[Q] What are you wishing for in future roms/updates to improve your Xoom experience?

It's quiet in here while 3G Xooms are in transit getting their long-awaited 4G upgrade.
So what is coming down the road that you might feel excited about, or what is on your wishlist?
In this thread I'm not looking for a ***** session, but just an assessment of where we are in terms of software/OS and apps availability for the Xoom. I think we are all aware of any hardware limitations, so unless there may be software fixes, let's not dwell on that, OK?
Anyway, I'll start: I'm pretty happy with the Team Tiamat roms/kernels/recovery and I understand that Team Rogue makes some fantastic kernels/recoveries, too. So that's pretty good, considering Honeycomb Source code is not available.
My real need is smoother integration of productivity activities (file creation/editing/saving/sending/printing) and also design/drawing/paint applications--for my two main moneymaking activities.
I can use a whole bunch of apps but they don't work so well together.
Is there anything good to address this on the horizon?

I think google and microsoft need to get the crap together and integrate some office. I mean it would be nice to see the use of features we have and use at home/work on our pc. Adobe is doing it. MS and google (with all the patents they just bought) could make a lot of money and people happy. We could have xbox live, MS games, office apps that work with our jobs, actual ability to use the system to better our wants and needs. I would love to have android link with my google stuff and my pc stuff.

I read somewhere that the average Android user doesn't want to pay for apps. Don't know if it's true, but will that impede MS entry into Android market?

My want/need is very simple. I would love to see a few arrow keys on the keyboards. Rereading emails, texts, etc is a pain to edit without them.

I use the Hacker's Keyboard. it is configured just like a pc keyboard with arrow keys!
It also splits in half like the thumb keyboard and has a dedicated number pad mode. Sometimes a bit funky in regular keyboard mode when entering numbers, but overall, works great.

Louding keyboard clicking and unlock sounds.
SD write capability similar to my Froyo phone.
Tap-to-Focus on the camera app

I'm very pleased so far, especially considering source hasn't been dropped. Overclocking & undervolting are HUGE to me, adding to an already great charge time as well as an already great CPU power.
I don't know if this is simply a software issue that hasn't been done, or what, but I would really LOVE to see drag n' drop on a file browser. That would really be the icing on the 'productivity cake" for me.
Looking back at the Droid 1 development days, I see that the devs have really enabled quite a bit considering they don't have the SC. Aside of customization regarding font, color, c, I really don't know what else is possible.
As I said, I'm very pleased so far, so even if there were no further great strides to be made, I would not be disappointed with whatever the development teams come out with.

Overall very happy. In addition to the wish for functioning office apps (I have purchased all of them and use each for different functions to fill the gaps), I'd like to see an app (or, better yet, an OS function) that allows 10 or more tablets in a room (around the board table) to talk directly to each other. I want to be able to run a meeting showing the presentation on each (one tab driving), yet allowing each to take advantage of multitasking so that an individual could slip out of the presentation to retrieve a file from dropbox, pull an email, schedule an appt, etc.

You took the words out of my mouth. I measure and draw countertops for kitchens all day long and would like to see an app that I could use to draw them on, kinda like a dumbed down auto cad that you could use a picture or graph paper as a background.
Also the device lags a bit with anything other than a static background enabled, seemslike it should be snappier all around and I wish the keyboard would keep up better.
I love the work the folks here have done so far with this device and I understand that some stuff probably won't/can't be addressed, but those are my desires for the device.
And I want to be able to swipe the bottom bar away, or long press a corner or something.

These are all seriously great ideas. I'm not any kind of developer but it seems like some of these suggestions could be accomplished. I would love a way to draw with a stylus and have the line actually coming from a "point" the way I normally draw with a pen. I know that some apps have less lag and some stylii approximate a point but it just doesn't feel quite right. I would also like to see improved handwriting to OCR.

