I know I'm probably going to get classed as a newbie now, but is it ever going to be possible to run the touchwiz front end on our Nexus 10s I know there lots of tie ins with the Samsung framework, but surely there must be a way of doing it as the nexus is made by Samsung so surely there must be some Samsung tie in in the actual framework of our tablets.
Cheers

Samsung make the unit, but have nothing to do with the software beyond the essential parts related to the hardware.
I am sorry if I sound as a troll, but why someone would like that horrible, sluggish and limited interface? I have a Galaxy S2 and I've used the last two incarnations of Touchwiz for almost one year... then I moved to Trebuchet and there is no way go go back.
Thats a bit unfair. It might not be visually to your taste, but its no slower than stock, in fact I often find it smoother.
There is maybe at best a 1% chance of a real touchwiz interface being ported. And a just slightly better chance of a fake interface being ported (just UI mods, no actual touchwiz functionality)
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies, Yeah I know there are haters and likers of the Touchwiz interface and to be honest I quite like it. I've been using it on my Samsung Galaxy Note II and I really have grown attached to it XD haha it probably isn't the fastest and slickest of launchers, but at the end of the day it's personal choice.

The problem is that the N10's biggest market is stock Android fans. As such, good luck finding someone willing to put in whatever effort is needed to make it happen.
Not to mention that the touchwiz software is proprietary and probably wouldn't be able to be posted here... Mabey I'm wrong tho

My Note 2 using a touchwiz ROM is so much faster than my aokp Nexus 10 its depressing. I hate the amount of lag I have on my Nexus 10.

Well, that is easy to explain. First of all, the Note 2 has a quad core CPU, second of all the unit has to compute only a quarter of the amount of pixels per second for the display.
Ergo the Note 2 has an easier job.
If you don't like the N10, sell it. I was stuck with a LG phone for a year, and was mad at that piece of **** every single second I looked at it. Idk why I didn't sold it earlier, but it was a wise choice to sell it at all, and get myself a S3.

Well my point more was to the person who said Touchwiz was a laggy piece of trash. I was just stating that the Note 2 is actually far smoother than the Nexus 10.
But I probably will sell it. I bought an iPad 4 not too long ago and since then have barely touched my Nexus.
I am actually enjoying my Nexus 10 after root and CM10.1. However, I wouldn't likt touchwiz as much as I would like s pen support for note taking and sketching, and some features of the note 10.1 like the aNote HD would be awesome. Other than that it is an awesome tablet.

You aren't going to get spen support even if someone somehow ported touchwiz. That has to do with the actual hardware of the display.
May as well get a Note 10.1

I imported the GSM Nexus, had it for 3 weeks, then sold it to get the note.
Once the newness of ICS wore off, it was just another average phone with a poor camera.
No regrets at all.

She even went as far as to call it "Lisa's Christmas Toy" which I love! haha. She is a fantastic youtuber and reviewer in general. I always look first for her own reviews. I decided to buy it after watching that review, and her making a few statements about it on twitter
i have the note, my brother has the galaxy s 2, and another friend has the cdma nexus.
The note is the best of the three. The nexus is probably the best looking in my opinion and it also feels the best in your hand.
The SII has a much better camera than the other two though. The nexus is probably the most responsive as well although it could be because his phone was brand new and mine was already rooted and running custom launchers and whatnot

Had to google it to make sure its real. but thats got to be one of the best placenames ever
I have both the internation Note and the GSM Galaxy Nexus. I really like them both, I prefer the Nexus when it comes to feel in the hand and portability, but like I've said before overall I just enjoy using/playing with the Note. I know people moan and whine about manufacturer overlays like TouchWiz, but when it comes down to it it's just stock Android. People constantly add all kinds of 3rd party widgets and apps, and then none of them flow together, where at least everything has a similar style on a manufacturer customization. The Nexus is a little smoother/faster, but the Note has better battery life, better camera, little bit higher screen resolution, plus I feel like games and stuff work nicer on the Note. Also the whole stylus feature is pretty awesome. Oh also expandable memory. I switch back and forth between my Focus, Note, and Nexus. Out of the 3 I feel like I'd be most likely to sell off the Nexus first.
I think it's a bit of a shame that the Note doesn't have NFC, I want to get the Note soon but I'd like to be able to use Google Wallet with it too

Well as 99% of you know the SIII has been launched, with a whole host of software features.
What are the chances of us getting some of these features? A couple that appeal to me are the Music Hub (newer less usless version) and the new dongle that mirror to the TV.
It'd be great to get these features.
(Could this be the reason ICS got delayed?)
We gets the hubs for music, movies and the others.
Faceunlock but if u close your eyes and the screen goes off this feature is only for sgs3 and the videofrature too.

