It's not only AT&T, it seems it can't be found anywhere yet.
I'm also waiting for the 32Gb version.
I agree--haven't looked hard but see no dates
Am looking at this phone for me and my son on att and no more internal option than 16gb in 2013 is not acceptable. Understand it has 64gb sdcard available. But not all apps are put there. And I have no experience with Samsung devices to know how or if they handle apps to sd.
Also, can't figure out why they put the darn speaker on back/bottom of phone.
They are making it hard to buy it--imho and what I want from the phone--

Why should we have to root etc after spending so much money. And rooting method has problems.

Not familiar with it but will check it out---been a long time since I had to use something like that.
Heard of some methods that don't require root, but not sure if they have any issues.
I have been able to make my One S work with 16gb, but limited on music/photos/movie storage. Just think price is too high for 16gb--oh well. There may be no issue anyway--
Of course a 32gb model would eliminate that--hope to hear of a date for one--

No apps install to the external card. Only the internal storage paths. Sdcard0 is where extra data goes beyond secure core data for app installs.

Some apps check for root and then wont work. Google Play rented movies wont work on a rooted device. There is always a trade off with rooting and not rooting.

Fair point, considering it should work out of box and not have to jump through hoops to make it so. That said, it is ironic being root shy in this type of forum Must admit I agree and have not rooted the S3 since owning it. Worked fine since launch
Looks like I might be holding on to my 32gb S3 a lot longer than planned. Six of my Gameloft games will tap out the 9gb of storage.
Sad that even their own sales staff rebuttals on no 32gb version is you can install your apps to the Sd card and cloud. I am not kidding, since heard this line from two Verizon stores, one Att store and Verizon customer service. Lame and sad.
It sucks hearing about pepple getting their s4 soon and im going to have to wait until the 32gb comes out.
I have 16gb on my note 2 and its not too bad but if get a movie and updates to apps etc..you constantly have to keep moving it to sd card. When running to near capacity a lot it just seems like it runs a hair slower. Having more space will help.
Come on att release at least by june!!!! Im itching to back to the baby brother.

Here in South Africa Samsung only stocked 32GB variant
I don't get why they give you guys a 16GB model, but then again here in SA we are paying +$1000 sim free for it, got mine for the equivalent of $1060.
For those interested, the 32GB has around 23GB left over for the user.
Lucky you

Because US carriers like to screw their customers over, gouge them and Samsung doesn't care.
Oh and Verizon has confirmed they will NOT sell the 32GB SGS4. ATT is the only one with the "coming soon" comment on the ordering page that we know is going to offer it.

very good tablet to buy, congrats! from what it sounds like 16gb sounds good for you, but if available i recommend the 32gb because you never know when you need any extra storage. Have fun with it!
If you can swing the extra 50 dollars. Might as well go with the 32gb model of the nexus. That way you will have room to grow if you need the extra space.

This. While you may not need it today, there may be a situation when you will. I fly a lot and being able to store lots of music and movies internally was worth the extra $50 for a 32gb model. I also use my N7 to fly my AR Drone and I like being able to record its video direct to the tablet.

To be honest, for a tablet I would almost always recommend a 32gb or bigger version. First thing is that the 16gb nexus 7 is 199.99. The 32gb is 249.99. But, I have seen deals very often online selling the 32gb for 229.99. So, for 29.99 more, you can double your storage.
My biggest thing is, why not future proof yourself a little. 16gb is fine if you are going to use your tablet for internet browsing and streaming music. But if you want to download lots of new games (legit games like ea) then they will take up large chunks of storage. Also, if you plan to put music and movies, they will also eat up that storage. Especially movies. At least with a 32gb, you don't have to worry about swapping files in and out of the storage. Just my 2 cents.
I bought my 32gb nexus 7 for $229.99 no tax and free shipping from a power seller on ebay. Great shopping experience!
I have 32 gb version . I did upgrade from 16..And can tell you its awesome.. I have the multi rom recovery with multi booting .. Stock 4.2.1 Ubuntu . Cm 10 and sometimes a 4th rom if im bored..
Still have lots of space and do not have to worry about checking or moving things around to make room
So get the 32 if you can afford it .. but 16 can work..
good luck
I agree with the 32gb. 16 would probably suffice right now but this is a nexus device so it will have a long life. Granted I had a few bigger games on my 16gb but I was having to manage those regularly. I didn't even have media stored on the unit, just a few games.
In a year, apps and games are just going to be bigger. Plus the fact you are even on here should tell you to get the bigger version.

