Hey Guys,
I am sorry for opening this, i know there are similar threads but not able to find those.
I am in a confusion.. below are the offers for the two phones..
Galaxy S2 (Rs. 29500/- around 600$)
Galaxy Nexus (Rs. 30500/- around 620$)
just not able to decide which one to buy, both have their own Pros and Cons..
S2 has better camera, external storage option and better Processor.
GNex has better Screen, AOSP and fast updates.
Pls help me in deciding which one to buy.
Thanks
Well do you listen to music and if you do that, do you like good sound quality?

have an ipod for Music.. but off course will prefer good sound quality on cell phones when i am paying so much
Personally, Nexus all day for me. ICS is by far the best iteration of android and you'll get the real deal with the nexus, not some skinned, bloated version. Also, better screen for web browsing, and apparently better sound quality for music.
The SGS2 was and still is a fantastic phone, but the game has been moved on IMO.
If I should have invested another 20$ before I would have a better screen and updated software
Gnex.

there's a huge difference in quadrant scores, and in higher end gaming =S there are currently games only available through samsung apps on the SGS2 because it has a superior GPU as of right now
The Gnex unfortunately got shafted with the camera and processing hardware... everything else is pretty good.
..Galaxy S II is better in all ways and prettyer ...nexus is only better because google orginal android look and OS updates....only you can decide!!!

Nexus is not launched in India, but the dealer is telling me he will take care of the warranty.
Screen nicer on Galaxy Nexus but I don't think I could live with 16GB storage. Very happy with my SGS2 with 16+32GB
I got a SGS2 and its a great phone.
But i have to say, if you are interested in development, go for the Galaxy Nexus.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
You need to think about practicality. If you use your phone a lot searching the web and watching videos, then the GalNex is the best choice (maybe you could consider the Note). Also software wise the GalNex is the winner too because it will most likely have a longer period when it will recieve updates. Also is better for development.,On the other hand if you want a power-house, take photos and movies with your phone daily and play games with more "advanced" graphics smoother you should consider the S2 (or again, the Note). In the end they are both great handsets. It onlymatters how practically you find them using on day by day schedule.
I will try to sell my SGS2 to get a Nexus. Samsung is starting to annoy me with their dev "support" and I would like a Nexus device. I'm personally changing because of dev and rom support and of course the screen looks great. As for 16gb, I've been using a 16gb iPhone for 3 years and just now it's starting to be just slightly small but I can easily manage.

No, they aren't all on HOX, in fact most aren't. Watch again.
HTC doesn't have s-beam.
S-beam isn't NFC, it uses NFC to start a Wi-Fi direct connection to transfer files.
HOX doesn't have it.
You should take your own advice and read more before you post about something you don't understand.

I had the One X and after a day with the S3 i can say i kills the One X in so many ways. Usebility, sound, screen, so many different options you can choose, better email client, better keyboard, much much better battery life. Don`t get me wrong, the One X isn`t a bad phone at all but the S3 is superior to it.
I have 5,5 hrs. screentime after the 1st charge :victory:

Both email clients have their advantages over the other. The gs3 is a great phone but:
The screen is nowhere near as readable in bright conditions (and the dark themes are not helping)
The radio on the One X is heaps better. Has more bars and I can make calls where the Samsung drops out.
Haven't quite decided which one to keep and other than the above points the differences are not that not (except the sd card and battery of course)
Don't know why people bag the gs3 design either.....I think it's just fine!
If Samsung had put the best materials in SG3, would not discuss what the best phone. That's my opinion.
Yesterday Ive put galaxy s3 and hox side by side with a friend and now my friend wants too trade, but I still don't Luke Samsung
I don't like the design, the GPS performance and the UI. Still a lover for sense. Inside on an old building ive got 2bars off network and none on samsung. I make a call and didn't work on samsung.
Bluethoot integracion with my fiat works better with hox than samsung. For some reason I can't copy my contacts from samsung to my car, that's kill me.
Htc have much more options for personalization than galaxy s3. Ok we can put cm9 and miui and transforme this phone's completly and turn daily use the same cheat
The things I like on samsung its only 3. Dialer with 3g video call, better camera on video and the back speaker its much better
That's my review

My guess is that the (US) version with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor will use the build-in audio DAC in the Krait SoC, and the (EU) version with the Samsung Exynos 5 octa processor will use a separate Wolfson Audio DAC
-Sam-
US version uses Qualcomm's native audio. No Wolfson.

Wait for international version. Very less information about that so far.

It will be as I was (logically) guessing
The "secret" International version will be the one to get or the One from HTC
The ONE will have Krait audio also -- probably same as US GS4.