I'm also interested in what people would like out of their custom rom.
Obviously we can't do everything at the moment and not everything is feasible, but it's always good to have feedback

Tiamat makes Xoom zoom. No complaints there just kudos and gratitude. As for wishing...I wish annotation intigration for both capacitive and digitized displays was universally incorporated throughout OS and apps.

How about a proper hack for 3g USB dongle support? I only managed to tether my wifi xoom to my nexus one.
And I hope Google will optimize hardware acceleration for android UI interactions. So far honeycomb lags inconsistently.

I think there is some support for 3G dongles, you might have to hit up the devs to find out the details. I know Solarnz helped me get my 4G WiMax dongle working. My modified standard dock, which now has a full-sized USB host port, and my 4G dongle make a great combination along with the BT keyboard and mouse.

I would like to see some kind of messaging capability without having to do a bunch of hacks to get there, and maybe good codec support written in for the stock video player, eliminating the need to try out every video app in the market to find one that works...maybe a built in note taking app and some other clocks. I really do hate the tron clock

I would like to see multiple user support much like Windows. Have a main logon screen at boot up with the all the users names and their icon, along with a password on each to keep the accounts locked. Possibly a guest account for other people who don't use your tablet a lot, but would like to play something.
This is something that is badly needed. A tablet is a device that can be shared by more than one user. If it is a family tablet it would be great to have multiple user accounts to log into with. Each account would have custom settings and apps for that user, just like Windows. The new tablets have plenty of memory to handle multiple users with multiple app installs.
Also needed for this to work: Admin + parental controls throughout the entire OS for people who are not the tablet admin. Comes in handy so that the minor users can not mess up the tablet for the owner/admin of the tablet. The minor users will not have the proper permissions to mess with anything root and such.

Google Project Glass. The future of advertisement.

1) Google Glass: possibilities of advertisement; basing adverstisement of what you see and geographically enable, taking advantage of streetview and visually as to what the user is seeing on the UI. For example, if a user walks by and views a McDonalds, a Google Goggles application will identify the image and instantly rely an advertisement to you.

I see where you are coming from and i agree. It would also be great for museums and what not to give you the information on the artwork without having to read a tile and what not.
It's a neat product for sure.

More thoughts are welcome. Discussion and relative views are encouraged!

Oh my, OP, Google isnt just all about ads, They do other stuff too.

2) I think most people don't realize this yet. There are some very neat things that can be done with Google Glass for the visually impaired. It could be used as a tool that will assist by using a combination of Google Goggles, and GPS to guide the visually impaired in ways that nothing else has really done...

i think this tech is great...but i'm afraid it will kill our social life..i watch from youtube about project glass advertisement..that person a wearing glass make a date without her girlfreind and at the book store he is looking for ?? section..he didn't ask from a lady at counter..its look like a film WALL-E..just sit at chair..everything in front your eye and you are not noticed who are between of you.. this is only my 2cent opinion..sorry for my bad english..

Good point. We've already reached some of that. As in people looking down at their smartphone most of the time rather than socializing.

I don't know how you're supposed to be driving and wearing this thing at the same time. Will the DOT allow this on public roads? I mean... Imagine you're driving down I-95 S while wearing it and something pops up on the ride of the glasses. At the same time, a truck is trying to merge into your lane from the right. You didn't see it coming because your glasses prevented you from seeing that truck in your right-side mirror...

Imagine they make real time translation lang to lang in text or voice mod...

I hope thant when i walk or drive, I haven't my eyes full of advertising!!! Or i collise with other people or wall xD

Random thoughts
The idea is not new, but being a big and supposedly not evil company behind it may success.
- The official video can create a lot of hype. But. You won't be able to perform most things they do there. It is expensive.
Will this eventually get better? Who knows. I guess this is an experiment, it may success or not.
- Btw, does exist already any kind indoor GPS like in the video?
- Could this eventually kill the phone as we know it (with the help of tablets)?
- Is it only for one eye? and no way to remove reality background? Not good for watching movies then.
- Input interfaces: I don't think voice commands can work when surround by crowd in the street. As someone said, work by blinking eyes? by moving head? by moving eyes? have a couple of buttons?
- Presbyopia. When we get older we have trouble watching our small phone screens. These glasses will naturally overcome this.
- Casual public social networking: See what radom people around you is thinking realtime (like Google Plus' "near you" but better), see their avatars. Have your GPS on 24/7 and drain your battery too, or use NFC if it helps. May a new p2p GPS network emerge, or ground GPS, who knows.
- Easy and fast NFC sharing is required, as you cannot just show your screen to your friend like you can do with phones.