If you are planning on using this for a long time, get 32GB. I gave my 16GB to my sister and got a 32GB, I will always go fir the highest I can get.
Plus this thing is good for gaming as well so grab that 32GB.
I say go for the 32gb. I myself have the 16gb, but I don't play games on mine, nor store movies, (maybe books in the future, but cloud storage works for me). Plus I have StickMount and two 8gb flash drives.

I think you made the best choice its not to much more and some of the apps are quite big, its always good to have space just incase. I thougth 16 would be enough for me but man I was wrong. But than again when I had mine I only had the option of 16gb
I have the 16 and it's basically fine unless you put movies or games with giant data files on it. If you can swing it, 32gb is even better. But another option is to get 16 and wait for next year's Nexus tablet rollouts. I thought about upgrading to 32gb but decided at this point it is better to wait and see what Google has for us in May.

16 GB Is for my opinion too much little to be used as a true tablet.
It's true that you can expand the storage memory via stickmount, but it isn't so confortable tu be used with games or music or other stuff that you need to be in the tablet.
32 gb is for me the best choice
Get the 32GB.

This.. I have the 32gb, and while the wife and I may never have to use it all, it is nice knowing its there.
That said, given that you can use USB storage without rooting (read only of course), you can probably get away with 16gb and a $1 otg cable for your favorite thumb drive (this will work great for movies or music on a long trip, where you want lots of stuff you won't need saved on the device itself.)
My thing is that my phone has tons of storage and I won't need my Nexus to have everything on it. It really matters on what you plan to put on it, really. My phone holds my music and has great audio capabilities... I don't mind only having a few videos on my tablet and having the rest on my flash drive or phone. It really is up to personal preference.

no reason to keep backups on your phone at all. store them on your pc or backup drive. should something happen you can always push it to your phone, either manually via abd (push file /sdcard/) or nexus toolkit comfortably.
The space has not effected me very much at all. Compared to my 8 GB iPod Touch my 16 GB Nexus 4 is a luxury.

about 2gb free on the 8Gb version... I'll admit its a bit annoying at times, but overall not really an issue. The Google music, drive and box account for cloud storage basically take care of everything.
The saving grace is google music.. (did the hack to get it working in canada etc..) without that 8Gb would just not be enough at all.
4.2 gb
My last phone was a gs3 and I had a 32gb sd card in it. It being hooked up to sprint I personally couldn't rely I cloud services like I do now my service was that bad, and mind you I live in NY. having switched to A&tt is a lot better . Hi,
It's a 4.2.2 "Feature"
It's for the greater good. New generation NAND smokes microSD performance, and you don't wanna bottleneck your device by multitasking from SD. On the other hand 16GB should be dropped entirely, we're talking very minimal cost difference for Samsung, so why not start at 32gigs or 64 and go all the way up to 256? This is HD era, nothing comes in small size.

I did the same with the Galaxy S III though I can't understand why they delay the release of the 32GB that much.. I'm pretty sure a lot of people are waiting for that one, right?
And btw, you can put your music on the µSD card, it's just the installed apps that are a problem.
Thanks, yeah you are right. Not sure though if some apps will be smart enough to route downloaded music to my SD card??
While we're at it: My problem is basically the "cloudsync" and more so the "DocumentSync" folder, the latter is > 6 GB large! Anyone knows what that is?
I want to reduce this size, my phone is brand-new!

