Got my at&t s4... is there a root method ?! - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Must root!!!

Did you look here?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192841

were you able to find a root method that worked with atnt version?

No, I don't think there's enough out there. It's probably going to take a month for a bootloader unlock and root maybe sooner.

[Q] Root after latest update?

Hey!
I have a SGH-i337m and i'm wondering if i will still be able to root my phone after receiving and downloading the new update (one with the Apps To Sd Card) ? I'm used to Apple jailbraking where once the update is installed , you must wait for another jailbreak to be exploited. Is this true with Android as well?
Thanks in Advance
from what I have read, you do loose root when you update but you can turn right around and root again after updating
Both of you need to do much more research.
1. If you have root on MDL now, you should be able to use VooDoo OTA RootKeeper to retain root after upgrading, if you meet all the criteria and follow all the directions in the thread with the solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360494
2. There is no way to be rooted after upgrading to MF3 other than the above method.

Is there any word on whether or not the bootloader is encrypted? If so does anyone have any idea on what the chances of it being unlocked is, as this is the only thing stopping me from buying this phone.

Basically it is an exploit to bypass the bootloader to flash roms and kernels. DJRBLISS found it for the S4 and it is working with the G pro. Read more about it here
Other options would be Hash's safety strap or if they can figure out flash gordon for roms. But I still hope for a full unlock sometime...

Loki is old. Most manufactures stopped using as soon as Dan Bliss posted how he exploited it.
I am fairly confident this is not going to be Loki. I hope I am wrong but...
Its easy to test if you are rooted.
Pull a system dump, mod the boot.img (Decompile it, maybe just put a simple line in the default.prop then recompile), then run it through loki. After loki just DD it back in place.
If you phone boots then its loki! And I run to AT&T to buy one no questions asked...
If your phone doesnt boot... you bricked it but did so for a noble cause! And for that I would salute you!
All of the above is true and accurate... But with a grain of angry sarcasm... Im pretty sure this is not going to be Loki. If so it would have recovery and ROMS by now.

No, thats not correct.
When the system boots, it looks at aboot and verifies its signed. Then from there, it verifies that boot.img is signed, then on...
aboot is just first in the chain, and if hacked appropriately, would eliminate the need for any and all loki methods...
However, hacking the aboot is not something I recommend anyone trying to do... Unless of course they have done it before...
Didint you just brick your phone because of a hack attempt at aboot?

Trust me man, I played this game on Samsung... Then quit it and went back to HTC.
With Samsung they dropped the loki method of kernels. So now, they have yet to have an unlocked bootloader...
I can only SUSPECT this phone is using the same method the Samsungs are now using...
Otherwise we would have lokied the ***** and we would all be crack flashing :highfive:

Yeah, they are going one route to unlock... Which would be the most optimal, yet most risky...
Although on other Samsung devices they closed this loop hold...
Unless someone has an aboot that has been leaked by LG for the device that does not have the checks involved this may prove as impossible as it does for the Samsung devices..
I hope I am wrong...

Impossible to know!
I just know the S4 has been re-locked for a couple months and no one has made any posted progress. I am "assuming" this phone uses the same method as Samsung. LG has always tended to play "follow Samsung."
So with that said... I would be watching the S4 forums for an answer...

Will we keep root on kitkat

With an update to kitkat happening in the near future I started to think that root may not be so easy. Our bootloader being locked down don't help matters. Right now Kingo is giving users problems and the only other option being vroot.
But what if neither of these work with kitkat?
I will not take an update until I confirm root is possible.
If there's any devs out there that can unlock this bad boy please don't give up.
So what's everyone else think?
I think that in the future people who want root will need to buy a developer's edition.

True but the unfortunate thing is Verizon and or Samsung don't make enough available.
Would be nice if they started to manufacture more dev units in the future.
Or Verizon can just unlock the bootloaders.

I'm guessing that they will make more. There will, and may now be, some significant legal difference between the two. A lot of people want rooted phones so when bootloaders are no longer exploitable they will come up with a scheme to exploit those root-wanters.

[Q] Advice on getting rooted

I just received my phone yesterday, and updated to 4.4.4 in ignorance. I realized Towelroot doesn't work on 4.4.4.
Without root, I feel the restrictions of the device - there are many things I cannot do. (I owned a Galaxy S2 prior to this - I still like it - didn't realize how many things I took for granted which can only be done after root!)
How can I get the Verizon Note 3 rooted?
I was wondering if Towelroot would work on 4.4.4. So you have tried and can verify that it doesn't work???

No way to downgrade without root. I dont know how you obtained the phone, but if thru regular channels you can try sending it back and saying it was messed up out the box and request a new one. And make sure not to update that one if you do get it.
Just did exactly that - then I saw your response - imagine my surprise! Thanks.

Nope, sorry, OE1 and OG5 you can't downgrade because of the locked bootloader. But there is a good news that they may found away to unlock bootloader on Verizon G5, we just have to wait and see if they will in fact release the exploit.