Well, i believe and Google also says it at some places that it'll cause accidents.
Definitely you won't be using it while driving a car or walking across the street therefore it won't be local mostly professionals will be using it like sky divers, astronauts etc ..

I happen to use a lot of coupons. Normally I'll look up the coupons at home for businesses I'll be around during the next day.
It would be fairly handy if eventually an app could be made for google glass that would pop up coupons/sales for places as I travel past them.

Luckily you'll be able to get a driverless car so that you don't crash while using your glasses

Artists - What apps do you use?

I'm posting this here, because I would assume that most of the people who bought a Note did it because of the S-Pen. Therefore, you probably did it for artistic reasons, or because of handwriting support.
Personally, I did it for artsy reasons. For the last couple years (since I got my iPad1) I have been preferring drawing pictures digitally. In order to reference my "style" (might help with my later question) my work is on:

I had a few setbacks (apps being a pain, etc) and problems with resolutions and all that, but for the last few months it was ticking along nicely.
And then... I wanted to upgrade my tablet. But an iPad4? The same as what I had pretty much, but the new version? Seemed boring... even though it would be easy, as I could keep the new apps etc...
BUT no... I impulse bought a Note10.1 instead. Because the more-accurate style of stylus could only help, and pressure support? I did without it until now, but it might help in future!
HOWEVER...
I started with Sketchbook Pro on the ipad, a good program. However it was limited in the resolution you could use, which meant that the exported pictures were not very big on my computer screen. And of course, if you enlarge them, they become heavily pixelated. Not good.
So I changed to vector programs, mostly one called "iDraw", which is basically a full adobe illustrator style program. Does absolutely everything. And the main advantage being, the vectors are saved when you export the file... so you can make the pictures as big as you want without any pixellation problems!
My problem with android though... the only vector apps I can find are Adobe Ideas (very very badly rated, 1 star app...) and one called Infinite Design (very highly rated, but still rough around the edges).
BACK TO THE POINT...
So while Adobe Ideas is being made into something thats... not crap. And while infinte design is working out its issues (though I'm still going to try and use it), I wondered what all you guys out in Note-land were using?
Im expecting some nods to sketchbook pro.... and I'm really hoping someone will tell me a way to get around its "canvas size is limited to screen resolution" problem. As this... is pretty bad.
...and I'm also hoping for a few new ideas, some "diamond in the rough" apps which haven't reached my ears yet..
Really hoping I won't regret buying the Note to be honest... I had high hopes for it. It has hit an early hurdle, even taking into account the relative youth of the android tablet app environment.
FOR THOSE WHO SKIPPED THE WALL OF TEXT:
QUESTION - What do you guys use, to make pretty pictures on the tablets. Vector based for preference, or bitmap if the canvas size can be changed!

