Because you're in "Download mode", not Recovery mode.
Press Volume UP/Power/Home at same time to get to Recovery

I came from htc and recovey is a lil different thats why im asking all the noob questions. ..

Try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228188

There is no working recovery for it yet. The bootloader is locked and no dev is working on yet. They won't start working on it till they can get a Odin ROM so they can fix it if it soft bricks

[Q] my wifes my touch 4g stopped working after she was charging it.

Her phone is not rooted and she didn't try to mess with it. She was just charging it and it just stays stuck on the "mytouch 4g" screen. I can get into the recovery but none of the options work. I press on factory reset but it just gets stuck on the mytouch screen and nothing happens.I've left it for like 15 mins and nothing happens. Does anyone know what is wrong with it. Not even factory reset works

Try downloading the unrooted gingerbread update in the Mt4g forums and flash it if you get the pu fail error then the phone is dead but you can get a free replacement from tmobile if that is the case

The phone turns on so I don't know why it would be "dead" I mean it's not bricked. Also can't get a new one bought it on craigslist a while back.

clicked on fastboot (cuz bootloader option is in there) and gave me some lines and said wrong image or file). And when I click on it again it now gives me the option to select bootloader (first time it didn't even give me an option to click on bootloader option it just ran by it self) and it just goes back to the original screen that says fastboot, recovery, factory reset,sim lock,and image crc. And yes I did rename it and put it in the root of my SD card
I still hit the thanks button for trying to help me out.

Try doing it again from fastboot make sure the file is named correctly

This is after turning on with vol- and power button? Ryt?
Yeah, also when going to ROM manager and goo reboot recovery, it dims screen and the capacitive buttons freak out for a second then the screen stays the same. Now the phone won't boot either, it does the same thing with the buttons freak out, I was running some gingerbread ROM, came with it rooted and stuff. Can I just flash sbf with no issues since the boot loader is locked?

Will test when I get home cause I can still get to boot loader and recovery error

The usual really, try easy flasher to bring it back to stock and start fresh (back up first)... sometimes roms/kernels seem to leave stuff behind that makes it act funky.
Are you trying 'reboot to recovery? Are you also trying the VolDn + Power then VolUp method?
None of them work?

Bricked Galaxy S4

This is extremely frustrating.
I successfully rooted my galaxy s4.
I then downloaded CMW and touch, and downloaded this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341376
I then booted into recovery, and wiped etc and then installed the rom. I read on the later part of that page that there wasn't a need for loki so I did not download loki.
I then rebooted, and got the yellow triangle sign saying that the software is not approved by ATT.
This is where I am stuck. I have a mac and am running vmware windows 8.
I tried downloading kies on the mac, and it does not recognize the phone. I did not try kies for windows yet, nor do I know what to do after if I am able to get kies to recognize the s4.
I also downloaded odin, and the firmware, but odin is not recognizing the phone under windows even when I select to use the phone under windows.
I tried the stock usb cable, and a different usb cable, and 2 different usb ports. I do not have a regular windows computer. Is there a way to do this with a mac?
Guess I should have downloaded the loki, is not downloading the loki the whole reason this is happening?
I appreciate everyones help! I just wanted stock android! :good:
I do not have a s4 but have a s2 but its like the same.
1. Why would you not already have Odin installed and kies?! Just in case
2. No backup made?...
3. Can you still get into recovery and download mode if so then you have hope.. wait for someone to give you steps to get out of this
4. If you can't get into either... well :banghead:

2. I made a backup using titanium backup but not really sure how it works... I've never restored from a backup using titanium
3.Yes I am able to get into download mode by holding the volume, home and power key...

Mmm alright... Go into download mode and take out your SD card and download the Loki file in the ROM thread then transfer to sdcard on PC. Then place back in phone.. Then go intro recovery and flash the file and it should work.
But wait before anything can you get into recovery? If so then you go to mounts and storage and mount sdcard and transfer the Loki file from your PC right there.

I have installed kies on the windows version and it notices the phone is connected, but it just keeps saying "connecting..." and a little thing spinning. Not sure how long it should take to connect...
why not download the loki zip to sd card, then put back on phone, reboot to recovery and install from sd card...

the OP of that ROM lists these specific installation instructions:
HOW TO INSTALL:
* Download the ROM (NO NEED FOR GAPPS)
* Reboot to Recovery
* Wipe data/factory reset
* Flash the ROM
* U.S. MODELS - Flash Loki Patch - http://tau.shadowchild.nl/files/loki-doki.zip (CANADIAN USERS DO NOT INSTALL)
* Reboot your Galaxy S4
* Enjoy
remember to read everything first and understand what you are doing before proceeding. cheers
And only 5 simple steps. One sec of reading. And it matters. Or kaboom.

Problem With TWRP Recovery

Sometimes. When I Reboot Into Recovery Mood. To Flash A Rom. The Phone Reboots Then The TWRP Logo Comes On With The Blue Screen. Then It Just Stays There? Doesn't Load Into Recovery. But Sometimes It Does. But It Freeze More On TWPR Logo. And I Have To Bring The Battery Out. Put Back In. And Do It Again Then Goes Into Recovery It Self. Is There Something Wrong With My TWRP Recovery?? Any Ideas

That is a known problem with 2.6.0.0
You need to d/l 2.5.0.2
You can find the link in this forum.
Try this link for using with mobile Odin lite.
http://db.tt/fx5Z70vq
This link can be flashed using your version of TWRP.
http://db.tt/CZmXST5v
EDIT: This seems to have been fixed in 2.6.1.0

I don't know why there is a difference but I am using 2.6.0.0 and I experienced the freeze a couple of times. Which you only need to hold the power button until it reboots instead of pulling the battery. Since I started using my Extended Power Menu to boot into recovery that way I have not experienced a hang once. So it must be something with trying to cold boot into recovery, which I almost never do now.