Swyped from another galaxy
Thanks, indeed. I deactivated all that cloud-syncing nonsense, which solved my problem for now. Now I have a few weeks or months until I have to think again what to do. :-/
Is "Swyped from another galaxy" that a joke on the Samsung Galaxy keyboard system? lol
You're probably looking at 24gb on the 32gb version so a bunch more memory.
Most people will in fact be fine with 9gb though, power users who download a lot of really inefficient apps that cache a lot of things and require a lot of storage should get the 32gb version. I personally will be fine with the 16gb version.
You may be right. I got 2.1 GB of apps for 151 apps, which averages out at 14 MB per app, while I had the feeling that most of my apps are less than 8 MB, oh well. -.-
I won't download any more apps though, but I am sure photographs and stuff will quickly snatch up the remaining 5 GB of space that I freed now...
Will try to find a setting to put my photos on the SD card by default. Any tips (or links to a thread / tutorial about that) are appreciated.

Yeah i am also waiting for the 32GB version because of the same reason.
my htc one s 16gb has 2gb dedicated to apps. for me plenty atm. that's independent of the 9.93 internal sdcard, don't know if s4 is same. however, as mentioned, 16gb phones are too small now days and i won't pay for the s4 till it gets 32gb on att and black--
also don't think i can post links to other forums per xda. but if you google "att 32gb s4", there is a link to an att forum specifically for the 32gb release and an active att moderator--just fyi

First of all.. If u want to store ur camera photos on sd card use camera zoom fx.. It's a very good camera app and there u can choose where to store the photos
The second.. U have 8,8 gb on stock firmware if u install a custom rom in a few weeks it will be more free space because of some bloatware installed on the stock and files we dont need i think.. Let the dev's do there great job

For photos there's a setting in the camera app which let's you select which storage to use. If it's not there use a file explorer to copy your photos across to your sd card.

It seems the 16gb S4 is still the only option at the moment in the UK, I originally cancelled my order when I found out about the internal memory issue and the fact you can't save apps to the sd card. If you root some of my banking apps won't work, so that is not an option, not that apps work all the time properly on the sd card anyway. Also if you rent films from Googlr these cache in internal memory.
So for all you 16gb owners what is the internal memory space left , what have you installed and how much of an inconvenience is it, if at all. Please be honest, I just want to see what you can get on each of your S4's. Are any of you struggling already or believe you might.
Your help here will make me decide whether I just bite the bullet and compromise with the 16gb. Thanks in advance.
I've been a bit more careful than usual, not installed any of the big storage hog games, disabled Document Sync (which inexplicably tries to fill the internal storage with dropbox content), moved TomTom data to the SD card, and now have about 100 applications installed and 6Gb of space left. Not really a problem for me as yet, I'm using DiskUsage to monitor the situation. I'm also dithering about the One, but at the moment I'd rather have the 9Gb+64Gb SD card than the One's 25Gb. Might change if I have problems later and the One gets a 64Gb variant.
Thanks for feedback. One of my friends has only 2.5gb free now and hasn't installed any of his fav games. No room if he tried.
Anybody else got feedback.
it's kind of dumb that it has this amazing quad core processor and one of the best phone gpu's around and yet, you cant even install all the best games on it... lol
I think a potential cure will be for android itself to have a proper api to utilize external SD for heavy resources like those in the obb folder.
Unfortunately I don't think google will support this since they have been on a no SD card agenda for quite a while now.

Rooting isn't the cure. I know for a fact that some of the banking apps won't work with a rooted device. Also, internal memory functions better so don't mind all apps being there but really need a bigger memory to start off with.
how to disable document sync?
DocumentSync is solved see : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261385

I am managing quite well, this is with around a 100 different apps, varying in size. With Spotify playlist download of a 100 songs. I will be happy when Samsung will fix this issue.