Ok, after another half hour of playing around with Infinite Design, I can see why a) some people give it great reviews, and b) why some people hate it.
I'll start with b) - The interface is a little confusing, and definately needs to be worked on. I think its a one-man project though, so things like UI design may not be at the top of his list. It takes a while to find some things, like certains tools and ways of doing things. I guess thats what they would call a learning curve though.
however...
a) This app does have some very very clever design features. I have found a couple that have actually wowed me, and made me think I could use it to do some really interesting work.
For instance, you can add a line of symmetry to a drawing, so that everything you draw is mirrored along a vertical/horizontal/angled line of symmetry.
Not too special you say? Well you can add this line mid-drawing, without it automatically mirroring your previous work, and do a couple mirrored lines, then remove it. Ive known programs that would simply mirror everything.
Still not enough? The line of symmetry is customisable, it defaults to the centre of where your screen is aimed on the canvas, and can be moved to any location. *This is actually potentially very useful, and I know of no iOS apps that have this as a feature.*
back to b) though, finding out HOW to put in these lines of symmetry, and how to then move them (it involves a tool that is in a different menu entirely) was half judgement and half luck on my part. There aren't any tutorials for any of this stuff *yet*.
But yes, if vectors float your boat (as they do mine) it would seem that "Infinite Design" is currently the one to watch on Android. Its not perfect, it will take some work and getting used to, but with a few more updates (and the guy seems to be working on them fairly regularly, relatively speaking) it could be something pretty special.
SO I have put in an answer to my own question, someone elses turn now!

I actually emailed the creators of sketchbook pro (auto desk) because I was so annoyed by the canvas size limitation I wanted to vent my anger in a request for much-needed-changes...
Less than an hour later, I had an actual reply! I was shocked, to say the least.
Apparently Chad (the auto desk guy) was so helpful, he decided to let me know that the new version of sketchbook for iPad and android was coming soon, and would have changes to the canvas limitation, as well as various other "exciting changes in the way people will use this app".
He seemed excited, and now so am I!
So there might be good things coming for sketchbook pro, and I am glad as that was always a very good app on iOS.

Good list! I'm going through them on the play store at the moment, though a few of them fall into the "fun" category, of being nice to play around and doodle on, but no use for any bigger projects. The problem is usually a matter of having no way to export the pictures as a usable file type
edit: layer paint seems interesting, if it ever makes a tablet version it could be awesome. I cant find an app called "drawing" though...

I had heard of these before, but I had thought they were just for handwriting (that is what they themselves advertise as) though the quill app does seem to have a few nice drawing tools too. And it can save as a .pdf.. which would usually mean saving any vector information too! Interesting..

Ahh thanks, I will take a look
I have also found out about an app called TouchDraw... vector drawing, seems to have been a popular one on the iPad store, and is released on android recently it seems....
But its unavailable in my country? I'm in the UK, so I'm guessing its for America only for some reason (As I doubt the developer has a specific grudge against the UK). I may try and find a way around this, so that I can test it out and review it for you guys.
I'll try and post up a review thread of all these apps somewhere soon, so people can find the apps that would be most useful to them (vectors/bitmap/fun/serious/etc)

My daughter wants an app that's good for inking and has a blend and smudge tool, multiple brush modes, and layers. Do any of the apps out there fit this bill.

I got this just now. Had an hour of playing around (and looking up windows help guides to figure some stuff out)....
Oh..Em..Gee.
This is an insane program. It is like a full windows animation program, on a tablet.
And strangely, it wouldnt work on any normal tablet, only ones that use a pen. Fingers would be way too thick to hit these menu buttons, and the contextual help only comes up on "mouse-overs".
Colour me impressed, this tool will be something awesome when it is released. There needs to be more like this! Programs that the iPad could *never* have (unless they release a non-capacitive screened iPad, which I doubt they would).

Sketchbook pro has most, if not all, of these features. Not sure on the blend and smudge for the android version, I know that the iPad version did. Check it out in the Play store, it should list the features.
It is a very good program, and I have been told by an Autodesk employee that a new update that will add all sorts of nice new features, and will be coming out "soon". Though how soon "soon" is, is anyones guess.
Dont take my word for it though (I'd hate for you to spend money and then blame me if I was wrong!!!) so check out the Play listing for sketchbook pro. Make sure you end up buying the "Sketchbook Pro for Tablets" one though, if you do buy it.
Edit: There are blend modes using layers.... but no smudge tool in sketchbook. Not on android anyway, it has been on the iPad version for a long time though. I would *think* that it would get added in the upcoming update. Sorry I couldnt be more help, I haven't yet explored the colouring side things on android...
However, I hear good things about a program called "Infinite Painter", made by the same guy who does the Infinite Design app. The pictures I have seen done using it were very impressive, so I expect that might have smudge/blend tools. I would check that one out if I were you. It has a Note-specific version of the app, which is nice!

