[Q] How to install themes on the nexus 4? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I got my N4 a few months ago and wanted to know how to get the themes posted on here onto my phone.
Any help/links would be appreciated.Complete noob here.My first android phone and would be great if there is a guide for dummies or anything similar.
Hope to learn a lot from xda.
Thanks

If you're on the stock rom then you can't use themes. You need to flash a rom that supports themes and most of them do (CM, AOKP, PA, etc.). After that it's just a matter of installing the theme apk then opening up the theme chooser and setting the theme.

Can't answer that for you. Thats like saying what is the most stable and easy to drive car?
Best advice is to look down the Original Android dev forum based on popularity and user feedback (read past couple of pages).
They're all free. Hell.... if you want, put down 6 hours and try them all!
I personally use CarbonRom + Franco. Kernels is another story but adds a lot to your phone such as color control, headphone gain etc

[Q] Optimized Stock

Hello everyone! I just spent awhile in the development forums looking for a simple optimized stock rom. Back on my Galaxy Nexus, I used to run Pete Alfonso's builds because they were pretty much stock with root and some simple optimizations and improvements. I can't seem to find any Nexus 4 roms of this type? Does anybody know any good, supported, but very minimal optimized stock roms? I don't want a CM10.1/AOKP/PA based rom. I don't want loads of custom code. Just a good quick rom!
Thanks

[Q] Stupid Question.

I have a stupid question. I have tried to search but apparently I am not using the right keywords. I barely post, and when I do it's only when I can not actually find the answer myself. So hopefully you can bare with me and keep the flaming to a minimum.
I have been looking for a custom rom. There are a few that I have wanted to check out, however I actually do like and use the samsung camera features like drama shot, etc.
Is there a cm or aosp based rom that someone could recommend that offers those camera features? Or basically am I stuck just debloating my stock rom if I want to keep them? Not that I find too much actually wrong with the stock rom, I was just looking to play around and try out some of the different projects out there.
Thanks for the help guys in advance. I hope I was clear enough in what I am looking for.
Tim
You have to flash a TW based rom.

Are you saying there is a touchwiz based (debloated) rom that has the AOSP overlay and features. I've been using slim rom (love it) but was thinking. Couldnt you theoretically have a TW based ROM and have the AOSP ontop of it. I love the look of AOSP way more than touch wiz.

Your best bet is to go with a debloated Touchwiz-based ROM based on the much more up to date International firmware. Goldeneye 4.0 is the way to go for me.
You can even install MODs like the xposed framework/nolimit that all you to really customize the look of your phone.

Need Help please

Hello,
I've recently read about AOSP and makes me want to replace TouchWiz, so I rooted my phone and the problem is how do I install a custom ROM? I've read that I need the ROM manager and it's at the application manager I think but I've found none so I googled it and seems like it's the app I've downloaded 4 years ago. Can you please give me the steps on how do yo Properly install a custom ROM and could you also please suggest what's the good or the best AOSP Rom?
Thanks!
You didn't really google because there are countless threads out here.
It's easy:
- Flash custom recovery
- Flash the rom you want.
There is no best aosp rom, try them out for yourself which one suits you.

Yeah, I didn't google enough
I was too tired to search google again
and as for that no best aosp rom.. Im asking your opinion, so for you there's nothing in mind that you like?
Personally, I would suggest you try one of the Google Play Edition based roms. They are more stable, as compared to the AOSP based ones. All the best, and Happy Flashing

Every aosp rom is based on Cyanogenmod. So then it comes down to a matter of personal preference. Just try them out for yourself and see which one suites you.

I'll try that. Installing Cyanogen is a pain in the ass
Not EVERY aosp rom Is based on CyanogenMod. SlimRoms and Pure AOSP are not based on CyanogenMod... though CyanogenMod is based on AOSP. I hope you get the drill

Too many roms, which one should I choose ? Which one is the best ?

I browse XDA everyday and these days there are so many new custom roms for OPX. I'm so confused choosing the one to be flash on my OPX (E1001). So I would like to make a vote so that everyone can share their experience about custom roms choosing. For me, After tried several roms I'm now back to OxygenOS since it's stable. Bluspark kernel gives me a smooth UX and fine performace in gaming. I got 27-29 fps playing Hearthstone on my phone.
Try them, read the forums and decide for yourself. Best rom threads aren't allowed on xda.

