remove wifi on notification pulldown? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

When im connected via wifi., it shows up on my pulldown. .any way to remove that? Thanks

I too find this to be idiotic and annoying. It's the icon in the status bar seriously not enough? AT&T/Samsung really bloated this thing up like never before.

Yeah seriously annoying !

That's an at&t thing... It's been present on past phones. e.g. The sgs3... The at&t variant had that annoying notification that all other variants didn't.

Oh, no Verizon did it on the GS3 and I hated that crap. Every time I dropped down the menu I would hit WiFi and suck the battery down. PITA.

Hopefully when some developers get hold of this thing, they will find a workaround. Just takes up space.

Att skyrocket does that to when it got the jb update

Strange cause my i717 og note doesn't show this on ICS. What a waste of space!

Things that need to disappear - FAST
- Wifi Connected persistant notification on the Ongoing Notification pull down
- Smart Stay / Pause / etc icon on the notification bar (at least the SIII would only show this icon when in use, not all the damn time!)
- NFC icon on the notification bar (why, God, why)
Other than that, I love this thing! Definitely a huge improvement over the SIII, IMO

I actually find this useful because I have att dsl for the most common use cases and cable for low latency lag free gaming (farcry 3).
It's really quick to switch between them with this notification.

No one here is talking about the toggle switch.
And btw if you long press on the wifi toggle it goes to the wifi setting

I wasn't referring to the toggle. If I touch the notification wifi connected. Which is in the drop down notifications. It takes me to wifi settings where I select the ap I want to switch or connect to.
I am running holo launcher hd.
Not sure if that makes any difference.

That's the point long press on the toggle gets you there it just takes out notification space annoying ...

Dropdown bar brightness slider?

Anyone else know about this? Was wondering why my brightness was changing when holding the phone to my ear....
I was initially thinking it was a proximeter sensor, but nope. Its a slider built into the notification bar. Press and hold at the left of the bar and while keeping your finger held to the bar, move to the right. And ofcourse left to turn it down.
Not really crazy about this feature really. Wish I could disable it.

Mine has never worked, so I wasn't really sure what the process was. Still doesn't, but this was more detailed than "swipe on the bar"

Doesn't work if you have auto brightness enabled.

can save some battery by turning auto brightness off and use the slider to adjust the brightness.
I dig it too. It saves time & frustration when you're out in the sun, step into a building & are all blinded by the sunlight, to the point where you can't navigate through menus. Just hold the notification, sliiiide & bam.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a TouchWiz thing? Or possibly Samsung? My wife has a lower-end Samsung (don't remember, but it's one of the Virgin Mobile ones), and it doesn't have this feature.
When you hold your phone close to your ear while in a phone call, the proximity sensor turns the screen off, so your ear touching the screen would not be changing the brightness. If auto brightness is enabled, it's really touchy and will change brightness rather quickly.
It works without sliding all you have to do is hold it on the left and it dims and if you hold it on the right it brightens

+1. Auto-brightness is also a battery killer. Learn to embrace the slide feature.
How do you enable it in CM7? I thought this was touch wiz. I miss the feature when running the
AOSP ROMs.

If you hold it from the corners it only maxes the brightness or lowers the brightness to the lowest setting. When sliding you can control how bright you want your screen.

Persistent notification to right side by battery?

Is it possible to make some app notifications show on the right side near battery, Wi-Fi, ect? Like an IM app that is always in the notification tray.
Thanks!

It's possible. But unfortunately I don't think there are any roms on there that is able to do that. Personally, I think it would look kinda weird if it was on the right side.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Status Bar Icons - What do they Mean?

Right now, my brand-spankin' new S4 has about twelve icons on the status bar.
I can guess to the meaning of about six of them.
Is there a reference somewhere that explains what each of these icons means?
A screen shot would help cool guy.

Here we go. (I think I attached it...)
A left pointing arrow with a '+' sign on it, an open box, a mail icon, a big M, a down arrow pointing to a horizontal line, a greyed out eye, a Bluetooth icon (that one I understand), a... well, I don't know what that is, a wi-fi signal strength indicator (I think), a 4G LTE indicator, a cell network signal strength indicator (I think), and a battery charge indicator (I think).
Is there some kind of master Secret Decoder Ring for these icons?

There was no manual in the box; I figured that meant there was no manual. How silly of me to expect a manual to be packaged with the product I purchased.
Would you be so kind as to post a link to the manual? I found Samsung's Galaxy S4 page at I-can't-pase-a-URL-because-of-my-postcount samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxys4 but I'll be a monkey's uncle if I can find a link to the user manual from there.
Seriously: thank you. I was honestly unaware that there was a manual for this device. (I was rather surprised at the lack of a manual, but saw no evidence to the contrary until I started this thread.)

Like StolenVW posted, the user manual contains a list of all of the icons that the device can display. I know it was very useful when my phone was switching into EDGE and I didn't recognize the ICON from my normal LTE one. Check it out if you haven't by now and you will see that they are all listed within its pages.

Google experience launcher (gel)

Grabbed this plus the new search all from Android police. Launcher looks good, but I seem to lose knock on. Am i missing something or is it baked in the launcher?

For me, it still works, but not all the way. To turn the screen off, you have to knock on the status bar. Once the screen is off though, I can knock anywhere to turn it back on.

That is how knock on has always worked...you knock anywhere(normally towards the center) to turn on the screen and for me at least(ATT D800) you tap on the status bar to lock.
If you installed GEL wilk the LG transparent navbar and status bars go away? If not I might give it a try

With the stock launcher (at least for me) I could knock anywhere on a blank part of the desktop to lock it. I can confirm that knocking on the statusbar does lock it. Not quite as convenient, but not a big deal. Thanks to all who helped me figure this out.

Been running apex launcher since the day i got it... you can get knock on to work on your homescreen with apex if you download "Screen off" from the play store and from homescreen you can hit your menu key>>Apex settings>>Behavior settings>>Desktop double tap>>Launch app>>There will be two of them one is just "Screen Off" and the other is "Screen Off and Lock Configuration" just check the "Screen Off" hit ok and your good to go and the icon packs only make it better, sporting that 2.265 gHZ quad-core processor with adreno 330 its smooth sailing on apex and i experience no lag at all over all great experience with lots of customization to check out in the settings sadly no transparent nav or notification bars though... not a problem for me though

Question regarding annoying bell

Hello everyone. I am going to buy an axon 7 someday soon. And I have a question regarding the bell I read bothers some.
Does installing nova launcher allow for a better experience?

The thing with the bell is that you have to press the bell to see the notifications. Your notifications won't be there when you turn the screen on but will have to press the bell. That's all, it's not the end of the world. ..just one extra step to see your notification is all.

To be honest, I never see my lockscreen. I always use the fingerprint sensor.
The Bell will be optional in the next update,
