Legend to Samsung galsxy S

hi, people, thinking of shifting from legend to sumsung galaxy s!! whats ur opinion!!

It depends
Well, Galaxy S has much better hardware but the only reason I would never buy it, is the screen size.
I bought my legend because of his compact size and design.
If you like big phones go for Samsung.
+ Faster, divx/xvid, super AMOLED screen, better battery life.
- size, touchwiz UI (imo HTC Sense looks better)
Personally I will wait for other phones with simillar spec to Galaxy S, but with smaller screen.

I'll give you another reason not to buy the samsung galaxy S - having come from a samsung galaxy I can reassure you samsung have a complete lack of updates (we were still waiting on Cupcake for the galaxy!). Also theyre support leaves allot to be desired.

same is here, i am coming from hero.
but u know sourcecode of samsung galaxy s is already released so we can think lot of flashing & modding, & we all are here for that as i love android for that..

Trust me you don't wanna buy anything from Samsung
Reasons :
1. Lack of updates. If you have bugs on your phone....hehehe...you will be definitely out of luck...all you can do is waiting for something which will never come....
2. Bad customer service, you wil tend to get ignored by 'em (this my personal experience).
3. Overall bad hardware (get broken very easy) compared to HTC.
I am not trying to corner Samsung or praise HTC but my personal experience and many of my friends's experience with Samsung are really bad.
My friends and me do have good experience with earlier HTC products such as O2 XDA Terra, Diamond, etc.

anyways, i would say go for a Desire or wait for the Moto-X,
samsung aint good at support and quality, GalaxyS looks like an iphone3gs to me.

doesnt the galaxy s not have a flash camera? if so i would not get it

if you're going from a legend(i have one also...) i don't see the point into going to the samsung...why not a desire instead?

Streak alternatives

Well my contract renewal is on the horizon, I feel I cant go back to a screen smaller than 5 inches after using my streak for so long, but with no updates about the opus1 in over 6 months, what other 5 inch devices will be available in the coming months?

I think Acer has one that is or is about 5". Its not out yet tho. Google "Acer iconia smart". I think I'm gonna get the HTC holiday if it ever comes out. It's only 4.5" tho.

I tried Samsung Galaxy S2 the other day:
light and plastic,feel like a toy
made to look like a iphone
running smooth,perf is good
scr is over saturate,unreal
the touch is not as smooth as Streak

I like TOTALLY feel your pain.... If my Streak ever breaks, I'll be forced into "pocket-tablet rehab" LOL... As you know, other devices look SO small now... even the HTC Sensation, which I had very high hopes for, is significantly more narrow (screen size), than an HD2 or Evo.... To me, it's basically a narrow strip of glass.... Same goes for the Acer Iconia..... it has something like a 21:9 aspect ratio, meaning it's an even longer "strip of glass" than even the Sensation. I did read that Samsung is coming out with a "Q" model, that's supposedly 5.3" (bigger than our Streaks even)..... Unfortunately, it will probably have worse LCD-fracturing problems because it's surrounding frame will constitute the most lightweight/cheap plastic available.... I think I'll need Streak methadone to get mine out of my hands :-o...... Good luck, and tell us what you end up with

Ill wait and see what dell comes out with next. I'm in no rush for a new device. This streak is keeping me very satisfied!

Can't go to a smaller screen. The Q with the folding display looks like an intriguing device.

I was ROFL x2 after reading your rehab post too, because what you've said regarding moving from the Dell 5" screen to anything smaller would slap me so far into pocket-tablet-rehab, I dont think I would EVER recover..
As torn up as Winehouse was, its still a sad moment when someone dies , even so young.

My screen has had a crack in it for months now and dirt has started working its way inside. I have serious reservations about what that seam will look like after a while, but I really like the concept.

Too true..... Having been on the receiving end of an intervention many, MANY moons ago, I can still see the humor in comments above..... It's too bad no one could get through to her in time...
Anywho, comments overheard at a recent Streak intervention: "We all love you so much.... can't you see what this Streak is doing to your life"?..... "You have it up..... I mean on your arm from morning to night"..... "You give all your money to Michael Dell..... can't you see what that does to people who love you"?.... "Please for your own good, pick up a Sensation or a Galaxy"

Yep, she was really one of the uniquely talented singers today who would have made a legendary mark in music like other greats. Sorry to see her go.
Michael Dell OWNS MY SOUL, because, I cannot kick this habit! This monkey on my back called the Dell Streak has is the BEST phone ive ever owned. I know I will have serious withdrawals EVERY time I look at a phone with smaller screens. And totally come unhinged when using a constantly sticky/choppy winmo device. Yup, I dont think theres an intervention that can cure me of my Dell Streak Fix

I was considering an alternative to my streak, until I figured out what was causing the FC's & lag. Once I uninstalled launcher pro, and installed go launcher, geez, my streak flies now. I think I'll skip an upgrade this fall, unless something in a 5" range is released and has no hiccups.

Comes with slower processor (but not hideously slow), and has out-of-the-box, unlocked GSM phone capabilities.... Maybe someone here could buy one and tell me how it turns out LOL

If viewsonic 7, then why not dell streak 7?
But I don't think anything bigger than 5" will classify as phone too. They would simply be tablets.