I would like to see the improved camera software for our Note, such as faster shutter speed (current speed annoys me compared to my SGS1 Epic 4G which has a super fast shutter) and 3.3 second between shots.
I'm very interested in the AllShare Cast wireless streaming dongle.
I can't see any reason it wouldn't be offered for the Note, or any modern Samsung device for that matter.

hope our NOTE meet the hardware requirement....
We will get all of them soon...Just give our devs couple of months
What about the Siri clone? You think we will get it?
Well, if we do get it (and im sure eventually in time it will be), the only thing that I'm pretty sure we won't ever get is NFC... (this is after all the International Note version thread), this needs the hardware part... which I'm pretty sure our Note lacks the better part of it as well.
I feel like a good chunk if not almost all of these features could be ported to our Notes. Seeing as they've said that the quad core Exynos is supposed to be pin for pin identical to the dual cores in the fact that they can be changed out without having to alter your design I'd have to think the whole setup is similar, but I'm just guessing. The biggest thing I've been wondering about is with the whole zero shutter lag. Is it possible to port or give our older phones this ability? I don't know if new hardware is physically required or if it's all software? If my Note could have zero shutter lag, or even much faster shutter speeds and ICS. I'm perfectly happy without the SIII.

It would be interesting if they held the Note's ICS update back, so they can show off all the new features on their flagship first. Rather than the S3 announcement essentially being; 'Its got all the features of the Note but its smaller and has no SPen'

Whilst I'm not a fan of threads such as this (prefer waiting), you are likely on the money. With 3 million Notes sold and S3 launch, you don't want to steal the new arrivals thunder!
Nexus S ICS was on Google Employees handsets for ages before publically released as Google needed to get units of Galaxy Nexus shifted.
Any timeframe extension the inhouse devs might have been given to allow for the launch of the S3 (in developing ICS mainstream Samsung build, Note extras and other device specific extras for say S2 for example) can only be a good thing.

You stole the words right out of my mouth.
I personally feel that most of the features should be able to get ported, especially the new TouchWiz Launcher Nature UX. Its essentially got the ICS stock feel with a Widget tab while allowing transparency.
I am hoping to get the ROM ported with features from the note, mainly SMemo stuff over to the note, that would be a delight.
Good Luck Dev's
I am not really impressed with the SIII, I am not saying it's bad rather it's awesome and I would have wanted it on day one had I not had my GNote. 4.8 is still small and it feels awkward saying that.
Coming to your question, who knows it might all be the ICS Update, if not then in Note II definitely.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
This is what i posted in the main ICS thread & this is what I feel..
I think Galaxy note will get ICS updates inline with Galaxy S2 with the addition of premium suite. Both of them are previous years's model.
Galaxy note 2 & Galaxy S3 will have same feature set.
From business point of view if Galaxy note gets the features then Galaxy note 2 will be only a hardware upgrade. Well that wouldnt create the hype would it ?
Regarding porting to our note our devs will certainly turn the magic wheels....
I am leaning towards the PORT and not a Samsung Supported update due to the same reason of Productization and ensuring that the customer can differentiate between the Note and the SGS III, otherwise the Note will win with the features and screen size, but lacking the Quad Core.
I also feel with a complete ICS build running on the Note it probably won't be that much slower than the GSIII despite dual vs. quad. Heck people said it's the same GPU just overclocked right? As for Note 2 I wouldn't be surprised if they introduce some new features. Maybe HD SuperAMOLED+? Wasn't the Note the first Samsung phone to have the HD Screen, GLONASS, S-Pen, etc?
As for some of the new features my Droid Charge which is basically just Galaxy S hardware has the newer launcher, widgets, and some of the features from the Galaxy SII. So I think we could see stuff brought to our Note!!

Exactly, he isn't even posing in the development forum so he's allowed to talk about stuff that isn't related to development.
The s2 is still a great phone and holds its own even compared to the s3. If you can afford to upgrade it's worth it for the screen alone but it won't be a life changing experience.
The s2 will still be perfectly relevant for the next 12 months though so there is no point upgrading if you don't want to spend the cash.
The only reason I got one is I became frustrated with the limited storage capacity of the galaxy nexus. If I had an s2 I may not have bothered and now that I have an s3 I may just skip the s4 and get an s5.

I went from S2 to S3, so I'll give you my opinion:
- S3 looks much better to me. I generally prefer curved phones to rectangular ones. I have the so called blue version, which actually is gray and looks much much better than the pictures on reviews.
- S3 is actually easier to hold in your hand because it's curved and it doesn't have any thick parts like S2's bottom.
- S3 has a much larger screen without having a much larger case. It still fits in my pocket and can be used single handedly, so the extra screen size is all good.
- S3 has a much faster camera. Zero shutter lag makes a big difference.
- S3 has the best battery life I've seen in a phone. I torture it all day with heavy use and when I get home I still have 40%. My S2 had to be charged during the day.
- S3 has the best GPS I've seen in a phone. It's amazing how fast and accurate the GPS is.
What's not better is:
- S2 is just as fast. Extra 2 cores on S3 add nothing to real world user experience. Ignore benchmarks.
- Wake up lag is still here. Damn you Samsung. How hard can it be to make a phone that wakes instantly? Everyone else does it.
- Physical home button is still here. It's still an ergonomical fail. Actually the home button on S3 is even harder to use than S2, so navigation bar with soft keys is a must.
So, in short, I think it is a worthy upgrade from S2.