This is a link to the Free version. Probably has adverts or limited saves or something. The paid version isnt expensive though.

It's the app I used on iPad, but trust me when I say the iPad version has a lot more tools in it. Don't know why they've been so slow with the android one.
An update on my infinite design findings... It's good. But it's missing some necessary tools, such as Path joining and being able to select-all. Also it seems you can't have your line be a different color to your fill...
Vector graphics users will hopefully understand what I mean lol. I miss my iDraw program on the iOS. It had everything. Maybe someday soon a program will catch up to it!
Although I still need to try that new TouchDraw program that's on Samsung apps... It looks promising, in theory.

Because people think of Apple users as "artists" and Android users as geeks.
Anyway, tvpaint looks ridiculously complex!

I once was quite good at using TV Paint (when it was called Mirage) but I forgot almost all of it. It's a very specific program. Right now I would kill for MyPaint on Note 10.1. I'm considering porting it - but it uses Python which is not available on Android AFAIK.

Its probably generally quite true, but as an artist AND a geek, I am happy with my wacom-powered device. So they need to start making apps for it!
Saying that, I had an email from the developer of the vector app I use, and he has finished his other project for now and is back to work on his next update for this app. So things are moving forward!

I was just about to bite the bullet, and spend the £5.50 for the TouchDraw app from the samsung store when I noticed.... It is only compatible with Jellybean 4.1+.
Which hasnt been released for my device yet, officially.
Lame.
Might be time to root.

Enough negativity, let's share the positives!!

I'm sad for those who are thinking of buying this tablet or those who just recently have and read all the negative things about this amazing tablet. Let's all share the things you love most about this awesome device.
I for one haven't had nearly as many issues as some have posted on xda or here. I think most are too picky or just don't know how to use it.
I love my tablet because it has one of the best screens available, it's snappy, I haven't experience lag with the right settings. I love the spen features, the size is perfect, the over all build is good to me.
With everything this device has to offer and how customizable it can be and even more so if you root or find the right apps the options are almost endless.
I look forward to reading what you all love most about your experience. Let's let's those on the edge about buying or keeping the Note 10.1 2014 edition know its a great buy worth the money!

The S Pen is a god. I haven't used a piece of paper at work since August 2012. I am entirely digital with my notes and diagrams. This is something that just seemed impossible before the S Pen hit the tablet scene regardless of how much I wanted to get away from paper. That combination of a light portable 10" 16:10 Note tablet series with the S Pen is nearly unbeatable at the moment. It is the sweet spot for me.
How's that for positive?

My point being is with out knowledge of what your options are your going to be dissatisfied. Read up before complaining or ask us

Care to shed any light on your workflow. I'm interested in what apps you use to take your notes, how you archive them, how you search for info at a later date, are they in a format where you can access them across platforms (PC, etc).
I've been wanting to go completely digital with my notes but still haven't been able to come up with a truly workable system.

I do everything through Lecture Notes currently. I used to do everything through Quill but I found Lecture Notes to be perfect for note taking since it allows for folders as well as notebooks. So I can jump very quickly to the notes I need for the current project I'm working on where everything is organized at the location I'm working at for a given project and the year and month if it was something very regular like weekly team meetings. That structure is good enough for me for retrieving whatever I'm looking for. I know Quill has tags if you want to filter individual pages in a given book but the GUI is incredibly slow once you have a lot of notebooks.
My folder hierarchy is typically Location\Building\Project\(Year\Month) for Lecture Notes. That allows me to split things up enough that I'm okay with combing through my notes from that point out. I do date each entry in my notes than highlight it in yellow so I can quickly find notes for a given day. I'm pretty sure LN offers some kind of tagging system if you wanted to make things searchable.
With Quill I backed up old notes to PDF and made a copy on my microSD and my notebook. I actually haven't archived anything yet with Lecture Notes but I know it can export to PDF so I will probably do that. Quill actually offers syncing notes between devices but I never used it. Quill also had automatic backing up to the microSD card.