Seriously now: I am old enough to remember a world without cell phones so I have seen them appear, take hold and change our life. I have been an user almost from the beginning.
My cell phone "history" is: Motorola can't-remember-its-name, Ericsson T-10s, Ericsson T39m, Sony-Ericsson P800, HP iPaq rw6815, Samsung Omnia i9000, Samsung Galaxy S i9000, Samsung Galaxy SII, Samsung Galaxy Note.
I have never bought any one of them for any other reason than I thought them to be the overall best of their time, I am a very heavy poweruser, I DO use the FULL spectrum of the capabilities of these smartphones.
The Note? It's the smartphone I have always wanted, the one I was forever waiting for, the one I would have designed for myself.
I realize it's a niche phone but I do hope its is a niche that's gonna take hold and stay because I can't see myself EVER going back to "normal" smartphones.
Yes, I am that happy with the Note.
I will add to the thread as I keep on using it, meanwhile feel free to ask anything.
Some other background infos so you know where I am coming from: besides the ones listed above I have seen/tested many many other ones from friends/relatives/stores between and before purchases. I have also some background in IT.
I am from Italy and bought the phone from Germany.

I'm waiting for my own note myself and according to Amazon.de I should be able to put my hands on my new babe in a couple of days...
Just want to tell that even I haven't tried it yet I'm pretty sure it's going to be the beginning of a life long romance...

It really is an awesome pice of kit, im 3 days in now, and find myself just starring at it in awe of its beauty

I got it on the second day of launch in germany and i am so happy with this....now everyone in my office are so tempted that they also are getting this....
Was able to make everyone in my team get sgs2 4 months back and now everyone after note too

This phone is frigging perfect.. When i had the galaxy s2 the ONLY thing that was laking was screen size..
When i saw the note announced basicaly a galaxy s2 with a 5.3inch super omled screen.. It was a no brainer...

Yes, there is so much I simply love about the phone.
Apart from the size I seriously did not think the Note could topple my SGSII.
I purchased the Note part being inquisitive and part because I love to have the latest tech.
Having now tried the Note for the past few days it just gets better and better.
Obviously size is it's biggest draw but I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the Camera is.
I love the Camera on my SGSII but the Note's Camera knocks the spots off of it, which is weird as both the SGSII & Note share the same Lens.
Just goes to show what happens when you have different software to drive the hardware.
Next up we have what I would consider as a 'major' improvement on GPS.
Again the SGSII is no slouch at getting a fix and maintaining your position but the Note just blows the SGSII out of the water.
Okay, this is helped by the fact it uses both the American and now Russian satellites and now we also have a barometer to aid in keeping the accuracy down to a pinpoint.
I'm looking forward to when the Developers Kit for the Barometer gets handed out in December. We should then start to see some Apps that utilize the Barometer to full use.

Would really be interesting in hearing a comparison to the Dell Streak. I bought the Dell Streak 5 from someone selling their Give-Away phone and eventually bought the UNLOCKED to T-Mobile (with 3G) and was never happy with the Streak. I didn't mind the size at all. In fact I bought the Mugen Extended battery and that somehow felt better in my hand than without the battery. (Girl Hand) what I didn't like was the DELL .. Maybe what I didn't like about the Dell will be what I don't like about the Note .. PHONE CALLS. Not it being to big, but getting to the dialer to hang up always gave me fits .. It isn't easy to use like the iPhone. I like the iPhone for calls and the other for everything else. Always struggled with phone calls on the Dell Streak. I will carry both with me .. my iPhone and my Note. If I am just running out to the store I will bring my iPhone .. I use Google Voice I think it is called, it rings all my phones when I have a call. I wish it worked for texting also. (ramble-ramble)

I have my alarm on my note set to I'm sexy and I know by LMFAO and its so fitting.

Have you tried calling with a headset? That seems to be where the reports of sound quality are coming from. Would love some confirmation of this...

IMHO that is what he is implying . new line of devices, maybe highest/exclusive/vip shelf - very expensive, superb design. strong metal casing like in wave not that plastic crap from galaxy s series, latest tech specs latest gorilla and so on. and ofc as leaks shows galaxy series will still be developed but as a mid class of mobiles with crappier plastic casing and not so high tech spec and design.

Reminds me of some of.those top business model nokia and sony Ericsson used to make and never actually make a dent on the market cuz of the overpriced tag and not so practical functionality.

FYI the Note is out, it came out after the S2, therefore it is a successor (in time). The headline is attributed to the author, not the interviewee.
Stanford did not say the Note was the S3, nor did he say an S3 was not coming, and he certainly did not say an S3 would be (more of) a premium line as you intimate..
Perhaps i should point out that the chap in question has a job to sell phones in the UK.. that job consists of
a) milking the S2, and
b) pushing the Note and
c) ignoring ANY phone that is not available for sale..
So why not lets read the article for what it is.. a sales pitch for the Note and nothing more.

It would be interesting.. And I bet now that LG has it(I have always thought LG was a daughter company of Samsung anymore), iit wouldn't surprise me a bit if we'r saw one come out soon...

maybe for a future samsung device, but 0% chance for the note 10. Needs to be built first party and the OS needs to customized for this. Samsung is busy on other things.

that is interesting, but no one is going to make it unless samsung finances dev. Also battery drain for extra screen, wifi/bt/usb for display would be a killer. Kinda a poor mans "fold". Like already stated you need core OS support as this is not mirroring, it's dial screen.

But with the bezeless design, a simple book case from Samsung is the kind of thing they would release.

samsung have this dual screen, it costs 2000$ and called Galaxy Fold.

Because it's a good solution for all existing Samsung users, and something very 'Samsung' to sell.

I actually read an article yesterday that Samsung already has a patent for this type of device. And along with Microsoft, LG and who knows whom else, this type of display, could be an accessory add on. I mean the note for one would be a huge device with the two screens. And Samsung obviously(with all of their experiments over the years) has no problem making devices and accessories just to set how they stick and sell. Over the 8 to 9 years I've used Samsung devices(notes) they have done some clever add on experiments. They have the money to do it. After all, the note itself was originally an experiment.
But honestly, with the way they seem to think, they'd probably make it for the S series versus the note.. Ugh..
But it's all speculation..