For me the 9Gb of storage is enough i don't generally game on my phone, and only install what i use, music, vids & pictures all go onto my SD card.
But i think the S4 should have launched at 32Gb this time around, back in the day the S1 launched with 8Gb, when the S2 came it was bumped upto 16Gb at launch
I think the easiest option really would be for Samsung to come up with a way to allow you to save apps to SD card, even though Jellybean doesn't have this feature.
I do think though when the S5 arrives next year 32Gb will be standard, with options of 64Gb & 128Gb to.
I don't have any problems... Lots of apps and a few games installed... Batman, GTA, mini motor... I don't have much time to play but nice with the opportunity

Very well as I installed foldermount and folder downloader so Dropbox and games are stored in the external so got plenty of space left for apps. Also INT2EXT will be fixed soon for the s4

Agree! FolderMount is great for this phone.
Sendt fra SGS4
Doesn't bother me at all as I don't game on my phone. If you're a gamer then it might sting a little but apart from that music is via google play and photos in the 32 gig SD card
I store my ROM and app backups on my external SD (32 GB G-Skill class 6).
Decided to return the Ultra just before the 30 day mark. Coming from a S4 that was 16gb with a 64gb SD card in it, there's just no way I can squeeze into a 16gb only phone. The size of my DCIM folder on my S4 is 9gb..I haven't moved much of anything to the Ultra yet and it only has 7.*gb free. I was going to take today and get the Maxx where I think I can work with 32gb, but I am going to wait and see how the G2 feels. If I like that I'll go that route or switch to the Maxx.
I love everything about the Ultra. The battery life is even better than my S4.
When does the g2 come out?

So as far as the phone itself you had no problems with it? it was simply a storage issue? Just wondering as I'm also coming from an S4... completely different experience.

Current estimated date is around Sept. 13.
It really is a shame that the Ultra only has 16GB... Too bad they couldn't incorporate an SD slot into the Ultra. The G2 seems like an okay phone on paper - at least you will have a lot of options to choose from in the coming month. Good luck.

The phone itself is great.. It's snappier than the s4 and feels sturdier. Software is bland Android, meaning no touchwiz type stuff. If it were only 32gb I'd keep it.

It's a huge shame... Why on earth they think 16gb is enough with no expansion is beyond me. The G2 looks amazing. It's thinner than the Note 2 and lighter than the Maxx, but slightly thicker. 8.6mm to 8.9mm. Think it may be the way to go.

Yes it is only 14 days to return and also a 1 time deal. You can only exchange it back 1 time and that's it.

Also looking at where Google I'd headed 16gb is going to be good. Everything is heading to cloud. Look how easy pics load up to g+ and Google drive. Take the chrome book laptops for instance they only have like 8-16gb but you get 100gb of storage from drive.

Yeah, everything is headed to the cloud but I'm still a fan of flashing custom ROMs and have already run into an issue with limited on board storage with my DNA. I can only make one backup of a ROM before running out of space. Yes, I could move it to my computer, but I prefer have a stable backup on the device in case things go screwy on the go...
Cloud can be convenient and all, but I guess I'm a little more old school.
At 14 days I will pack it and ship back today. I had Dropbox pulling all pics and vids I take, but I still like to have them local... Some things I don't want in a cloud. As cheap as storage is, 16gb phones should be eliminated... Imo

Why do you guys complain about storage when everything is in the cloud. It makes no sense the things people complain about. Every time I sign into an android phone I get all my info. Pictures, contacts, music. Documents from Google drive and keep. If you guys are true android users why not use what Google offers you for Free. Just my two cents.

Not everyone has unlimited data or access to a constant wifi connection. It makes perfect sense why some people complain about it.
I'm returning my MAXX as well, it's just not worth the price coming from a Note 2.
FYI if you do a return you can do as many as you want, I did it with 3 phones, but when you say you want to exchange it you can only do it once.

I take it you don't travel. Some places where I do travel its spotty at best. So taking the cloud isn't as easy as you think. Yes there are location in the US that do not have great connection.