I personally hate this tablet without root. Once I had root, this tablet became an absolute joy to use. I think rooting would be the best advice I could give to a new user that might be frustrated with their Note. Then nearly anything that pisses you off can be fixed in way or another.
Finding the right 3rd party apps is also crucial. I think that if you assume what Samsung provides is the end all of what works with the S Pen, you are really limiting yourself. Once you start branching out you see all the possibilities of the S Pen you can have a much better idea of how useful it is. Also, many times you have to turn on S Pen support for an app such as drawing and note taking apps. Until then it treats the pen like a finger. And sometimes some random 3rd party app may actually do something better than all the big companies with similar apps. Research seriously pays off with this tablet.
A not so super obvious benefit of the S Pen is gaming. I don't know how anybody plays R-Type with their finger when you have all those little enemies flying around the screen from every angle. The S Pen is a huge advantage there. Even casual games like Fruit Ninja, I can play way better with an S Pen because of the higher accuracy and less obstructed vision.

I also use Lecture Notes for work. Besides the notebooks and folders, you can use the index page function to easily find a particular part of a notebook later. I typically index more important meetings within a project notebook to easily reference later. For me this has worked so much better than the many separate paper project notebooks I used to have. I often remember a reference mentioned in a meeting but not the exact value. With my old paper system i would rarely find it. With the indexing in Lecture Notes, it's no trouble at all.
I prefer the Note 8 at work, because the size makes it easier to keep with me all the time. So far I use the Note 10 at home only, but I do backup my Note 8 notes to Dropbox and sync them to my Note 10 with Dropsync so I can pick up the bigger tablet if I ever needed to with all my notes in it already. I used to take notes on an Ipad. The Spen+Lecture Notes combination is a million times better.
I also use the widget or shortcut function of Lecture Notes to place 3 shortcuts on my main screen;
The main notebook of the project I work on for quick access, a notebook I call "to do list", and a blank new notebook in case of an unexpected new topic which I can later rename and organize as needed. All other notebooks and folders I access the normal way. But these shortcuts make it easy to jump between my most used notebooks, and I'm always ready for new topics with an empty notebook.

l'm just curious how others use their tablets. I use S note. I have purchased lecture notes, but I haunt figured out how to set it up to a way I'm satisfied with. So what are some advantages to rooting?

turn on the filter (sativ something filter, can't quite remember. I use it at 7), that is the key to a good writing. Lecturenotes is good, but complicated.

Ad away='s no more ads. Titanium back up to get rid of bloat ware or freeze apps. Wanam xposed apps to change the framework and completely customize it. Custom recovery to be able to back up and restore. I just use kies or Odin to manually update. Works perfectly.

I also have the Note 8 & 10.1. The Note 8 is my main tablet, especially for work, due to its size. The Note 10.1 is mainly used for inventory, the larger screen.

S-Pen is a great tool. I use it frequently in almost everything (except games). Also there is plenty of useful applications that is specific to Samsung like S-Note, Ez-pdf reader, Moon reader, Office suite Pro, Digital Calculator (I don`t remember the exact name) and a lot of apps. Another feature which is useful to me which is Multi window apps (requires a rooted device).
But there is performance difference between LTE and 3G devices due to processor difference.
But finally I`m happy with this tablet.

Since I have gotten my Note 10.1, I rarely now use my Nexus 7 2013. I like the screen real estate and as crazy as it sounds, I like the TWZ apps (calendar, S Note, to name a few). I take sermon notes while in church and compared to my iPad 3, it's a gem. I use OfficeSuite 7 with the keyboard to keep up, but for everything else, normal speed writing, I use the S Pen. It's the biggest reason I got the tablet to start with. I played with the Tab Pro 10.1 in BB this weekend and it flies with KK, but I need my S-Pen, so hopefully we get KK soon.