Try purity rom. You'll find it on purity community on g+. For me it's perfect. Not a single bug

Yup. That's the best way. Just try em all. I don't even have a favorite. Some are better in different ways. Right now I am running Oxygen though. It's the only ROM supported by the Boeffla kernel right now
I means I just want to find a rom which has good battery and bug free for daily use.

Bro you can use boeffela kernel on h2os also I have flashed boeffela 7 for oneplus x OOS on h2os and it is running smoothly no lags at all and on benchmark it is giving a score of 68k to 69k by doing some customization by boeffela config app
I totally understand this poll.
Following OnePlus X development thread for some time now, it is quite difficult to choose one of the ROM.
For those saying that we need to try them ... I tried most of them and can't figure out why using one compare to the other ...
Most of them are CM based or include exactly the same feature.
I remembered using TeamEOS ROM and this, was completely different (in my point of view). Some extra goodies included but all from them, with some differences (gestures instead of navbar).
I don't want to be rude dev, but except AOSParadox, all are quite similar for "normal" users (not developpers I mean) and when using one, you tried all of them ...

What is so different than all other CM based rom?
too many similar roms, it's quite annoying actually. would of liked some custom Oxy OS roms etc and H2OS debloated roms
all these cm13 roms are the same just rebadged

The biggest thing for me, that there are no bugs. No wifi bug, no invalid number bug, build in superuser works, so no need for supersu etc.
For me it's bug free,

Just tried it myself. No crashes here. I'm running with bluspark kernel 104 BTW.
I tried some custom ROMs but battery life is nothing like OxyOS..
I found screen on time 5.5-6 hr in oxy os & it's great...
So I am Desperately Seeking
Is there any Custom OS based on OxyOS/H2OS ?
yeah i would like a h2os lite version but not holding my breath for it. h2os with boeffla kernel flies. 71k antutu score.
also this vote will only show how many users r using their preferred rom. it will not show the best rom.

I am working on a custom oos rom. Will release when its ready (think about two weeks from now). And I'm still pending on permission from a few developers to use their source.

That's the very good news....
Custom H2OS may be better ..
Any way ???
So for me it's either ashwins cm13 or purity. But what all custom ROMs currently lack is encryption.
That is one thing (I know it is hard to implement) I really would like to see in the next builds as it is for me an essential feature when you are using a custom recovery and an unlocked bootloader. I hope there will be some focus on it within the next weeks.
The only option for now is: stay on stock

Base roms

So I searched the whole rom recoveries kernel section, did not see any base roms. If there isn't, where to info about pulling system to make one? Trying to get a custom OOS rom going as AOSP can suck it lol. Original software is always more stable IMO

Normally pure AOSP is considered as the reference as it's Google code without modification. But people don't like pure AOSP because it's lacking many features people are used to. So even AOSP labeled ROM have some non AOSP add-ons.
If you want a 'pure' AOSP ROM you'll have to compile it.

Back in the days someone usually created an optimized stock Rom for different devices based off the OEMs software so that others could flash it or use it as a base for custom ROMs based off of stock.
I believe that's what he is referencing if I am not mistaken.

There is no base ROM for the OnePlus 6T. Its so AOSP like almost everything is done from source. I thought about posting a base ROM, as that is what I used to primarily use (and usually posted). I wasnt much into Source.
Another cool thing some devs due are make mods that can be flashed in magisk, and so long as you have the stock oos you can enjoy there version of stock oos with whatever tweaks they have done to it such as custom settings apps, etc.

Nailed Scott as usual. This device and how android handles files is extremely different than other phones we've both worked on as well (pretty sure that's android specific) I'm gonna have to look into the magisk thing. Never did the from source thing so that might be over my head. Don't have Linux set up on my machine either so a lot of time would have to go into just getting a stock flashable to work with.
I want to get some of the mods and themes I always post for this phone, but this might be a hurtle as I usually got a base to run with. I always try to show some love and since developers are jumping ship (because the money's not there, let's not lie and say that isn't what it's about) I know my work would be appreciated

The magisk modules are a great way to go because its reversible as well. Not sure if you knew that. You can uninstall these MagiskROM's just as easy as installing.

I did, but think I'm just gonna make a flashable over stock package, too much catching up to do so gonna stick to what I know