If that was directed at me thanks for the suggestion, I did consider it, but I'm not sure I can spend another nine months limiting the amount of music on my phone in case I want to record a video. Sadly it looks like Google will never produce another device with a micro sd slot as they are all about the cloud these days. If everyone in the world had unlimited data that would be great but we don't so I'm here.

Xperia Z1 looks tempting for it's 20.7mp camera, it gets much love from the AOSP crowd and CM, however the screen looks unsaturated and the bezel is huge as Nexus 7. This sure is a tough decision. Note 3 is perfect in every way but freakin' Samsung sources makes flashing to AOSP roms obsolete. There's pro and cons. There really isn't a perfect phone in the market is there?:crying:

Whatever people say, samsung really made android commercial which the htc was unable to do in the past. The initial TW on galaxy S and the note 1 evolved greatly and now bears really capable features. Those who are tired of it can move but those who dont want to root or custom flash their devices can enjoy the stock loaded android with many special features like the multiwindow the scrapbook, new S note and obviously the s pen.
Let others do complains about samsung. I am among those who appreciate their hard work and tribute to them to make my note 1 functional and up to date even after 2 years.

That was my concern, too. I searched and found Note 2 did not have the problem. So, I believe Note 3 also does not have the problem. Cannot wait.

I wait to see more custom CM 10.2 rom (or up) popping up before going in.
I probably could never go back to touchwiz after cyanmod...
I was wondering How many people are buying nexus 6 because of lollipop? I for one am.
Imagine for a moment if Note 4 also came with pure lollipop with no crappy touchwiz which would you buy? I didn't think i would say this but i would buy note 4 and I hate samsung because of plastic and touchwiz.
Galaxy Note 4 hardware wise is far superior in almost every dept, better camera, LED notification, S Pen, better and brighter screen, better design, finger print, sd card.
Speakers would definetly go to Nexus 6 and bigger screen butnot better screen.
Biggest let down on note 4 TOUCHWIZ which is a complete put off.
I've been waiting for nexus 6 for a little while now and have bought Note 4 recently which actually is better then i expected and does look premium and if i was to remove the dreaded TOUCHWIZ it's a very appealing phone. Now i'm considering waiting for custom roms rather then buy nexus 6!!! Or can someone convince me otherwise, perhaps i've missed some nexus pro's.
Aosp roms on the note 3 were not reliable. I expect the same for the note 4.
I've never liked the samsung cameras... my s4 and note 3 had TERRIBLE autofocus. I also didn't like the way it processed pictures. For the most part, I want a decent camera but I dont need an amazing camera.
If software were the same, (no touchwiz), I still think the nexus 6 looks better, has dual front facing speakers, and a larger screen.

hmm..that's a good point But surely lollipop would be fine.
I'm getting one because of the development potential. Also it will be my first nexus (2nd Motorola). Currently am on LG G3. That will now go to the wife, since she loves the camera.

The camera autofocus works brilliantly on the note 4 much improved, it's probably the best phone camera out there. Better then iphone and xperia z3.
I would definitely buy a Note 4 if it didn't have TouchWiz. IMO, TouchWiz is very ugly, cluttered, and drags the performance down to an unacceptable level. I have used every Galaxy S and Note extensively, but I have not bought a phone from Samsung since the S2.

Fair point, LG G3 was one of the most fustrating phones i've had in recent years. Never say never but i won't be buying LG for sometime until the get rid of the ui. Smart move passing it on to your wife.:fingers-crossed:

interesting... maybe im just not a fan of the way samsung processes images but I understand the tech behind the AF system it uses so it should be reallly good. As much as it pains me to say, I have yet to see an android take better pictures than the equivalent iphone of the time.

Having owned iphone 6 plus inmho the camera on Note 4 is superior in most conditions.
I would've definitely bought a Note 4 if Samsung found a way to implement some of their features into Stock Android. They've done a great job with hardware now they need to focus on optimizing software. Samsung is supposedly starting over next year & I look forward to see what the Galaxy S 6 & Note 5 will bring
If you're on VZW there is a Dev edition note 4. I'm sure there will be AOSP Roms available for it soon.

Yes got to give the larger screen and better speakers to Nexus, however most reviewers are saying note 4 screen is sharper and brighter.
Lollipop is definitely the only reason not the phone hardware itself.

I hear you man, i think samsung need to otherwise they risk losing more customers.
Similar hw specs leave me hopeful for increased development and AOSP stability on Note 4.
I would get the N4 solely because the screen quality. It blew me away first time I saw it. Nothing, nothing comes close.
But can't do TW, no no no. That's how much I hate it.

The screen on the note 4 is in another dimension. The best display ever seen on a phone by far.

I was thinking the same thing.
I like some features of TW. But it is overbearing and slows down the device. I was really torn between the two phones. I have always liked the bigger phones. When I heard the new Nexus device was going to be a phablet I was already sold. Love the support the nexus devices get from devs. That's what makes it worth it for me.