Turn Off Wifi During Sleep -> Better Battery than iPad
Hi,
For those who complains about battery life sucks, here is one tip: turn off wifi during sleep.
I just went to the Settings -> Connection -> Wifi and enable that. Now my tablet battery is a lot longer than my iPad 2.
Not that I use my Note 10.1 for game or any CPU hungry tasks.

Positives of this tablets...
I love it!
Best for remote services like Splashtop. This tab had saved my butt many days at work where my laptop cannot handle certain files. I would use my powerful desktop at home to pull through the loading, then work from there.
This is also a really light weight tablet. Easily one of the more comfortable ones to use, thought it could be a little more balanced like the tablet Z from Sony.
It is impressive in a business scenario. When I use it to show or modify data with the S Pen, I get many Ooouu and Ahhh from older folks. It is a great thing, if you do any of that sort of business. These impressions stick to people, especially if it's their first time seeing a Note product.
Im also in love with how familiar it is to many people. This is debatable, but my family members, friends, and sometimes strangers could pick this tab up, and know how to use it right off the bat. (especially people with samsung phones) Something Android tabs are lacking just a few years ago. Nowadays, the Nexus 7 is the only other friendly tablet I could think of, though it lacks many many out of the box features like the Note.

Any full hd video should scale to the screen very well I have no idea why they would look small.....but yes to all of the above

Everything. Not only it replace my other (older) tablets but also my gsm for my daily use. I use my HTC One (so you see how high the level staff is) now only for phone calls and text messaging. All the rest I do now with my Note.
So, what I love? Touchwiz *g* Yes, I love it. And if we got the Magazine UX and other changes from the Pro, I will love it more. Because Samsung made a tablet interface out of it. Google has here still to learn that tablets are not bigger phones.
I also love the default apps from Samsung. They have many add-ons which the replacements are still missing. So, I use the default browser, the default launcher and so on.
What I do at the end with this great tablet:
- internet surfing
- social virtual life (facebook, twitter, linkedIn, Google+, Skype...)
- drawing and painting (and I didn't switch any longer to my desktop to finish it)
- taking notes
- prepare shopping
- listen music
- watch full HD films (on the Note or from the intranet or internet)
- software development
- remove to desktop pc (for small tasks)
- project films, photos to TV
- reading books
- reading comics
- use this forum

I have a feeling Ara support is going to depend heavily on express user demand. In other words, we can't just hope various companies give it a shot, we have to ask them to. Google appears to have done a good job getting the core stuff supported and is interested in indie health hardware development, but if you want eink, keyboards and anything else that is very hard to come by on modern smartphones, you gotta let companies know you want it.

Eink screens don't just have potential for ereaders, though wouldn't it be nice to have a platform agnostic device where you could use barnes and noble, amazon, kobo and other stores all on the same device? As well as your local library (mine has a lot of Kindle options, but some books are epub only and won't work on my kindle), your old abandoned store (I used to use ereader/fictionwise) and assets like audiobooks, podcasts, and music while your read. You could use readerware with far more options than traditional apps from Amazon et al, like fbreader, moon+ or aldiko. You could have your favorite news aggregation apps in tow as well as consuming content direct from a browser if you please. You could build exactly the reader you want and choose from three different sizes to boot (the largest endo is about a 6" screen, next about 4.x" and the smallest 3.x", and I loved reading on my old 3.5" Touch Pro 2 way back when).
But eink screens could also be nice on phones. Sure, you're not going to play videos or most games on them (though chess and the like could work), but there are times when battery life is paramount and you don't want to be looking for an outlet, and an eink screen might be really nice even if it weren't your primary screen. Screens aren't hotswappable, last I checked, but they can still be switched out, so you could slap your eink screen on before heading out on vacation or toss it in a bag before heading to the hospital for a family visitation of unknown length. Even when outlets are available, they aren't always convenient to use. You might also have multiple phones and have a line that relies on smartphone apps like google voice/hangouts, office, email etc, but that you don't much use for entertainment.