That's my guess too, but I'm anxious to hear confirmation.
Is the audio completely within the Krait SOC, or does it use an external WCD93xx chip like MSM8960 etc. ?
Can I ask this question here please, I don't think it warrants a new thread...?
What does the Galaxy S4 (for those who have heard it) sound like on loudspeaker for audio, like music and video etc., when compared to other devices generally, excluding HTC One?
I'm not familiar with Samsung at all. Are they one of the better quality devices, how did the S3 rank against others?
Thanks, just wondering!

To you and the guy asking if the s4 will have good loudspeakers...I have yet to hear speakers on any phone...here's an analogy(right word?) You don't buy a laptop expecting good speakers, so you shouldn't buy a phone expecting good speakers...I mean a phone really can't fit good sounding speakers...then again I may be a little harsh as I am somewhat of an audiophile...studio monitors for my computer speakers and studio headphones for my music on the go...

While that's true, there are relative differences between the "quality" of the sounds coming from these devices speaker setups. Some ARE better than others. I think that was the intent of the question. I MO one of the weakest areas of Samson's devices are the internal speakers. HTC seems to be addressing that.

based on images I have seen the loudspeaker seems larger than the one in the S3
the DROID incredible (original) had a nice speaker (could even output some decent lows)
Samsung Omnia 2 had some of the best speakers (Stereo baby!!!!) I have ever heard in a mobile phone.
even though I am not a huge fan of Bose™ , they could probably create some nice clarity out of some micro waveguide design

I agree, Wolfson or bust!
All of the GS4's internal are pretty much the current top of the line stuff, if they cheap out on the DAC, that would be quite absurd. I read that manufacturing cost of GS4 is higher by 15% from GS3, let's just hope it will translate to the stuff that we will get.
i definitely agree to the above posts. wolfson or nothing! i'm still using my nexus s because of it and voodoo of course. however, i gave my S2 to the wifey because of the inferior sound quality. she doesn't care anyway.

hello guys. i am looking for a new smartphone to replace my galaxy nexus. is a good phone but sometimes it shows his age in some apps.
i live in brazil so i can buy nexus 4 for R$1140 that is 512USD, and galaxy s4 octa is R$1685 that is 755USD. i love pure stock android but the hardware and camera of galaxy s4 is amazing. but the laggy touchwiz and only 9gb of space available makes me a bit worried. so i want to know if the pros of gs4 worth the 243USD more.
thanks
EDIT:i will sell my galaxy nexus for R$800, 359USD.

Can you think of anything the octa core processor can run that the quad core can't? How much is a cell phone camera worth to you? Are you looking to take professional grade photos with a phone? Which device has a better chance of running stock android? I would go with the nexus.

I would go for the Nexus. The Octa in the S4 can only run 4 cores at a time, so it isn't a true octa core processor, its a BIG.little chip. If you have the chance to get an HTC One, then I would go for that for the build quality

It depends on how much you value the camera and storage of the GS4 but overall I'd say no, the GS4 isn't worth $243 more.
Thank you guys. After read all the answers I noticed that everyone says that s4 do not worth the additional price. I will sell my gnex and buy a nexus 4. When I put all the pros and cons of both phones for my needing n4 is the winner. My opinion for who is in the same dillema:
S4 pros-
Camera
Raw power
Bigger screen
S4 cons-
More expensive
Touchwiz and Samsung bloat.
Bad big.little management (cluster migration)
Only 9gb for the user in 16gb model.
N4 pros-
Cheaper
Stock android
Lots of Roms that I am already used in gnex like PA.
Can run any game that s4 runs.
N4 Cons-
Smaller screen
Touch not so good as gnex
Camera not so good as s4 but better than gnex, so for me is enough.
So the cons on the n4 will not ruin my experience, is like a PC upgrade I will just upgrade the hardware and run the same software that I used to. Thank you guys to help me decide and save some money.

I would advise you to wait for snapdragon800. The nexus 4 for 500$ is expensive.
Wait for the upgraded galaxy S4 or a new nexus that should have the snapdragon800 SoC.
Also, check the rumored sony honami that is said to be announced in a few days, snapdragon800, 20mpx camera with 4k video recording.
So if you could wait a little it will be a big upgrade for you from a galaxy nexus, bigger than to either n4 or s4.

s800 SoC supports 3GB of RAM , 4k video recording, 2k displays, and additional ports... oh, and a new stronger adreno 330 gpu.
in no way i find it overkill if you use your hardware for more than calls/sms, especially when implemented in tablets. Furthermore, as ubuntu for android (not ubuntu touch) should be coming out by the end of the year, i'm pretty sure the s800 should provide better performance in that field.

