and was on my way.

Just out of interest have Samsung solved the loose battery problem in the note 3, you know where the device will switch off if it gets a knock? I know that wedging it in with a slip of paper helps but why should you have to do that in a high end device?

Never had that issue with mine or others whom own the device. Sounds like an early batch issue.

HTC One vs Galaxy S4 Complete Video Comparison (Full HD)

Hey Guys,
This is my video comparison of the HTC One against the Galaxy S4
Hope it helps!
Leave a comment and let me know what you think
Ash
I stopped watching when the review said the S4 has a brighter screen...that is a load of crap I have seen these phones side by side the S 4 is nowhere near the same brightness..every review has said the opposite sorry #fail you must have had it turned down by accident cause its way brighter man
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
He also said the S4 is louder. But the ONE is clearer. Listen man I tried. I had to stop. So Manu things are just wrong. Thanks for your effort. But for me this was not a informing video. Thanks.

The One is the best phone. No extra gimmicks just pure beast. Killer looks! It is worth every penny.

Just to the above comments:
It may not be wrong if OP said the S4 is brighter because the One uses different display panels, and OP may have gotten one that is calibrated not as bright.
As for the sound, I have also read that the One speaker is clear, not not much louder.... again, I don't really care if it's loud or not because being clearer is much more important.
No doubt, I'm loving my One

Could you please check which screen you own? Because there is a screen made by Samsung (C1) which is not as bright as the average HTC One Screen (C2) or the Sharp one.
HTC ones do vary. Not sure why you are making the connection C1=Samsung and C2=Sharp however. Can you cite a reference for this?

u see auto brightness is not checked right? you think I turned auto brightness on after to shoot the remaining pics? Why would I do that? If I were a Samsung fanboy my video wouldnt end with me saying the one is the better buy and I def wouldnt be pointing out the lag & boot times or saying I prefer the htc's cam to the s4's...
its ok I believe you but you did get a bad screen then...when u get your replacement you will see until then we wait

I will post comparisons once I get it bro, I really want the one to do well, I like samsung and I am biased towards touchwiz but I am sick of samsungs complacency... the one doing better will be just the rude awakening that samsung needs... do you know there is a camera/phone hybrid coming out thats gonna be called the galaxy s4 zoom? nope not the galaxy camera zoom but the galaxy s4 zoom and with a qhd screen...grr!
my biggest issue with htc was battery life... thats improved a lot with the one and each day my love for touchwiz grows a little lesser and i like my one a little more
Clearly, the HTC One M7 is far better than S4

I know a fanboy when I see one. And.........
My previously owned phones include an Note 2, and S3, G2X, S2, Vibrant , G1, and HTC Evo 3d.
Now I have The One.
I have no reason to lie nor care. But you a touchwiz fanboy?
Said it all right there.

I never said u lied, you dont own both devices, I do, Ive checked them out and forget me, maybe am wrong, gsmarena seems to agree...just because I like touchwiz more than I like sense doesnt mean am a fanboy or am not objective... I did point out all flaws of touchwiz, call some gestures a gimmick, criticize samsung for a whole line of galaxy crap and point out the lag whatd i say about the one? the screen's not as bright... yup i seem to have a faulty device... its not as loud... and then u call me a sammy fanboy? phew!
BTW Devices I currently own - Oppo Find 5, HTC Butterfly, HTC One, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note, Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Xperia Z and a Lumia 920

Sony Convert

So I have officially placed my order for the Xperia Z Ultra and it will be here come Tuesday. With that much screen real estate I just couldn't resist. I know I'm going to miss the BoomSound speakers, but outside of that, I'm ready to see how this thing works out. Anyone else leaning towards getting the Z Ultra?

Silly, maybe. From what I've seen so far, the build quality is sound, the phone is snappy, the screen is responsive. The HTC one Max would have been a decent alternative if it had been water and dust resistant.

I absolutely love Sonys ui, colors and feel. From the One to the other, don't know, you gotta decide lol. But that's a damn good phone, the Sony. Hope it's viewing angles are ok, that's Sonys only flaw. I have the honami, Ultra launcher, on my one now. Love it.
