I prefer balanced battery and peformance. Please advice. Thanks
All kernels work differently for different people. Try a bunch and see what works.

Franco kernel lets you overclock the gpu to what ever you want (416-750 and anything in between) so with that in mind you can create your own balance of battery vs performnce.
You cant overclock cpu but honestly it isnt needed.
Also with his latest release r25 th whol devive is much more responsive. Touchscreen etc.

I'm on stock. I can't deal with sods. It's fast and battery life is good.

i'd say go franco or trinity.
Which kernel idles the best with least amount of battery drain out of faux and Franco? It would help a lot of us get a bigger picture with less bias lol. Thanks:thumbup:

All custom kernels with the wakelock fix have virtually identical rates of idle drain.
I've had 0-1% over night with Trinity, Franco & Matr1x. But, each phone & usage environment is different..
Really so now I've got to figure out whos kernel runs the smoothest and gives me a good screen on..
I'm testing harshes ATM its performing very nice indeed with cfx latest build

Does anyone know a stable ROM that can significant increase the battery life on the Nexus 4? Right now I'm stock, and battery life has been terrible and doesn't even last me through the day. It is also very slow to charge on the included charger, but seems to charge faster on a Kindle Fire 1.8A I have.
Thanks!

The custom kernels in the dev section offer decent battery life.
I'm a wifi user mostly and I get @5.5 to 6 hours screen on time with lite gaming and browsing (this site all day lol).. i do Undervolt by a total of 150mV too... I recomend Harsh's kernel personally.
Underclocking the CPU is not worth it imo because it just makes other cores go online quicker when more power is needed... though it may help a small bit.
other usual tips..
use low screen brightness
turn off google now
turn off gps location
only sync stuff you really use, turn other syncs off (i have just gmail, contacts, browser synced)
turn off nfc if not using
make sure to use the open recent apps button and swipe away all apps when putting the phone down for a while (this really helps with stock kernel because of the wakelocks)
edit.. also after a week or so of charges the battery gets better.
Mpdecision is killing the battery. Try Franco kernel or faux.

I'll give Franco kernel a try. Can CyanogenMod increase the battery life in the Nexus 4?

Hi there. I have my nexus 4 for about a week. It was bought rooted second hand. I flashed liquid smooth and faux at start and battery life was medium. About 15 hours. But I want more battery life. So I flashed liquid smooth and FRANCO kernel which is supposed to increase my battery life but it only lasted 14 hours on the first cycle. I will wait for 3-4 cycles more to check it.
Are there any special settings for Franco kernel to work better? Please help because it is a great phone but battery is essential.

Anyone?

The rom and the kernel is not the cause for your battery loss. The kernel's recommended settings are ideal for battery life. It's either your apps or the amount of wakelocks draining your power. Rogue apps that are constantly awake when they shouldn't be. download wakelock detector or better battery stats and find the cause.

Ouch, that's terrible battery life. I'd say it's definitely a program causing it, I don't think any rom or kernel could be that bad.
Never mind I moved to paranoid android ROM and is more battery friendly. Please lock the topic.

K guys.. I am not sure if its 4.3 or something else.. Can someone confirm.. I used to get 18000+ on my 4.2 n4 and over 24000 with faux overclocking kernels for 4.2
Now i am getting 14000 - 16000.. With 4.3..

it's 4.3 and new update of antutu....
you can use custom rom/kernel or some tweaks so you'll get over 23k
Just you...

Right now i am using pa 3.99 franco latest kernel.. I am having issues pulling 15k
@Testraindrop what kernel / rom are you using? I compared and my cpu and ram scores are much low..

I have an average of 21,000 Points in Antutu with Cataclysm Rom and hells core b36

Will try the cm 10.2 but its still nighty.. And regarding kernels I was always under the impression that faux and franco gives the best performance..

different kernel works and reacts differently on different devices and different roms. test it out to find YOUR perfect fit.

Try the S4 dalvik patch that's floating around here. Boosted my score to 20k+ on PA 3.99 with stock PA kernel at 1512/1512.
Using this combo as my daily driver since a week and no problems so far.

What kind of numbers did you get before the mod?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Around 16-17k if I remember correctly. Also don't forget that heat throttling is pretty aggressive on the N4. So make sure your device has cooled down before the next run.
Pro tip: put your N4 onto a cold ceran stove when benchmarking. They're made to conduct heat efficiently and will keep your device cool
Well I wouldn't give those numbers too much credit...
they represent more the settings that you enter, than device performance.
I for instance use the latest franco Kernel. With the settings I use every day (interactive governor, default clocks), I get arount 15-18k in antutu. But the device feels as snappy as hell in normal usage and gaming.
If I switch to performance governor, ramping the minimal and maximal cpu clock up to 1512MHZ while raising the cpu throttling from 65 to 90° I reach antutu scores in the range of 20-22k.
But I obviously would never ever use these settings every day.
That beeing said, these numbers do not really represent how the devices behaves in every day usage, which is much more important to me than any number, a benchmark puts out.

I am not trying to reach higher antatu numbers.. what I was looking for is to test out which kernel and what kernel settings gives me max power...

I have a couple of questions:
It's your phone still working like it should?
Do you really care about the scores you get to be able to enjoy your N4?
Do you think the scores of benchmark really say everything about your phone?
If you compare a S4 or M7 with a N4, and in one test (by chance) you get the same scores, do you think your N4 has the same power as a S4 or M7?
Stop worrying about benchmark scores, I used to be like that bench-marking all the time, at the end I just got tired of it!!!
Now I just enjoy my phone the way it is.
Good luck!!!
CM-10.2 and CM kernel got 20728
Edit
(updated antutu version 18484).

CM10.2 unmodified with Franco kernel default settings...
btw. Antutu 4 score: 21336
Benchmarks are useless, its how the device feels when using it what matters.