You're comparing a SoC to a phone as a whole?
If you take a wider look, running a 1080p display, a bigger camera sensor, not to mention the low level software tweaking and optimizations like project butter and other under the hood ones, etc.. requires a lot of processing power.
And with your logic, we don't need 1080p displays, or camera hardware similar to that in p&s ones, it's all overkill.
Did you know that the n4 gives a higher fps result when playing games than an s4 ? It just tells you that the s600 is not capable of pushing all those pixels and maintaining the same fluidity as it would on 720p.
Snapdragon800 is in no way an overkill to mobile devices, it's just a result of the evolution of technology. Other hardware parts are also evolving.
And p.s. s800 supports usb 3.0 , but why would anyone want faster data transfer rates, it's all overkill !

Definitely the N4, even though S4 has a system dump already for the 4.3, Nexus devices will have it eventually.

Actually yes 1080p displays are definitely overkill IMO. I know that the N4 gets better FPS than the GS4 but that's NOT the same as saying the GS4 gets low FPS. Games are more than perfectly playable at the 40-60 FPS that the GS4 manages on ultra high settings on Real Racing 3. As you said though it's not all about the SoC and it's fairly clear that the GS4's software is poorly optimised seeing as it lags even when scrolling through the home screen. If I'm not mistaken the Adreno 320 is supposed to be capable of handling multiple 1080p displays at once.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of mobile technology advancing, but I wouldn't recommend a more expensive device over such a small increase in performance.

ok, i think i get your point now. i respect your opinion, but i don't agree with it (and that's cool).
1080p is actually quite beautiful when you have a big display (5") and no on screen buttons eating up space. watching a youtube video on full HD is really nice, the sharpness and color distribution also (noticeable when comparing both pentile on s3 and s4).
Anyways, all i wanted to say in my first post is that it's July already, and that a new generation of SoC is coming, and it's gonna be a pretty big upgrade. furthermore, we're all expecting a new nexus in Q4 right? i'm pretty sure we're gonna see an s800 in there, and hopefully Google will keep it's pricing strategy. i think a 3 months wait (till Oct/Nov) is worth it, i'm pretty sure OP's galaxy nexus could live that long, it's not that he has a low end device.
just to add one more thought, i'm aware that my nexus 4 will be more than capable to run ubuntu for android for example, but i'm pretty sure a nexus with an s800 would be even more capable. Or maybe i'm the only one getting excited about turning my phone into a dockable remote PC
Are all variants of the Note 4 using the Wolfson DAC?
Only the Exynos ones use the WM5110.

Will the voodoo/wolfson type mods work with proper kernel support?
Sure.
Oh this hurts, :crying:
What DAC does the Snapdragon use, snapdragon itself?
I've had a very satisfying experience with the Wolfson DAC on my Note 2.
I remember having to suffer with the crappy Yamaha Codec that was found in the Galaxy S2 and Note 1.

Built-in WCD 9330 DAC for SD805 variant....

If people are listening to compressed content on <$100 headphones the Wolfson DAC isn't going to help them.

I guess it's alright, but nothing special. Probably does a decent job.
For a $750+ device, I would really appreciate the Wolfson DAC, especially since I do consider myself an audiophile. The Yahama Codec in the S2 and Original was awful, haha.
I was really hoping for a similar quality of audio in the Note 4, there is just so much you can do tuning a wolfson chip that can't be done with the soc snapdragon- I recently got into some of their documentation and was able to adjust the bands of the "Retune" equalizer of the wolfson DAC at least in the Note 2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/adjust-parametric-equalizer-wolfson-dac-t2903392)
It seems like upgrading to a Note 4 at least for the USA models is a step back as far as audio goes.

What has NOT been available is a way to adjust the frequency, bandwidth of the bands.

Ehhhhhh. I made that available for both the S3/N2/S4 and even calibrated the rear speaker frequency response for those devices.
Not my fault that other devs refused to adopt it (similar to the display controls). I can get the whole thing running on the N4 in like 1-2 hours once I have it in my hands.
If you are truly an audiophile you need to go and by a separate dedicated dac. Me personally, I will be happy if u can get vyper to work.

I use mine with a diy cmoy amp and a pair of JVC HA-S500 (cheap but cheerful), like I did with the S3. I'm quite glad I went for the exynos after seeing this thread, I wasn't aware of any differences in audio quality between the two.

Sorry for not giving you credit, I looked for days and couldn't find a thing--if you give me the link I will update my post.

He will get Exynos version.
Andrei's Perseus kernel FTW, the audio quality from the Wolfson DAC on my Exynos S4 with Perseus + Synapse is incredible.
(If this TRULY matters to you, DONATE to the cause... I have already, and I don't even own the device yet!: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/note-4-exynos-development-device/x/8868000 )
so the s2 i9100 had a wolfson? must have been one of thier failures, because my s2 sounds like ass...
